  1. It really amazes me on how the band/fills effects everyone differently. I felt some restriction with just my band. Then my doc gave me .5CC in a 10CC band -- and i had a little more restriction. Last week, i got another .5cc for a total of 1cc, and I can hardly eat anything. I am eating small amounts, very very slowly. But I couldn't imagine having another fill anytime soon. Not that I am complaining -------------- don't get me wrong. It just amazes me. I remember thinking during my 1st fill "What is .5cc going to do for me when there are some getting 5cc at a time?" -- But everyone is just so different. Lilly73 -- PB is productive burp and NSV is Non scale victory. I had one of those the other night. I went to Cheddars with my friends and they were already sitting in a booth. I normally try to do a table -- but I was so happy to fit comfortably in the booth -- with room to spare. I can't wait for November -- i am flying to Vegas. I am sure this time, i will just be like everyone else -- i will walk onto the plane, go to my seat, and buckle up. WITHOUT asking for a seatbelt extension. WHOOHOOO -- i haven't done that for years. And I can't wait to sit in the seats at whatever show i go to see and not have to squeeze in and out of them. :clap2::clap2:
  2. Forgive me but what is PB and NSV???? I am a newbie....lol.

Getting Banded in Calgary - Sept. 25

LOL, in that case I wish I lived in Calgary!!! Congrats on making the decision to get the band! My advice is to not expect too much of yourself in the way of weight loss. Don't expect to lose a lot in the first month... and when you plateau (I am there right now...) don't get discouraged. Do not to weight yourself more than once a week. I lost weight relatively quickly and, of course, was very happy about it. I was proud of myself and started weighing myself twice a week. Soon I was obsessing about how much I was losing and started weighing myself every day or two... don't do that!! Be proud of yourself regardless of how much or how little weight you lose. If you "cheat" don't beat yourself up about it... we all do it once in a while!! Don't worry about it and get back to the healthy eating afterward. Don't feel guilty about it. Enjoy every NSV (non-scale victory), even the small, seemingly insignificant ones. I love the fact that I can walk between 2 cars and not brush against either mirror any more! That's all I can think of at 4 am! Good luck on your banding tomorrow... let us know how it goes!!

    June 2007 Bandsters

I love these boards :0) I'm in school on top of working full-time so some weeks or days are much harder than others to find the time to chat. NSV - today I did my first exercising since getting banded. Horrible, I know. I was so scared of hurting my band - I have yet to do a situp just in case. I went biking with my DH for 45 minutes. It felt great!! Losing 25+ pounds has made a huge difference! I hope everyone has had a great weekend!!

I AM HERE !!!! It has been slow, but life gets busy for all of us at different times! insub GREAT NSV!! I know it must have been a comfort to sit in the plane this time. Just think, this is the beginning! Now you are going to make it even smaller next time! dawng I never heard about the insurance making you wait. I would ask they give you a big fill! If you have a 5cc band, I would ask for 3cc and if you have a 10cc band, 5-6cc. Or like Stef said if you have to wait long, a 1 or 2cc will be nothing! I am sorry you are struggling. I had to wait due to the NP schedule 7 weeks, which was frustrating to me, so I know you are dealing with a lot of stress over it. Hang in there. You are almost there. suzzzie I plan to make your meatballs tonight for dinner. I will let you know how it goes!
  6. I could feel it for the first few weeks but now, not at all except maybe when it's protesting because I ate too much. I can feel the port sometimes when I lift or bend. I just got back from my (plane) trip and MY SEAT BELT DID UP. I rushed on to the plane and looked down at it thinking, "Ok seat-belt, you don't like me and I don't like you but let's just do this thing." I adjusted it as long as it could get, sat my wide load down and 'click'. It clicked in. There was no room to spare length-wise but it wasn't pinching either and I left it on the entire trip. I didn't even need to lift the armrest, which was another relief. I spent the rest of the flight grinning but didn't want to blow my euphoria by trying the tray table, so lived in blissful ignorance. Huge NSV for me. I was so worried about this. I stand by my choice of aisle.

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Good morning, Violets.. Another beautiful fall day here in Northern Michigan. We had a storm last night.. lots of wind and rain and that pushed out all the warm air. DH and DS are going golfing today and I'll have Ethan for a little while. Before that, I'm going to try and weed through the guest room and get all the clothes out that don't fit me anymore. I can't even begin to tell you how many clothes I had accumulated. It's been a real eye opener! I found some yesterday that fit me now and they still had price tags on them and were from years ago. wooo hooooo NSV!! Laura...hope you're feeling better today. At least it's over and done with and you've made it across that bump in the journey and are ready to go full speed ahead again. (no, I was NOT a driver's ed teacher). Terry.... CONGRATS on the 30#!!:clap2::clap2: Isn't it great to hear about all the weight we're losing?? We're ALL doing a fantastic job and will continue to do so til we all congratulate each other on getting to goal!! (from my lips to God's ear)!! I just finished my cottage cheese and blueberries.. man those things are expensive this time of year!!! I'm off to do laundry and get the guest room shoveled out. Everyone have a great day and remember.. Patience, Trust and WWJD??!!!

I see I'm the late night contributor once again.....lol That is ok, it seems it's the only time I have to get on the computer without interruptions! I appreciate reading about the different experiences with having a fill.....at first I felt nothing, several days later I start to feel a little restriction, but not enough to cause me to pb or slime, I'm confused on how this delayed tightening works? Any one have any explanation? I'd appreciate it! Chim - Thanks, any small NSV gives me a good feeling. Good luck with your weigh in and fill next week!! Lindaa - Glad your ring was found!! I'll be glad to get my 10 year anniversary band in a whole new smaller size (a year and 1/2 to go...) distant0098 - that sounds a little unhealthy to me. I was told that with a fill I should still be able to eat solids as long as I chewed it well and took small bites...I'd check with your doctor about it!! Lynette - Congrats on getting rid of 30lbs. for good!! You are so close to being under 200 I'm jealous.....and look forward to the day when I can share that wonderful news also.....good for you!! Citygirlnks - This is as good a place to vent and whine! I'm a 47 year old student who is heavy, so I can relate in some ways to your feelings. It's difficult to not be chosen for what you bring to the table, but by how you look, it's just not fair, but just keep thinking what you will be like a year from now..........good luck!! I return to the University of Washington this coming week to start my final year....yipeeeee......I'm looking forward to getting back into the work world and having the money to spend on a new wardrobe!!! lol

    My NSV!!! So excited

I got up this morning, realized I am close to the weight I was when I got married 5+ years ago. I had gained almost 50 pounds before being banded. So.........I dug to the back of the closet, pulled out my wedding dress, put it on and ZIPPED IT UP! Then proceeded to call anyone who would listen and tell them. I am so excited. I am only 2 lbs from being 1/2 way to goal! YIPPEE:whoo::clap2:

Pamela - that is too funny I had another NSV today, I was at the grocery store with my aunt and a woman about my moms age said you me, you look like such a young girl, I turned, smiled and asked if that was a good thing or a bad thing, she said very good, I looked very young and she loved my top . Man that coming from some stranger
  14. Hey V's~ Yes, your tax dollars at work again...lol, the kids are writing a folktale. Micelle~ I know the many faces of fatness too. Been there honey, sometimes I still am. Thanks for sharing, it helps knowing I am not alone in this. Terri~ OMG, my stomach started growling when I read you soup post. I am so gonna make that, already printed it out. Thanks for sharing. The bracelet fit, but was snug, very snug, so yes to whatever your professional opinion is on the extension. Thanks again, your the best! Hey, how is the not smoking thing going? I don't know how you did it in Vegas. The whole place stinks like a ciggy to me, lol. I hope your doing ok, and remember if you falter...the next day get up and do it again. xoxoxo Sara~ I was thinking about you the other day. I am glad to hear your doing well, and that Dave seems to be on the mend. We miss you around here. NSV: 2 people I work w/ came up to me today to say how great I look. Funny thing is I am having a fat day w/ a bad headache. Oh well, I'll take it. And a student said to me, "Is it me, or are you getting sexier!" I know I know, inappropriate, but hey, I'll take that too! xoxox

YOU GO GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tame those wooly mammoths! Good morning everyone! TracyK you are not alone! That is so cool to have a consult with that ps on BM........ hey maybe you can get a cut rate if you agree to go on the show! Pam: Married Life feels just like the Living in sin life.... when it feels different is when someone refers to him as my husband. Kat: Glad you dad came through the surgery ok..... my prayer for you is for your life to stay calm for a bit Jennifur: You are such a good neice! I have a meeting today with a big whig.. my boss wants me to attend so I can see what goes on at these annual meetings... it is me playing the game for when he retires......... he really wants me to get his job when he leaves... the problem is that he has a Masters degree and I don't.... the nuns are VERY educationaly snobbish as many of them are phd's. Most of them have no idea what I actually do, since I deal with the lay employees.................. so anyway...... today's NSV is that I'm wearing one of the new white blouse I bought yesterday.... (Size 16, black jacket size 16, and black dress slacks, size 14), but they are cut loosely and they have some give... BUT last week I could not get them zipped. My hair is up and I actually have matching earrings............ and new shoes that I bought last year but have never worn................ so I AM DRESSED TO THE NINES........ very professional............ Now that I am fitting into some of my old clothes it feels very good to dress up......... hell it feels good to give a crap again.... I am only now realizing how deep of a pit that I was in......... I know I've said it before.. but my beginning pic is so very painful for me to look at over and over again day after day on my sig.......... I don't even recognize the miserable woman in it........... to me, I've always looked like my most recent pic.... heavy but happy, sexy in size 16's........ I can not describe how much power my little band has given me over food. It is very freeing................... OK so enough with deep introspection........... lets talk about seeing our coochies! :car:

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Michelle congrats on the scale moving - I'm going to have the caterpillars removed today too. LOL. Enjoy your day of you, you deserve it! Mine is not but I have been so sick, even if I'm not really eating, I am not really drinking either. I'm bouncing between 212 & 214 but... I did another set of measurements today because even though my scale has not really moved in a few weeks, or so it seems, everyone has been telling me how great I look. So I am down another 2 inches. I'lll take that 51 inches lost forever! My NSV for today, my jeans that i very comfortably now fit into got put in the dryer on High heat - they still fit and went on nicely. I have never put my clothes in the dryer, let alone jeans and on High heat! YIKES. And one of my favorite new shirts I actually tied the back on my own today and it is getting big on me. So I am dressed and ready to go - busy day today

    Am I too "tight" ? .... 2nd fill yesterday

Peaches, way to go on the NSV.
  19. Keep eating the SOFT food, making sure that you get all your Protein in. You;ll be a bit looser with each passing day. It took me 7 days until I could comfortably eat solids. I tried Steak yest. I cut it into TINY pieces and chewed 30 times... it went down.. but was it worth the effort? Hummmm I don't know... I do very well with FISH and chicken Thighs. Today I tried Ceasar salad (small one) and Chick Quesadilla... it was delicious but I could only eat 1/4 of the Quesadilla.. My G.Frends that took me out for lunch were going "WOW you have really cut down in your eating habits!!!" .... I havn't told them about the LB, plus I didn't want to PB in front of them in a restaurant... so I was really careful with each mouthfull. BUT it was a NSV for me... to go out and Eat with REAL (LOL) people and be undetected as a BANDSTER.... They did notice my weight loss though :whoo:

    Two Months Post-Op Tomorrow

I can't believe I haven't updated my journal since one week post-op. I enjoy reading all the other journals, but have been lax in updating mine. Went back and got my list of things I wanted to do, so am updating it here: I hope to be able to do all these things when I lose some weight: 1) Ride my horse without worrying that I am breaking his back!! Too hot, haven't even tried. He's having fun in the pasture. 2) Have the energy to clean my house and shovel out all the stuff I gathered thru the years. I have more energy, and have started cleaning out some (namely clothes that are getting too big) but sad to say not real enthused about this yet!! 3) Stick my arm in that blood pressure thing at Walmart and not have it get stuck there!! And use a normal blood pressure cuff! Haven't tried it yet! 4) Walk somewhere without huffing and puffing and stopping to rest 20 times. Can walk 45 minutes on the treadmill and am finding daily walking a lot easier! 5) Get off all these pills I am taking - or at least most of them!! My blood pressure is pretty much normal now (with the pills), but it will probably be a while longer before I decrease them. My blood sugar has decreased but still a ways to go. Went off Metformin when I got the surgery. Going to the doctor tomorrow and will get blood tests for sugar, cholesterol, etc. 6) Quit getting my butt stuck in chairs/theatre seats, etc with arms. This has decreased dramatically, with just a 24 lb weight loss. 7) Have enough energy to play with grandkids, do some gardening, ride my bike. Stayed off the bike for the 6 weeks after surgery, still not gotten back on it yet. Maybe today if it's cool enough! 8) Not be the biggest person in the room. (Already accomplished this when I went to the bariatric clinic-how sad. Finally sat in a chair too big for me!! But I don't consider this a NSV) What a sick mentality I have that I rejoice that someone in the room is bigger than me - this isn't usually the case tho. 9) Do something besides read, crochet and watch soaps on tv all day long because I don't feel like doing much else. Still need to work on this. 10) I'm sure there are many more but I have gone brain-dead for now.

WELCOME BACK TERRY! Thanks everyone for the comments on my pics.......... The upside is that I will be A LOT thinner for our NEXT ceremony! That was my mom and my sis............ they were both excited to be able to be there.... My sis is disgusted by her pic she said she looks SOOOOOOOO fat! (she is at the heaviest she's ever been except for pregancy) but still......... 148lbs.. I'll TAKE IT! My mom has also had a lifelong battle with her weight............ up and down... just like me........ sadly, she won't even discuss the band with me.. says she doesn't want any more surgeries..... These are my two best friends....... I will be lost without them... both have already had bouts with cancer...... I love them so much. OH and I forgot...... for the ceremony I shoved my grandma's ring on my finger... it had gotten too small but NSV... I am wearing it right now........... yeah my fat fingers look like sausage, and my nails are peeling off... but I am wearing it! (kind of visible in my goofy pic above) I'm eating my WC oatmeal............... must drink water today Have a great day everyone!

    May 2007 Banders

Hey Everyone, Melissa - way to go on the size 16. YEA you are doing so great. Cindyluhu - Med PJs-- way to go with the NSV. Sue - thanks for your comments conserning the reflux. Doc appt on thursday. Will see what he has to say about it. I have been takeing notice the past few days, when does the heartburn start, what did I eat before etc. I have found that I get it most in the morning. After I take my allergy meds. I have been taking them on an empty stomach. Wonder if that is what is some of the cause? Will try in the morning taking it with food and see. Ragdoll - I can fully relate to you with the funk issue. I have been in this funny place lately. Even my DH has noticed. It is not that I am doing real bad, but I have not been doing real good either. What do they say "This too shall pass!" We have started down the road of a very long journey. It will not happen overnight, there will be pitfalls and downfalls, we will get side tracked. But, we have our band to keep us on this road to a better us. And, we have each other to see us along this journey. Hang in there! Oh, I am having to sweep up hair also. It has slowed down a little, also noticed while I was blow drying my hair yesterday, little new hair growing out. Take Care All Laura
