Foamies/Dumping? Esophagus Pain? YUCK!
freelee replied to freelee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks, Daisee. It helps to know this isn't unique to me or something more serious that I can't control, now that I know what it is. It did go away after almost 4 1/2 hours,, but boy, was it rough. So far all I've had since is a yogurt and 1 tbsp of peanut butter, and water. Hope I can get a better start tomorrow. First time I've questioned my decision, but the thought didn't last long. I'm so grateful for this surgery, and just need to learn from my mistakes. -
I used to share that love of Oikos vanilla greek yogurt. But I always need to pair yogurt with a carb, since i never was a fan of yogurt. I decided to give up yogurt to let go of the carb need to tolerate it. But I've digress... My must haves are: Eggs/egg beaters cheese sticks (Colby-Jack)/cheese Cashews Peppers, tomato cucumber, spinach/lettuce Tuna Canned peaches lunch meat meats (chicken, steak/today, pork) Water/diet snapple

Clean out fridge -Preop 7/27/15
rln52 replied to rln52's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started preparing for the days after surgery by cleaning house and finding products that are good tasting and on the diet plan. I found a Pacific Turkey Bone Broth with rosemary, thyme and sage. It comes in a small paper container with a twist off cap. 35 calories 9g protein 0 sugars 0 carbs. This does taste good and has saved me when I wanted something that reminds me of real food flavor. Also a Campbell's creamy chicken soup on the go. It has bits of chicken but I strain them out and eat half like a meal. Calories 65, sugar 0.5g, protein 3g and carbs 4g. This is also good. Each day I drink 2 unjury or Jay Robb whey chocolate protein shakes with skim milk and ice - makes it like slushy. I meet my 60g plus of protein. SF pudding & light yoplait yogurt (no fruit pieces) are my other snacks. It took a while but I found options and this has helped me so much. -
Usually it’s Greek yogurt with some fruit, often blueberries if I have them around. Thankfully I don’t seem to be especially sensitive to fruit – it doesn’t make me hungrier or anything. I keep my portions reasonable but don’t measure – I haven’t for years. Luckily the Greek yogurt comes in individually portioned cups so I don’t have to worry about it.

Thanks for all your replies! Not surprisingly, it looks like we have a few common food themes! Greek yogurt seems to be essential for most of us! And the other proteins: there are the staples like tuna and beef jerky, and cheese. I’m surprised eggs didn’t come up much, although they did a little bit. Those diet foods are right up there for some of you, too – the diet drink mixes, Protein bars and powders, sugar-free syrups, etc. Yep! Once you find something you like, it’s hard to pass them up in the store because you don’t want to risk not being able to find them. Bandista, I am right with you about having certain foods around! You mention Peanut Butter and cottage cheese – both are healthy, but both can lead to trouble. I get it completely! Those fresh fruits and veggies are a must-have for me, too. My problem is buying way too many in the store or market when they’re on sale and beautiful. I’m trying really hard to control myself in the store (there will probably be apples and lettuce available next week, too! LOL) so I don’t have to race to eat them while they’re still good.

I was sleeved on Wednesday the 29th and have had the most amazing and easy recovery. No gas pains at all, and only a little pain around my biggest incision which I only really feel when standing and sitting. I've had no nausea and have been able to drink Water with no problems since the night of surgery. It's been wonderful! Today (4 days post-op) is the first day I'm really eating anything. My surgeons instructions are to eat 2 oz of Soup, yogurt, pudding or cream of wheat 3 times a day. And to drink water and Protein shakes in between, to get the needed protein. After Breakfast (2 oz yogurt) and lunch (2 oz pudding) and my cup of decaf coffee with a splash of milk, my total calories added up to a whopping 87. ???? I am now drinking a Protein shake made with milk to add to my numbers, but dinner will be another 40 calories or so. By the end of the day, I will be lucky if I hit 400 calories. Nowhere in my literature from my surgeon does it mention a calorie goal. Does this low amount seem normal?

9 days out, 8 oz of soup?
majorsmama replied to jademanke@gmail.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeons instructions are to only eat 2oz servings of soup, yogurt or pudding at a time. So I wouldn't even attempt 8oz personally. -
You could have thin yogurt with no bits in, thin soups with no bits in, popsicles, protein drinks. i do know what you mean though lol

Paleo for the whole family after my VSG
IcanMakeit replied to Rani's topic in GLP-1 & Other Weight Loss Medications (NEW!)
I like the idea of a Paleo food plan but I would have to modify it to include some dairy. Love my Greek yogurt! Also, I would have a hard time giving up artificial sweeteners. I know they are not healthy, and I'm working on cutting back, but they really add to my enjoyment of my meals. And then there's the problem @@Miss Mac pointed out: I don't burn a lot of calories each day and the traditional Paleo plan might cause me to gain more weight than I should. -
Protein Shake Recipe I REALLY like
JessterNC posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been trying to find a Protein shake that didn't taste like a Protein Shake and I think my wife has hit the nail on the head! She knows I like Peanut Butter and chocolate is good with so much! So she created this for me. I just had a serving and it is soo good. 5 oz container of Danon Light n Fit Toasted Coconut Greek Yogurt 5 oz of low fat milk 3 tablespoons of Jiff Peanut powder 1 Scoop chocolate Protein Powder 4 ice cubes 4 oz serving has 22 grams of protein It may not be to everyone's liking, but it hits the spot for me. Good luck to everyone and I hope you all have a wonderful day! -
dsheive, they also found Barrett's Esophagus while they were in there. Jamie, Yes that is pretty much what I am doing now. they sent me home with a little sheet that said Protein shakes and flavored protein waters, creamed Soups, light fruited yogurt, lots of Water. Hoping pathology comes back good and I can strive forward. I saw my primary care yesterday and asked that he refer me to a dietitian at our little home town hospital. The hospital I had the surgery at is 80 miles a way, but our hospital here is one of their campus's.

Just clear liquids and protein shakes. No yogurt or cream soups. I've had nothing with body sence July 17th-Aug 4th (I hope). I also had an ephogus ulcer so that could be why he's starving me to death. Lol

One Month Anniversary- June 29th
Dibaby44 replied to IamKe69's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Im June 23 and it really is flying by. Although i have to go back in monday to be scoped and opened up. I cant eat anything, even yogurt for the past 5 days. So one bump in the road. Hope you are doing well with it. Im literally melting away. 46 pounds all together -
So it sounds like you are on full liquids now? During my full liquids phase I was allowed strained creamed soups, drinkable yogurt, and, most importantly, protein shakes. I would usually get in two ready-to-drink shakes a day, some of one pouch of drinkable yogurt, and maybe a half cup of soup at lunch and dinner? I tried pretty much every single kind of cream soup my grocery store sold for variety.

@@amylynns I love greek yogurt with berries too. I have decided berries are the perfect bariatric food. A little sweetness but not too much. They come in tiny packages sized for our tiny tummies and they taste so good. I even purchased baby spoons so I can eat my yogurt slowly. I love it so much I save it for the time of day I will be in greater need of comfort. Something like I'll go grocery shopping (I hate it) but then I can have my yogurt with berries. It is the highest food commodity in my trade book. I call it my trade book because I allow myself to get something from my trade book if I provide the work. Something like, if I clean the kitchen, then I can watch a TV show. Those are the little trade games I play. I have all these rewards for motivation, lol. I know, I'm special that way.

@@PinkPolkadot619 Good to hear from you. I ate a bowl of Kellog's Protein cereal with milk the other day. I was thinking the protein would make it "good for me" but hello, it has too much sugar. The combination of milk and cereal which amounts to eating and drinking at the same time - a big no, no made it a horrible experience. I actually had a tummy ache that felt like it went all the way down my GI track. My bad. No more cereal and milk for me. I do love Greek yogurt with berries and not once have I felt sick eating that. My biggest worry is that I will have more then one per day. I have to watch out or I'll live on that. I too eat for comfort and a late snack was a danger zone for me. I have a cup of herbal tea with a little milk, half a teaspoon of honey and a packet of Stevia every evening. It tastes sweet to me and it is very comforting. One pound from goal is absolutely amazing, well done!

3 1/2 weeks post op
meggieo79 replied to meggieo79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! Well I have been having a whole Greek yogurt in the am, then like 1/3 cup of cottage cheese, then a few hrs later 2 tbsp of chicken salad, then a cheese stick then finally a meatball? That's what I had today-I just feel like that's a lot for 3 weeks out? And it fills me up but no lie 2hrs later and I'm hungry :-/ -
I typically do aquafit in the AM. Sometimes I also do a 30 min run/walk in the pool after. I make a Protein shake that typically had half a cup FAGE 0% Greek yogurt, a scoop of Isopure unflavored & whatever additives are on hand. Sometime a tbsp of almond butter, sometimes a bit of fruit, sometimes spinach or kale purée. I add lots of ice and drink half before & half after. According to MFP my shakes come in at about 30 - 38 grams if protein. I then eat a regular lunch & dinner is usually Soup or salad of some sort. If I need a snack in the afternoon I will have either an ounce of nuts, cucumbers, or half cup of yogurt I try to keep my heavier carbs in the early part of the day when I am most active. Book ending my workout with carbs & protein keeps me from getting fatigued.

First day of Phase 2
ThreeFifty replied to mmyers1962's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yesterday was my first day of Phase 2. which is the pureed stage. I made some chicken salad (can chicken, greek yogurt, seasoning and chicken stoc) put it in a food processor and had it nice and smooth. It was so good but I fought to eat about 3 OZ and was so full. I felt it the rest of the evening. it was unbelievable. Think Im just going to try some cottage cheese today. -
OMG-Is it me or are proteins shakes to sweet to handle? Stomach noises too!
Debbieduck4 replied to kcd1107's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Try GENEPRO Protein powder. You can buy it on Amazon. It is tasteless and mixes in with literally anything with no lumps. It doesn't change the flavor or consistency of foods. You can put it in hot or cold items. It has 30 grams of protein per scoop. I usually start my day by adding it to a cup of coffee. I've also put it in yogurt, cottage cheese, Soups, chili, smoothies, juice, anything that is the slightest bit wet. You may like it better that pre-packaged Protein shakes. If you're on liquids still, you can add it to whatever you're sipping on. -

Bufflehead replied to kcd1107's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Try the Unjury chicken soup flavored protein powder. Get unflavored protein powder and mix with beef broth, chicken broth, or miso broth. Mix unflavored with cottage cheese or yogurt (if you are allowed to eat those things right now). Use a half-scoop of protein powder instead of a full one, or if you are using RTD, cut it 50/50 with skim milk, unsweetened almond milk or unsweetened cashew milk. Yes, the terrible noises are normal and yes the diarrhea eventually goes away. Good luck! -
miralax is what I add to my coffee, Protein drink or yogurt just about everyday. I have also bumped up my Fiber intake and that has also meant more calories (200 roughly more per day). My weightloss has slowed a bit I think because of the slight increase in calories but I hated the feeling of "fullness" that the miralax didn't quite help.

About a half a scoop works well in coffee and eggs and yogurt

I am definitely a stocker-upper! On hand for myself (I do a lot of cooking without partaking): 100-calorie Greek yogurts (what did we do before Greek yogurt!) gluten-free cereal (I put a little in my yogurt as otherwise it's a slider food for me. I need to chew) Walnuts, sunflower seeds, almonds Cheese, Grommit! (@@LipstickLady, bet we could open a cheese shoppe!) Eggs -- a fried egg is my go-to when I'm suddenly hungry Smoked salmon. I just feel better if there is an extra packet in the freezer. Olives -- they are something I can have just a couple of and feel very satisfied. Good ones, oil-cured are my favorite. Black beans, kidney beans, garbanzo beans Hummus Celery -- I have to destring it and/or cut up into small pieces Scallions & cilantro --seem to use in everything Carrots, onions, garlic - scallions Ground beef (we only buy organic grass-fed now) Ground turkey (Costco has organic ground turkey, yippee) Things I still can't have in the house: Peanut Butter -- I can't be trusted not to find a tiny spoon and start in...have not tried almond butter for the same reason but I may give it a shot as I used to love a rice cake with almond butter. Cottage Cheese -- I have this when I go visit my parents and I can just have a little, but at home I have a tendency to go back for more, more.... Very few foods hold that old power over me. I am able to ignore the ice cream and sorbet, etc., that we often have in the freezer. Wouldn't go near the breads, pasta or rice, etc. I can even have chocolate in the house -- in fact that should have been on the list of staples above. I let myself have a little dark chocolate when I want it. No depriving myself, that is over.
