Google "three week stall." That is what is happening. Just stick to your plan and the weight will come off. Nothing about post-op weight loss is linear. It is full of periods of loss, followed by longer periods of stall. That is just part of the process. Also, it is slow. I started my six month insurance-required diet program at 397 pounds, and weighed 298 pounds on surgery day. Even at that size, my loss in the first four weeks post-op was far from "dramatic." But I have followed my plan religiously every single day, kept my carbs below 20 every single day, tracked everything I put in my body every single day, and even with the countless stalls, I have lost 205 pounds and am 12 pounds from goal at 9 months post-op. Put the scale away if it bothers you and keep focused on what is important. Good luck!

IT IS very frustrating, especially when you hear about people losing 30-40 pounds in 2 months. I'm still stuck at 27 since surgery, but that includes the 7 pounds of just swelling. The day I went in for surgery, I lost 18 pounds. When I left the hospital, it was only 11, because of the swelling. Do I count that? Sure, for a total of 37 pounds, before and after. But since my surgery, I feel like I've only lost 20 lbs at 6 weeks and I'm at a hard hard stall. I work out 4 times a week and the scale is just STUCK. I know I'm older, I've had a hysterectomy and I will lose slower than most. And I don't drink enough water. I have to do that, it's just super hard. Tomorrow, on the advice of my nutritionist and doctor, I'm going back on the liquid fast, protein shakes and water for 2 days to kick start. I hope it helps. LOL I admit I weigh myself daily and I shouldn't. And, at the gym, I'm 2 pounds lighter, and I like that. LOL I know this is a process, but I see younger women shedding pounds like dog hair in the summer, and I'm mad jealous. (LMAO!!) It's a process, and I'm on board for the whole thing. Good luck to you. We'll get there. And may I say, 34 pounds pre-surgery? WOWSA!!!! WELL DONE!

Just curious to see what your Dr's have said regarding post op liquids and how long you're to be on them. Im to be on liquids, basically Clear Liquids PLUS tomoto Soup, including Jello, popsicles, crystal light, broth, diluted juice...ect... for a total of 4 weeks. Just wondering what your dr's have said.....

So Frustrated But Trying To Focus On The Positive

I'm hoping to get my date pushed back a week to the 11th, plus my kids actually offered to help clean and cook. -
The "non-drowsy" pain meds the dr gave me put me to sleep. Man! I wish the back pain would go. It's not as bad today so I'll try to not take anything today but tylenol and see what happens. I'm still losing weight Halleluia!!! :youcandothis:I have a fill in 3 weeks so I'll be glad of that.:car: Love to soak in my new jacuzzi tub. I think these smiley things are cute.

Protein-Why Whey And Not Nector, Soy Or Other?
Holly5.3 posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I've read through my nut. documents and I can't find anything about why whey protein is the preferred protein for Bariatric surgery. Now there's "pea protein" (Dr. Oz show). Does different protein react differently (like fats) or can they be interchanged as long as grams are met? (After 3 weeks Pre-op and now 2 post, the taste of whey is starting to get to me!) -
is it possible to start losing again?????
Twilight replied to feathermack's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I am in the same boat as you. Funny that Janet has posted here before I had the chance to. She is such an inspiration to me and such a wonderful friend of mine. It shouldn't surprise me that she is here cheering you on. I have just recently decided to get back on the bandwagon. For one reason or another, too many to go into right now, I'm starting again too. I originally lost 70 pounds. Have gained back 25 of that. It's time to get back to the program and do what I had decided to do in Dec. 07. My husband and I decided that this was the year we were both going to change our lives for good. We began taking charge almost 2 weeks ago. Here's what we did to get back in the groove. 1. We began with the 4 days of liquids. For me, to quit irratating my band, for him to shrink his stomach back to normal size so he wasn't always hungry. 2. We continued with the 5 day pouch test. 3. Now we are continuing with the divided plate idea, 1/2 Protein, 1/3 veggie, the rest a starch. To be honest, we often leave off the starch. If it isn't there, it can't be tempting. I also went through and threw out all the junk in the house. It was tough but I threw out quite a bit from the fridge and the freezers. We also joined the Blue Cross Blue Shield challenge. It will keep us accountable for the next 12 weeks. See if BCBS has a challenge going in your state. Ours was open to anyone no matter if you were a customer or not. There are lots of those out there, so see if you can find something. Other than that, it's just back to the basics. I'm here to tell you it is possible. Last week I lost 3 pounds, this week I'm on track to lose the same. My hubby lost 9. Don't think it can't be done. Find that gumption that we had when we started this process and tap into that strength you know is there. It IS there because you lost 50 pounds by using it. Good luck! And keep posting here! -

Gastric sleeve to bypass
MamaTo3inNH replied to mickally's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm very disappointed in your doctors. My center stressed, at each and every informational meeting, that if you have even mild regular heartburn bypass is the best route to take. They should have you taking omeprazole (maybe not til your 3 week check up) - that may help. It's taken for six months to prevent ulcers. If it helps, stay on it. That's what I was on pre-RNY for my reflux. Hopefully you're on the mend soon -
Doctor said not to worry about only losing 10lbs at first post op visit
920amy replied to JewelJ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Personally, I was sleeved in MX so I didn't ahve any post op follow up. I had surgery and flew back home less than a week later. My loss was really slow at first, then accelerated, then stopped, then slow, then stopped....I'm just getting off another plateau now. I'm 15 and a half months out, and I think this final 40 lbs is kicking my a**, but I know that slow and steady will win the race. It's easy to get discouraged and to look at the tickers of other who had surgery the same time as you and wish you had their results already, but the most honest and best advice I can give is: Don't compare yourself to anyone else. Compare yourself to you. When was the last time you lost 10 lbs before surgery, how long did it take? Did it take longer and was it more difficult than the current 10 lbs you're lamenting over? The answers are probably yes and yes. Another thing to remember about your loss now, is that, you're not losing weight, you're GETTING RID of it!! That is 10 lbs you will probably never ever ever EVER see again!! How great is that!?! One day at a time, if you do the right things, Protein first, exercise, you WILL see results, you WILL lose the weight, and you WILL look hot and feel great!! Welcome to the losers bench!! -
GERD, Acid Issues Post OP
Bufflehead replied to UpandAtom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What are you taking for it? I was on 40 mg of omeprazole (sp?) for the first several weeks after surgery, 20 mg in the morning and 20 mg at night. If your PPI isn't doing enough (and it sounds like it isn't), check in with your doc to increase your prescription or try a stronger drug. Good luck! -

Well on this same subject... I am 3 weeks out from surgery. The last 2-3 days my port area has been really sore, like right after the surgery. This morning I was in the shower I bent over to shave my legs (which I have been doing since like day 4 after the surgery with no problem) The worst pain shot through my port site. It felt like I was stabbed it took me almost a minute to be able to stand up right again. It lasted about 4-5 minutes. I had to just stand there. Now it is really sore but no more stabbing pain. I put in a call to the surgeon and I am waiting for a return call. It was scary though.

Heeey y'all. I kinda searched around and I know coffee isn't a *bad* thing, per say.. I mean, as long as you don't fill it with a bunch of sugar and creamer and all that other nonsense... You're not really adding much in the way of calories. HOWEVER... I have heard about the acidity and the caffeine can cause ulcers. I'm a month out as of yesterday, and prior to surgery I've always liked coffee, but by no means did I need it. It was just nice to have here and there. I might have had a cup of coffee every 3rd day or so. So 3 or 4 times a week. But after surgery... I am so tired. I drink coffee in the morning... In the afternoon... It's the only thing keeping me awake through the day. I brew it cold, which I've read keeps the acidity down, and not only that, it tastes so much better. But, I'm more or less writing this to see if anyone is aware of serious issues with drinking coffee. No need to ask me whether or not I'm getting enough calories or Vitamins or Protein or fluids in regards to being tired. I swear, I'm doing my best on all of those. I just wanna know if anyone has had consequences of too much coffee after sleeving. Thankies!

Sleeved Yesterday..
Tiffany Talbert Corbet replied to fgotr121's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think immediately after surgery, rest would be first and foremost, protein and liquids next and exercise/walking when you have the energy and feel well enough to do it. Don't push your body to do something it's not ready for. Take care of yourself....the best is yet to come! Congrats! (Mine is 2 weeks from Friday.) -
Yep! It really takes awhile. It took me almost 3 1/2 weeks to really start to feel better. Others are luckier.

Any luck with Peer to Peer evaluation?
jodie1961 replied to ChronicJam's topic in Insurance & Financing
Different set of circumstances, but my Dr had to do a peer to peer after my denial, and it went great. Once he was able to speak with and explain the Doctor at the insurance company it was approved and I got my surgery date scheduled within 3 weeks of that phone conversation. Good luck to you. I remember how stressful the waiting is. Hang in there! -
My feelings run very close to what you've so eloquently posted. I have felt so blessed to have finally built a relationship with God thru Jesus Christ as my savior. This happened unexpectedly a few years ago, and my life has changed so dramatically. I did indeed pray earnestly for the opportunity to get healthy, the strength to stay committed, to treat my body with respect. Once I really asked for it, it happened very rapidly...and here I am 5 weeks post op and 60 pounds or so down working thru these changes in my lifestyle and my diet since the Fall of last year. I realize this is not a race, but a daily devotion to myself and my God as I walk this healthier path.

Has anyone been able to give up their CPAP after surgery?
Losin4good replied to AlbanyDan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had mine since 2005. I have lost 130 pounds since surgery 7 months ago. My doctor has ordered my pressure changed after they put my machine in test mode for 2 weeks to see where it should be. Because about 2 months after surgery i was gulping air. They dont want to do a full sleep study until i am done losing weight. I have fallen asleep a few times without it and i feel like i am dragging all day so i assume i am not completely done with it yet. But my pressure is much less! -
Let's talk...Pre-op diet & your BM's 0.o
Megall9 replied to sassyfrass23's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Mine changed. I'm still pre op, but had to do a trial 2 week liquid diet to "work any kinks out" before meeting my surgeon to see what I liked and if I could handle it. I was in the same boat as you with issues going, and I was worried. I just made sure to drink more and more Water. At about day 12/13 everything changed and I had no issues anymore, and everything was soft. sorry for the TMI, but I hope it gets easier for you as well. -

Hi i know just what u mean . am 11 weeks post op . does improve once u are on solids but i still dont get that nice satisfied feeling . if im not careful just ine mouthful too much and im sick or in a lot of discomfort. I find i am more aeare of nutrition in food than i used to be because of small portio. Still struggling with things like meat tho which are the really filling things so maybe that will imprve hope so so stick with it it does get better but slowly dont rush.
