  1. Here is my re-sized pic of Hanna and here is my brand new Dooney and Bourke:dance: Thanks Donali for the instructions, I hope you don't mind me copy/pasting your words! :cheer2:"We did it, we did it, we did it, hooray! Lo Hicimos! We did it!" If you're using windows XP, here is what I do (this probably will work with any Windows program): Open up the .jpg file by double-clicking on it. My .jpg opens with the default program "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer". In the bottom righthand corner, there is a picture with a little pen - if you mouse over that, it should say "Closes this program and opens the image for editing (Ctrl+E)" Click on that little picture, or hold down the control button and then type the letter E. The image should now display in a window that has "Paint" as a part of the title. On the file menu, under "Image" click on "Attributes". Now you should see how high and how wide your picture is. You can choose your prefered measurement - I would use inches. If you change the size here, you risk deforming your picture, because this program does not automatically reduce the width to match the reduction in height. But now that you know how big the picture is, you know about how much you want to reduce it. For example, lets say the width is 10 inches, but you want to make it only 5 inches, and you want to keep the height proportionate with that change. Cancel out of the attributes window. On the file menu, under "Image" click on "Stretch/Skew" Under "Stretch" you see two boxes with 100% in them. Since you want your picture half the size it is now, put 50% in each box (height and width) and click "Okay". I would now save the picture under a different name, so that you don't permanently change the size of your original. I usually add the letters "sm" for "small" to the original title, so I know it's the same pic, only smaller.

    Just beginning....questions

WELCOME to LBT. I'm not banded yet, but I did my sleep study already. I spent 2 nights at the clinic. Both nights they hooked up to a machine to see if I was breathing normally or if I would stop breathing in my sleep. 1st night was without a cpap machine, and they said I stopped breathing 10 times an hour. 2nd night was with the machine. I didn't stop breathing one time. I can honestly say I have not felt more rested in years after the night with the machine. I now have my machine at home and use it every night. It took alittle time to get used to having a mask on my face, but it really isn't that bad. Good luck!!

    May 16th Anyone?

I'm down 10 pounds since surgery. Started full liquids today. Drank a couple of protein shakes and ate some sugar free cheesecake flavored pudding. I can drink multiple big sips. Incisions just itching. Started to rubbing neosporin on them to help cut down on thickness of the scars hopefully.

exercise is only about 10% of weight loss. 90% is due to food intake (or the lack thereof). So being active does help a bit, but most of loss or gain is due to food intake. I know of several people who've lost a ton of weight with WLS without exercise, so you should be fine. not losing the first week is common, and Sigh is correct, it's due to the IV fluids you got in the hospital, which is essentially salt water. The sodium in it causes water retention in a lot of people, and it takes a few days to work it's way out of your system. Lots of us leave the hospital weighing more than we did when we entered. I've read about people "gaining" up to 10 lbs in the hospital! So no worries. You'll start losing weight soon..
  7. Toy27 - thank you, I didn't realize how that statement could be mis-interpreted. NO, I did NOT have any complications whatsoever, in fact, I breezed through recovery and felt pretty much normal about 10 days post-op. What I meant by saying that it's harder to stay the course the further out you are is in reference to how easy it would be to overeat and not suffer any consquences. I can eat sugar, Cookies, pie, cake, ice cream, candy, etc. and the ONLY thing that is stopping me from doing that is ME. I chose to have the sleeve so that I wouldn't get the death penalty (ie. RNYs can suffer from dumping syndrome, etc. when eating foods with sugar) because I wanted to be in control of what I eat. But sometimes it can be exhuasting to be so on-top of what I eat. So that is where the further out you are the harder it is to be on-top of your eating habits. I should say though that in some ways it's easier because eating smaller amounts of food seems completely normal to me now (at first it didn't) but now it's just 100% normal for me to portion out a small amount of food and that is what I plan to eat. So thanks again for asking for clarification on that!
  8. Yeah, I’m in Victoria. Pre op I was just on 100 at my heaviest. I then decided to take out top cover health insurance and start the ball rolling. In the 12 month wait period I tried duromine, dropped 12 kilos in 3 months but the lack of sleep just made me feel crazy. Was doing good and dropped another 2 kilos off duromine. Then the weight crept back. Over about 10 weeks I went from 86 to 96 kilos. So by the time I saw my surgeon I was so glad he had me booked into hospital 3 weeks from our first visit. So far eating most things has gone really good. Only if I eat one bite too much I vomit a bit. Drinking enough is the bit I struggle the most with. Atm I can eat almost 1/2 to 3/4 of a small yoghurt now. So around 80ml. How much my taste in food changed was the biggest shock. The kids got kfc the other week, I stole one popcorn chicken, one chip, and a little pinch of skin and it all tasted disgusting, and I threw it up within few minutes. Tried a bit of ham cheese and tomato pita bread and was horrible. Things I would normally love taste vile, I really hope it stays that way forever haha. Try to have a variety of shakes and sugar, free jelly, different stuff to make smoothies when you come home from hospital. All the things I drank a lot of the first couple of weeks I can’t stomach now. They ones I switched up often I have no problem with now.
  9. Absolutely! My situation is s little different than most. I had a Lap Band for 10 years. I lost 100+ lbs and kept it off for years. I had my band emergency removed. I thought I could maintain the weight myself but I ended up putting back on 100 lbs in a year. I was sleeved in October. Even though I’ve lost 36 lbs so far, I am unable to be happy about it. I couldn’t see how bad it was when I was gaining but now that I’m loseing it, it’s very sobering. I suspect I won’t be able to be proud of my accomplishment until I’ve hit 100+ lbs lost.
  10. GO ON, GURLLLLLLLL!!!:thumbup: Im pretty impressed! I wish that I had as much enthusiasm as you about working out! I keep making excuses! UGHHHH!!! I usually do 30 mins on treadmill at 3.5 or higher then hip and thigh adductur (sp?) and at least 100 crunches on the machine and then arm curls and chest pulls. ur impressed with me?????? i'm impressed with u!!!!!!!!! all the weight training ur doing is whats going to make ur body look nice and toned when everything is said...done and lost...i haven't even started to weight train yet...all i've done is cardio...my stitches from my tuck come out on 10/19 and my dad paid for a personal trainer...so hopefully i'll get to be like u!!!!!!!! maybe ur not losing bcuz ur building muscle...my sister has an awesome body and people are always surprised at how much she weights...but she is all muscle and in a size 4...(no surgery)...if ur losing inches ..ur probably gaining muscle which well eventually start burning fat...

    Looking for meal ideas

It's DELISH! LOL the whole thing from start to finish, prep to plated, 30 min.. it takes longer to prep then to cook.. because you are using cutlets and then pounding them a little thinner, they cook pretty fast... maybe 10 min... but I also put the lid on the pan too... I like to use Provolone because the smoked flavor is great... the friend who gave me the recipe likes to use Parm.. just depends on what you like.. let me know how it turns out!!
  12. What you may not be able to see in the picture are Inspire Protein powders (blueberry cheesecake is my fave) with 20 G protein & nectar with 10 (I just add that to my Water with Crystal Light). But my Dr says at least 80g protein. I've used Premiere since I started this process last Sept. Used to blend spinach & frozen blueberries in it. Yum. I'm at my pre op right now. So nervous but down another 8 lbs! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  13. Hi Sandee I have the same insurance as you do. The bcbs horizon of NJ. It covers the sleeve surgery. I have to meet my deductible first ($750) then it covers 90% of surgery. I believe I have to pay the 10%. What I am wondering is when do I have to pay the 10%? Does the hospital bill you for it ? Do you have to pay it up front before surgery? I am in Rhode Island
  14. I was banded May 7th at Wise Regional Hospital. It has been a full week and I've lost 19 pounds. That might be too fast, but for me it just melted off! I know everyone will be different. Don't worry about how fast the pounds come off, they will in time.

    "new Year's Resolution"

Neater house, spend less money. We want a new house and we want to make a huge step up in terms of where we live and what we live in so we need to save save save. We're stuck on one income for the next four years while I finish my degree, sigh, I havent worked in 10 years as it is. The diet and exercise are going to take care of themselves, I truly feel I am not the same person any more.

Day one of two week pre op diet...

Good luck!!! How much did you lose in the 2 weeks. Our plans sound similar. You will do great today!! I am so excited for you.I've lost another 10 so far putting me at 47 lbs lost since starting this journey in April. I've read about lots of people having to do 2 weeks of clear liquids so I won't complain about getting the easier diet hahaCongrats on the 47 lbs. WOW!! I am down 15 since I started in April. You will be a sleeve rock star!
  19. I am not afraid, and I've never been more sure in my life that this is the right thing for me to do, but there are times when I am just over whelmed with the whole process. I have seen the pictures, talked to those who are successes, read about those who are not. But the reality that this one thing is going to change my is so huge. I am tired of being fat and getting winded walking up stairs. I am tired of seeing my blood surgar rise even if I eat nothing. I am tired of swelling of my legs and ankles and not ever feeling full. I am so ready for this step. I know once I loose even 10 pounds walking is going to be much easier and believe it or not, I look forward to "restriction". My future was in the hands of the insurance companies then the surgeon and now the Shrink. I am at their mercy, be it approving me for the Band or changing my date. I feel like I have lost control, every time I try to get control back, something else happens. I am so glad there are those who will go first and I am looking forward to hearing ALL THE DETAILS. I guess it is all that great unknown. Scary, but unbelieveably exciting. HEY - sounds almost like a roller coaster ride! Thanks for being there, even when I don't really make sense
  20. Sorry, I'm in the same boat, I got banded on 8/19 and had my first fill 9/24 and since my fill I have only lost 5 lbs. But I'm down from a size 20 pants to a size 16 jeans. I record and watch what I eat and I do zumba 4 days a week, so hopefully the scale will show some results soon.

    Day 12

Well, this past Saturday was my birthday. I was just looking at what I had to eat that day. What a BIG difference! I was discussing with my husband what we would normally do on birthdays and I saved myself probably 3000 calories (what would that be? more than a pound). We usually go to a very fancy restaurant and have a five course meal with bread, appetizers, salad, main course and dessert, not to mention the wine. Not only did I save myself from that but probably saved $130 by not going out. I also usually get cakes from the "dessert gallery" on birthdays in our house. Those cakes run $50 a piece, however they are truly amazing cakes. So a grand totol of $180 savings right off the bat from not obsessing over meals on my birthday. What a nice adjustment. 10 years of that and I have saved myself 1800 bucks just on ONE day a year. Not that this ordeal is in any way related to money, its just an interesting side perk. =) I peeled my steri strips off last night. The nurse said they should come off between 6 and 10 days and they didn't. So, I decided to take them off. Every incision looks great. The largest one of course is my port site. It is not quite as healed as the others. One of my spots doesnt even have a scar it has a small pink spot. Hard to even tell there was an incision at all. I couldn't find my "madera" (I think thats what it is called) for minimizing scar tissue. So I will stop by the store soon to get some of that. I wore a bra to work again today. I may be able to make it through the day with it on. I just have to be sure and sit up straight. If I hunch over at all, it hurts too much. The port site is tender. I wonder how long that continues?........ I was also sick all weekend, so I spent most of it in bed. Sore throat, achy muscles, runny nose, coughing, congested ..... the whole works. I took cold medicine and it didnt help, so today I have taken an allergy medicine. I hope that helps.... Morning Scale: 210 Food today: Breakfast - 4 oz of 50% fat free pimento cheese with a small spoon of fat free mayo. Lunch - Dinner - snack - Excersize:

I don't care what the scale says as long as I can wear a size 10 jeans without a muffin top :biggrin3:

    Pain

I had Lapband with plication on 8/10. Everything has been perfect with the exception of pain in lower tummy radiating into my lower back. I have a wonderful doctor who listened to me and ordered test then admitted me to find out the problem. Did a ct scan. Everything with my Lapband and stomach was perfect. They did find a pocket of Fluid on both sides of my spine causing the pain. Just something that happened during surgery we guess. He says he feels like my body will reabsorb it. Going home with pain meds in the morning. So we will see.
  25. Hey guys! I'm making my list and checking it twice for my post-op Vitamins. I've been using a complete Multivitamin for years, but it's a huge pill, so I need to switch to something chewable. I've looked at gummy vitamins at the store, but they are expensive for what you get. Considering my normal vitamins are $8 for a 3 month supply, paying $10 for a one month supply is outrageous to me, and what I've looked they have less vitamins per serving that my current generic vitamins. But looking around, I'm just getting confused about what I need to be taking, and where to get the most for my money... So, please, tell me what you're taking, where you get it and how much it costs. I'm a 32 year old female, what do I need to take? Here's what I was planning for: A multivitamin Biotin B-12 sublingual Calcium with Vitamin D I'd also like suggestions for the calcium/vit D, because I'm not taking that currently, so I don't know what to look for or how much to take. Do I have to take chewables forever? Or can I go back to my pills when I'm fully healed from surgery? Thanks all for the input!
