    Anyone else terrified?

    It's totally normal to feel that way for a first surgery. I know when I had my first surgery at 24 I was scared of the same thing. The second time I had surgery though I was 29 and I wasn't scared at all (but that was because I was desperate at that point. I had brain surgery due to my Trigeminal Neuralgia and surgery was my last hope to get rid of the unending chronic debilitating pain I'd been in for 10 months non-stop). My WLS was my third and most recent surgery and I was 32 and after going through what I already had with my TN and the brain surgery... I wasn't scared because I pretty much knew what to expect and I figured it wouldn't be anywhere near as bad as waking up from brain surgery (my head HURT so bad after the brain surgery and I was in and out of it, mostly out of it, for the first three or four days and sooooo nauseous) so I figured it wasn't anything to worry about, so while I wasn't scared of the surgery itself, I was nervous about if I'd be able to be up and moving around as soon as they wanted me to (I was sore yes, but they were happy that I was up and walking like I was supposed to when I was supposed to and even did more laps then they had asked). So don't feel bad about being scared. It's 100% normal to feel that way! Just try to think about your reasons for doing the surgery in the first place and it may help with your nerves a little bit.

    I've stalled three times in the two months since my surgery. It happens and is just part of the journey. The weight is coming off - stay off the scale for a week and as others have suggested, up your calories and switch up your exercise. It will break.

    Long period

    Keep a close eye on it.....I thought I started my cycle in late Dec, 2020 (about a week before my revision, sleeve to bypass) and since I have PCOS and the flow was light, I didn't think anything of it until August when it still didn't stop. I had a endometrial biopsy----came back as cancer. I had a total hysterectomy in early October. Cancer had spread beyond the uterus to an ovary and peritoneum- Stage 3B, just had round 2 of 6 Chemo cycles and after that I have 5 weeks of radiation.......so if your cycle is not normal for you.....check it out!

    10 days post up---Dizzy?

    This happened to me 1-1.5 weeks before surgery. I was on 2 BP meds. But maybe due to the weight I lost during the pre-op, or maybe due to the liquid diet (low sodium maybe).. my BP started to go super low (~90.60), I stopped both BP meds, and my BP went up to normal... Have you checked your BP?

    Could be dehydration, could be blood pressure, could be both (and dehydration can cause low BP). I was taken off one of my BP meds the day after surgery and the other one I went off about 4 weeks later—and my BP without any meds is never above 125/80 now. So it could be that.
  7. I wouldn't worry about it. I eat more than that at a sitting 2.5 months out and I've lost 15 pounds in 3 weeks.

    Honestly, you're going to eat so little after surgery that "meal prepping" is something you'll have some time to learn. What I do is plan out what I want to eat. For example, Korean BBQ ground beef, rice, and, say, green beans. I'll cook a pound of beef and get it all ready, then divide it into four containers (I'm eating about 4 oz. protein at a time right now). I'll make a quarter cup of dry rice in the appropriate amount of salted water in a small saucepan (rice expands to 4x its volume), and put a quarter cup of cooked rice in each container. And then I'll prepare and cook half a pound of green beans and put a quarter of it in each container. The containers go in the fridge and when it's time to eat, I take one out, pop it in the microwave for a minute and a half or two minutes, and eat it. I build the "recipe" in MyMacros+ by adding all my ingredients (INCLUDING COOKING OIL!) and then telling it it's four portions. Then when I need to log it, I just tap Recipes and the one I created is right there for me. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. I meal prep twice a week so that I'm not eating week-old leftovers. I also am a big fan of the packets of tuna that have 70 calories—they're really high in protein, I can have a little jar of chopped veggies (onion, celery, pickle, apple) to put in and then a dab of light mayo, and that's a meal too. I even make omelets or scrambled egg ahead of time.

    My surgeon banged on the teakettle about no coffee, but I started drinking it again about 6 weeks out. It's for everyone's safety... I prefer not to lead the 11:00 news...

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

    The pain on the left side might be due to the surgeon closing you up on that side, for me I had more pain on my right side because my surgeon tends to do all his work on the right side. I'd say if it's too much and pain meds aren't working or if you're out of pain meds to try to contact your surgeon so you can ask what side you were closed on and/or inquire about the pain you feel or you can do so at your post op appointment if they gave you one (typically they give you one for a week after the surgery). You could also inquire about pain medication - try to find out if they can prescribe a little more, or ask what you are able to use in it's place.. One of my bariatric doctors said I can take extra strength Tylenol (which I didn't try, I just dealt with the pain), but every surgeon is different in terms of recommendations.

    July 2021 Surgery People!

    Since finishing the soft food phase, I have not wanted any tuna or avocados, but I think I'll like them again. I have also not wanted eggs for the past 2 weeks. Like eholmes89 & Tony B - NJ, I seem to prefer fish & shrimp at this point. Most bread is difficult to eat, I have tried low carb, high protein breads that are ok, but not the same as the bread I used to eat. Multi- grain crackers seem to go down easier. Before the surgery I loved my coffee, but it just does not taste the same to me or feel good going down. It also uses to be more enjoyable when it was paired with my breakfast or desserts. I do miss drinking with my meals, but I'm getting used to it. I have started to have hot chocolate in the evening & I add some protein power to it. Hoping you all are doing well.

    As long as you are only eating 700-800 calories a day as you posted, you definitely didn't waste your money. You will lose weight due to calorie deficit. Before surgery, I remember having a difficult time keeping under 1800 calories. I was a bad case of no control when it came to food before surgery. As others said, stalls are normal and your body is just adjusting. Changing up your diet is always good to try to, like upping protein as you said. It may be excess water weight.
  13. 6oz by volume, so 3/4 a cup. I do weigh my food though, just so I can log it properly in MyFitnessPal. True, I remember when I was in the hospital, just before discharge, I asked my doctor how much I should be eating at each phase and he couldn't give me a direct answer. It'll probably be the same when I see him in a couple of weeks. Thank you all for the reassurance. Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm less worried than I was earlier. I don't snack between meals and I don't eat processed food (outside of the occasional protein drink, which I'm really trying to get away from), so perhaps I've just been taking in too much talk on WLS social media pages.

    Stalls happen. Our bodies need a chance to catch up with rapid changes. This is likely not going to be the only one you have.

    10 days post up---Dizzy?

    If you are on any blood pressure meds, you may need a lower dose. I was dizzy for a while after surgery, probably low blood pressure (mine has always been on the low side, but was normal at my heaviest, now it's low again). I ended up passing out last week and messing up my ankle when I fell, but I think that may have been a reaction to the booster shot. Definitely sit down if you're feeling dizzy!

    I had my sleeve surgery on 8/26. I was 235lbs, now 180. My goal is 145 to 150. I've been bouncing around 180 for the past week or so. I have found that I will drop a pound a day for a week, then stall for a week or two, then drop a pound a day again for a week or so. It's super frustrating during the stalls, but my nut said it's totally normal. What I have found is that if I focus on bumping up my protein, the stall seems to break, regardless of calories. The protein shakes I drink are high in calories, so even if I'm eating 900 to 1,000 calories, but hitting around 80-90 grams of protein, my weight starts to drop again.   17. Almost ALL restaurant food! It's such a shame because I am good at choosing healthy options, and enjoy sitting at a table and being waited on when I'm too tired to cook myself, but it all tastes SO processed! I took my 5 y/o to Applebee's yesterday and I ordered the 6 oz. sirloin. It was so nasty, it's like they smothered it in liquid smoke or something. We went to a Logan's a couple weeks ago, and I spent $30 for the filet - it was terrible! And for only being able to eat not even half of it, totally not worth it. I tried the mashed potatoes, I could taste that they were fake boxed. I've been to Olive Garden and ordered the shrimp scampi just to eat the shrimp out of it - again totally not worth the cost. I'm finally learning it's not worth it to go out to eat - suck it up and cook at home. (Don't judge me for the chain restaurant choices! I live in a small rural town and that's about all we have).     it's the infamous three-week stall (this early stall happens to probably 90% of us. It's usually the third week after surgery (hence the name), but not always. It can happen any time within the first 4-6 weeks after surgery). If you do a search on it on this site, you will find over 17,000 posts on it (and not, I am NOT kidding). Just stick to your program and stay off the scale for a few days. It usually takes 1-3 weeks to break, but it WILL break and you'll be on your way again.
  20. Thank you! I will be meeting with my surgeon in a couple of weeks and this is definitely on my list of questions. I know liquids (including protein drinks) and purées slide through me like water so I stick to eating "real" food (for lack of a better term) as much as possible. I'm still losing inches so I'm probably just overreacting. lol

    Can you describe your binging episode in detail? What food? How much? How long did you take? Did you drink during the episode? How much? We can binge if we work at it and know how to do it. Some of us just happen on it by accident. It won't look like pre-op but it's possible. There are ways to prevent thoughtlessly over eating, the same ones even non-ops use. Only put measured portions on your plate and put the rest away before you begin eating. Focus on eating when you are eating. The surgery can do a lot of the work but in some situations it's still up to us. ETA: Responding to your thread title, no, you have not ruined your tool. It takes a lot more than three or four binging episodes to affect your pouch. The thing to be careful of is, again, building a bad habit that eventually may. Good luck, Tek

    Weight Loss Stall

    Hi everyone! I had Gastric sleeve in Mexico on October 28th and weighed 283. Today I weight 268. My weight has been 268 for 2 and a half weeks, I managed to get down to 266 Saturday but then went back up!. I’m not eating over 7-800 calories, take in a good amount of water, my protein could be better but I definitely hit at least 40 grams which is what was put to at least hit (40-60 per nutritionist). I move around and walk for at least 15-20 min. What is going on? Is something wrong with me? Did I pay 4500 for nothing? I’m very depressed and thinking I’ll never lose weight. I eat a variety of food I don’t limit anything but it’s all home food not eating pizza and stuff. I eat grilled chicken tenders, sweet potatoes whole wheat toast boiled eggs veggies yogurt all healthy and no more than 4-5 bites per meal. I’m very very depressed that even a surgery can’t help me lose weight.
  23. I've read that that's normal. It was for me. Liquids and purées slid right through me the first few weeks. Once I started eating "real food", that's when the restriction kicked in.

    Like Viking Beast said, although it was counterintuitive, when I increased calories I lost more not long after weight loss surgery, The nurse explained when your body thinks it’s starving it holds onto what it has. She said it’s common; also, when you do start losing again you may lose at a faster rate. It all evens out. I ‘m about 8 months out and just barely over the weight I’d like to stay at. One week I gained one pound. I didn’t freak out. The next week I lost about a pound more than usual. It’s a process. Eight weeks is still early out and your body is getting used to it’s new normal. You’ll get there!!!

    Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first

    Have a mixed NSV from today! I'm 5 weeks out, and flew Southwest today to visit my parents for the holiday. I paid in advance for the COS extra seat policy, and when I got there I was stopped by a supervisor and told I wasn't big enough to qualify. I'm down 30lbs since surgery and about 45 since I last flew. The downside is that I'm still big enough that people don't exactly look thrilled to have me as a seatmate!
