  2. Hi Everyone My name is Vickie and I had my gastric sleeve surgery on 10/1/18. I am very excited to come across this website because having support of people who have gone and are going through this process makes all the ups and downs bearable. It's been 1 month since my surgery and have lost 25 lbs and prior to surgery, I lost 30 lbs. The challenge that I am undergoing is still being able to keep my protein intake. I hope to connect with people who are going through this process and make new friends.

    November 2018 Sleevers!?!?

I was originally scheduled for Nov 15 and my dr RESIGNED last week😫 So I have been rescheduled for Nov 19- no biggie I suppose (or that's what I'm telling myself) with a different surgeon in the same clinic. ANNNNND I'm currently sick- so I'm going in for some meds this afternoon to try and kick what's going on with me. BUT i'm counting down the days and I start my preop next week- lots of appts this week with Nutritionist and Preop appts. SOOO I'm super excited! I'm ready!!!!!
  5. I have a desk job as well. I had my surgery on a Thursday (sleeve) and returned the next Wednesday. I work 10 hour shifts and only "problem" I had was sitting down for long periods of time, so I took frequent breaks walking around for 5-7 minutes and everything would feel better. Hope that helps !

    October 2018 Sleevers

A friend recommended a local chiropractor several years ago and today I went to see him. Aside from constant pain from surgery, I was in a car accident 7 years ago and have never been the same since. This chiropractor may have just changed my life for the better. He used laser therapy and explained how my nervous system is out of whack from surgery and any other major medical issues I've had during my lifetime. I had gastric sleeve on 10/30 so tomorrow is my 1 week anniversary. I have been feeling so dizzy, tired, no energy (even though I'm drinking plenty of water and getting in protein). I haven't been sleeping well, even with sleep-aids. After this appointment, I feel at least 50% better and have energy that I didn't have this morning. If you have an opportunity to see a doctor who uses laser therapy, I highly recommend it. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27841968 - I just found this study online as well.

  9. Thanks for the article @Matt Z. I saw this study a while back and was convinced that daily weighing could stay. I think it really helps me. It can be a head-trip when the scale makes me its little bi*ch, but I just have to suck it up and get on with life. I do think it holds my feet to the accountability fire though and for that I'm very grateful! https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4380831/ @Green_Tealael, this study used men and women... Methods Study Design As previously stated, we present a secondary analysis from the WEIGH study. A detailed description of the study design, intervention and report of the main outcomes has been previously published.9 Briefly, eligibility criteria included adults aged 18–60 years, body mass index (BMI) of 25–40, Internet access, and no medical conditions that might affect participation. Participants were recruited predominantly from the Chapel Hill, NC area. Following eligibility screening, informed consent was obtained and baseline measures were collected. Participants (N=91) were then randomized to a 6-month daily self-weighing intervention (n=47) or a delayed intervention control group (n=44). All participants were reassessed at 3 and 6 months. Data collection occurred from February to August 2011 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill institutional review board approved and monitored the study. Measures Demographics At baseline, a variety of demographic variables were collected to help characterize the sample including age, sex, race/ethnicity (American Indian/Alaskan Native; Asian; Black or African-American; Hispanic, Latino, Portuguese, or Cape Verdean; White; Other), and education [Grade School (6 years or less); Junior High school (7–9 years); High School (10–12 years); Vocational Training (beyond High School); Some College (less than 4 years); College/University degree; Graduate or Professional Education].

    July Sleeve

I'm happy everyone is successful post surgery. It is a life style change and we will all do just fine. I have lost a significant amount of weight. Unable to do the physical activity I thought I could due to low calorie intake and low carb intake. Met with the dietician and going to make modifications. I find if I meet my protein goal I don't meet my fluids intake since I had a reaction to liquid protein and have been eating my protein primarily since week 3. I have lost 52 pounds since July 18th- my surgery. I lost 10 pounds on my 2 week liquid diet. Our dietician will not let us consume that much protein since it will damage our kidneys, just be mindful of that. Research shows it can cause kidney stones as well. Our dietician classes gave us guidelines. Per your dietician or nutritionist, how much water or liquids can be consumed an hour? just asking.. I read up to 12 ounces. I forgot to ask my dietician.

    Lots of cheese

Hahahaaha! OMG. This still annoys me! All the FB recipes that are the little movies, are like gooey cheese bombs. And I "get" that Americans tend to think cheesy/gooey=comforty delicious lol...but gawd! Stop it! LOL. Cheese makes post-surg pooping just a nightmare for me, despite gobs of fiber from plants/berries/nuts and a couple of stray beans, plus Miralax, plus colace. LOL. And post RNY, if I eat too much cheese, I get very nauseated. For the most part to this day at 1st Goal and almost 10 months out, I eat cleanly--very simple. No recipes necessary. LOL. Cuz recipes add not only time in the kitchen, but also add calories, You can pack in a butt load of food for 600-800 cals/day that is deeply nutritious: 1. lean proteins: fish, seafood, chicken, turkey, egg whites, eggs, lean cuts of pork/beef. and of course you also have plant proteins--which I don't really use as protein sources--more as condiments, but that's up to you. 2. low glycemic veggies 3. healthy oils (avocado, avo oil, evoo, coconut oil, sesame oil, grassfed butter, nuts/seeds) 4. some low glycemic berries Meals take about 10-20 minutes max and that's only if I have to grill that night. But we grill to have quick leftover protein sources, or quick saute in a pan, or use the GF grill so it's easy peasy...

    October 2018 Sleevers

I had my surgery on 10/26. I only told my closest friends and immediate family. They are all very supportive. Not everyone needs to know. People can be judgmental and who needs that ... what is most important is you did what was right for you. It is your personal journey. I had someone at work ask me what type of surgery I was having and basically told them it was none of their business besides it was a HIPPA violation for her to even ask and since we are not friends I didn't have an issue with telling her to back off
  13. And I wish you good reports,on every thing TODAY. I am a month ahead. of you, more healed that is debate-laden. Had life and shelter problems, my diet is not all it should be, it's just before 6 Am , woke up, and trying to decide what to do first. Think I'll call and leave message at local Furniture bank, critcal need for additional furniture. Had to leave former housing, could not move beds, son trying to sleep in one remaining chair, feet propped up on pillows, I am in recliner, at 72 I have 2 artificial knees, I cannot sleep on floor, still recovering from bypass surgery, slowly because I have a stricture, on brothes, Protein shakes, strained soups, fluids, vitamins, zofran, Wellbutrin, carafate, omeprazole, magnesium, ditropan( for urinary spasms) carafate( along with structure I have gastro intestinal ulcers). Had to move Early Friday, morning, scramble to find housing, to keep eviction court case off my records and that,of my son's who was been legally punished for only living with me, I was supposed to seek alternative housing. And oh I struggled, I am over 65, my son has medical issues which preclude working outside my home, so you could say he is medically disabled , and we have 2 cats, have for 6.5 years, a great joy and stress reliever for us a both. Being as i am widowed and on Social Security, I am paid once a month, and no I cannot and will not forego the other 3 , they are my little family. Did not receive my monies until November 2nd, took last little bunch of my ready cash to rent dumpster to dispose of 18 years accumulations of items, and inheritance from both in-laws,parents, son (who died tragically at 31) and husband who died 6 years and 4 months ago yesterday at age 70. With help of family friend who came up with deposit on you-haul 🚚 my son, friend, and i, remember because of slow healing I am still on weight restrictions, packed it with what possessions we could, canned foods 75% of which are beyond my diet currently, a small amount of clothes for Son and I, minimal furnitures, no beds, no table, 3 resin outdoor chairs, are you gainingng pictures in your mind? Couldn't get possession of new place until after I could withdraw money from my bank account, so we had to move truck to parking place outside new place, me carrying pet tote with 2 cats inside, thermal tote with protein shakes inside, had hoped to go back and strip remainer,of fresh and frozen foods from refridg, New landlord was furnishing stove, fridge, washer and dryer, had made arrangements to have electric company to haul off old fridge for $50 rebate( which I could sure use the money from once I could empty it) but would have to leave old stove there. Had. called evil, landlord to beg for an extension until today so I could move, out the rest of my things. Nope, he refused even although I offered to relinquish to release my keys to him personally instead. of giving them to agent to pass on. So I lost 85% of my food stuffs, my winter coats, a good portion of my clothing, the remainer,of my furniture, and you begin to see my sorrows. Never had a written lease, established a relationship between my dead husband and that landlord's dead grandfather many years ago, I believe 1993 on a Gentleman's Handshake, lived in another of their properties 1993-2000 and in this one 2000 on. Now he is alledging we caused the property to deteriorate to point it does not meet health codec when it simply was due to his failure to repair anything Bottom line, I usually walked in fear I would go through floors, shut doors gently, it is,nice to once again have solid floors, insulated walls Windows that don't shake with every breeze, and no leaks. Didn't have a real chance to tell Post Office or Cable company of move so cut off from outside world. If I can't see Postman going by and I mail change of address form, it may be up to 10 days before I can receive any back mails. When I tried to access cable company with no landline or internet access I was told they have not updated service to this location for years and would not be able to send installer/service person until this coming weekend. Drat Spectrum! Every time the former Time Warner upgraded the price got higher and the service did not improve. All I have to access the outside w9rld, 2 Tracphones with an unknown amount of minutes and data and this Verizon which is paid until December 2nd, on monthly Plan. Why am I burdening you people with all this? Because Frustr8 needs a friend, even the clergyman at my denominational ⛪ doesn't know men new since I last attended. Good thing thing God still knows me and loves me. So help, do I have friends left?

Day 1 post Op Band to Bypass

2 lbs a week is quite a reasonable rate of loss... you are losing 8 lbs a month, that's 80 lbs in 10. Just keep doing what you are doing and don't really worry about how fast you are losing, it's not a race and it's a sprint.

    Intermittent Fasting Daily Menu/Results/Accountability

Interesting re stress. I have a job that can be stressful indeed. High media profile, 1000 employees, and some regulatory roles where we stop people doing stuff sometimes. I was perusing through my iPhone ‘health’ app (linked to my watch) and noted something. I have a low resting heart rate nowadays. This weekend, 51 or 52 bpm. But last week, 63-66 each day. Last weekend, 50, 52. And the pattern is consistent. About 10-15 bpm higher on workdays. I checked out three recent days I knew had large stressful events. 71, 71, 69. And that is averaged across 18 hours... I haven’t checked weight correlation - but I eat differently in the weekend!
  16. Well as for me, starting weight 355, at least that I admit to. That was October 2017. When I first started seeking back in August 2015 I was still yo- yo-ing so couldn't give you solid for then, Switched to OHIO STATE March 2018, due to having completed another program twice, drat their fiendish souls and Nasty McFilthy MD who refused me my surgery, some things speeded up. Psych April, Met Nurse Practioners, Exercise Therapist, Dietician Late May, Presurgery consult mid July with Dr Needleman , and date then scheduled for September 5th. I had been gently losing weight until this point. Dr,Needleman, while palpating my abdomen found liver margin in the right subcostal(under rib area. Not "happy" sign, this meant NASH, given a choice of 2,3, or 4 weeks to shrink my chubby. liver down, I chose the entire month of August , and dropped 15 pounds that month alone. SW 319, surgery itself was wonderful , no real pain, no gas to expell. At a week,i had a weird purple, haze travel across my belly, Doctors theory: when doing surgery,a baby blood vessel got nicked, when I got enough Lovenox in my system it started bleeding, nowhere for the blood to go but between the fat and skin. Odd looking like,I was carrying an aliens baby in there. And I had already started dropping weight. I had another sppiintment a week later, they asked how I was doing, Doctor, had said I could move up to,level,3 , I told them I can't do,it, I think, maybe there,is a stricture in there. Oh no no they said, this can't be, you're just swollen inside, and I kept trying and Precious Pouch kept on her mission,of puking up as much as if. not more than I took in. Finally,on October 12, an endoscopy, was done, yes I have a stricture of my,stoman yes I also have 5 additional ulcers, 2 inside my pouch,& 3 more 9n the the back wall of my jejunem, the portion of my small intestinal wall. my pouch connects to. I m telling you all this because, when you use phone instead of computer, you cannot, enter things on profile. Another one on 10/26 , not successful and another coming ZN

      Hi!

I had my post op appt last week, was cleared for eggs if I want them but my surgeon really wanted me on puréed for another week. I see them again on Wednesday so will see what he says then. Overall doing good but struggling with getting the liquids in, the flavors I liked before I don't care for now. Although this past week has been better, I think the anesthesia effected my taste buds a bit 😔.

      how are you doing?

    2. %^&

Weird that you would say that about your taste buds...I am having the same thing happen! My chewing gum tastes AWFUL😛 lol which is such a shock! I'm doing ok on the liquids, drinking herb tea at night but I still may be coming up a bit short as well.

My surgeon was very happy with me but still on purees too. I LOATHE the canned soup, but made some homemade butternut squash soup that was divine! but I'm out of ideas for soup and don't want to make it everytime...have you found any you like??? 🍜

    3. Born in Missouri

      Born in Missouri

Your taste buds and your sense of smell will be wacky for months, if not longer. It's a common and unpleasant side effect. I've heard it improves, but I'm still not noticing much. I had my bypass in June 2018. The hard part is no longer enjoying foods you used to love as much and craving foods that you used to be able to take or leave. I am obsessed with eating okra. Go figure.

This sense that everything tastes and smells awful won't last forever; it will just seem like it. Welcome to the forum. We love new members. We're a friendly group and love to help.

Slipping back to old habits - scared

I love the suggestion of a next big goal. I am within 10 lbs of goal and I’m struggling to get there. I am missing that high of losing weight every time I get on the scale. Maybe you could make a fitness goal?

  24. I am a nurse as well! I had my sleeve on 10/30 and was terrified. I think the biggest thing that scared me was being intubated. Everything went well, and aside from a bout of intractable vomiting from the anesthesia I have done pretty good. I have had minimal pain and haven’t needed pain meds. No more nausea and vomiting since I got home. My biggest challenge is to get fluids and protein in. And I’m sooooo tired still. Best of luck on your surgery and keep us posted!
