  1. I am three years out I also gain weight. After my poppa passed away it was 2 years on new years eve .and I was so depressed about it and started gaining weight. Trying to get my on track and now my thyroid is off the charts and I am so mad at myself about it. Sent from my SM-T307U using BariatricPal mobile app
  2. Hello all! I had the SADI-S on July 24, 2020. I weighed 393 pounds at my highest and 368 on the day of surgery. I am so excited because today I finally made it to onederland! When I started out I was hoping to get at least down to 200 pounds. I am so happy to be officially under that number now and I hope to go even lower. My weight has slowed down a lot in the last few months and sometimes it's hard to stay motivated but I am not giving up! My wonderful, supportive husband gave me the shirt I'm wearing in this pic to celebrate. It came last week and he wouldn't let me open it and I thought it was something for the anniversary of the day we met, which also happens to be 18 years ago today. I was so surprised by the shirt. Anyway. I just wanted to share because I am so excited and had to tell someone who understands. [emoji4] Sent from my Pixel 5a using BariatricPal mobile app

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

I am right there with ya. Slow loser I think so too 🥲 Last 4 weeks and I have lost only about 6 pounds. There was ofc 2 or 3 weeks of stall but even now my scale isn't budging much. It can get very frustrating and disappointing when it's only the beginning of the 2nd month. Le sigh, hope by the end of the month I can at least lose 10 pounds in total for this month, otherwise it would be highly disappointing 😭😭😭
  4. I hate to say it but if that is where they stand right now you may not be able to get them on board within a week. I am not sure whether I would even continue to try if I were you. I know that their concern is coming from a genuine place but their expression is not rational or productive. And it’s not okay! My mom has pulled similar stuff with me and it has taken years in therapy to be able to set boundaries with her. Assuming you are an adult you need to be able to make your own decisions free from guilt and manipulation but a change like that will not happen overnight. This surgery is a big decision and it’s one that you should make for you. You don’t need their approval. If you need support, you have found a great source of it right here.

6 Almost 6 months out and have lost

I'm 11 weeks post op. Have lost 37 lbs after VSG, but lost weight prior to surgery, so I'm down a total of 65lbs rn. I aim for at least 800cal a day...to 1000cal. Also try to get in at least 80-100g of protein daily as well. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. So, I’m around 6' - 6'2" 289 lbs and am scheduled to get a sleeve gastrectomy next week and my parents are understandably upset at me going through with the surgery as I had an uncle pass away while getting a similar procedure. I initially didn’t want to tell them because I knew it would worry them, but now that I’ve told them, they’re worried so much more than I anticipated. They don’t think I need the surgery and despite my motivation to use this surgery as a tool to lose weight, my parents think this is an irrational decision. It's gotten to the point where they're constantly gaslighting me, asking if I'm mentally okay, if I need help, etc. I strongly believe in the need to go through with this surgery, but it’s difficult going through with it knowing my parents are holding their emotions as a hostage to deter me from going through with it. I believe it's emotionally manipulative (citing that my decision will push them over the edge, causing them to go into a psychiatric ward, or something worse). There are other things they've told me like I'm not disciplined enough, not working hard enough, taking the easy way out, etc. I'm emotionally exhausted and I’m not sure how to navigate this. I don’t know if they’ll ever come around to accept my decision. What would you guys do in this situation? Should I do a conference call with my surgeon? I’m hesitant to do that, though (one parent irrationally threatened that he would sue the surgeon for going through with it). I just don’t know what to do. I know this is the right decision for me, but I just can't seem to understand their point of view. Any help is appreciated.

    January surgery anyone?

My surgery was on January 4th. Also on day 4 at home. I had gastric bypass and am still a little bit sore. I’m so excited to start adding more than liquids back into my diet next week.

    cottage cheese

I totally googled it and realized I’ve had this before and loved it…just didn’t know what it was called. I’m def gonna make an attempt at this next week!
  9. Let me preface this by saying I'm one of those crazy Scandinavians. We get put outside to sleep when we're babies, for hours, also in sub-zero temperatures. I love the cold, love sleeping in a bedroom so cold I can see my own breath. You just sleep so well. This didn't change while getting fat, obviously. Then, bariatric surgery happened. 1) Immediately. Had to change my bedroom temp from 40F to 78F. No, literally. 2) Yes. A week ago. 13 months out. Bedroom temp is down to 60F. 3) It's not just lack of insulation, but that's part of it. What you're experiencing now will get worse, and then it'll get better. 4) See above. Your body is busy with other things.

Are you a member of the polar bear club?

I’m 12 weeks post op and have also been COLD recently. But is it because I’ve lost 55 lbs, or because it’s winter in Chicago?? 🤔 (probably both) sometimes I have to put on a hoody in my apartment and sleep with socks on.

  12. Interesting post. Happy you all shared. I have my revision from VSG to RNY bypass next week and I am so anxious to know how my body with adjust. I have terrible GERD now plus have gained and lost the same 30 pounds for 2 years. I had VSG in March 2017.

    Panniculectomy worth it?

yes - lower body lifts are pretty painful. My arm lift and breast lift were much easier - but I think it has to do with the liposuction and muscle tightening they do with a lower body lift. I had to use a walker and a toilet seat riser for several days - and those first couple of nights were AWFUL. But....it does end, and in the end, the results were worth it (I had my LBL three years ago - and the arm & breast lift two years ago)

    Driving?

I was told to wait at least 24 hours after I stopped taking pain pills, but I never took any pain pills (I had almost zero pain from the surgery). I think I waited about a week to drive, though. I didn't have much energy and slept a lot the first few days - plus I had my husband here to run errands for me.

    1 month post-Op work out/Exercise?

I went to water aerobics a lot that first year (I still do once or twice a week, but I went a lot more than that the first year. I have a bad hip so walking fast enough or far enough to get much benefit out of it is tough - and I was too heavy at the time to do much else). I think I "rode" the stationary bikes and seated ellipticals at the gym, too. Once I was about eight weeks out, I was cleared to do weights, so I added in the weight machines at the gym, too.

How to Break a Stall (Step by Step instructions)

I stalled week 2 for 5 days finally off it yesterday so these are great and I needed it today! You guys are awesome
  17. I don't have the premium version of My Fitness Pal so I can't see stuff like you can. Plus I just started Weight Watchers three weeks ago and it only tracks points. So this morning I was curious and I put my last several days of WW tracking into into My Fitness Pal and surprisingly my macros were really good. It's about 1100 calories/day. MFP showed that I'd get back into Onederland within the next couple of weeks, which is encouraging. I do enjoy tracking things.

How to Break a Stall (Step by Step instructions)

These are HILARIOUS! Got a good chuckle out of them. I'm in a stall or a pause or something right now due to switching diet plans but I expected the slow-down during a transition like this. These made me laugh.

    1 month post-Op work out/Exercise?

I can't remember back to one month post op as it's been 3 years, but I do remember going to the gym and walking and doing the bike and cardio stuff. I didn't do weights for a while due to weight lifting restrictions and didn't want to pull my incision or affect my new stomach in any way. Now I go to the gym 7 days a week and do both strength-training as well as cardio. On good weather days I walk outside. On bad weather days like yesterday I use YouTube videos and do indoor exercises, walk in place, cardio, etc. I don't have any home gym equipment, so I mainly do cardio and floor exercises. I'm thinking about buying some dumbbells. It sounds like you've got the perfect set-up at home to do plenty of fitness things on your program. Good luck!

    Driving?

I had VSG on a Wednesday morning and drove for 15minutes on the Saturday (airport to home), I had no need to drive after that for two weeks (covid quarantine for two weeks as I missed a deadline to return to my home state, not that I would have driven much in those couple of weeks if I hadn't been in quarantine). There was some mild discomfort but no more than sitting on the plane for a couple of hours. I felt a lot worse getting in and out of bed. I hadn't had any painkillers since the Thursday, though I did same some panadol on the Saturday for the plane flight. Follow your surgeon's instructions and go my your own comfort levels if you need longer than the recommended time until driving.

    Driving?

I never took the pain pills. Drove about two weeks later.

    Going back to work

I work as a bartender, so I'm constantly moving and on the go. Like others have suggested always having a fluid source at an arms reach will be the constant visual reminder for you to drink. Sometimes its hard and I go an hour or so without taking a sip but it's getting easier as time goes on. Also, I usually have an assortment because my taste buds have definitely changed post surgery and can be a little picky so I typically have at least two if not three options (water with lemon, gatorade/crystal light/, maybe a tea/decaf coffee etc)

    Driving?

I didn't take pain pills once I was home from the hospital, I had sleeve, by the way, but the reason that I couldn't drive is because the seat belt rubbed on my incisions. I drove about a week after surgery.

    Driving?

Every surgeon is different. I was told a week if I remember correctly. I remember popping down to my grocery store mid week two & feeling wrecked when I got home. My concentration was pretty crappy, I got weary quickly & my blood pressure was very low so it may also depend upon your recovery & when you feel ok to drive.

Am I really gonna lose weight?

Thanks @lizonaplane I’m in week 3 and couldn’t figure out why the scale stopped moving. It even went up two pounds and I’m only getting 500 calories a day. Glad to know it’s happens to others.
