  1. Any advice for a first time fill 10/25? I have a really busy social life this week and will be eating out several times. I'm a little worried and would like some direction on managing my band and menu. Thanks all - LapBand Talk has been a life saver in so many ways:wub:
  2. I am 3 weeks post op for my rny and I am on the full liquid diet. Ive been eating mainly soup some blended and put through a strainer others come smooth. I have tolerated everything so far.Today I decide to try pudding and I got half way through the cup and realized I was supposed to mix it with milk and now I'm freaking out. My stomach hurts and I'm scared its stuck and clogging my stomach. What do I do?!

    Day 3 after surgery.

Yes, entirely normal when you're afraid of what might happen if you eat! I've only dim memories of the post surgical phase, it was over five years ago now, but I've recently had a bowel obstruction and that was pretty darn painful. I was 3 days of nil by mouth in the hosptial, then onto post procedural fluids. It took me 2 weeks to get up the courage to move off mushies, and only at the urging of my surgeon and oncologist who were threatening sustagen (urgh) because I'd dropped to 58 kgs which is well and truly in the underweight territory for me. I was really scared of a recurrence and felt quite sure I could live on mushies indefinitely, lol. But naturally everything was absolutely fine. Post lapband - you might find your weight does strange things as you move through phases. I mean you've done pre op - and probably had significant weight loss - then pre surgical fasting, then a while with no food and then liquids, move onto mushies or solids and your weightloss will most probably stop, that's if you dont actually gain a couple of pounds. Be logical - you CANT gain 3 lb of fat overnight, its physiologically impossible, you know its got to be Water weight. Dont let it get you down, try not to weigh yourself daily, stick with the progam and you will succeed at this, but know that weight doesnt drop steadily, logically or predictably week by week and prepare for that fact
  5. Can fringing too much water an hour after eating cause pain in the chest area? I'm 4 weeks post op
  6. Hi sleevers ! I'm one month out & everything is going great! I feel good, I'm losing weight, and exercising again. I was actually getting hungry in the evenings, not head hunger but real hunger. My Nut said it was because the soft foods weren't staying with me anymore & I needed to move on to dense food. I'm curious what is everybody eating at this point? Or what did you eat at one month out? I am getting tired of eating the same foods over and over. I can't wait until I can add raw fruits & veggies back! I know I won't be eating much, but I miss being able to crunch on something. I want a crunchy cucumber! I am eating the same foods over & over. Egg for breakfast, tuna or deli meat for lunch, fish or chicken for dinner. ( I can't eat pork) If I have room I add a fork full of canned green beans or other well cooked vegetable. Sometimes I eat cottage cheese, but my Nut wants me to stop with the softer foods. It isn't a challenge to eat this way, it is just getting boring. I have noticed I can eat a bit more now too. Like I started out two weeks ago eating 1-1.5 oz of tuna and now I can eat 2.5 comfortably. I'm not really sure how much I should eat at this point. Please share what you are eating or did eat, if you feel comfortable share how much you eat too. Its hard to know what is "normal" as we get close to eating regular foods again. Of course our new diet with regular food is completely different then before surgery. Any new food suggestions would be appreciated too! Thanks!

Pre-bander questions for those at Goal?

You are absolutely right and you listed the most important thing first...YOUR HEAD. You can't do this well if you are not mentally ready. For me I woke up the morning that I decided to have this surgery and I was ready. For some people that day comes a day, a week, a month, a year after being banded. But I think when you finally get to the point that you realize that we are STRONGER that the food that we put in our mouth, that is when you reach success.

    Need Advice - Urgent!

I had my surgery done in Tijuana on October 3, 2006 by Dr. Daniel Huacuz. I was picked up at the airport by his driver and brought to his surgical facility. The surgery was done that evening. The next day I went to flouroscopy to make sure everything was fine with the surgery. The following day, I went home. I have lost 96 lbs. in nine months and feel wonderful. I could have not been treated more professionally. Dr. Huacuz and his whole staff have always been there for me. Since that time I have referred 12 people to them and they have all been pleased.
  10. I had my surgery July 9th and my weight loss was great. I started my birth control once I got my period, stepped in the scale one morning and all of a sudden I gained 6lbs. The weight is coming down about a 1lb a week and it's very frustrating. Has this happened to anyone? I feel like getting off the BC but if I got pregnant that would be a whole separate problem. Please help Kellee

    New Here!

Hello! I'm so glad I found this form! I been reading for a couple week. I've talked about having weight loss surgery for the past 2 years and the last couple months I guess you would say I've hit rock bottom. I attended my first seminar class and it only pumped me up even more. I'm still waiting for the doctors office to call me back with a consultation with the surgeon. Luckily they have been wonderful with trying to fit all my appointments in on one day since I'm traveling 4 hours. Before the seminar I was dead set on having the lap band because I was terrified to have most of my stomach removed. I had this thought that what happened if I get sick and something bad happened a to the remaining part of my stomach. After the seminar I felt lead to do more research on the sleeve. Even though my mind isn't 100 % made up I still feel lead to have the sleeve! A few questions I wasn't able to find is with my insurance BCBS TN they require you to lose 10% of your weight before they do surgery. I'm very nervous because I feel like that will be the only thing holding me back. I haven't met with the nutritionist yet so hopefully she will be able to help me. Any advice so I can start?? Thanks in advance! I'm sure I will have more questions!

    Has anyone tried paleo?

I know. I eat chili several times a week. The no dairy thing might be a deal breaker. I might lean more toward primal.
  14. I am 16 months post op on 11/23. I have lost 60 pounds and have recently started working 2 full time jobs and unfortunately gained 4.5 pounds. I realized this and have decided to follow the pre-op and post-op diet to a T just to get myself back on track. Today is day 2 of liquids. I had a 5 day liquid diet before surgery and then 1 week liquids, 1 week mushies, 1 week soft and then the 4th week slowly introduced solid protein and veggies back in to my diet. Thanksgiving I will allow some solid foods but only for that day and only 1 meal. The liquid diet is definitely an eye opener to how reliant I am still on food. I am in this for success and will make it there. I have about 44-49 pounds I would like to lose. I am 194 right now and a size 14/L. I started out at 250ish and was in a size 20-22 and a 2xl shirt. I just stared getting really comfortable with my size and realized I need to lose even more to be healthy. I am not in this to get "skinny", I am in this to be healthy. I will get there. Down 1.5 pounds in 2 days. Wish me luck!!!
  15. What a bummer house smelled amazing and I felt sick to my stomach all day. Could't really figure out why until I realized I had forgotten to take my ppi meds the last 2-3 days. UGH!!! Took meds around lunch time and was able to get a little turkey down then dumped (2nd time in a month). Today was NOT a fun day. Not enough Protein, Water, anything. Felt terrible. Worst day since surgery. Oh well, suck it up and start a new day tomorrow!

    I hate liquids.

I hate liquids too. I didn't really get a lot of post op instructions ( sleeved in Mexico ) so I've been winging it. A little more than 3 weeks out I can eat most anything within reason and have had no issues at all. I'm waiting to add things like salad and steak but I sure wish I had some. This continual battle to get enough liquids each day is just that - a constant battle. Hang in there! I see some refried beans in your near future.

    I hate liquids.

/rant on Uughhh, just need to get this off my chest. I am about three weeks post op and my surgeon has a four week liquid phase requirement prior to moving to purées. Add that to a two week pre-op phase and I am getting close to the end of my tolerance for liquids. I have not cheated and I will not, but man I am ready for some refried beans!!! I have had a complication free journey so far (knock on wood), no problems with liquids of any kind. I know these weeks are such a short amount of time in the grand scheme of things but man did I mention I want some refried Beans?? With cheese and sour cream maybe, oh and guacamole. I can make it one more week, but d****t I want something other than liquid! (Have I mentioned that Mexican food is/was my favorite thing in the world...) Ok, I feel better. /rant off Sent from my iPad using VST
  19. I was banded the same day as you. My doctor told me that the incisions would feel fine in a few days but the port incision would be swollen, bruised and/or sore for 3-6 weeks. Sorry, I know it's not fun to think of. I guess because I knew that going in I was prepared so it's not terrible but it's certainly not fun!

    Any Type 1 diabetics here?

I am a type-1 pumper. I was sleeved 12/08/15. I have lost 25 pounds since day of surgery. I am on less than half of the insulin I was on before surgery. I am also off of 3 blood pressure meds, and all of my cholesterol meds. My blood sugars have been great, and I've only had 2 lows that needed to be treated, which I do with skim milk. I feel great and have a lot of energy, which I didn't expect. I upload my blood sugars with carelink(I have a Medtronic minimed) to my endocrinologist once a week and they adjust as needed. It has been a blessing and I couldn't be happier with the decision!

    6mths and appetite returning

I got my appetite back and could eat anything around 3 months. I welcomed the not getting sick from eating whatever I want part! I will get full pretty quick if I eat I eat dense proteins first. However, I can eat things like yogurt, eggs, cheese, fruit, mashed potatoes, nuts, soup, cereal, etc. and not get full at all. (And I'm sure I could down a LOT of chips or ice cream if I wanted to.) But where's the rule that says we have to eat until we're full? If I'm eating something that isn't as filling, I simply stop when I know I've had "enough". Then I wait 45-60 minutes and start drinking. I will be hungry again in about 3 hours and then I eat again. Rarely do I eat until I'm full. The goal should be about getting good nutrition including minimum goals of protein and water. It shouldn't be about feeling full.

    Calories, Calories, Calories...UGH!

Well, I'm 9 1/2 months post-op and down 201 lbs. I still consume mostly softer foods, Protein of about 80 grams a day and calories about 700 a day. I walk a brisk 5 miles six days a week and do about 300 push ups and 400 bicep curls ( with 5 lbs. 0 daily ). The equation is simple, keep calories low, work out alot and you will have success. Hunger is only in your mind now with the gift of by-pass surgery. Your trainer want to keep the job and if he/she senses that you want to eat more and implies that you should consume more, they win and if you gain some weight or fail to lose more, they win because you really need the trainer, Right ?

    New Year, Fresh Start

Hey everyone, its been awhile since I've been on the boards! I just wanted to share my story... I was banded September 2012. I learned pretty quickly how to eat (and drink!) "around" the band. I did not commit to an exercise routine, and have chosen mostly foods that I know will go down (carbs and lots of high-fat snack foods, mostly). As such, the only weight I have lost to date was due to the pre-op and post-op liquid diet. Now I have gained that back, and more. I have not been in for a fill adjustment since probably last Spring. Over the past year, I definitely have had some issues with what I believe is called "transference" - or turning to another addiction in absence of the ability to binge eat. For me, it was alcohol. I have always been a social drinker, but in August 2013 I ended up in a mental hospital after a drinking binge - the booze had interacted with the medications I take to help regulate my moods and I had become suicidal. I was in the hospital for 2 weeks, after which they wanted to send me to a 30-day rehab. I opted for an intensive outpatient program instead, which I attended for about 5 weeks before I relapsed. Since that relapse, I have continued to drink daily, with periods of heavy drinking interspersed. There is no doubt that the amount of liquid calories I consume has greatly impeded my weight loss attempts, though I have had no further bouts of deep depression since my hospitalization. I'm sharing all of this because with new year, I am making a new commitment to myself. I am going to try my best to do everything I need to do to help the band help me with reaching my weight loss goals. This includes scaling back the drinking (currently 24 hours sober!) and quitting smoking. Luckily, I am pretty well educated about band-life, as the one thing I did do right in the beginning was my research. But I believe the learning neve stops and I can always learn from others' experiences. Anyway, I have about 100lb to lose now and though I am not very confident, I am committed to at least doing the absolute best I can. Thanks for letting me share

    Why I love my band. . .

That is awesome! In recent years I have always needed a seatbelt extender. I just flew to California and on 3 of the 4 flights I fit great...even had some seat belt to spare But the last flight was on an older plane and I think the belts were smaller!!
