Welcome, 90lbs is an awsome amount... Way to go quiting smoking, that is a very hard habit to break. I quit in dec. when looking in to the band and I did the same thing. I gained over 20lbs. I am soon to be banded on the 25th. Please let us in on your journey, and if you had any problems.. Thanks

Where is the strangest place/person you discussed your lapband?
HarleyNana replied to maryb's topic in The Lounge
Lets seeeeee, WAWA, (gas station/deli store), I told the check out clerk, local bar, one of my DH's friends was commenting about how much weight I'd lost and how'd I do it, yadayada, I told him the Adkins diet, well it was easier and it was loud in there and I think he was drunk, LMAO. I've pretty much told anybody that would listen, unless they were thin. -
I had one today. I went for my annual mamogram. On the paper work they ask if you have gained or lost more then 10 pounds in the last year. So naturally I put yes. When I was finally led in to the torture chamber, the technician was going over my paperwork and ask if I had lost or gained. I told her I had lost 23 pounds. She ask me how. I figured she would see my scars anyway, so I told her I had lapband surgery. She said really! She then told me she had her stomach stapled like 20 years ago, and how awful the experience was and showed me her hidious scar. She also told me a coworker died from the stomach stapling. She didn't know anything about lapband, so I told her everything I knew plus I told her about the wonderful support network of lapband talk. She said she wished it was around when she had hers. Next thing I know she was leading me out of the room back to the lockers. She hugged me and said I probably won't recognize you next time you come in. It was so sweet and special...then I realized...I just had a mamogram and didn't feel a thing!

Not losing, feeling discoraged
Inner Surfer Girl replied to abean204's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. We all experience stalls, and just about everyone stalls about three weeks post-op. If you intend to lose a lot of weight, you will experience periodic stalls. Just follow your program. Focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids. Take your Vitamins and supplements as directed. Exercise. And, Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall -

Hi there, While this site can be very helpful at times, it can also be very discouraging at others. Unfortunately, our bodies are not one size fits all regarding weight loss. I myself have only lost 63 pounds in 14 months and have been discouraged for a long time. The only thing you can do is get fills on a regular basis and keep up with the exercise. It can be very frustrating when you read all of the rapid weight loss success stories on here only to struggle with weight loss yourself. Best advice I can give is do your best and try not to compare your weight loss to others because I know from experience how frustrating it can be. Take care, Shannon -
Stalls happen! Kind of need the tshirt for us sleevers - ya know...instead of sh** happens!! I stalled at week 3, and now again at 4 months out! I haven't lost a pound in 2 weeks - and I started exercising this week with the couch to 5k program! I am increasing my water and I am going to start journaling my food and being REALLY careful with carbs (a few too many little crackers and chips may have been sneaking in!) I refuse to stress though.....honestly, if I never lost another pound, I wouldn't freak out! I am the smallest I have been in a dozen plus years, I am healthier than I have ever been. I like the way I look, and can't IMAGINE being smaller....so if it happens - what a blessing! AT my current weight and height, I am still considered obese until I am under 200 pounds,,,then have to be 180 to be at a normal weight...that is my goal. I just refuse to freak out anymore. I am so thankful for this tool and the progress I have made... I know you think it won't work for you...but it will. Take some deep breaths and relax...it WILL WORK! We have failed so many times before, we just can't believe it - it is amazing....I know! God bless you and hold on - it's a heck of a ride!

How long was your pre-op diet?
VSGmary replied to smilingsarahjo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I did 4 weeks of a liquid diet, didn't kill me, I'm still here standing . I was warned by my surgeon that if he opened me up and saw that my liver wasn't shrunk that he would not hesitate to close me up and have me come back when i was mentally ready for this. Well i showed him how serious i was and after i woke from surgery he was there bright eyed bushy tailed with the biggest grin on his face and then have him thank me for following his advice as it made the surgery go without a hiccup . Wish you all the best with your weight loss journey xox -
How long was your pre-op diet?
Tlemke826 replied to smilingsarahjo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgeon doesn't require a liquid diet at all. No real pre op diet at all actually. Obviously if you gain within the process he will stall surgery because the commitment doesn't seem there, but he recommends a low carb high protein diet but it's not a necessity. -
How long was your pre-op diet?
GreenEyes604 replied to smilingsarahjo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My insurance company required a 6 month supervised weight loss program pre-op, so on my first visit to my surgeon, she put me on a modified diet of replacing 1 meal a day with a Protein shake. I had to do that for 4 months, then beginning month 5, I had to go to 2 Protein Shake replacements per day. After 4 weeks of that, I had to go to all liquids for 2 weeks, and the last 2 weeks I was on Clear Liquids only. I've had many people tell me that my surgeon's requirements were extreme, but I'm happy I did things exactly like she instructed me to. I lost 30 lbs. pre-op, and I've lost another 53 lbs. post op. -
The 5 Day Pouch Test by Kaye Bailey Does my pouch still work? Have I broken my pouch? Have I ruined my tool? These are questions many weight loss surgery post-ops find themselves asking occasionally during their journey. Perhaps it feels like we can eat more food or we know that we are eating more food. Sometimes these questions are asked when there has been a weight regain. This is the 5-day plan that I have developed and used to determine if my pouch is working and return to that tight newbie feeling. And a bonus to this plan, it helps one get back to the basics of the weight loss surgery diet and it triggers weight loss. Also, it is not difficult to follow and if you are in a stage of carb-cycling it will break this pattern. Sounds pretty good, right? Order the 5 Day Pouch Test Owner's Manual The 5 Day Pouch Test should never leave you feeling hungry. You can eat as much of the prescribed menu as you want during the day to satiate hungry and prevent snacking on slider foods and/or white carbs. You must drink a minimum of 64 ounces of Water each day. A reduction of caffeinated beverages is suggested, but do not stop caffeine cold turkey. Weight loss is not the intent of the 5 Day Pouch Test, however, many who have tried this plan report a significant drop in weight. More importantly they Celebrate a renewed sense of control over their pouch and eating habits and easily transition back to a healthy post-surgical weight loss way of eating. Understanding Hunger, Appetite and Satiety Below you will find a brief list of the menu for each day. Please click the "Read more" links for further detail and hints and tips that will enable your success with the 5 Day Pouch Test. Days One & Two: liquid Protein low-carb protein shakes, broth, clear or cream Soups, sugar-free Gelatin and pudding. Read more. Day 3: Soft Protein canned fish (tuna or salmon) eggs, fresh soft fish (tilapia, sole, orange roughy. Read more. what are you doing to loose weight. are you on a special diet?
-
Hi everyone, Is this a thing? Accountability partners? Texting buddies? I'm kind of hoping so. I've been struggling for a little while now which I posted about elsewhere, and I've been racking my brain to come up with something that might help. Because of my schedule I'm not able to attend the support groups hosted by my surgeon's office each month and I don't really know anyone else going through anything similar with whom I could commiserate. In late November 2016 I was sleeved. My highest weight pre-surgery was 347lbs. My weight going into surgery was around 280lbs or just under and my current weight fluctuates between 196-201lbs. At 5'5" I'm hoping to get to at least 150lbs before my excess skin surgeries (for which I have no dates, I just know I'm going to have them probably in early 2019). I think this amount of weight loss is completely doable, but I'm having a hell of a time remaining accountable to myself. I've also found it motivating in the past to have another person kind of working in tandem with me. I was wondering if there was anyone who might be in a similar-ish boat and would like to be accountability/texting buddies? I'm hoping to get back to basics with my diet (have considered doing a sleeve reset diet for a few days) and have a gym membership but find myself not using it. I'd prefer to workout at home but it's hard to get cardio in at home. It would be nice to have someone to check in with about our workouts, exchange recipes or meal planning ideas with, and to support and encourage to meet their goals. About me: I'm 30, in a long-term relationship, dog and cat mom, full-time student, work part-time, have a very weird schedule, and am also in the midst of some very lame Seasonal Affective Disorder. Really love yoga, one day in the far future would be interested in crossfit, like pushing myself (except for when I don't). I struggle with discipline as far as fitness goes but am ready to sacrifice what is necessary to finish making my dreams a reality. Just hoping to do it alongside a new friend. Anyone interested? P.S. If this topic somehow isn't allowed, I apologize.

Years ago, I joined Weight watchers for the manyth time, and did this with two co-workers. One of them was very big, the other and myself needed to lose 20 or so. We thought it would be fun to exchange recipes etc. The person who was large complained from the start that she did not lose anything. The other one and I, lost a few pounds and were patting each other on the back. Then one day, I saw the larger girl with a snickers bar, and I teased her about it. She said "Well it is ok because I didn't eat breakfast or lunch. She never did get the point of eating healthier and she, at least when I knew her, did not lose any weight either. I am not holding myself up as an example because I am now banded, however it goes to having other people put their two bits in when you are making an effort. I totally get it.... Good luck!!!! -
I have hit a plateu since my surgery in 2015. Im thinking of Weight Watchers, but would like some advice, and if anyone know if they can adjust the points due to the size of my stomach. Thanks for any inputs.

Encouragement - Low BMIs pls share
Kalipso2 replied to stef123633's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i had a BMI of 35 and i was banded 04/21/08 weighing in at 213 pounds with a height of 5'-4". i was on a 2 week liquid diet and didn't really lose much weight. after my surgery i lost 14 pounds. after my first fill i gained 2 pounds back immediately. i just feel so hungry all the time... worse than i felt before my first fill. so i'm going for fill #2 this weekend. i lost those 2 pounds on top of 4 more so i'm down 19 pounds in approximately 45 days. its still going to be a struggle even though we have low BMI's... maybe even harder. don't get discouraged. you're just entering Bandster Hell when you have the surgery and don't lose much weight. you may not lose much at all until after a couple of fills. stay strong! -
Well, I have six more days till my surgery. I am getting nervous and excited at the same time. I hope I can do this. Sometimes I get a little scared that I won't be able to loose the weight. Did anyone feel the same way before their surgery. I have a great support system in my husband, but I am still having an attack of the nerves.

Going on 9 years, Lap band still keeping my weight down (Pic)
NaNa posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
This year will be reflection on my long journey, I've had many ups and downs, weight loss surgery IS a journey. I will be 9 years post op this year, and this great little tool is still keeping my weight down. I am still happy and healthy, I don't have to take a boat load of supplements, or kill myself exercising, just an hour walk daily on my treadmill or outdoors helps keep my weight down. I started in a size 26, and my lowest size was a 8, I hover around a size 10/12 at 5'7 inches tall now, I don't have to kill myself at this size -- and still eat what I want, I am grateful to be healthy at 9 years post op and most importantly -- still wearing a size 10... -
Losing weight to fast?
forevadee replied to BandedBelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also lost about 13 pounds my first week. Now that I'm on soft foods, my weight loss has slowed down dramatically. I also don't think I have too much resriction, because I can drink quite a bit, quite fast, and eat about a cup or more of food. I'm almost 4wks post op. But I don't stay full for very long, only a few hrs. Even tho I don't drink @ all with meals, and I'm eating good quality protien first. Anyone have any help for me? I'm still waiting to get a fill on the 30th. But this hunger is just killing me. Do the fills help? -
Losing weight to fast?
shibalover replied to BandedBelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are probably only eating liquids right now, and on that stage calories are low and yes, you can lose it fast. Be prepared, it definately slows. I'm on pureed foods right now and I have noticed my weight loss slowing. I'm still losing, just at a slower rate cuz I'm getting more calories, fat and carbs. -
Lapband journey site
dontgoggilme replied to jmunks2000's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i got a packet of stuff from my doc, too, and it talked about signing up for the site. i signed up and it seems alright. i tried tracking food on there but the automatic look up thing doesn't seem to have a lot of variety of things in the "bank" of foods to choose from. so i decided not to use that. the weight tracking part was ok but my doc is linked to this site called remedymd.com that all the info from my doctor's appointments is automatically logged into online. like when i go to the doctor for a checkup/weigh in, my weight is automatically updated online. when i have an appt, it automatically puts it in my calendar online and etc. etc. it's pretty cool. so far i haven't really used the lapband journey site and i had no friends to add for cheers either so that was kinda depressing. i use thedailyplate.com for food and fitness logging and i seem to like that pretty good and then i use the remedymd.com site for mainly weight tracking as it's linked to my doctor as i said before.
