  1. I read several posts within another thread on bicycling and it has me interested in taking it up as an exercise regime especially when we go camping on weekends. I know most skinny tired racing bikes would not hold up to 400 lbs and the ones I have seen on the internet for "Big People" are way out of my price range. Would a Schwinn Heavy Duty handle this kind of weight? Any other affordable bikes out there? :help:
  2. Congrats! your still doing great!! from what I understand, the Doctors dont even expect weight loss at this point. Not until your first fill! so dont worry!..
  3. Your doin better then me! Ill be five weeks out on Thursday. I've lost 13 so far, 8 before surgery, and nothing in like 2 weeks. I feel no restriction whatsoever. Since I'm finally back on regular food I'm doing the pre op diet again so that I won't gain. I'm not planning any hard core loss until I get a fill and hit that green zone. Until then I'm hoping to maintain!
  4. Hi, my name is Donna, I've been married for 23 years, I'm a mother of 4 boys, 21, 20, 17, 13. I never had to worry about my weight growing up, never had to diet. When I got married at 21 I only weighed 105lbs. Then they babies started coming, and the weight started going up. I never went over 200lbs with any of my pregancies. Then the next thing you know I was creeping up on the 200lb mark. When I went over 200lbs, I just gave up. I figured I'm not that bad looking, just will buy bigger sizes and look my best. Then it hit, knee problems (4 surgeries), sleep apnea, high blood pressure, and had a cardiac ablation last year. After cardiac ablation, my heart was doing much better. Was released from cardiologist. Until June 2009, was put back on meds for heart rate. He told me I had to lose the weight. He made appointment for me to see a weight loss surgeon and then it all started early June 2009. Went through all the pre-surgery classes, was approved by insurance (they paid) and had surgery on August 26, 2009. Was 228 and to date have lost 36lbs. 192lbs and counting down. I joined LBT for support. I have been going on LBT since surgery and have been informed on alot of different issues I've and and it's nice to know others have had the same problem and we can now Band together. Thanks for all the support. :cursing: Sorry so long, but wasn't really sure what to post. Will keep next posts short. :cursing: Hope to post soon.
  5. Hey all. I have been looking around here at all the bookstores and I haven't been able to find ANY books specifically on lapband. I have seen some online but do not have a way to order things online. Does anyone have any old LAPBAND books they don't need anymore. I keep finding books on weight loss surgery in general but none on lapband. If you have any books on Lapband/gastric banding please Private message me. I would SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO appreciate it. Thanks so much.

    Hanging skin

True, but building muscle beneath the skin CAN help fill some of the void left by the weight loss and decrease the looseness. Many here have been successful with this. It depends on many factors of course, and it won't fix it completely, merely decrease the problem.
  7. Hi everyone, just wanted to say hi to all on the forum. I am from England, just outside of London and have not been banded yet. I have my consultation 27th Oct and hopefully surgery sometime in November. I am very exicted about this as have been overweight for a very long time now (BMI 36). I just wanted to say that this forum is fantastic and I have been reading many of your comments and it has given me that extra push to go ahead and do this. You are all so positive about this procedure and have done so well with your weight loss. Sometimes I feel like a bit of a failure that I havent been able to do this with just diet and exercise, particularly as my husband is a personal fitness trainer, but after 10 years of being overweight enough is enough! Thanks Gillian

    Adjustments

I have had 6 in the prior 8 mos or so. No need to wait for mos to have another... Remember, as you lose weight, the fat around your stomach and under your band shrinks - which means your restriction loosens up. That's why adjustments are necessary. Some of that 48 lbs came out from under the band. Get another fill. :]

    Just wanted to share!

Wonderful for you! I am 19 days out from surgery and have lost 25 lbs. I found some clothes in my closet that I never wore because I bought them and then quit smoking so gained weight and they were too tight. Now they fit beautifully! My hairdresser noticed yesterday I've lost weight. Others are commenting they can see it! I just know I feel better. And I haven't taken my diabetes medication in over a week! My fasting blood sugars are within normal range! We are well on our way! If it seems slow going just remember the slow weight loss is usually the permanent weight loss!

    Saturday's Positive Post

I had become very lethargic because of my arthritis and pain in my knees; which added to my weight gain. When I saw the orthopedic doctor, he said I HAD to lose weight in order to get my knees done and get some pain relief... I had thought about WLS before, but now I was even more propelled to look into it... I wish I had done this sooner. I have gone back to the orthopedic, who was VERY pleased with my weight loss and we are planning my surgery for the beginning of '15!!! Once that is done, I am hoping to be even more active and looking forward to pain relief in my left leg (first one to be done)... I couldn't have gotten here without WLS... the past year I have been maintaining with a 5 pound variable... tho I'd like to lose more, right now I'm just not active enough...BUT I have MAINTAINED for a year, which has NEVER happened with all my "diets" before this tool was "installed" LOL
  11. Does MX LB surgery qualify for FLEX spending account. I would like to pay for it with pretax $'s. The group that handles our Flex Plan is STILL checking into this. They really have NO Idea. They are The Benefit Group. Has anyone else had experience with this. I am going to be self pay - as I have a lower BMI and Doctor's in states won't consider it until a person is "further down that road" and believe me I am WELL on my way. Have been ALL my life. I just want off the nightmare ride of the Weight Roller Coaster. Thanks for input!
  12. I reached a 50 pound weight loss. I am so proud. It is the little things that make me smile like - I can zip my coat, stomach not touching the steering wheel LOL, pants fitting loose and now having to wear a belt etc. I am loving this sleeve!!!

    How much carbs on AVG?

Carbs can be a friend or foe and everyone has their own sensitivity to them and the type and timing seem to play key roles. With me, they are a friend to help me with my weight lifting. I have lots of lean Protein and a good number of complex carbs for my 2-3 meals after a workout on days I lift. I really limit my fats those days. The few days that I don't lift, I have more fat (good fats, not saturated if I can help it), and less carbs. For me, the only good carbs for me on my lifting days (4-5 a week) are broccoli, quinoa, oats (no sugar), green Beans and maybe a little brown rice or sweet potato. On those lifting days I probably easily get 100+ grams of those complex carbs along with 100-120 grams of lean protein. The 2 days a week that I don't lift, I'm pretty much low carbing it to around 30-50 grams, but if I go a little over with veggie carbs, I don't really worry about them. My cardio days (1-2 a week), I'm mostly low carbing it.....for now. If my body fat % ever gets low enough, I'm sure I'll have to add a few more carbs on those days to help with energy and recovery. That would be a good problem to have..... With all of that said, the simple carbs......... I try to totally eliminate. With the key word TRY.........but on a rare occasion, I'll fall off the wagon with the sugary or white carbs. Since we are all different, the best way to find out is by trial and error I suppose. Just try to be informed with your nutrition (like with your MFP) and in tune with your body's sensitivity to them and that will probably help a lot. Not sure, but hope this helped.........
  15. I know someone who did this for the final pre-insurance qualification weigh-in ... Drank two 16-ounce bottles of Water just prior to weigh-in = 2 pounds Had 8 half-pound weights stuffed in the pockets of her clothes = 4 pounds Had her husband's large cell phone, her own large cell phone, a digital camera, and her key ring stuffed into her bra = almost 1 pound Wore her heaviest shoes (1 pound each) = 2 pounds Wore two blouses, heavy slacks, her heaviest bra, two pairs of panties (had to put some of those weights in there), heavy jewelry (necklace, watch, fitbit, extra rings, earrings, necklace and a big brooch to pin together the wool shawl she wore atop everything else) = 3 pounds Like I said ... that's what I heard.
  16. My doctor put in 2cc during my surgery and I go in for my first fill tomorrow. I think I need maybe only 1 cc to put me in the "green zone"; I'm eating about 8 oz per meal, but I'm getting hungry after 2-3 hours. I haven't had anything get stuck, although I did find out that I can't eat bread (it felt like a brick was in my stomach), and I know what happens if I eat too much (very uncomfortable). I'd do this again in a heartbeat. For the first time in my life, I'm in control of my weight - it's not in control of me.
  17. I think I might be slightly overfilled. I have a 10cc band and the Dr. put in 2cc's during the surgery. The nutrionist thought I might be overfilled. When I look at the red zone handout, it is true that the band stops me and I feel uncomfortable and swallowing is very unpredictable and difficult. I won't see another Dr. for a while. Mine left and the interim dr., has his own practice and isn't making it too easy to see him. This is my second band. The Doc didn't connect a tube first time around. Now he put in another, smaller band, and I live in fear that something will happen. This time around the band is so awesome. So my question is: If I am in the red zone and I have to wait so long to the new Dr., am I damaging my band. If it is true that the band loosens after a while, should I just leave well enough alone? I'm not losing too much weight, which is also an indicator of a too tight band.
  18. Hi all, I had surgery on Tuesday morning and everything went very well. The surgeon was very happy with how surgery went. I'm still sore and moving slowly, but each day gets better. I'm having a bit of trouble getting in the Water and Protein shakes as directed by the doc because it feels so strange and I feel full so quickly. I'm hoping all of that will settle down over the next couple of days. I think part of it is just my wacky nerves, as when my nerves are on overload I have a hard time swallowing food/drink, so hopefully all of that will settle down soon. Looking forward to being healed and getting on with this process of losing weight and getting healthier! :-)
  19. Wow, I hope you get better soon. Congrats on the weight loss.
  20. I'm only two weeks out, but a salad sure sounds amazing! Congrats on the weight loss too!
  21. You will be alright. Although for future reference, remember to stop after you initially make a bad choice. That thinking of "I might as well eat all that I want, since I've already blown it" will get you into trouble. One bad food choice shouldn't have too much of an effect on your weight loss. It is the continuation of bad choices after the initial one that will lead to weight gain. Think about it, when you run a red light, do you decide to go ahead and run red lights for the rest of the day? No, that would be silly. It is the same for food choices. If you make a small slip up, own up to it and move on with your bariatric diet.

    2 weeks out..not a pound lost!?

I'm 2 weeks out today. I lost the IV fluid weight in week one but for the last 10 days I've remained the same weight as I was preop. Spoke to the nutritionist and surgeon and they both said not to worry. But I have the same feelings as you... Sent from my SM-G928I using BariatricPal mobile app

    Telling your boss

You dont have to tell your boss anything, if she asks you just say its personal and leave it at that, In todays health care world to discuss personal health information is agaisnt the law and people can get fired from discussing other peoples medical issues. Just tell her you are fine and its personal I told all my co workers that I am going on vacation that way im not questioned until I come back if anyone should find out......Good luck on your weight loss jouney
  24. I have been very very good about logging all my intake of food, my activities, and my weight every day (Note: I know a lot of people don't like to weigh every day. However, I find that I get very attentive to those .6 and .8 pound fluctuations and it keeps me in line better, rather than adjusting to seeing 1+ pound weight fluctuations over a week or so...my theory being that if you get used to the "pound-plus" on the scales you are more likely to backslide into 2-3-4 pound fluctuations....just my own philosophy). I have noticed a definite correlation between the days I "overeat" (over 950 cal) and the subsequent weight upswing within about 2-3 days. I was out on the web looking for guidance on just how long it takes before the "bad days" turn to noticeable weight gain. I found this interesting.... Temporary weight gain could appear quickly after a large meal or two, but that does not mean that if you've overdone it, you're doomed. After all, daily weight fluctuations are normal. Generally speaking though, if you keep your calories burned in line with your calories consumed over a week's time, you shouldn't gain -- 3,500 calories is equal to one pound. If you do have a surplus of 3,500 calories by the end of one week, most people will be up a pound from the prior week. The most worrisome is the gradual weight gain that people experience, which is more likely to represent new pounds that you truly gain over time. Keep a food diary to try and help combat this gradual weight gain and (you knew this was coming) exercise regularly!

    Self Sabotage

When I first open up MFP to post my weight, I add what I know I will eat during the day. That always includes a desert. Usually some kind of home made fat free sugar free pudding with cool whip. Maybe chocolate chips or peanut butter as well. Then I see how many calories I have left, and go from there. I also eat back some of my exercise calories, and this adds some comfort room for snacks. I am a desert addict, and this is a way I can have it, and still stay on plan. I have made so many other changes, this is one I don't want to change!
