6 Weeks Out, Feeling Good, But Weight Loss Is Really Slowing Down
CowgirlJane posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I know that it is normal for weight loss to slow down, but I started out at a pretty high BMI so I want to be sure I maximize these first months to get the maximum loss. At the last meeting with the NUT, I was not feeling good. She encouraged me to up my carbs to more like 80 a day, instead of staying in the 25-40 range. She was right, i felt better almost instantly, but I also think my weight loss has slowed to 1-2 pounds a week. I am keeping my eaten calories in the 700-800 range and I get another 65 or so calories in Vitamin supplements (chewables and liquids have calories and carbs) but the total is always under 1000. I am probably getting 70-80 carbs a day now, including the Vitamins. I am trying to focus on getting my carbs from vegetables and fruits, very limited amount of bread or Pasta type products. I am concerned that if I go back to the under 40 carbs again that i will feel so weak and tired again but I am not sure what else to do to get that weight loss going faster. I walk 30 minutes a day, including a hillclimb, doing small increases in activity in everyday life such as parking along ways away from the store and trying to do more things using my body rather then sitting - and am back to doing horse stuff. I could probably increase activity to see if that would help. I am thinking of buying an elliptical as those are gentle on my knees. I started out at a 51 BMI so even though I had good losses the first month, I won't get to my goal if I don't pick up the pace here in month 2. -
Hello, has anyone had their surgery with Kaiser in the Inland Empire? If so, can you tell me what steps you took to get approved by Kaiser? Who your pcp was? I'm switching to Kaiser January 1st and want to make sure I find a new primary care physician who is pro weight loss surgery, and want to make sure I do all I can to get approved. Thank you!!

INPUT FROM EVERYONE NEEDED
vlp1968 replied to BarbieBamm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My 2 cents is to start excersising if you haven't already. Start out slow and gradually increase your intensity/duration. It has so many benefits, just one being weight loss. You can do this! -
I just followed up with my doctor for my one week followup and to remove my staples. During surgery they did a hiatal hernia repair and a liver biospy as he did not like how the liver look. Now I already knew that I had fatty liver disease so that was not a suprise for him to due. But today he told me that he always looks inside the stomach that he removes and he found multiple polyps. He did have a biospy done and they were all benigned. Has any one else found out that they had stomach polyps after the surgery? I did just a little research after coming home and polyps are common but some lead to gastric cancer which is hard to detect as it most people think it is just a stomach ache. Holy crap, at least mine were benign but what a scary thought. As for the liver biospy, it was found to be hepitatis inflamed which is common in obese people even though we have never had any form of hepitatis. He did state that this is now a leading issue for overweight people leading to a liver transplant. The good news is because I did get sleeved, all stomach polyps have been removed, hernia has been repaired and the liver will improve as I lose weight. I have stopped my diabetic medication as my blood sugar levels have been in the normal range ever since the pre surgery liquid diet. This has been the smartest medical decision I have ever made and I wish I would had this done several years ago. But I am now sleeved and moving to a healthier me.

I was told by my psych doc that most ins. will cover part of the consult but not all, meaning they will cover the consult itself but not the report that the psych has to type up to be submitted by your bariatric surgeon to ins. He said the key to getting them to cover the small part of the consult is when you call for precert you HAVE TO SAY that you need a consult for "weight related issues" ie. depression, not a consult in preparation for bariatric surgery. He told me that this would get the precert but I would have to pay out of pocket for the report, which was $150 plus my copay for the small part that they would bill ins for. so I basically would just be paying for the whole thing anyways. Hope this helps, you know it is all in how you word it with ins.

I had my bariatric lap banding done in 2011. I did really well with it but have had other complicationsthat have kind of stalled my weight loss. I had a Bilateral Double Mastectomy in September of 2012. My original reconctruction did not work. I have the option now to have a DIEP Flap, which is using the fat and tissue from my stomach to reconstruct the breasts. Basically a tummy tuck. I am wondering if there is anyone on this forum that has had this surgery? I would really like to chat with you. Thanks

Exercise ideas to prevent flabby arms? Legs?
Cangel76 replied to brew44's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have talked to a lot of people that didn't even need surgery for the flab because of their age. The younger you are and the slower you loose weight the better chance you give your skin a chance to bounce back. The older you are the less chance you are going to have to have that skin bounce back. You also have to do leg and arm exercises. -
Exercise ideas to prevent flabby arms? Legs?
brew44 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I have been walking for exercise. I have my surgery Monday and I know I will be able to lose the weight. I am worried about my arms and legs just becoming saggy with so much excess skin. Does anyone have any ideas/tips for exercises that may prevent that from happening? Thanks! -

Losing weight with no exercise

A wise soul once told me "you lose weight to look good in clothes. You work out to look good naked." I agree! [emoji16][emoji12][emoji108] -
Congrats on the weight loss. Hope you're still doing some exercise at home and boosting your protein intake, to ensure you're not losing muscle..

Losing weight with no exercise
OutsideMatchInside replied to lola70's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I lost weight with just walking. I didn't go to the gym. Did the odd yoga class. I have regular DEXA scans and I lost very little muscle, like 3 pounds, which the Dr told me was normal just because you don't need as much muscle to carry less weight around. I kept my protein over 100 grams a day though, if you are living off 60 grams of protein and not working out, you are going to lose muscle. If you just want to drop weight fast, you drop weight faster not exercising. There are a lot of studies on the lack of effectiveness of exercise for weight loss. Google and do your own research. -
Losing weight preop!?! Help!
LindafromFlorida replied to LaGueriTaChuLa13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Please do not take any diet pills!!!!! There are more answers for you here. Be patient. Some insurances require this weight loss, and some doctors I presume. I would be wringing my hands too, but you want this surgery. Get the Protein shakes incorporated into your lifestyle, get off the carbs and sugars as this will be a way of life for you after surgery. Okay experts. LaGueri needs our help. -

Losing Weight Before Surgery - It's Messing with My Head. Does anyone else feel like this?
gertiemay replied to jobillandjosh's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know I can lose the weight or at least a good chunk of it. I've done it more times than I can count and I'm only 40. That's not my problem. My problem is keeping it off for longer than 6-9 months. I completely understand your feelings though because I'm having those conversations in my head and I'm 5-1/2 weeks away from my surgery. I try to tell myself that I've had to see a weight management doctor and dietician for the past 6 months (prior to surgery due to my insurance requirements). I've lost 35 pounds through my diet, quitting pop (soda) and walking 4-7 miles/6 days per week, but I can't say without that accountability and the support I've experienced from my support group that I would have been successful on my own. And long term with a diagnosis of borderline diabetes I know I need more help than I can give myself. This surgery will allow me to live the life that I want for myself, the life that my kids deserve from their mom and the life I want as a wife for my husband. I have found peace knowing and asking for help. I hope you find the answers you are looking for. -
BMI less than 30 at start of surgery
Joannaharris77 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm really looking to chat with some people that really didn't have much weight to loose. I started out at 197 now I'm 178. I has the surgery because of health problems. High blood pressure, borderline diabetic, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, gerd, fatty liver, hernia, and a bad heart. My cardiologist suggested that I have the surgery. Im really trying to get off all the medications and look good at the same time. I had complications after the surgery which was done on the 8th of September. I just want to know if I'm the only one out here that really had no choice to have the surgery and also don't have that much weight yo lose. -
Gallbladder Removal after LB
Bella Bear replied to sld21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am only 4 months out of my LB and I have been having gall bladder symptoms for about a month. I have a semi-severe pain in my right side especially after I eat a "large" meal (which is hardly large). Deep breaths hurt and last night for several hours, I had pain in the middle of my back. I have an ultrasound scheduled for this Friday. I'm annoyed and feeling negative because I've been doing good with my weight loss - not too fast, concentrating on eating a healthy diet, exercising 7 hours a week, etc. And now this. Sigh. -
6 Weeks Out, Feeling Good, But Weight Loss Is Really Slowing Down
MoonSiren replied to CowgirlJane's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm now 7 weeks out and have noticed my weight loss is slowing down too. I think it is because I started eating solid foods instead of mushies and liquids. On the liquid phase I lost tons of weight fast so might go back to liquids for a few weeks if I don't start losing more soon. -
I had the same requirement by my surgeon. I just put my head down and pushed through it. The good news is that those pre-op pounds are gone and it's less that I have to lose now. If I can do it, you can do it. And you'll likely have surgery before you have time to regain any of that weight.

For me I get very fatigued. Think back to day three postop. Been feeling run down like that for a while now. Also I can't grip things with my left hand. I don't have the muscle coordination to hold things. My left leg is weak, unbalanced, wobbly, and numb. Feels like I have a few 10lb weights strapped too tightly to my leg. Then there is cognitive. I fumble for words, mispronounce words, constantly lose my train of thought, and for extra fun add a handful of anxiety. 10 years after dx and I think I'm doing pretty good. Just noticing I'm not bouncing back from episodes to 100%.
