So happy to see long lost posters coming on to chat! Welcome back Q/C!! All are welcome!! Some of us stragglers are still here... trying our best. I’m up 5 lbs. down 3lbs Or my rhythm goes well.....and candy and cocktails come my way so: . Back to shakes and dr appts and long walks. And hope.... Ah Cocktails and dinner out set me back again Oh well. It is 5-10 lbs... not 90!!!

    December Bypass Twin?

I'm in Michigan. I start Liquid diet one week prior to surgery so the 27th....I have my few hour long pre-op class on the 26th. Thanksgiving will be my last big meal! Excited for 2019......a life-changing year!!!
  3. Get some 10 lb dumbbells. Start with standing overhead presses and goblet squats.. 3 sets each 6-8 reps. 2-3 times a week, when it gets easier add another set. Weight training is crucial to add and maintain muscle mass.
  4. Just wanted to update. This morning I woke up and just filled up a giant Slurpee cup from the tap with hot water. It's been an hour and I've had 39 ounces!! I had my first meal and it was filling for once! You seriously never appreciate the power of what water can do when you're drinking 100 oz a day... until you suddenly drop to... 10 a day. Feeling much better already. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app

    July Gastric Bypass?

Yeah, this is my second go round after my lap band that I had for 10 years failed on me. I definitely think in hindsight that slow loss is best because my skin never looked crazy and again it doesn't this time either. It's pulling back in very nicely. I think water is key as well...I have to remind myself daily to load up on water in the morning before I eat anything so it has enough room to fit in. I have tried fasting until noon as well and only drinking water and that seems to kick start weight loss
  6. Not meaning to be condescending. Just stating a fact. And I'm sorry, I know EVERYONE has their own path...and I fully support that. But I do disagree with leading other newbies astray and into thinking that a "daily treat" is a good habit to cultivate. At which point you disagree which is fine, but you basically said "You know what's best." And that's true. You know for YOU whats best. But people rationalize their sh*t all the livelong day. We do. It's what got us to Morbidly Obese and got us a lifetime invitation to the Obesity Ball. Daily "treats". I will make you a bet. I bet you $10 you can't LIMIT yourself to 1 mini Reese's PB cups per day. I bet you that it will be a gateway at some point for you to go off the rails. And sadly, I will wonder if you ever managed to make it to goal. Cuz I want you to. I want EVERYBODY to. Or I wouldn't waste my time posting here to try to help newbies stay on track and get their heads in the game.

    July Gastric Bypass?

I thought I'd share some of my own "fun facts": Weight lost after surgery (7/25): 67# Inches lost since surgery (abs): 8.25 Inches lost since surgery (waist): 7.5 Inches lost since surgery (neck): 2 Lost since 2-day pre-op clear liquid diet: 75# Lost since April: 89# And my favorite stat is total weight lost since my highest weight (around 10/2015): 102#
  8. Unfortunately there is no exercise, cream, or lotion that will tighten loose skin. No matter how much a marketing department claims otherwise, it just isn't possible. The only thing that would come close would be a vasoconstrictor that temporarily tightens tissue (Preperation H). The only thing that weight training can do is enlarge muscles to back fill the loss of fat. And even then, it's unlikely most of us can build that much mass. Your best bet to enlarge muscle is to do comfortable weights at a higher rep. When I say comfortable, I don't mean 5 - 10lb curls either, I mean a weight that you can finish 8-10 reps with. It still needs to be work. If strength is your goal, it is the heaviest weight you can handle safely for about 5 reps for 3 sets after warm up sets. Compound lifts like barbell squats and overhead press are ideal. If size is your goal, total volume is what you want and targeted lifts make sense. (Arm day, chest day...) Either route you take, quality protein is paramount. And that means whey concentrate or isolate. Go with your palate because the only supplement worth buying is the one you will use. Just make sure it is whey. Not casein, not pea, not soy... good old fashion whey. And not that genepro crap.
  9. I just asked if you have a treat. I see many here who do and have lost loads of weight, including over 100+. We are not talking about the same thing. A small treat is not the same as cheating. A small treat is just that, a Resees PB cup, 1 mini, is 44 calories. I probably won't have one daily, and I do not intend on making bad choices. But if I did have 1 44 calorie RP cup, it will not be a bad choice, and it will not be the doom of me. I will never be perfect, but I will perfectly try. and really I think you and others may be over-thinking this for me. Cheating is eating 5, or 10 RPCups, or a whole bag, like I used to. This was supposed to be a fun thread, not a chew out ::no pun intended.::: but thanks.

Kettlebells and other ways to tone a bit

It's weird, I crush my right radius and scalphoid about 10 years ago and I can lift weights but putting weight on it, I can feel the bones crunching together. My Dr said resistant bands are good, but weights helps tones better and then she explained it in a very understanding at the time way.
  11. I have teenage boys (18 and 15) and I agree - they would live in filth if I let them. They don’t care. What they DO care about is me! They were SOOO helpful when I had my surgery (10/10/18). My older son did most of the cleaning and my younger son cooked for the 2 of them. I had stocked up on frozen pizza, chicken nuggets, etc. Fortunately they are both super skinny so I didn’t have to worry about a couple of weeks of bad eating for them. I also had bought paper plates and plastic cups and cutlery. Almost no dishes! As for time out of work it definitely depends on the person. I could have gone back after a week - but I had taken 4 weeks off so I didn’t go back until yesterday. I don’t knit but I think I could have done that easily after a week. I never had much abdominal pain at all. Good luck!!

Quick question for the masses. My surgery was on ,10/29 and for the most part things are going ok. But of my five incisions, four look great and have no pain whatsoever. My concern is my fifth incision. It's the larger one on my lower right side used for the liver retractor device. It still hurts...a lot. Sharp pains when sitting or standing and especially when walking. My surgeon looked at it Wednesday and said it is fine because the bruising is almost gone, no swelling, no seepage, no redness and it's not warm to the touch. It's just VERY tender. I wouldn't be so concerned if I was still having any sort of pain or discomfort with the other incisions but because this is the only pain I am experiencing and it doesn't seem to be improving I am concerned.

    Sparta Whey Protein

Picked up the Cinna Crunch and it's freaking good! 110 calories, 25 grams of protein, zero sugar per scoop. But damn is it sweet! I had to up the milk content to 10-12 oz per scoop to settle down the sweetness. But, it's really tasty and hasn't caused me any discomfort yet (even with the protein concentrate being used) Looking forwards to trying their other flavors!
  14. Not under 10k, but mine was $13k out of pocket at center for weight loss success in Virginia inital consult to operation room was about 10 day due to meetings and my work schedule.
  15. I’m about 10 months out and just starting to slow down, it’s been a few weeks that I haven’t lost but I also have not been perfect with my choices, I’m 130 pounds down

Hi KT1981! Welcome to the site. It’s a great site for support and if you have questions. I had my sleeve done on 10/16. I’m trying to only weigh myself once a week. Lots of people have said it’s very common to not lose anything in week three because you’re body is trying to figure out what on earth is happening! Best of luck to you!

Just wanted to say "hi" to everyone- I just discovered this site! I was sleeved on 10/17 and things seem to be going well, except I haven't lost anything in 10 days! I lost 15 pounds right off the bat (down 25 including pre-op diet) and now... nothing for 10 days. It's freaking me out even though I KNOW I'm still healing. Very glad to find this place of support and I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Keep with it! I had the same experience. I lost 13lbs in the first 10 days. Then I stalled for a week. Today the scale finally moved again. Your body is just freaking out and thinks you're starving. Stick to plan, the scale will move. Drove me nuts. We have yo get used to plateaus as we lose. I just never expected it so soon. 21. Definitely appeal! I was initially denied as well. I met every condition in their policy and did a medically supervised diet for two YEARS. Lost 10% of my body weight. My surgeon's office appealed for me, and my primary care doctor wrote a letter about the denial. They finally overturned their denial. Sometimes I think they just want to make people give up and go away, to save money. Keep fighting!!! Sent from my moto g(6) play using BariatricPal mobile app

Had mines on 10/25, it is hard to get liquids in and Protein shakes now its the worst, but getting better with it. I stalled as well for last 5 days and even gained, well I amp up my water intake yesterday, got in at least 60-70g of protein and stepped on scale this morning lost 3 lbs 1 pound more then gain I was relieved because I haven’t eaten much, if you are dehydrated like I was you will not lose weight, you will only retain fluid. So hang in there we got this!

Two-week postop tomorrow, even though I had surgery on 10/30 🤷‍♀️ I can’t wait for the ok to eat soft foods since my bday is on Saturday the 10th...fingers crossed 🤞 My surgery went pretty well, I mean since I’ve been home I didn’t need to use the pain killers and nausea meds they prescribed but unfortunately I got asthmatic bronchitis right after surgery and am also on steroids and antibiotics which delays the healing process but besides that I am doing great! What were the first soft foods you guys tried that wasn’t too heavy?
  24. HI, Today is my 7th week post surgery. I've lost 24 pounds but the last two weeks...nothing. I have my third post-op appointment next Thursday. My Dr. said he wanted me to loose 10 pounds by that appointment and I've only lost 3. I'm feeling a lot of pressure to "make weight" by next Thursday and it's really making me angry. I've spent my life being a slave to the scale and now that I've had the surgery, I just want to be good to my body and have a healthy attitude toward my weight loss and new eating habits. Thank you to anyone who reads this and has any wisdom or encouragement to share. I've never before participated in a site like this but I feel isolated because my schedule doesn't allow for me to join any support groups. Thanks again to all of you "out there"
