You just have to get up and walk around.. The house even! A good rule of thumb is to make sure in your waking hours that you are up and moving about for 10 to 15 minutes per hour. -
I'm in the northern suburbs. I had mine done at northshore highland park. Dr haggerty! His team is amazing. My sleeve was done on Monday 6/10

Banded But Not Restricted
momomia59 commented on NettaRue's blog entry in Banded June 18 but not restricted
Hi Guys, I've had my band in for 10 years so I thought I would just throw in some of my experiences. The first 6 months are the hardest. I did not lose any weight the first 3 months and finally went in for a fill. Wow..after I had my fill I was sick for about a week, couldn't keep any food down, dehydrated feeling horrible. I decided to suck it up got throught it. Drank gatorade, stayed away from water it made me feel very heavy and would cause me to throw up. I drank protein drinks, yogurt, the typical "slide down" food until my band felt like it eased up from the fill. I was starving, but you have to learn to get over that feeling and concentrate on something else. During the next six months after my fill I lost 30 lbs, my fill loosened and I was able to eat better foods. Oatmeal for breakfast, soups, small amounts of meat. The only thing is I have to eat 6-7 times per day. Do not try to consume everything at one time like a regular meal. Its not going to work. Sometimes I'm hungry but only eat maybe 3-4 pieces of watermelon, an hour later I'll eat some protein and my whole day will go like this. You have to find what works for you. -
Hi to all you fellow banders out there. All I can say is "Thank goodness for this website"!! I am 10 days post-band & for the last 5 days I have suffered from a reallly bad tummy upset. I'd not read anything on this subject anywhere else & was really starting to panic. My major concern was with the band slipping! They placed sooooo much emphasis on not eating things for the first couple of weeks that would make your stomach muscles move, so as not to break the stitches keeping the band in place. I'm sure that my stomach must have been moving like a washing machine, the feelings this tummy upset has generated!! Can anyone put my mind at rest on a couple of further points? Up until Thursday, I felt a real restriction when taking my liquids, even small sips of liquid seem to stick in my throat, but since yesterday morning, the fluids have gone down ok. Is this just the swelling in my stomach going down & the fluids passing through more easily or is this a sign that something is wrong with the band? Lastly, my wounds don't seem to be healing at all, not even the hole in the back of my hand from the drip, which is only small. I have changed the dressings & kept them clean & dry, they don't seem to be infected or anything, but I'm worried that the stitches will have dissolved & the wounds aren't closing up. Is this normal & is there anything I can do or take to speed up my bodies healing process? I've emailed the hospital for their views on the above, but with it being the weekend, I don't expect I'll hear anything till monday, earliest. Many thanks, in ancticipation! Suzi ;0)

OK... so most of you know me as a member of the Banded b*****s. I have been called RUDE, SNARKY, UNHELPFUL. WONDERFUL, A LIFESAVER, all in the same day. Such is life. Maybe, it would help if some of you knew more about me. I am currently 63 years old, banded at 62 on October 31, 2011. I am 8 pounds from my personal goal, but have achieved my GP, WL Surgeon, NP and Nutritionists goal of 175. I moved my own goal down to remind me that this is a life style not a short term diet. I will always keep working. I am 5'9" tall and no wear size 8 jeans, down from 20/22's My highest weight was 263, On the personal side, I am a wife (29 years with hubby # 2, # 1 and I parted ways.) I am a mother of two girls one 40 and the other 37. I am a grandmother to two gorgeous ladies, Morgan soon to be 13 and Grace 9 1/2. They belong to the older daughter. I have 2 great son-in-laws as well. I am the Godmother of two other young girls, Grace and Eva. I have been retired for almost 10 years. My hobbies are quilting, golf and traveling. My husband and I have been to all 7 continents and over 50 countries. We actually lived in Brussels, Belgium for 2 years, and still miss our favorite Neuhaus Chocolate. Good thing we are not there now, or I might have even more problems maintaining weight loss! LOL I have been an active member of LBT and really like helping newbies. My less than polite side come out when people ask what I consider stupid questions.... Like "gee do my scars look infected to you" or I went out drinking and threw op for 36 hours do you think I damaged my band." If you want positive help from me stay away from asking medical questions. We all have surgeons, nutritionists and other medical professionals for that. If you hurt take a pain pill or call your doctor. I love my LAP BAND and all the members of my private social group the Banded b*****s, so don'; pick on them either. We are all here to learn and help. I learn new things every day, and I hope a help a few other along the way. That's it for my first ever blog. I planning to go in for a fill next week, let you know how that goes. It will be my third. CHEZNOEL, AKA Princess Grammy.

I agree that it's a good thing to ask your MD. I was banded 3/19 and had the same thing happen. I was sure something was wrong but it ended up to be gas. Now -- when I get that I know what it is. It usually happens when I have not been drinking enough fluid.

My dream size is 10 - 12. In other words normal. I lost down to this size back in 1994 and the old saying came true for me loose weight get pregnant. Well I have not reached that size since. I have set my goal to be the weight I was for this size. -
Are there any SIZE Goal sleevers out there?
Globetrotter replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sizes vary so much by manufacturer, and now with the rampant use of vanity sizing, I can't really say that I have a size goal. However I have noticed that the higher end clothes are smaller in the same number than bargain clothes, for example, a J Crew 10 is a lot different then an Old Navy 10. So if I had a size goal, it would be brand-related. I would like to wear a White House/Black Market size 6/8, a J Crew 6/8, and just be able to fit into anything from Anthropologie. =) -
Are there any SIZE Goal sleevers out there?
BlackBerryJuice replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Well, I've made my size 8 goal! My waist is more like size 6, but I've got another 2-3 lbs I wanna lose off of my inner thighs/butt - it's between 6 and 8 now. So I guess my new goal is size 6? But man, am I tired of wasting $ on new clothes! I just started wearing these size 10 pants like 1.5 months ago and I can't even wear them with a belt anymore! I ordered a size 8 on Ebay, but by the time it gets here, I suspect I'll need a 6. I've literally been going shopping AT LEAST twice a month! -

Sheila replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I love this thread. I have never been much of a "fashionista" because I always thought I looked horrid in clothes. I current wear a size 26, and the jeans I wear are already getting very big on me. Last night, I was able to pull them down without unfastening them. I think my "size" goal is 10 - 12. If I can get into a 10, I will be definitely be doing the happy dance. I can't remember the last time I have wore a size 10, probably was a young teenager 13, 14. Not quite sure. I just turned 45, and I am determined to be one hot 50 year old! Lildiva, I have never been much of a diva myself, but I can see myself turning into one and I am ready willing and soon will be able. -
I had my sleeve 10/19/12. Down 75lbs and very happy! It's the absolute best thing I have ever done for myself! Dr Hoehn saved my life!

Sleeve Veterans: What makes you successful long term?
imadethelist replied to OutsideMatchInside's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I'm 3 yrs out, down 130 lbs and maintaining!! I lost 40 pre op on my own. I think this was key for me. As it helped prove to myself that I was ready and could do this long term. Like most above, I followed the program to the letter for probably a solid year. That really helped me totally changed my eating habits and it's "just how I eat now" so I don't think I'm on a diet. I exercised as soon as possible. Walking shot distances at first and adding distance and speed gradually. Now I do 8-10 miles a day 5-6x weekly at a pretty fast pace. Exercise too is just now part of my life. I need it to maintain and feel good. I still track everything, Eat protein first, drink all my water, alcohol only on rare occasions and then one is plenty, and I'm still and hopefully permanently off pop. I also control the food that enters my house. So I don't keep junk food in the house. I know that isn't realistic for all. But really nobody living in your house is gonna die without junk food. The result, if I need a snack or mental eating...it's still a healthy choice. I don't deprive or avoid any food group or type. If I want pizza I get it, I make sure it's my favorite (no point eating bad anything) I have a small piece or two and move on. The great thing is a small amount always satisfies me so I don't have to feel guilty. And guilt free pizza tastes soooo much better. I always say.... the second bit doesn't taste any better than first. (Really think about that) So often one bit of something "bad" takes care of my craving. I hope this helps a newbie if I can do it anyone can!!!! Best wishes all -
You're going to be in great hands with Dr. Aceves & I echo crosswind in saying you are NOT going to die on the table. He is a great surgeon with many, many VSG operations under his belt and his experience will pay off for you in the long run. I thought about writing a letter to my children (10 and 7) only because I was worried about my plane crashing. I didn't have one ounce of fear about undergoing surgery. Not a single, solitary bit and this from a woman who lost her dad on the surgical table 7 years ago. He was very sick with heart disease and the operation was extremely risky and we expected complications anyway, but it still leaves a scar. I admit, the first surgery I had after he died scared the crap out of me because I was worried I would never wake up, too, but the happy juice/pill you get really does make you not care. I've had 5 more surgeries since then and the VSG was by far the easiest and least worrisome for me. Congrats on your surgery!

down 30 lbs since surgery The dr asked me what i could eat I told him i could eat what ever i wanted but was eating about a 1/2 a cup 5 or 6 times a day and was hungry. He said he wanted to start off with a small fill 1 cc in my 10 cc band He gave me some water after he was done and told me to drink it fast, I thought this was funny since in the hospital he was telling me to drink slow since i puked right up on him as soon as i got to protine shake, I laughed and said to him your telling me to drink fast last time you know what happened he laughed and said good point i be on the other side of the room, I drank it nothing happend, I had my nurtion vist who taught us how to live the rest of our lives. She said saying your never going to eat bad food again is silly you just need to be prepared for the times it dose happen. She said no more protine shakes I said I relly liked them in the morning they fast easy tast good and filling and i add stuff to mine, She said okay. I have to go back to lquids for 3 days then mushies for 3 days then it onto the rest of my life, Next fill wil be september I had some problem when i drink too much protine shake i vomit up alot i thinking this may just take some time i can drink water fine and i had some apple saus as a snack no problem It just the huge protine shakes i make so i need to learn my limit

10 days post-op and nothing but diarrhea
tran posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my sleeve on 21 Nov 16, I have had nothing but diarrhea several times a day. If I keep this up, I don't think I will be able to stay hydrated. Has anyone else experienced this and what did you do to resolve it? Sent from my SM-T817V using the BariatricPal App -
I am two months out and have learned from the board that everyone is different in this respect. I also have a hard time gauging when I am full, but it is because I sometimes eat too fast. The best thing to do is like bunny said; figure out a set amount, eat it slowly and then wait about 10 or 15 minutes. If you are full, you should feel it by then. I know that I will eat four-six ounces and then 10 or 15 minutes I feel a definite full feeling. Good luck finding your full!

Nervous about upcoming RNY surgery!
butterfly2433@gmail.com replied to Janifer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Janifer! Just wanted to give you an update...I had my surgery on 10/29. I had quite a bit of pain for the first 24 hours or so until they finally was able to manage it with the correct pain meds. They said that since I have chronic back pain and I am on daily pain meds already, that the normal pain meds that they give someone coming out of surgery was not working for me. They adjusted everything though and got the pain tolerable. So after that, I only had to stay 2 nights and once I could tolerate full liquids they let me go home. I went through my first week with full liquids ok. I did get very emotional for a few days starting on the Saturday after my surgery. That was a little rough, but it seemed to last about 3 days and then I was ok. Now I'm just in the middle of my 2nd week and I am able to eat puréed food. That was exciting! I've never really cared too much for refried beans, but let me tell ya, those beans with some melted reduced fat cheese and just a little scoop of Greek yogurt tasted amazing that first day!! Everyday things are getting better and better and I'm so glad that I made the decision that I made! I wouldn't change it for nothing in the world! So how are you doing? Hope everything is well with you! -
Driving after surgery
DeniseM replied to 2013sleevegirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started at 10 days. It was still really painful to turn and look behind to back up, but other than that, no issues. You do have to be off all your narcotics for at least 24 hours though. -
Getting a fill and still over eating
2muchfun replied to ashleym_rosario's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Eh, 10 lbs or so is nothing over the holidays for me. Unless you're so tight that you seldom feel hunger, this time of year can be difficult. Gear up for the New Year and look for those satiety signals. tmf -
New here and op's next week - scared!
James Marusek replied to annelisem's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
There was very little pain for me. The nurse who administers pain medicine would come in every now and then and ask me my pain level. I told her 1 on a scale of 1 to 10. She would leave very upset. After surgery I walked every 2 hours. The nurse came to me after a while and said that I should reduce the number of laps that I was walking. Walking really helps with the recovery. -
Diet before surgery going too well?
NewBeginning2015 replied to chrispina's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@chrispina, I had that debate too. For me, the decision came back to statistics from a clinical trial on long term weight loss that my primary care physician showed me, which I have posted below: Dietary/lifestyle therapy provides <5 kg (11 lbs) weight loss after 2-4 y, pharmacologic therapy provides 5-10 kg (22 lbs) weight loss after 1-2 y, and surgical therapy provides 25-75 kg (55-165 lbs) weight loss after 2-4 y. Weight loss of > or =5% baseline weight is not consistently associated with improvements in cardiovascular risk factors. The conclusions very clearly showed that I was much more likely to have success via WLS. Link to the study abstract is below. Systematic review of long-term weight loss studies in obese adults: clinical significance and applicability to clinical practice. -
I've had my lap-band for 19 months now and for the past 2 1/2 months I have been having diarrhea/stomach aches everyday. So I went to a gastro. Dr. and am to get a colonoscopy and an endoscopy in 2 wks so went to my lap-band Dr for a total unfil for my endo. Well, that very day I did start feeling better after my unfill, I only had 5.5 in my band so I didn't think it would make such a difference in how I felt but it did and now I don't have the stomache aches anymore and the diarrhea is gone. I really think it's my band that was making me feel this way. Has anybody else experienced this??? Thanks, Alice
