    Oh my im freaking ouy

I was incredibly freaked out in the days leading up to my surgery. And the day of the surgery, I was a wreck. (My surgeon showing up 3 hours late for work, unapologetically, didn't help anything, but I digress...) The entire thing was SO much easier than I thought it would be. Yes, the first few days post-op sucked, but I rebounded quickly. The surgery itself was super easy. Once it was over, I wondered why I let myself get freaked out so much. It will be just fine. Try to relax and focus on what you need to do to prepare for the surgery and a successful post-op life. Good luck!

You'll do great. I understand the panic attacks. I have a 2 week pre-op diet I started last Thursday. 12 more days to go for me. Let us know how you're doing. If you see me panicking on Wednesday the 8th please remind me what I said. Lol Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-T337A using the BariatricPal App

    5 Day Pouch Test Now?

I have never done the pouch test but know that some people on here have and could give you more insight. My suggestion? Go back to basics. Have you talked to your NUT about your challenges and your goals? Are you tracking your food, Are you drinking at least 64 oz of Fluid a day? Are you not drinking with your meals? Are you avoiding carbonation? What is your Protein target? Are you tracking that target every day? Are you avoiding added sugars (especially high fructose corn syrup), starches, and fried foods? Are you taking your Vitamins and supplements as instructed? Are you exercising? Whether or not you do the 5 day pouch test, it seems to me that it isn't too late to get back on track. It may be difficult and more of a mental than physical challenge, but you can do it. I also highly recommend that you talk with a therapist and attend support group meetings. You may also want to consider attending sone OA meetings (OA.org). Keep us posted on how you are doing. Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall

    Weight loss twin

I'm 5' 3.5" sleeved June 6th, 2013 SW: 230 CW: 194 I'm currently working out at least 5 days a week. 30 mins of treadmill, minimum speed 3.5 (w/ intermittent sprints) or 30 mins of elliptical & 30 minutes of strength training (weight lifting). I eat approx 800 calories & 70 grams of Protein a day. I wish I would lose faster but I know I'm building muscle as well. I believe average weight loss after your first month or two is 6-10lbs a month. It drives me bonkers when I see someone post that they've lost 100 lbs in 6 mos.

    april 22nd sleevers

They told me try to follow the rule of 60:60. 60g of protein 60oz of fluids. They told me it could take a couple weeks to get to that but that is the goal. I am on full liquids for 1-2 weeks depending on how i tolerate them. I also don't start my vitamins and actigall until my post op check on Tuesday. I am taking my pepcid cause it's a small pill and b12 because it is sublingual.
  6. I just started using frutis fall fight shampoo and conditioner. So far less strands in my comb. I sure hope this works. It has biotin in it and the bariatric vitamins have 150 per cent of biotin everyday. The vitamins were not working but this shampoo seems to be. Will let everyone know after a few weeks.
  7. Ive done my research, Ive spoken to my drs and as of now the pros out weigh the cons but i cant help but feel some reservations about the surgery... is it odd that im nervous or is it norma

    New To Lap Band Surgery

what is it you need help with? I was banded on the 13th of Sept and for about the first 2 1/2 weeks I was hungry most all of the time. I am eating soft foods now and am not so hungry all the time like I used to be, it's getting easier..head hunger is still there though but it's getting better too. hang in there, stick to your fluids it won't last forever you'll be able to move on to the next stage soon and then you'll get sick of that but eventually you will get back to regular food. You might try popcicles..they seem to satisfy me a little here and there. I hope I helped...be careful with the bread.

Scared to death about excess skin!

Excess skin is also one of my biggest worries also, I spoke with a trainer who gave me alittle tip. He told me to rub my big problem areas twice a day with "Preparation H" and when I go walking wrap myself with plastic wrap it has really done wonders. I have all my friends wrapping there selfs up. But my double chin is down to one and my thighs and arms are tighten up. So it is helping me, maybe while you are in the loosing stages you can try this or some time of firming cream just to get a little help. Well I have shared my beauty secert to for the day. Good luck (smile) Surgery Weight-218 (3-30-09) Current Weight -194 Weight Goal-140:wub:

  11. I was banded on 2009 and did great off rip i went. From 299 to 235 then i made a big move to Alabama and gained about 20lbs. Got pregnant with my first babie and gained another 10lbs. Pregnant again six months later and gained every drop of my weight back. I moved back to Detroit and have finally gotten a fill. 4cc but im still not losing like i did when first banded. Help please! Cuz i think the only way is if i do clear liquids for a full week.

    Salty Foods

I have only been banded for two weeks and have notice the scale isn't moving any more. Actually it went up a pound or two. When I spoke to the surgeon he said Im probably retaining water. When I looked at some of the stuff I was having salt was the issues.

    Sushi?

I would definitely say no, not at this point however I want to point out that week 3 is not always pureed foods. Every surgeon is different. I started soft foods on day 3-14 which includes things like yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna, eggs and even ground turkey as long as it's chewed very well. I am on day 10 post op and doing very well with all of these items. Day 14 I get to move into regular textured foods in 2-3 ounce portions and I'm so happy to have more options. Again, everyone is on a different plan, but I think the biggest thing is don't push yourself into anything that could cause you harm or discomfort. It's not worth it. Patience will pay off in the end.
  14. I will be 3 months out on July 4th. So far I have lost 45 pounds but it takes a lot to lose...in my opinion. I must admit that I don't get in all my water most days. I am so forgetful when it comes to my vitamins but I am setting an alarm to start taking them better. I am stalking like 2 weeks at a time. Will I ever get back to losing rapidly? I want like 15-20 pounds a month...maybe I am not being realistic?

    Weightloss...

After surgery, individuals loose weight at different rates. The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily protein, fluid and vitamin requirements. Food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight. So adhere to the program guidelines. Since you are at 3 months, there is one thing you might try if you haven't already. Your daily protein requirement is met by a combination of the amount of protein you obtain from food combined with the amount of protein from protein supplements (protein shakes, protein bars). Right after gastric bypass surgery, the volume of food you consume is minuscule (2 ounces) per meal. But as you get further along, the meal volume increases. Therefore you have a very important option available to you. As a result, you can begin to reduce your reliance on protein shakes. I went from 3 a day, down to 2, down to 1 and eventually none when I reached 1 cup per meal at a year and a half post-op. This is important because protein shakes contain calories. If you can reduce your caloric intake, then you can end a stall. At least that was the approach that I used and it worked for me.
  16. I had an unsettling situation occur last week when I was at a work related conference. I was with about 6 other ladies when they started being disrespectful about the weight of another attendee. I was stunned! I immediately thought 'how could they say this stuff in front of me?' I just looked looked around at them in shock. Then it dawned on me; they think I'm one of them! They didn't know that 9 months ago I was her size. I felt like a closeted fat person. A fraud. I came to her defense but they weren't having it. That fat girl just needs to diet and exercise, etc. Everything I've heard my entire life. This was the first time I've ever been in this type of situation. Hopefully I can handle myself better in the future. I feel like I have to stand up for my sisters! Any suggestions on how to handle these types of situations?

    Timeline- New here

Here in Adelaide, South Australia it only took me about 3 months total from phoning and getting an initial consult date 2 months later, then surgery 3 weeks later (with insurance at a private hospital). US insurance requirements tend to be much more detailed and vary between providers.

    Timeline- New here

Just worked with my Insurance folks as you all suggested. I'll have to meet with a phone counselor 5 times in the next 10 weeks. Plus a psychologist and nutritionist. She said it'll be about a 3-4 month process. So, I'm thinking late August to Late September.

    *Psych Evaluation Tips?

Just be honest. They're not trying to trick you, they just want to make sure that you'll be able to handle a life-altering surgery. During my psych consult I had to do 2 or 3 (can't remember) questionnaires. No difficult questions, but a lot of strange questions—I think some were to just determine if you were reading all of the questions. During my conversation with the psychologist, he asked about my life: family history, relationships with family and significant other, why I wanted the surgery, if I had a history of ED. He also asked me questions about VSG. I had to describe what the surgery was for and physically what would happen because of the surgery (removal of 80% of stomach). I specifically remember that he asked me if it was reversible. Our conversation was only 20 minutes or so and he told me after that he didn't see any issues with me getting the surgery.

    Feeling a lot

The feelings you're having are pretty normal at the stage you're at. I think the depression (to an extent), the fatigue, the "remorse" are nothing more than your body reacting to the fact that it's not getting what it's used to in terms of foods (good or bad) at this very moment. I noticed a very large change in attitude at about the end of the week 2 mark and it's gotten better and better every week since. Embrace the positives. Look at what you've accomplished so far. Grasp onto that, try new things. Some of the foods you thought you didn't like before you may now, and vice versa. It's amazing how our tastes change after the surgery. I couldn't eat anything overly sweet, and things that didn't taste too sweet or too salty to me before surgery were amplified by what seemed to be 100% after surgery. Best thing for me, honestly. If you told me even a week before surgery that there would be days I would actually be craving a salad, or a few slices of a tomato, I would have probably told you that you were crazy. I've always liked those things, but never craved them. Now, the healthier I eat, the more I crave healthier foods. You can succeed and looking at your progress, I'd say you already are. Stick with it...it really does get better!!! Best of luck!

    Long term success

I’m 3.5 years out. Started at 235 lbs. I’m a 5’2” 50 yr old female. I stayed “on plan” (note: MY plan NOT my NUT’s) which was low cal (<800 cals), ultra-low carb (< 20g Net Carbs) throughout weight-loss phase. I got to goal (127 lbs) around 7 months post-op and have stayed below goal ever since...almost 3 years. This morning i clocked in at 118.7 lbs I no longer eat to any “plan” other than to try to stay under 2000 cals a day. I am about 90% successful sticking to this. I eat basically anything just not at pre-op levels…think like 1 to 1.5 cups at a time. And this includes desserts, low-nutritional snacks, fried foods, alcohol and lotsa butter, lol. I also eat my fair share of salads, so it’s all good. Bread, rice, pasta and potatoes are not regular foods for me, but only because these things sit heavily in my stomach and gets me super full super fast. Plus, I just don’t really crave them all that much. you will find out what foods will work within your lifestyle as you progress. Good Luck! ❤️ P.S. I ate pork and red meat (and all things carnivore) now, and even during weight loss phase…they never went off the table for me.

    Gas Pain

LOL! Love that, too! Hysterical! I'm a little over 2 weeks post-op and my stomach, as little as it is, is louder than ever! I wake up to it growling like I'm starving to death, which I'm not! I quickly take my antacid pill and start sucking down a Premier shake-very impatient tummy!! Is this forever or just while on such low calories (still on full liquids until Nov. 1)? I hope once I'm eating real food again instead of shakes, broth/soup and jello/pudding/yogurt, my hungry-hungry (baby!) hippo tummy will simmer down!! 

But I'm sure I'll get use to that also!! I drank right at the 30 min mark lol!! It's so weird how different doctors do so many different things for the same surgery!!! Some people just start soft at 6 weeks I see on here
