  1. Erm, not sure... but... that sounds like a MASSIVE NSV from where I am standing, well sitting...lol!! Congrats on the new shrinking you! =]
  2. So my husband was talking to a coworker about how he's trying to lose weight and he mentioned my success because I've lost 33lbs so far. She wanted to know how and he told her about the surgery and now she's going through my doctor to get the lap band. It feels good that I'm inspiring people to improve themselves.
  3. I've had this dress for a year and I can finally fit it. This was my first time participating in my children's harvest carnival. I've always just volunteered but never dressed up. My girls were so excited I was a bunny lol. A bow tie, tail, and ears.

    Anyone else feel DISCOURAGE

I'm not sure what's making you feel unhappy, but I think it's that you have lost weight, but don't see it when you look in the mirror? It's very common for people who lose weight not to see the difference. Extremely common, actually. You didn't say how much you have lost, but I know that one of these days it will bowl you over. When all of your clothes are falling off or you realize that you can move your body in ways that you couldn't before and a million other ways. They're all called Non-scale Victories (NSV's) -- the wonderful changes that are separate from the scale. What I am sure of is that you used to go out with your boyfriend before surgery. Go today. Of course you want to see the difference from losing weight, but life is NOW, not 10 or 50 pounds from now.

    New NSV woot.

Laura, what a good NSV. I would be so thrilled with that! I have had chronic heartburn for the past four or five years, resulting in Barrett's esophagus, and I'm on Nexium one or two a day. It let up during the liquid phase but came back again when I started solids. I am SO hoping I get to share in your NSV soon!
  7. Last weekend my husband told me he can't wait until my ex-husband sees me after losing all this weight (about 30 pounds), and that my ex-husband will be blown away (although, I don't think he used "blown away" I think it was more obscene). My husband isn't a typical "macho" man, but apparently there's a competitive caveman in every man. I think he's proud!
  8. Congratulations!! EVERY nsv counts!! Hooray!

    NSVs?

NSV stands for Non Scale Victory - something like getting into that pair of jeans you've been hanging on to for years, or stuff like that. Don't feel bad, I didn't know either.

Running, Size Changes, and Getting Adjusted

Hi Everyone! I'm happy to report that I started and finished the Couch-to-5k running program, and on Saturday, October 17th, I ran my first 5k race! It was called the Penguin 5k, and raises funds for the Penguins at Mystic Aquarium in Connecticut. Since I'd completed the Couch-to-5k program - a 9 week program that takes you from walking and no running to running 3 miles - I figured I was ready for a race. I took longer than 9 weeks to complete the program because I repeated some weeks when I felt I wasn't ready. That was one of the smartest things I've ever done - it let me complete the program injury-free. The race was fun - a bright, clear day, lots of other runners around. The course went from asphalt (roads) through a field (plowed / cleared but still bumpy and a bit muddy from recent rains) and then up a hill (tree roots, rocks, and more soft dirt - oh my!), through a subdivision (killer hill there) and into a cul-de-sac, where we turned around and ran back. When the race started, I kinda figured I'd be at the back of the pack, so to speak, and I was right! The "rabbits" took off in a bunch - they were really fast compared to me. There were some people who walked the course, and there was me and a couple of others, running slowly and chugging along. I finished the race in 45:10 - slower than I'd thought I would, but I was happy to finish! I was second-to-last, but the cheers from my fellow racers along the way and the thumbs-up I got from the volunteers along the route helped me to feel great about finishing. I'm going to continue to run, and while I may not do another race before Winter sets in, I'm already thinking about next spring and what races I'd like to do. I have a goal to reduce my time by 10% for the next 5k. My weight is pretty stable at 191 lbs, and I'm okay with that. My size keeps dropping, though - I am now fitting into size 14's (depending on label) and some size L clothes from Target. I'm so excited I can barely stand it - these are wonderful NSV's! I think my body has to have time to adjust to what I've done to it :huh2: I'm able to control the hunger so far - though I know that's as much a function of my band, "Jillian" as it is of my "willpower". I'm eating more protein and trying to balance the carbohydrates. I'm close to getting off my diabetes meds and I'm hoping November will be not only my 1 year Bandiversary, but also the month I leave the meds behind. I'm also adjusting my "head" - occasionally I am still surprised when I walk past a mirror and see the new, thinner me. I still think of myself as "plus-sized", though I really don't fit that designation any more. I've been a Big Girl for so long that when someone refers to me as "skinny", I often don't know who they are talking about! The head journey is going to be the longest part of this - while my body is adjusting, my head also needs to adjust, and so far, my head is lagging behind... Right now I am nursing a sore right hip - think I overdid it a bit on the race but that's not going to stop me from continuing to run and continuing to run this race to fitness and health. If you are not yet banded, I encourage you to do your research and determine if this is right for you. If you are banded and struggling, talk to your doctor, your nutritionist or a counselor, and get yourself back on track - you CAN succeed at this! If you are loving your banded life as I am, and making progress toward your ultimate goal of health and well-being, then GOOD FOR YOU and keep up the good work! Till next time...
  11. awesome job ! You go girl, and I'll be right behind you ! Are'nt nsv's fun ??? Way to go !

2 Month Progress ( Pic Included)

i know right? That is SOOOOO irritating considering all that we have gone through... not knowing if you are going to wake up from surgery... going from normal bites to teeny weeny baby bites...taking an hour to eat something that normally would take you about 10-15 minutes. Not being able to drink while you eat... no more Diet Dr. Pepper for me....battling "head hunger" which in my opinion is WAY worse than physical hunger. Having to get in your "protein" when your body is full and your literally uncomfortable from feeling stuffed. This is by far one of the hardest things I've ever had to deal with. It has become so frustrating at times... I simply just drink shakes all day so I don't have to deal with solid foods. On the bright side...my weight loss is coming along and I am forever grateful for that. My current NSV ( my size 16's are getting loose so I'm on my way to a 14) and I can wear a size Large in Old Navy tops instead of XXL and XL. :-) (my fav store right now) Thanks to everyone who has commented and left words of encouragement... you guys help keep me focused on the BIGGER picture....and not my daily inconveniences.
  13. Well, I am back from visiting my daughter in Florida. I must admit I was concerned about making the trip only 7 weeks post-op, but it went just fine! (except on one occasion when I ate too much too fast) In fact, I had the best NSV to date. I didn't need a seatbelt extender on the plane for the first time in 15 years!! And, I could actually move down the aisle of the plane without bumping any seats or passengers. I didn't even need to turn sideways. I couldn't believe it! The reality of how this weight loss surgery is changing my life hit me like a ton of bricks and I was so thankful I did it! It's things like this that the forever skinny people just can't possibly appreciate, but I'll never forget it

    Vacation NSV!

Sounds like a wonderful vacation!! I would love a little Florida sunshine, it was about 10 degrees here today! Congratulations on your NSV's, how exciting!
  15. If you aren't local you just might nit understand what a big event the Houston LS & R is, but it talkes over the Reiliant Stadium, Toyota Center, and adjacent real estate (hundreds or acres) and parking lots all around - rodeo, shopping, shopping, shopping, food, food, food, live big name venues every night, every type of farm demonstration and animal, etc... ..oh yeah, and the carnival. I will be riding the rides today, for the first time in years.... I will NOT be eating the fried anything! or the popcorn! I got me a rock-a-billy shirt and steampunk vest, pair of carheart jeans and my trusted steel-toed boots, and my hat with my horns...cause sometimes the missies are the one's with the biggest, er, horns, LOL.

    Down 102 lbs!

I'm 5 months post op tomorrow! I finally hit my first major goal of 100lbs down. This is including what I lost before surgery. I started last January (2017) at 355.2lbs, this morning I was 253lbs! Not sure what my goal weight is yet, as Ive been heavy my entire life, so I don't know what's a good weight for me. I think I'm aiming for the 180's! Just a reminder to trust the process, and enjoy the little NSV's and not just the scale. I had a month long stall last month and I hated it. I tried everything and turns out I wasn't eating enough! Good luck to everyone, feel free to share stories or pictures! Total loss=102lbs Loss since surgery= 68lbs (5 months post op) [emoji1]
