  1. I am a few days from a month out, things are going well, I am getting my water and protein. My provider has me moving to full diet this week. I have been so conflicted on what to eat and do, so many opinions. So I have really just started trying things to see what happens, nothing bad of course but I have tried salad and lunchmeats. Spicy things for some flavor. I just don't know if I am doing wrong or not. I have been assuming if I don't dump or have pain, I should be ok. I have vomited once after eating some turkey a bit too fast, otherwise though, I feel good. Is that enough? Is my body going to tell me if I have done wrong?
  2. Some of it may still be swelling..I just got my appetite back this week after the swelling went away and each day I have found Im eating a little more. It also depends on what I eat too, I was getting full on one pack of oatmeal then I added an egg white now its 2 egg whites. Hope you are having restriction from the 2 cc's, only time will tell.
  3. @@jhclikesshopping@gmail.com thanks for the advice, I was stuck! I think maybe I've been eating the wrong things and that's why I'm at a weight loss stall, but I know where to go from here!

    Tuna Never Tasted So Good.

LOL, I had the same thing this week for my first pureed meal and I agree with you about the taste. It was my first real meal since July 30th!
  5. After two weeks liquid diet, surgery on Tuesday and a couple of days not being able to eat at all.... Today is the start of my pureed diet. I had 1/2 cup yogurt at breakfast. And lunch I had 2oz tuna and 2oz. Mixed veggies pureed. All I can say is canned tuna never tasted so good. I'm glad I can keep food down. Dr did fill me a little at the time of surgery so it does take about an half hour to 45 minutes to eat. The wait has been worth it. Also I got really sleepy after eating, anyone else experience this?

    Secrets...

Congratulations on your surgery! I had surgery 6/5/09 and have lost 73 pounds since. I don't know if I have any secrets, but here's what's been working for me: 1. Get your Fills- The band doesn't work if you're not restricted. It took me like 8 fills to get restriction, so don't give up. You'll have to go through bandster hell - just accept it and realize that you'll lose when you get restriction. 2. I don't diet. My philosophy with the band is this is something I will live with for the rest of my life. I'm not going to live deprived and grumpy on an eternal diet. I do focus on getting my protein then vegetables, but if I want a cookie, I eat it and move on. I know some would disagree with this, but it works for me. 3. Get Support!! This is huge. I get support from my family, my Dr.'s office and a great blogging community. I started a blog right before surgery and it's an amazing community. This site is great too. 4. Identify your NSV's (non scale victories). This will really help when the scale's not moving as fast as you'd like. Putting on old jeans in the back of your closet or running a mile can really keep your spirits up. 5. Find some "go to" foods that help with protein intake and the urge to snack on junky things. Mine are greek yogurt, string cheese, Baby Bell light cheese, mini Luna bars and Zone bars. Good luck! This is a great post - I can't to see what others write.

    Terrified Of Eating Out!

Loved eating out before and after my sleeve (was also banded for almost 4 yrs prior to revision). I may get blasted for this but I eat whatever I want. Anything and everything. The only thing I've found is a no no is ice cream. Im a slow learner so I've tried it 5x and every single time I get stomach cramps. The last time I was begging God to get me thru it and Id never eat ice cream again. I still eat burgers Iabout 1/3 of an In and Out Burger), pizza (1/2 normal slice), tacos (3/4 of a Del Taco chicken taco), sandwiches (1/3 of a small Quiznos sub), and buffets (yes, I said it, a buffet). Thank God I can only eat a small amt of food (maybe 6-8 bites of any given meal) so I'm slowly losing. That was my goal of wls, to never diet again. Not eating certain foods seems like dieting to me. Every restaurant (even greasy spoons) has something on there u can eat. I just noticed that ur only 4 weeks out. That changes everything. Forget what I just said (not really, otherwise I would've edited it ) I was still on full liquids at 4 weeks. While I did eat out a few times during this time, it wasn't as easy as it is now (4 mths post). Any restaurant will blend a soup for u (Red Robins clam chowder is yummy thru a blender) and if ur really adventurous, u can ask for anything put thru the blender. They may not recommend pizza in the blender but if ur willing, why not? Like I said, I luv eating out. I eat out 4-7 times a week. Brunch is my fav meal out. Good luck to u
  9. Had to go to 2 work dinners this week and was so anxious about the whole thing. Checked the menu in advance to make sure there was something I could eat at this stage. 1st place was fine but 2nd place had a limitied menu so had to order an entree and nibble on the mashed potatoes. Was anxious about eating so little, eating slowly and in both instances taking most of the food home, thankfully no one noticed/said a thing. It kinda made me sad to see people eating burgers, bread, having desert and not being able to eat. I mean I didn't want it but felt sad. I now dread eating out and don't think eating out socially will be fun anymore.

    Pre-Op Liquid Diet

I just white knuckled it. It was really tough, but it got a bit easier by day 3 or 4 (when your body goes into ketosis). I ate sugar free popsicles and sugar free Jello with abandon (as in - a whole box of Jello a day). I was also allowed a limited amount of broth and tomato juice/V8 (I think a cup of each a day), so I took advantage of that since the sodium in them made me retain water - thus I felt a little fuller. But it wasn't easy. I thought it was the hardest part of the whole ordeal. I was actually relieved by the time surgery day came around!

    Pre-Op Liquid Diet

My experience with the liquid diet was easier than I thought. I felt like I had no energy and everyone said it would pass in 3-4 days. It never did But it is what we have to do. I did have a nutritionist tell me that if I needed I could have some white meat chicken, so I did that a couple of days.

Need to eat more (women only)

I stall during my period. Then about 4 days afterwards, I drop all at once. Oddly, I am really NOT hungry at all during my period and tend to fall back on protein shakes to make sure I get something in.

    Pre-Op Liquid Diet

@Jnfinney : I went from eating my regular pre-op way (which was alot) straight into the 2 week liquid diet. Mine was 3 protein shakes a day. The first 2-3 days was a little challenging in terms of reminding myself that I'm not supposed to eat anything but my 3 shakes, but by day 3-4 it became infinitely easier. In fact, by the second week there were days that I only had 2 shakes and was just fine. If I remember correctly, I had no issues with energy levels. So like @catwoman7 said, if you can get through 2-3 days of sticking to the plan, it will feel less challenging going forward after that (at least that was my experience). Good Luck! P.S. Congrats on your upcoming surgery!! It'll be a game changer!

    Approval

Just got approved for my surgery in 3 days!! I am so excited! I'm sure there will times when I won't be so thrilled, but the roller coaster ride will be worth it in the end.
  15. You are doing great. Didn't notice anything different after the first or the second fill. Starting back to the gym regularly and counting my calories is helping, but unfortunatly not my band right now. 3rd fill is in 2 weeks. It is a marathon not a sprint. Congrats on the loss.

    Typical day 7 weeks post

I pretty much eat whatever I want, just in much smaller quantities now. Of course I want chocolate and chips but those are not on the healthy food list. Looking back on when I was first banded, I lost 12 lbs the first 2 weeks and then nothing for the next 3.5 months. After my 3rd fill I finally had enough restriction to feel less hungry. Up to this point(4 months out), I ate as healthy as I could so I didn't gain more weight. You're doing fantastic so far, just keep eating healthy and go for a fill as soon as you can. I too felt like I could eat anything and had no restriction till that 3rd fill. It will come. tmf
  17. Just curious as to what your daily diet looks like. I'm 7 weeks post and I pretty much have no restrictions. Also I haven't had a fill yet so I lost 17lbs so far but nothing these past few weeks. I'm hoping after my fill the weight starts to come off again. I still have 50 more to go. Thanks
  18. I lost 8 lbs in 2 weeks and my doctor said that was good so 10# in 10 days is fantastic.
  19. So I attempted to go out w friend yesterday and the few places we went I didn't see any options. I'm 3 weeks out and still have to eat mushy- but sick of yogurt and not huge on meat. So I got all snappy and ready to cry because for the first time since surgery realized the struggle this is going to be... any food ideas or websites?
  20. To anyone interested, I had the single incision done by Dr. Jose Rodriguez in Tijuana at Hospital Angeles 3 weeks ago. Among the highest rated surgeons and facilities in Mexico. He has done over 500 single incision procedures and you can't even tell I had the surgery done after only 3 weeks. Highly recommend this amazing physician, team and facility!
  21. There have been several posts recently about emotional eaters so I thought I'd post a different spin. I am a lazy eater. And when I'm stressed I DON'T eat. It's like I am punishing myself; yes, it's a kickback from being sent to bed w/o dinner for some perceived behavior as a child from my abusive parents. So food has never been a comfort for me, but a necessity. In a twist, I still abused eating as an adult because I'd grab what was handy and easy, which usually translated to junk food. I didn't feel like I deserved good food. And...let's face it, it's easier & faster to slurp down a bowl of mac n' cheese than bother with a steak & broccoli. I was sleeved 8/21 and have been doing remarkably well. Except this week. I just noticed this morning that I am slipping back into my old habits. I'm relying on readymade Protein Drinks and Atkins bars. Sure, I'm under my calorie intake and getting Protein, but it sure isn't healthy! Pre-sleeve I don't think I would have caught myself slipping back to my unhealthy habits. I noticed it because I faithfully log into MFP and review my food. I have discovered that I must have easy foods like cooked shrimp at my fingertips or I just won't bother to eat. And my metabolism is so screwed up that my body holds on to everything it can when I don't eat. And I don't lose weight. So food addictions/issues has many, many faces and I'm glad here on VST we can share & help each other.
  22. For me, i've learned to stock my frig full of easy foods and when I do cook, I make plenty for leftovers. I try to cook salmon a few times a week and have that handy. And I buy shrimp trays from Costco, now that my sleeve can handle shrimp. I've tried to make up tuna salad and have that handy, but i don't seem to enjoy it postop. I do need more ideas for easy foods. Getting tired of shrimp & salmon.
  23. oh my this is exactly what i needed to see, i got a morning dose of reality on this one. I am too a lazy eater. I decided to as of yesturday that i was tired of logging food everyday and working out 4-5xs a week and said i was going to give my body and mind a break from loosing weight for 2 weeks. Is this a good choice probably not and is it lazy hell to the yes. But i feel like sometimes i get so wrapped that i all i do is plan my meals and stress about the weight. I grab easy foods all the time . Morning yogurt or coffee and protein, lunch i get grilled chicken or a taco and just eat the inside and dinner well those meals i do have to cook. I know i wanted this surgery and am forever grateful and love seeing that scale go down. So even with all that said I am doing the 2 weeks break will I eat junk no but i will not log what i eat or plan, my sleeve will let me know i have had enough and i will still make the better choice in foods so wish this lazy eater luck the next 2 weeks .
  24. Losing weight with the band is not fast. Some do lose fast in the beginning but that is rare. Normal weight loss is 1 to 2lbs a week. There isn't any sense in getting upset, discouraged, or want to give up because you are a month post op or a few weeks and you haven't lost 70lbs. You didn't gain weight over night. It was a period of years of bad eating habits that caused you to gain 100 to 200lbs so getting it off in a short amount of time unless you are starving yourself is not going to happen. If there are those who lost weight quickly then good for them but it took me 3 years and of absolutely no cheating to get all my weight off. If you are a smoker and quit smoking it is even going to take you longer. Yes I know that from personal experience. You can't drop weight rapidly with the band unless you are some circus freak that lost 200lbs in a month. It's not a fast process but it works if you just allow it. 52lbs weight loss in a year is better then 52lbs of weight gain. A loss is a loss no matter how you lose it or how long it takes you to lose it. Be patient it will come. Rome wasn't built over night and neither is the road work here in Jacksonville done over night. More like a period of years. Stop weighing yourself everyday. If you can't wrap your head around the scale that your weight can fluctuate up to 9lbs because of Water weight then stop being a scale monger. Weigh yourself at your doctors office. The more you weigh yourself and get discouraged the more likely you are setting yourself up for failure. It's not a race and you don't have to be the first one to the finish line. Stop letting the scale wreck your day or month. Just do what you are supposed to and it will happen.
  25. theoretically, yes, but it doesn't work that way for everyone. There are obviously other things that factor into this - because I have to eat well below my supposed BMR to lose, let alone my supposed BMR + activity level. there is a test you can take to get your actual BMR (as opposed to using one of the online calculators). They have you breathe into something. I don't know how accurate those are - but probably moreso than the internet calculators. The easiest way is to just experiment with different calorie levels and see where you maintain and where you start to lose. It took me awhile to figure mine out - it was just trial & error. I was eating 800-1000 calories from about eight months out to around the year mark. After one year, I was at around 1000-1200 and still (S-L-O-W-L-Y) losing. I've been in maintenance for the last 3.5 years, and I figured out I could maintain it if I stayed within a 1500-1700 range most days. But this might be different for you. The best way to tell is just to experiment with different ranges and see what happens. are you losing weight at 800-1000 now? Do you want to, or do you want to stop losing and maintain? P.S. if you start playing around with different calorie ranges, you really have to do it for two or three weeks to get the full effect. It may take that long to see to the effects on the scale. If you want to lose weight but the scale hasn't moved from whatever range you're working with at the time, then you'll need to go a bit lower.
