  1. watch the sodium in the canned Soups. are you cleared for pureed? "having a bad time?" I was recovering in a 25' RV post-op so, trust me, organization was not happening:) I drank a lot of Protein drinks and strained cream of chicken, egg drop, broccoli & cheese Soup, FF pudding, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, Greek no-fat yogurts that was flavored (no fruit) at first. I couldn't stomach the taste of the SF popsicles or Jello. Made me wretch every time

    2 days post op

Oh wow! Sounds like you're doing great. The greek yogurt sounds good. I'll think I'll try that. Any Protein Shakes you really? I'm trying a few different ones to see what I can buy closer to surgery.

    Lap-Band Lawsuit

Hi all I decided to stay home today from work. I will take it day by day to see what I can handle (I am a better provider and a terrible patient). I have been sleeping a lot and doing short walks around the house. Sleep has been difficult but meds do help somewhat (very loopy). My fiance will drive me to work if I decide to go in this week but its a day-to-day thing now. I was in hospital for four day and three nights... also in recovery for almost 5 hours after band removal. @@Dibaby44 you are absolutely correct about needing the rest and healing time. Thank you for your continued support through this journey. It has truly helped me and I do listen to the advice of other bandsters. @@JustWatchMe thank you as well for your support. Each new day will get easier. They used glue to keep the incisions closed... did you guys get stitches or glue? I am eating a liquid diet; baby food, jello, flan, soup, broth, liquid meals, applesauce, yogurt, pudding, popsicles. I hope to try oatmeal and eggs by the bed of the week but will introduce one food at a time. The day the band was removed I was only able to drink room temp broth. Jello bothered me going down so I stuck to broth, water and tea only. What did everyone else's diet consist of during week one of removal?
  4. @@newstart38 That's good ????????????????yeah I'm curious what diet they will have me on I'm even thinking of joining the gym too. Yogurt is good and even the egg whites with toast

    Food stages?!?

We don't have an only liquid stage, it's straight on to liquids and puree so a protein shake and yogurt, apple sauce, no lump soup etc for the first 3 weeks, then on to for a few weeks mushy/soft foods like mash potato etc then trying out normal but not tough things like steak etc foods as stomach tolerates.

    Type 2 diabetes

I am on 2 tablets a day Metformin 500mg. I eat less than 700 cal per day on pre op. I use the fitness pal. On a full liquid diet with 2 unjury or Jay Robb shakes per day with 4oz skim milk and a scoop of ice & add pack of splenda. Limit to 1 serving of creamy chicken soup 1/2 a can per day and have sugar free pudding and jello and light yogurt yoplait. It is tough but thats what I have to do. I want to be rid of diabetes and sleep apnea / cpap. I keep thinking just 7 more days and I am looking forward to puree 2 weeks post op. Good luck
  7. I also had my surgery July 16. I was on Clear Liquids for a week, but was unable to drink any of the Protein drinks because I'm pretty sure it caused dumping syndrome for me, even in small amounts. Instead, I drank plain greek yogurt mixed with Water, about 2 Tbsp at a time for a week. I've just started eating 2-3 Tbsp of cottage cheese or watered down refried Beans, 3 times a day. I tried scrambled eggs a couple days ago (ate a quarter of one egg) and felt uncomfortably full. I also drink about 2/3 of a G2 and have a couple sugar free popsicles a day. I've gotten above 200 calories once in all these days. My biggest problem is getting tired easily, which is an obstacle because I also have two little kids and a husband who is gone for the summer. I'm allowing myself to take it as easy as I can, figuring everything non-essential can wait. I'm active normally because of my kids' activities, so I'm not burdening myself with trying to exercise while I'm eating so few calories.
  8. The painkillers, Tylenol #3, Tramadol, etc., are constipating. Dehydration will make you constipated, too. Milk of Magnesia and adding fiber helps. I have been using Fiber Smart, a clear fiber that is not wheat based, since I'm gluten intolerant. I also take probiotics and try to eat plain Chobani greek yogurt mixed with protein powder and add the fiber.

    What's for Breakfast?!

My most recent breakfasts have been this... On Sunday's I cook up a batch of veggie bacon or sausage patties (I'm vegetarian), and boil a pot of eggs. Then on weekdays for work I grab an egg and either the bacon or sausage patty, and take to work and eat at my desk. Before I was on this kick, I was eating a Greek yogurt with walnuts or almonds mixed in, or a Protein shake most mornings.
  10. Pacific organic Roasted red pepper and tomato soup and Imagine Portobello Mushroom soup. Both are in a box and they are great. Mix in some plain Fage Greek yogurt for extra Protein. Great stuff.
  11. I had my sleeve on July 16. its been relatively easy for me. I've been able to get in all my Protein as far as Protein shakes, and all the recommended Water since I left the Hospital. I've basically done just Protein drinks and water with the occasional blended/strained soup. the soups that I have tried cream of chicken and mushroom soup was pretty good. cream of mushroom wasn't very tasty. I also tried Campbell's French onion soup blended and strained. about a half cup of soup, maybe a little more fills me up. Thursday I had my 2 week post op visit and was given the OK to do pureed foods. They have been a little tougher. Refried Beans work pretty good, cottage cheese, Yogurt all work well....I can eat about 4-5 ounces. but I made some chicken salad puree and that was hard to get down. I'm only doing pureed 1 meal a day. still doing shakes and water mostly.
  12. Hi everyone! I was a July 16 revision, (band to sleeve). I was curious about a couple of things. 1. About how many calories/protien is everyone getting in? Being 17 days out, I have a huge struggle with getting in fluids and protien in. I am supposed to be on just liquid protien and creamy Soups still for another week, and I basically have given up on trying because the thought of another protien drink is nauseating. I called and asked if I can branch into Greek yogurt and got that blessing. But I am currently getting in maybe 300-400 calories a day if I am lucky. Maybe 20-30 grams of protien. 2. At 17 days post op, what stage of diet were you on? Any good recipes if yoj are post liquids? I am still on liquids, but I would kill to have a soft cooked egg. Or something more than a cream Soup. I am not asking for a burger, I am totally down with a healthy choice. I just can't take another shake. (I sound pathetic I know, lol) 3. Has anyone had sharp pains on their sides or an aching pain? My recovery was not as traditional. I have two small kids and went back to work after day 4. My husband has tried to help, but he works about 70 hours a week, so I have been doing my best to manage life with recovery while tending to all my duties. 4. How much can you take in in a sitting? I can do 1/2 cup and then I am done. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Congratulations to all of us on this excited journey!

    What Are Your Must-Have Foods?

I cannot live without my Dannon Light & Fit Greek Yogurt. My strong preference is for vanilla flavor with Bear Naked high-Protein / gluten free granola, raspberries, and blueberries. But just about any flavor will do, and I never pass a full day without one. I just came back from 2 weeks of overseas travel for business, and the days I couldn't find Greek yogurt were very bleak indeed. I also *have* to have Crystal Light lemonade. On this same trip, brought four boxes of single-serving lemonades. I ran out the day before I was scheduled to come home and was all "welp, time to go!". That last day was rough. Other common items in my pantry include Quest protein chips (especially the cheese flavor), and Quest Protein Bars only for emergencies. My freezer always has Sea Cuisine tortilla-crusted tilapia and raw chicken breasts to make into chicken salad as needed.

    Unhappy Camper

If it makes you feel less jealous, I am two years out and my sleeve makes me barf roughly once or twice a day, lol. There are some foods that I feel like I can eat much more than I should be eating and carbs would be one of them. My stomach doesn't like gravy or potatoes, but it loves crackers- I can eat a whole box of crackers in a few hours if I'm not paying attention. It's possible you may have just found one of your slider foods early in the process. As someone else said, focus on getting the Protein in first. Once you are back on solid food, this means eating the full serving of chicken, then a vegetable, and thennnn the potatoes. For me, dense Proteins make me feel instantly full and a bite too much or a bite of something my stomach decides it doesn't like, and I am barfing it all right back up. For now, try Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and thicker Protein shakes (you can blend stuff in a blender like...almond milk, Protein powder, frozen Greek yogurt, and PB2 to give you a thicker consistency, plus it tastes better). Also, why not cover your bases and make sure your stomach is actually gone? I sincerely doubt that the procedure was not done fully or correctly, but visual confirmation is always nice. Ask for a swallow study...you basically swallow this disgusting cup of goop and they watch it make its way all the way down your stomach to your intestine. You can actually see that your stomach is gone (I very vaguely remember this, I was blitzed out of my mind for my swallow study) and visually seeing that you no longer have a normal stomach might help you as well.
  16. @@kathy2208 for breakfast and lunch my meals have to be 3 out of the 5 food groups and no carbs after lunch or for dinner. Ex I can have yogurt, eggs, and toast but it has to be whole wheat bread, and my snack has to be something healthy but I barely have a snack. Dinner I can only have meat and vegetables. . No sodas plenty of water but I use the crystal light packets for the water. . Thank you for the encouragement. @@gerbils8118 I am using my fitness pal app and I just picked up a fitbit. I synced both of tgem together. .

Brown: I am feeling pretty good. When I take my walks I get more winded than usual but otherwise am ok. The tummy tenderness is getting better, too. My doc wants me to get in 64 oz of Fluid....I haven't reached that goal, I've been around 50-58 oz. So close. food I get down easily, been having Protein shakes I make, tomato Soup w milk, and greek yogurt w stevia and cinnamon. For Snacks it's the sugar free popsicles...my favorite! Oh, and I poo'd!!

    Protein protein protien

I don't like the pre-mixed Protein shakes. If you have time to use a blender you can make something way better tasting and healthier. For example, I use either almond milk or the Ensure protein as the base, then throw in a greek yogurt that I have frozen in my freezer, a serving of PB2, and a half scoop of a Protein powder I like...it works out to almost 40g of protein for about 350-400 calories (if I use the Ensure instead of the almond milk). I just never really liked any of the protein shakes that came pre-made.
  19. Im kinda scared. I havent eaten in 5 days or i get sick. Even on yogurt. I have called the doc and tomorrow Im having an EGD i think its called. Its where they scope you and open up your stomach with a balloon. I guess i have a stoma stenosis. I am 5 weeks out. I am just scared it is going to hurt. Anyone else have this done? Apparently i will be in twilight sleep for it. I wish they would just knock me out. I mean im losing a pound or two a day...but this is crazy. 49 pounds down.
  20. Don't take the pain killers but keep taking the softeners. And start eating like yogurts and soups/broth or proteins shakes

    Lap-Band Lawsuit

It Is my first day home since band removal (slept in my own bed last night after four days in the hospital). I feel like I got beat up and my entire body hurts, joints and all. I still feel the "phantom lap band" pains and they used surgical glue to close the 5 incisions. I was sleeping in recovery unit after surgery for about 4 hours. Full body pain and severe stomach, neck, back and throat pain (from tube during surgery). Clear liquid diets for now and liquid hydrocodone for pain. I also got xanax to help me fall asleep. My diet consists of broth, creamed soups, Jello, ice cream, pudding, yogurt, Sorbet, flan, broth, and water. Going to eat this diet for the next week or so and then slowly introduce new foods like oatmeal and eggs. I will keep everyone updated as time goes on. I feel like crap today but did mange to sleep through the night on my back. I woke up one time during the night to use bathroom and take my medication dose (every 6 hours). My husband has been absolutely AMAZING helping me through this and running errands for me. I could not have done this without him. I do suggest having some help when coming home from hospital. Especially when it comes to picking up my meds from pharmacy (hard to find liquid narcotics) and running errands. I am not allowed to drive so he has really stepped up and he never left my side. Hopefully I will improve over the next few days. I do not think I will be going to work tomorrow especially because I cannot drive. I will take it one day at a time. My husband may drive me to work if I am feeling up to it, and I will possibly do part-time days this week if anything. I will keep everyone ppsted as time moves on. I also tried my best to keep my band once removed, but the state I live in sends it to pathology and cannot give back to the patient by law... what a bummer!!!

    What Are Your Must-Have Foods?

I wish I was one who loves Greek yogurt. It just seems so tart to me. I'm hoping my tastes will change post-surgery and that I will then love it!

    Fluids

I can stomach all fluids. I'm eating scrambled eggs & yogurt, etc. And for the most part I can handle it. I just feel like there is not enough hours in my day for fluids...small slow sips...if I drink too much or too fast I get horrible heartburn especially from plain water. I guess I just have to keep sipping lol
  24. You are welcome! And 4 1/2 hours? That's rough! Glad it finally ended. My bet is it was the bacon. Maybe it was too chewy? I'm too scared to try it yet. especially now! One tip for you - try to stick with liquids / yogurt for 24 hours after an episode like that. And then you may need to go to pureed for 24 hours. Dr's office told me things get really swollen / irritated after an episode like this and trying to eat something to un-soft (sorry not sure what else to call it ) could cause the problem again. Works for me anyway.

Amylynns - Greek yogurt! Berries! Put in blender with Almond milk and protein powder! Yummy! And, frozen berries work well! They act as ice cubes to keep drink cold.
