I think I've developed an irrational phobia about taking my dr prescribed medication....
_Kate_ replied to nomorechubbybutt63's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take Ramapril for high blood pressure and just break open the capsule and either mix it in a shake or a little yogurt. If you are on capsules maybe you can do the same but check with your GP first. As for as the cholesterol pill you could also speak to your GP to see if you can have it in liquid form for 3 months? If not see if it can be ground down without changing the composition of the medication. I know some can't be ground down but worth asking. Good luck! -
What do you do when you just cant tolerate another protein shake ?
freelee replied to amsaf's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I eat Dannon's Okios Triple ZeroGreek yogurt . It's in a black container....15 grams of protein, 15 carbs, zero fat, and 120 calories. I eat it a couple of times a day. -
The short answer to your question is you can run a Protein deficit for six weeks or so without major heath consequences. They body adapts but usually with lots of hair falling out ;-(. But that's not where you want to be. So keep trying shake mixes, or get some genpro and mix it in with yogurt and your puree. Tasteless and it dissolves well.

I had the surgery for my lapband Sept 2011. I lost 20lbs pretty quick and then it came to a crawl. They kept adding more and more Fluid to my band. From the 1st day I was able to eat soft food the Diarrhea started. I could be half way through a container of yogurt and I had to run to the bathroom. I called the nurse and they said, cant be from the band, that doesn't happen to banded patients only gastric bypass patients. ok so I thought its just my stomach getting used to the band. Two months go past and I have the same issue with solid foods. Again I tell my doctor and she insisted it was NOT the band. So now its been 4 years of not going anywhere because what if i have to find a bathroom and dont make it. If i had somewhere to be I wouldn't eat before I left. If i went to lunch with a friend or family I made sure that if i had other things to do when I was out that I did them first because after I eat I have to get home quick! Imodium helped somewhat. I would take 2 tablets BEFORE I ate. When I say everything gives me Diarrhea I mean everything. Dairy, Sugars, Fresh fruits and vegetables. I love salad but couldn't eat it because it went thought me in a matter of minutes! Last week I went to have some fluid removed. The last fill had been a year ago and since that time EVERYTHING was getting stuck, even water! I saw one of the nurse practitioners this time. I told him all the problems I had. He walked me down stairs to imaging and asked them to do am upper GI test to make sure that everything was ok. HE said everything looked good but he did take out the last fill which was only 0.02cc's of Water. I told him about the chronic Diarrhea and he said that he didn't think the band was causing it but when you mess with the stomach anything can happen. he asked me about my symptoms and when it would happen and I told him. He said he felt that it was IBS, Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Suggested I see a gastroenterologist or discuss it with my family doctor. I opted for my family doctor, because trying to get an appointment with gastro was nearly impossible. He said he felt so bad for me that i wouldn't leave my house! Said he would help me get my life back! Since the fluid was removed I actually have been eating less! Im guessing food was sitting on top of the band and not going into my stomach which kept me from feeling full. My doctor called in a prescription for Dicyclomine. It has worked wonders! I feel like a completely different person! I have had dairy and had no problems. Today I had a salad from subway. Ate it on an empty stomach and I feel great! If you are having the same issue, talk to your doctor about trying something for IBS! My life was a nightmare for the last 4 years and today... Dicyclomine has given me my life back!!

June 24th Peeps chime in!
rnsamantha replied to Sleevefornellie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm doing okay. Heartburn is a big issue, which surprises me since I never had it outside of pregnancy preop. I just switched to Nexium and it seems to be helping more than the Prilosec was. Still having some solid food struggles. I'm starting to feel like my surgeon is pushing the solids and 4oz quantities too fast. Cottage cheese, yogurt, cheese strings, re fried beans are all well tolerated. Meat (chicken, fish, pork, deli meat) are not. I haven't even tried beef yet and don't think I will anytime soon. So...I guess I'm sort of vegetarian these days?! -
Thanks, I think I'm just going to stay on my mushy foods longer and avoid meat for now. Fortunately dairy agrees with me, and I actually like my premier protein shakes so I can be vegetarian as long I still get to eat cheese and yogurt ????

Yogurt, frozen yogurt (don't beat me, lol), milk, frozen grilled chicken chunks, laughing cow cheese wedges, some sort of finger friendly veggie (like zucchini chunks, carrot sticks, whatever it is), some sort of fruit, and Peanut Butter. Definitely a creature of habit!

What does "Back to Basics" with Lap Band mean to you?
enjoythetime replied to meggs353's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Getting back to the basics for me means reflecting on what I have and haven't been doing. For me one of the most common things I omit without realizing it is my 80oz of Water. Since I don't drink soda any more and I've never been a coffee drinker the source of my caffeine is iced tea. Sometimes I find myself going through the day drinking (2) 32oz glasses of tea and realizing at the end of my day I've only had 1 bottle of water. The other thing I commonly find myself doing with a fast paced life is grabbing and going, so I will have a yogurt and trail mix for Breakfast, a Protein bar for lunch and then for dinner I will just grab another yogurt and trail mix just because it's the easiest thing for me. I'm eating high processed foods and am omitting the clean healthy whole foods from my diet. So the basics for me is 80oz of water, 3-4 oz of lean fresh protein and 1/2 cup of veggies per meal, finishing in 20 min regardless of what's left of my plate. When I commit myself to doing the very basic and core things I was taught in the beginning, the flex= I was seeing on the scale goes back to "normal" for me. -
I'm doing great too! Five weeks tomorrow, down 20.4 pounds with 45 to go (SW 200 GW 135). Feel basically normal, I just can only eat a little amount of any real food. I usually get in 65-90 grams of protein, but only if I drink a protein shake or protein fruit punch everyday. It's almost impossible to do it with chicken, fish, beans and dairy. I suppose Greek yogurt could get me there, I just like to not overdo dairy.

Creative liquid diet ideas
Dawn306 replied to krystalgenie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
With full liquids, you have tons of choices. You can pick up some of the Premier Protein shakes at costco, and have one of those. I like to use it as a base for a smoothie, with a banana and some ice and a tablespoon of Peanut Butter. You can have broth - lots of the tetra pack broths and stocks are quite tasty. With salt added. You can have milk and buttermilk and yogurt drinks. Could add some vanilla yogurt to the smoothie too. Tomato juice, V8, clamato with non-alcoholic beer, juices, even diet pop if you want, but we will have to give up carbonated drinks after the operation. I've run out of ideas, but with a full liquid diet, you have lots and lots of choices. Oh yes, and Jello, and popcicles, since they go back to Water once you eat them. I'm doing that too, and haven't found it too terrible for the first day. Then I have to do three days of clear liquids before surgery. That will be the hardest, I think. Let me know how you are doing in a few days! -
Others have suggested refried beans, tofu , yogurt.... I can't remember if you can have 1/2 of a smashed banana yet. Hopefully, more suggestions will come your way. Best of luck on your new way of life!

I have IBS and I also was told to use probiotics. It doesn't seem to matter which ones I take. I can say that I didn't notice anything with all the various pill style ones I have tried, but then I tried Kefir (in the milk cooler), and I did notice I had a lot less gas and less stomach upset. Kefir is a fermented milk product, and the unflavoured tastes like buttermilk. I have also used the flavoured (tasted like a yogurt drink but a little more sour), but I have since moved to the unflavoured to avoid the sugar.

What to stock fridge up with?!?!
samuelsmom replied to Nikki Monroe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For the liquid phase I used pre-made shakes like GNC Lean and Muscle Milk Light. I also kept greek yogurt close by. Honestly, I had no interest in anything those first few weeks after surgery. I sipped my beverages and tasted a little pureed turkey on Thanksgiving and that was it. I never actually pureed anything. I made food that was soft and mashed it up really good. Vegetarian chili was one of my favorites and had a decent amount of Protein. I rarely ever use the pre-made shakes anymore. I do make my own with 8 oz milk, 5oz tub of cannon light and fit yogurt, and a handful of berries which makes a great shake. Good luck to all with their surgeries! -
Carb question
OutsideMatchInside replied to ShannonSinTx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr and almost every plan I have seen is against grains. And even though there are grains like maltomeal and cream of wheat on my plan as options, my Dr still says to avoid them if possible. I see a lot of people eating cheese and crackers or crackers with their tuna salad. Or all the people that eat yogurt. Still 60-80 grams of carbs seems impossible with a tiny stomach, and still getting Protein in. -
Carb question
JamieLogical replied to ShannonSinTx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't *avoid* carbs, but since I am always working to meet my Protein goals first, I rarely have room for carbs. I never have rice or Pasta or potatoes, because they are so filling and if I ate them with a meal, there would be no way for me to get in the meat I need for my protein. I do have chips, candy, bread, muffins, and ice cream as rare treats in between meals and only if I get all my protein in. Certainly not every day. Usually not even once a week. But every once in a while. Most of my daily carbs come from dairy, sauces for whatever meat I'm eating, Protein Bars, and the little bit of Kashi cereal or granola I add to my greek yogurt on the days that I work out. -
I don't care to food shop, but I know I need my yogurt, veges, a few fruits, chicken and chicken salad fresh. I really don't linger, and I spend very little. Gnc makes me spend for my protein bars/ drinks. Almost as much! I noticed I don't have what I call " my fat habits". For me those were cooking shows, cookbook perusing, lots of grocery shopping....you get it... All food oriented habits. Now if I could lessen the "lets meet for lunch/ dinner/ drinks "that most of the world attends... I would be happier. And I do meet friends for walks and non food related fun also Just me and my rambling 8 + years post op⭐️

Carb question
glitter eyes replied to ShannonSinTx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I eat some grains/carbs now that I am in maintenance. While I was losing the majority of my weight I rarely had carbs, except what was in my Greek yogurt, protein shakes, veggies, and the occasional fruit. Everyone is different on what they can eat and still lose weight. I tracked everything I ate and used that to determine which weeks I lost the best and what my intake was for calories and carbs. Then I stuck to that combination. You got this. Just find what works best for you. Lots of luck ???? -

I could drink Water from the start fairly easy. I was warned by nut how painful it would be if I drank water too fast. Still haven't felt that. Feel I can eat a lot more than most can too. Sleeved May 20th so I think I should be feeling more than I am. Losing slower than others sleeved the same time too. I am only eating Protein and a little little bit of vegies. Tomatoes, Cauliflower, sweet potatoes, squash. And add Protein powder or yogurt to sweet potatoes. But feel hungry 30 min after eating. I upped my calorie count to 1000 this week to see if that will help. Any suggestions?
-
Heh. I can only speak from my own experience, not any medical training, unfortunately. I'm 11 months out and I have definitely been hungry many many times. Once I started really working out a lot, I had to add a snack between Breakfast and lunch to ward off hunger in the mornings. And I had to add some carbs to my afternoon snack (added kashi Cereal or granola to greek yogurt) before my workouts so I had enough fuel to get through them without getting light-headed. I also get what my family refers to as "hangry" if I go more than 3-4 hours without eating. It's never a problem when I'm in my normal routine, because I make sure to eat on a schedule. But if I am traveling or on vacation or whatnot and manage to go 3-4 hours without eating, I get super moody. The people around me notice before I do. My husband and I went on vacation with my parents twice this spring and on the second trip, my mom started carrying around peanuts and turkey snack sticks in her purse and forcing me to eat them when I started acting "hangry".

Congratulations, I had my RNY on the the 28th. No pain meds since about 4 am on the 29th. I have had some very mild discomfort with the incisions, now they just itch. But the staples come out in 5 hours. BM came at three days post op. I have been behind on Fluid intake only 14 ounces first day home. And have increased daily, broke the 48 Oz mark yesterday for the first time. I think I had some lasting inflammation as I had very bad case of dry heaves after surgery. Took three different anti nausea meds to get it stopped. Not sure if it was from the anesthesia or what. It seems there is a big difference in the diets I have seen. I was 2 days post before Protein shakes and can start yogurt and blended strained Soups tomorrow.
-
Also yesterday I mixed a quarter cup of sugar free jello vanilla pudding with a quarter cup greek plain yogurt. Gave it a little extra flavor from the pudding. I liked it, and got some protein in.
-
No I not eating Greek yogurt. My NUT says in week three you can eat it. By the way I am drinking almond milk which has zero sugar. Also I am taking apple or orange powder and then mix with water, that is my juice. It has zero sugar but very low calorie. The brand called great value and you can find it in walmart.
-
@@khaled - IMO, you need to call your NUT. I was told to stay away from juice (too many sugars) and milk. I don't know what plan your surgeon has you on post-op. Clear liquids now? If not, you can probably have strained Soups like cream of chicken, broccoli and cheese, egg drop - my faves. That may eliminate the "hunger" you are feeling. Sounds like you need Protein and you won't get it from juice. Milk a little and depending on the yogurt it could be very little. Are you eating greek yogurt?
-
I am actually on full liquid. All I drink is milk and some juice plus yogurt thinned with milk. I HATE protein shakes they taste disgusting. I tried different brand but they all taste terrible.
