Lindaa - congrats on your NSV. It's so good to know you can probably at some point get off having to take daily doses of medication for the rest of your life. That's the bleak future I was facing as well. Not any more though! Sunshine - hang in there. I went on a couple of weeks hiatus from weight loss too. It's frustrating when you know you're doing everything right and you're not seeing any progress for your efforts. I agree with lindaa, keep track of what you're eating and show it to your doctor. You may need a slight adjustment to your band, or there may be something else going on. Best to check with the experts. I got my second fill on Friday because I wasn't seeing any change in the scales and was able to eat more than I should have been. Friday night was pretty tough for me. I woke up 4 times in the night choking on my own spit. I was worried that I'd gotten too much of a fill. It was the weekend and I probably couldn't have gotten hold of my doctor unless it was an emergency. I didn't feel it was at that stage yet. I decided that I'd go for the day (Saturday) making sure I was at least getting water down so as not to get dehydrated. It was kinda tough in the morning, but as the day progressed it got a little easier. I managed some soup on Sat night as well. Sunday morning I made a protein shake. It took me an hour to get through that, but I made it without PBing. I had soup for lunch. In the afternoon I treated myself to an iced orange mocha at Starbucks. I'm not a big coffee drinker, but ohmystars it was delicious! I had a protein shake again for dinner. Today I start mushies until I feel game enough to venture onto solids. But this morning it feels like I'm too restricted for food, so I'm just having a protein shake again. Maybe I'll try yoghurt and/or some egg salad for lunch. I take my vitamins religiously and my energy levels are good, despite Aunt Flo being due for a visit this week. My hubby and son had a sub sandwich from Quizno's on Sunday and I was envious of them for being able to sink their teeth into it. I wasn't feeling hungry or anything, I just missed stuffing my face with food. :embarassed: That's probably a bad thing. :paranoid The scales are on the downward move again. :whoo:I don't feel hungry. I don't miss being hungry!!! Life is good. I love my band! :biggrin1:

My NSV: I've been taking blood pressure medicine since I was pregnant with my last child 21 years ago. Even when I lost over 100 pounds and was "normal" weight I needed to take it, although my dose has been increased quite a bit over they years. Yesterday, it occured to me that the dizziness I've been experiencing lately may be related to blood pressure issues, so I checked it. It was a very low (for me) 90/60. So today I took only 1/2 the amount I've been taking and have a call in to my doctor. YES!

    Exercise NSV's! woohoo!

I had TWO great exercise NSV's this morning. I have been walking & running (couch potato to 5k program) for nearly a month now, using the bike bath near my house. NSV #1: I ran (ha! that is an overstatement of my very slow jog) 22 out of 40 minutes I was working out. All the way from my starting point to the bottom of the big hill (15 minutes) then turned around and walked back up the hill and ran (7 minutes) back to my start. Woo! NSV #2: just as I was ending my run, I was very tired and wanted to try to keep running back to the start but wasn't sure I could. I see the same people on the path every day, including one lady with her huge black poodle. This morning, she smiled at me as I was running my last tenth of a mile, and said "I wish I had your energy!" I was so flabergasted I had to ask her to repeat it to make sure I heard her correctly. Then I laughed! Tomrrow I'll have to make sure I tell her how much it meant to me to hear her say that. :whoo: I'm really starting to love this running thing. Frog.
  6. I had a great NSV last week. I went out to lunch with 5 other people and only one person knew I had this surgery. One of the guys that work directly for me ask me if I was full since I only got clam chowder Soup in a bowl. I told him and the group that yes I was and had a big smile. I doubt he has figured it out yet unless others have told him. Chris

How's this for an NSV? Do it! It will be the best decision you ever made. I actually wore that bikini in public last week up in Byron and it was the BEST feeling.

August Bandsters How are you Doing So Far

Finally broke into the 280's.....was stuck between 294 and 296 for over two weeks and them spent a week -- IKYN -- bouncing between 290.4 and 290.8 -- EVERY FLIPPIN' DAY!!! (Save the lectures about weighing every day.....I've heard 'em all already!) Have PBed a few times -- not as bad as I had feared. I need to SLOW DOWN. Need to avoid HOLDING my food. Puts me in too much of a rush. First 2 PBs were eating something hand-held. I'm having to force myself to put it ON the plate and use my utensils. I must be one of those people who is extra constricted in the mornings -- in fact, if I have a short night, I can really expect a PB if I don't take it exceptionally slow at breakfast. I may never drink another protein shake or bowl of soup as long as I live -- I think I don't even like CHOCOLATE any more because it reminds me of shakes! How ghastly is THAT!!?! I went in on the 26th for my first fill, but he was concerned that it might take more than one stick to find my port....so he rescheduled me for the 8th. I REALLY want that fill. I've figured out I have more HEAD hunger than actual hunger. I do great at mealtimes, however, its the evening snacking that I fight -- even with the band. I have about three skirts that I've had to pull out of the closet because wearing them puts me at risk of public humiliation, because they could just fall off without warning. That's a NSV, right??

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Good evening, Violets... Looks like we're stuck together for the long haul, right Sista's?? I for one will be here long after I get to goal, whenever that might be. We're here for each other to celebrate all those NSVs plus the SVs and to be there for each other when things just aren't going the way we'd planned. Just don't drop out of sight and stop posting, puleeeeze!!! I'm losing slowly since the cruise, but I'm losing and that's what counts. My fill is working. I have restriction and it's really making me slow down on my eating. DH does not have restriction and we might have to go back and get a fill for him in the next couple of weeks. He's able to eat anything and everything. We've been so busy we haven't been able to exercise everyday like we should. I've done more than he has so it's time to kick his butt and get him in gear. Next week starts our October exercise challenge. I didn't make my Sept. one, but that's in the past and a new month lies ahead. Lunasa, so good to hear from you again!! We're always here for you. TracyK.. great picture.. look at those collarbones!! woooo hoooooo!!! Laura.. love your signature pic too!! Ohhhh I had a bad thing happen today... sigh... I lost my brand new amber ring I bought on the Alaska cruise. It got too loose on my finger and fell off somewhere. It's nice that my fingers are getting thinner, but not nice that things are falling off!!! At least my wwjd bracelet will never fall off!! Everyone have a good night. Patience, trust and WWJD??!!

Michelle I am never giving up my violets! So If you don't reach your goal when I do, YOU ARE STUCK WITH ME. I love sharing with my violets. I feel like you gals know me better than anyone at this point in my life. When something happens, boy issue, NSV, or just being insane like normal, The first place I go is to my violets. So... On that happy note... you can't get rid of me girlfriend. I'll Drive down to kick your butt if I have to. You know I love road trips
  11. Wow Panda, you look great! You have to update your avatar!! & congrats on the coaster ride -- it really is the NSVs that make this journey so fun! "Pregnant w/ice cream's baby!" -- you CRACK ME UP Laura!!! But I still stand by my honesty @ typing what I'm feeling... hey, if I can't be honest HERE, then I'm screwed, cuz' really, no one in REAL life cares all THAT much to sit & listen to it every day... like YOU GUYS DO!! ((hugs)) And while I do completely celebrate my -53... @ the same time... realistically... when someone looks @ me, I'm still a 264 lb woman!! That's the wt a lot of the gals on here STARTED at!! It's not as if I'm going to be hitting ONE-derland any time soon or anything! Sheesh, by the time I get there, I'll probably be the only one left posting to this thread, as everyone else will have hit their ultimate goals and gone on to enjoy full & productive skinny lives... and then there was one... me... posting to myself & the dust bunnies... (hee hee) BUT... SLOW & STEADY!!... that's me!!! & today's a new bright shiny day!! Make it a great one, everyone!!

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Morning violets Kat - you are an amazing woman. I am so happy for you on your NSV. I was smiling away thinking that we are going to keep having NSV's, even when we think we are can't have anymore. Have fun seeing your friend. TracyK- whooooo hoooooooooo you are getting closer. My 199 goal is Halloween. I am getting my 2nd fill on the 16th and can't wait. I am starting to get out of control and really need it. I did take my measurements today since I've been an exercise queen again and it moved 1/4" I know not enough to matter but at least it is moving. If I can lose a total of 1" by working out by my fill without loosing anything I will be extremely happy Panda - you look so great and I am sure you had a great time on the roller coaster. I went to six flags and went on some rides and fit about 25lbs ago and that felt great so I'm sure you were very comfortable! Well I am going to drink some coffee and try to wake up - I need to shower and be to work by 11. It is only a mile there but along my new walking route. So.... I am going to walk to work. I would do it more if I didn't have to walk home at midnight.
  13. Terry, I agree with your eating. I DO enjoy it more, part of it is actual taste, the other part is the lack of shame in how much I actually ate!!! I buy better quality food now, because I buy less quantity. I will buy small filets as opposed to the larger sirloin for instance. Or will opt to pay more for fresh veggies in the produce section as opposed to canned goods. In that way the food I eat tastes better. The other side of it is, I no longer feel shame about how much I ate, or how I should have made better choices. I don't end every day vowing to do better the next day. The band has allowed me to relax with food, and enjoy it without the emotions getting in the way. I can't explain it well, but, I know it figures in to how much I enjoy food these days. When I see the little square Ghirardelli chocolates at a checkout counter, I can grab one, and savor it, I know it will be enough to satisy the sweet tooth....and be happy about it, I do not have to buy the family size bag of M & M's, and polish them off in a day! I have found new foods I like, but not tons....mainly because I have not gone looking!!! I am a creature of habit. I go to restaurants and always order the same thing! I have my usuals everywhere we go!!! But I am not complaining, I am ok with that. I am much more experimental at home. My biggest issue with food has been to learn not to cook so much! I cook like we are still a family with 3 kids eating...we are not!!! Well we took the wood to my Dad today and unloaded it for him, he was pretty happy!!!! He is not supposed to lift more than 10-15 pounds, since his carotid artery surgery. My Mom belongs to the Rebbekah Lodge, and is at a 4 day National Conferance...so Dad was home alone. I think he really loved getting the surprise of the good wood, but also for the company. Then we went out to my inlaws and split wood for them, until our son pissed off his Dad, and his wife made me mad as hell, so we just left them to do it alone!!! Damn kids! I got a call today from a friend I have not seen in YEARS!!! We lived near one another when our kids were tiny. We were both going through divorces, and had daughters the same age. We spent tons of time together, and then she moved back down south where her family was from...we have only got together sporadically since. We talk on the phone and email, but she is here--I get to see her tomorrow!! And I am not ashamed to face her! Not that she would think or say anything, she was always overweight as well...but I was ashamed of myself. And tomorrow I won't be....it feels like a HUGE NSV for me! Self pride....hmmmm....what a concept! Tomorrow I am going with Becky to find a hearth pad for their new woodstove-then we are going on a New Construction Home Parade. I have gone for several years, it is a lot of fun. Local builders open up homes they built for tours....lots of good ideas!!! Then going to dinner with my friend. To meet her fiance!! His family is from our area, so I might actually get to see her more often! Well I feel better, but took some cold meds, and they are kicking in, and my eyes are a drooping!!! Will check in with y'all tomorrow when I get a chance!!! The city put in new electric poles behind us, so we were without power for several hours today. Now I have to look forward to the phone company, and the cable company changing their lines over!!!! Whatcha wanna bet the phone company screws up....they ALWAYS do when I am involved!!! Catch y'all tomorrow! Kat

Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Hi everyone  Chim, glad you've finally got your first fill and it's working in your favor so far. YAY! :whoo: I got my second today. My doc told me at my first fill that it might take another one or two to find my sweet spot. I haven't been ravenously hungry, but I've been able to eat more than I should have and not lost any weight in two weeks. But the good news is I haven't gained either! So now I have 2.5cc in my 4cc band and am assured I'll definitely feel the restriction. I'm looking forward to it. There are times when I miss eating and sharing different foods with my family, but I sure don't miss the insatiable hunger and over-eating. I also managed another NSV this week. I went for a check-up with my GP for Insulin Resistance. I had blood drawn and tested for free testosterone and insulin levels. The results came back good! I'm doing better now than I've ever done on the medication I used to get those levels under control. So good in fact I'm NORMAL!!! It's been a good number of years since anyone's told me I'm normal.

None of my fills have hurt and he doesn't numb me or use a fluroscope. He just has me keep my legs out straight lying down and raise them slightly to tighten the stomach muscles and it is easy to see where to stick the needle. No pain! Kathy, thanks for asking about NSV, pretty sure it meant a new good thing, but didn't know what it stood for. Tried to post from airport on Sunday, but lost it and didn't feel like typing again. Wanted to tell you what my dr said when i asked him why we panic so when we pb. I mean it isn't blocking the airway, so why do we sweat, get flushed, have saliva pouring out, nose running, get panicky, etc. etc. He said that it is because of all the main nerves running behind the esophagus. I remember that my mother had a hysterectomy for cancer and then they stuck their hands in to remove the tumor that was on the intestines and her heartrate would skyrocket. When they pulled back out, everything was normal. It was the Vaga (sp?) nerve that runs up the esophagus to the stomach.

NSV - I need new clothes!

Lauren, That's terrific. I totally understand the buying all you can find that fits...At 6ft tall, I have the same problem (just different!!! ). What a great NSV...Happy for you! Lorraine
  17. This has been my first real NSV since surgery. Well, a couple of weeks after surgery, a couple of people said that they could see that my face was thinner, but that doesn't really count because they knew I had surgery. Anyway, I noticed today that I could pull my pants down without unzipping them (unbuttoned but not unzipped) and that my shirt was baggier than I remember it being. So I guess I need new clothes! It's a good thing that the last time I found pants that I liked, I bought three different sizes of them (when you're 5'3" and fat, and find something you like that fits well, you get several because you'll never find them again if you go back to look).

I AM SOOOOO JEALOUS!!! I want one now!!!! I've been wanting one for a while, but I have others things I have to buy first...you lucky duck!!! Marcy, first, congrats on reaching 238!!! That is wonderful! As for what you mentioned above, I think you're talking about sliming and not PBing. Neither one is fun, though. Appleblossom, I am loving the fall colors/theme you've got going on w/your posts! Citygirl, I'm sorry about your fill drama. I go tomorrow for my first fill and I hope it is pretty uneventful. I'll let ya'll know how it goes. Chris, YAY!! You got your fill. My first is tomorrow. And look at all those NSVs!!! Congratulations. Sorry about the bill. That bites, but I'm sure you'll be able to appeal it and win.

Hey everyone!! Hope you are all doing great. SOunds like there are quite a few NSV. Congrats!!! Doesn't it feel great to move on to SMALLER clothes and exspecially when they are clothes you couldn't fit before!!!!!!! I dont care much for shopping for clothes because I don't like a lot of the new styles but I love being able to drag out a 'new' box of my 'someday I hope to fit into these' clothes. I have a question. I can't remember who mentioned the medication but my question is this. I was told to crush my pills and take them in apple sauce or something and if I can get something in liquid to do that. Does anyone else do this? Just wondered. I am afraid of getting a pill stuck if I try to just take them so I will continue to crush even though that is one taste I will NEVER get used to. LOL The NSAIDS (ibuprofen, advil and etc.) I too was told absolutely NO NSAIDS. I was told tylenol and things with no ibuprofen in them. I was also told that they do not know for SURE but that there was a possibility of it being linked to erosion with the band.

Depending on who you ask... I had an NSV today. I needed new bras and was going to treat myself to some cute Victoria's Secret bras since I am now of a size that can be bought in that store..36 DD!! Down from 40 DDD..(like I said.. NSV depending on who you ask.. the fiance isnt extremely happy that my "girls" have gotten smaller.. but I'm happy).. After coming to my senses about paying $51 for a bra.. I decided to walk around the mall and ended up shopping on the clearance rack at LB.. I got 4 bras for $28!! Twinmommy- Try starting a thread about paying it forward.. if the May girls are unable to use your clothing, I'm sure someone out there most certainly can!
