Try not to compare yourself to any one elses loss. I get on here and see people losing 40 lbs. in 2 months and yes it gets depressing when im barely losing. I have beeb sleeved for 6 weeks now. On sleeved date was 226, about 8 or 9 days later was down about 13 lbs. and there I stayed for almost 3 weeks. Lost about 2-3 lbs, and then stayed the same for the next 2 weeks, now just in the last few days have lost another 2 lbs. So it shows I'm down about 20 lbs in 6 weeks. I am following my surgeons plan though, I know I could get in more water but that has always been a struggle for me. It could also depend on your surgeon's plan. From day 2 we are allowed cottage cheese, pudding, yogurts, anything soft. Many people are on 2 weeks or more of liquid diet. Just keep following the plan they gave you and success will be yours! Hi there.. I got sleeved on 7/9 and went home on that wednesday, doing pretty well. I'm not getting a lot of sleep, but how much walking should i be doing noq. I've been up and around my house, even to the grocery store (i didn't drive lol), walking to the mail box.. I want to be as successful as possible in this surgery.. just don't want to be resting on my laurels, per se. Also, just for the record, this phase 1 diet is super boring. Has anyone tried eating egg drop soup during this time?

Lap Band conversion to Gastric Sleeve
The.new.g replied to vonnegutk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, there is a whole Band-to-Sleeve revision board on here. Congrats to you! It's a good feeling isn't it? I had my revision almost 1 month ago. I still struggle with the fluids like you. I didn't have much pain and felt ready to go to work after about a week. What kind of work do you do? It might actually be fine to go back. One caution though, my NP scolded me for going back soon not because I was harming anything but because I work in an environment where it is difficult to get fluids (I work in the OR) so she wanted me to have more time getting my hydration back up before going back. But beyond that, if you don't have a lot of lifting to do and you can drink throughout the day, you are probably ok to go back to work if you want. I still find it weird not having a port anymore. I had my band for almost 6 years. Good luck and welcome! -
Need to drop 30lbs for surgeon
Cali_Angel replied to mrsob1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i'm am currently in the process of trying to lose 30lbs myself. well i have lost 20 technically i have 10 to go but when i report to my surgeon all he ever says is "good job" not saying or hinting or even giving me any hope that i might be getting a date. i am getting pretty frustrated with him. when i went to his office he said 30lbs at first but then under his breath but very audible said " i would rather 40". I don't mind losing the weight because i want to lose as much as i can before the surgery, its hard and very emotional but i feel like losing 20lbs since the middle of July til now is really enough to show how dedicated i am and that it wouldn't hurt him to make me a date even two or three months from now just so it's there. You can do it. just really try your best and stick to whatever diet you have to in order to get to where you need to be and i hope you surgeon is not as dismissive as mine. -
Almost 3 years post-op... possible complications?
thtrmgr posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So far bafflement... still undergoing tests but nothing conclusive so far... has anyone else experienced post-op complications several years out? Surgery July 2016. Only lost 100lbs (I know, I know, "only"), but I'm still about 100lbs overweight. I'm not unhappy w/the amount lost at all and feel much better overall so I do not regret the surgery. First, not sure any or all of these symptoms are related at all but since they're all (potentially) GI-related, I can't help but think (especially now) that they are. So here goes: I can't remember exactly when the first one occurred, but it was after "healing" for sure but the first time it happened, it was definitely after surgery: a charlie-horse in my abdomen. These occur very suddenly and occur when I'm bending, reaching or twisting my abdomen--but always forward, not backward. For example, I might just tuck my belly in to look down at my feet and whammo, charlie horse. I reach forward to pick up a kitten... whammo. They can happen at any time and are excruciatingly painful and I just jerk backwards in reaction and take diaphragmatic breaths and they'll ease up. About 4 months ago, I had a sudden pain "attack" after eating a relatively fatty meal... I'm talking waves of pain in the gut so intense that I actually called 911. Since I still have my gallbladder, I assumed gallbladder problems. Pain lasted about 7 hours or so, even through narcotics given in the ambulance and at the hospital. Worst pain I've ever felt in my life. Multiple tests run... no gallstones, so they basically sent me home after the pain finally subsided with a ridiculous "gastritis" diagnosis. Sorry, was crapola. About 6 weeks after that, I started to have diarrhea... for over two weeks straight, every single day. Didn't respond to OTC anti-diarrheals. Saw walk-in doc (my doc was on vacation) who ran a bunch of tests and nothing positive except blood in the stool. Diarrhea eventually cleared. PCP ordered endoscopy and colonoscopy--both normal. About 6 weeks ago, another pain attack--but not after fatty meal... just yogurt. This time I remembered I had meds at home--took anti-spasmodics (hyoscyamine) and oxycodone... took 3x regular dose to make pain tolerable. Faded again after about 7 hours. PCP suspects gallbladder function is to blame, even though no stones, so HIDA test this Thursday. In the timeline, this pain attack was about a week after the diarrhea cleared up... about a month ago. But here's the deal: I can physically (i.e. with my hands) feel that under that trocar scar is a hardening of tissue... it makes sense that it's scar tissue of course, but I feel like it's getting bigger? (as in, over a wider area, not deeper). It's not painful when pressure is applied, just uncomfortable? I have not yet brought this part up to PCP, but she has palpated my abdomen before and didn't call out anything as unusual. So I'm at a loss as to what's going on but something definitely is. Anyone experience anything at all like this? Especially those who are years out from surgery? So confused and tired of taking tests that aren't leading anywhere... thank goodness I have excellent insurance. Michelle -
My surgeon recommended milk of magnesia over miralax. Which i took daily but i don't think it helped. I naturally have IBS issues anyway so I'm used to the whole cramping thing i just was afraid to over strain with it being the first BM after surgery. I have never been one to take BM's everyday i normallyonly go 2 maybe 3 times a week when eating food. so this 8 days wasn't unusual for me since I'm still on liquids. My friend and i was just discussing the squatty potty. Lol!

Soon to be banded
KristinInCO replied to BeautifulRapture's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm getting banded on the 27th which is kinda like the 29th in S. Korea I was looking for someone who was around the same time I was. I am getting really nervous, too. I have waited 3 years and can't believe it is a week away! Good luck! I look forward to sharing our progress! -
What's up guys just throwing it out there that I'm 2 weeks away from my date finally since working towards it since my August '16 seminar. I know everyone's doctors do it a little different but I'm just trying to get the consensus for what you all think my diet is since my paperwork got ruined a while back and I don't get my new one until tomorrow at my pre op appointment. Obviously I know it's no solid food but I should be drinking protein shakes, broth, sugar free popcicles and jello right? I'm doing good on my diet, I'm steadily losing weight here's an update. Feb 21st banded, recovery time done, thought I was getting it but actually I wasn't.......but this week things have really started to slot into place, I had a rather bad "stick" last weekend but was fortunate enough to have a visit booked on Monday and had a really good chat with my nurse and I had my second band fill, then attended a group session, which was the first for my area. It was great to meet other people and discuss how we we're find things. I started using a smart phone app called "eat slower" which has really helped with my eating. I also bought a hot plate to help keep my food from going cold as I keep the chew chew chew going. Both things have really helped. I have just finished a session with my new personal trainer and am actually feeling rather good about myself. In 10 weeks there is a huge difference in my physical appearance and more importantly my metal wellbeing. I feel as though I am really only now starting to embrace my band and understand how I go forward....coz one thing is for sure I don't intend to go backwards.

I'm only 6 weeks out and the only time I have thrown up is when I took the multi-vitamin with iron. Iron has always made me sick at my stomach. I quit the multi-vitamin and never happened again. I have found a new vitamin but haven't started it yet.... but I will. The trip to Duke for a second opinion sounds like an excellent idea. you really need to get that done for peace of mind and to ensure you have not damaged your stomach with all of that vomiting. I wish you much luck and quick healing.

The time will fly and before you know it you'll be sipping and walking and trying to remember several of the posts you've read having woken up a loser. My preOp was one week before surgery, but I wish I could have done it all at once. Make sure you are prepared for your stay and keep a positive attitude. Best to you on a speedy recovery and beautiful beginning to your new life.

I Am New To This Site
Greyhounds&I replied to To myself be true's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Did you and your husband have the procedure on the same day? Would you recommend that? We are both looking at the surgery and were wondering if it's okay to go the same day or if we should be about a week apart. Thanks! -
It's been 6 months since my original gastric bypass, which I then had reversed to a sleeve about three months ago. I still cannot eat without vomiting and pain. Sometimes, some days, I can do yogurt or a pretzel. I sometimes can handle cheese and Soups. But there are many days I can't. I haven't had more than 300 calories a day in six months. With the sleeve everything hurts and feels like it gets stuck and I have to make myself throw up to feel better. Anyone else experiencing an inability to advance their diet at three months?

I had a hysterectomy 5 years ago. I was out shopping with my 2 year old daughter a week later. I'm hoping this surgery is about the same :-)

I have my cardiology test next week. It is a cardiac stress test so I thought originally I was supposed to get on a treadmill. When they actually read the test it was a chemical stress test that was ordered. I am going in for the two day test now. An hour on day one. IV something to induce stress...then I ma not sure what is done on day two.

How long was your recovery period?
feedyoureye replied to Caliblonde's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc would only give me 6 weeks. He said he might take a week off after he sees how it goes. I think this is too much, but it will be great to have the time to get used to the sleeve and eating and such. Im sure the weight loss will show by then too... -

When to tell employer?
finding_onederland replied to Rosemary83's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I asked HR today about the process for leave, because there is a possibility of surgery. Once I get approved and have a date, that is when I will tell my boss that I will need to be out due to surgery. I don't intend to tell anyone at work that I am having WLS - but I am guessing they will put two and two together since I will be losing weight after a surgery and a two week LOA. -
When to tell employer?
WorkinOnMe replied to Rosemary83's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too waited until the insurance approval was completed. Then I simply told them I was having surgery and would be out of work for 2 weeks. I don't have an application process to go through for FMLA, so it was pretty easy. I took 2 weeks (including hospital stay & recovery), but could have gone back to work after the first week. Everyone is different though, so I would plan for more and then adjust for less if you can. -

I went back to work after a week for half days. I was back full time after 2 wks. I was a little tired that second week back, but that was it. I am 6 wks out and have felt completely fine to do whatever since about wk 3. -
How long was your recovery period?
klus263 replied to Caliblonde's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It will depend on the the type of job you have. I had surgery on a Wednesday and was back to work the following Wednesday. I work from home as a customer service rep 4 days a week/10 hours days. I was definately tired but I went to bed early alot and I got up from my desk every hour the first week and walked during my lunch time. I had a high tolerance of pain so I felt ready to go back to work. -
How do i get clearance from my pcp?
sbg224 replied to queencity's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For blue shield I had to go once a month for 6 months to the surgery doc office and meet with someone to satisfy the requirements for the insurance company to approve the surgery, and show no weight gain. After the 6 months and I had all the testing done they required, stress echo, endoscopy, it was only about 2-4 weeks before all was approved and scheduled a date. i am sure some are quicker and some may be longer. Good luck -
10 CC pouch WHAT? Does my doc want me to shrivel away?
abingdongirl replied to AlienBandit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Since you are only 2 weeks post op, I am sure you are still on liquids or mashed like foods, although your space above your pouch is 10cc or so, that doesn't mean the food you are eating today is staying above that the entire time you are eating. Once you start getting your fills in your band, you will start to feel fuller sooner because the space above your band is so small, but most of us don't feel that till you start getting fills, this is a time of healing and liquids cross the barrier between your upper and lower stomach much faster at this point. I am sure you are fine, but talk to your doctors office if you still have questions. I can tell you for me I was able to pretty much eat anything up till my first fill restricted me from eating and drinking at the same time and after my second fill all breads were out of the picture. I can still eat more but I do feel the food move through the restricted space however not unbearable. I hope this helps.
