    Revision surgery done 5/28/20

Hi! I had my lapband out in Aug 2019 and Gastric Bypass end of December. I hit a stall at 2 1/2 weeks that lasted 3 weeks. It's very common - search 3 week stall. Yours may have started a little later but don't worry. Keep following your plan and you'll be fine. (BTW - 30 lbs in 5 weeks is amazing!) Lori
  2. If you're doing the sleeve and your work isn't super exertion like construction work or something, I'd say 2 weeks. You'll feel better right away, maybe a little tired, and you can't lift more than 10 pounds for 6 weeks, but otherwise you can probably return to work within 2 weeks.
  3. I was sleeved 2/10. I really didn't get hungry for the first few weeks. Now...I eat two oz of cream of wheat before I go to work. Around 11:30 or 12 I do feel hungry but it is never as stong as before. I can always pop a little protein in (a few bites of cheese, protein bar etc) and be fine till lunch around 1pm. You fill up pretty quick...it really is differant. Good luck
  4. wow you do look great how were able to be so successful please please tell me. I had my surgery May 08 and only dropped 23 lbs. 10/04/2009

    Insurance Request for Surgery...Huh? 4/6/10

So I logged in to see what's going on with my insurance claims & referrals today. I saw that there were four separate requests for surgeries rather than just one. So, do they have to spell out what they're asking for & cast a wide net by specifically requesting "bypass, v-band, rny, & LAP-BAND®"? Is that the way they do it? I really hope that's how it's s'posta go & one of 'em "sticks", although I really do not want one of the procedures that actually rearrange your guts - I just want my guts to be "belted" :scared2: As of a few minutes ago the status of all of 'em was "pending review". Crossing my fingers (and toes) that I'll get the thumbs-up...quickly! I hate the ups & downs of waiting, being hopeful, disappointed, frustrated, excited, etc. Guess I swapped out yo-yo dieting for yo-yo emotions Gotta *try* to stay positive & keep telling myself my new, healthy life *will* begin, and soon!

    Im APPROVED

Great news Melanie!! CONGRATULATIONS! Wow, $ 20 per visit is cheap! Ask them to send that to you in writing! You must have really great insurance! Mine sucks, so I decided to self-pay and had my surgery last week 10/10. Slowly but surely I'm feeling better. Where in TX do you live? And who's your Dr? sorry if I missed this info before, I'm a bit behind on reading posts lately. All the best,
  7. Today makes day 10 I had surgery on the 20th there is one that is bothering me as of today, so I'm going to call tomorrow to make sure they will be removing them Wednesday

    Weight loss between friends

She's jealous of your journey to a new you. Sure, she's lost 10 so far...she might even hit a nice 50 pound loss - but we all know that it's going to eventually come back. She has shown you that she isn't a true friend. You supported her through her troubled times which shows character, but she can't support you through your exciting journey? Nah. You're better off without her and in the words of the great Maya Angelou: "When someone shows you who they are, believe them."

    post-op scars

I had similar surgery 10 years ago for gall bladder and those scars are barely noticable. They are perfectly flat and look like lines of skin a little lighter than the skin around them. You wouldn't notice unless you looked. I put vitamin E oil (from inside a vitamin E capsule) a couple of times a week.

I had a GREAT workout last night, my DH & I went to the gym and I worked my upper body out. I worked it so hard, I felt like mush when I left. But it sure felt good to be back in the gym workout out like i used to do! I'm excited to be back in the program! I can't wait for 1 month from now, because I know if I am consistant, the results will start showing. Menu today Bfast 1/2 cup skim milk, grapenuts cereal (about 1/2 cup) Snack yogurt Lunch tomatoe soup (this is the last of my container, thank gawd, getting tired of it, but it is good) snack - handful of nuts Dinner 1/2 cup of beans & ham - yum Exercise 10:00 am - 15 min on elliptical 2:30 pm - 22 min of HIIT - burned 181 calories, and 1.71 distance Gym - my plan is go tonight and work my lower body - the abs are screaming for crunches!
  11. MrsGreaves. Not to sound gross but have you had a BM? In the beginning that can cause you to hold weight. 20 in the first week is amazing, I think I lost 10. I'm also stuck but I'm in week 4. I had to find a different Protein because I became very intolerant of the shakes. You've heard it before but I'll say it anyways: make sure you are getting your Water and protein in this healing phase too Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Sex is great again

I am 33 (34 in 19 days) and I know. I feel sexy again and I would have never thought that I would feel sexy again. And that is another reason why I LOVE MY SLEEVE!!!
  13. I've had tuna (4oz.) with Home made roasted peppers chopped up about the size of a pea...then took about 6 croutons cut them in half.. and would have the tuna with roasted pepper on top with a piece of the crouton..and it does not bother me. and i hear about liquids and mushy foods not being able to stay down, I'm not getting it can there be something wrong w/ my band? I feel like i can eat solids too i took a bite of my wife's pizza right after i finished my tuna and nothing..mind you I was banded 10 days ago.. in other words i don't feel like i have to blend anything..
  14. Ack! I seriously feel your frustration, kcg. I have lost about 30 lbs post op (all while starving), and had a fill last week that didn't do anything! I went into support group last night literally scowling because I'm actually pissed at my band that I am doing 150% of the work and it's not doing anything right now! I just want it to do it's job! Are you exercising? Doing cardio on a regular basis? I'd actually check with your nutritionist about doing any kind of diet while banded. I have heard some of these diets can do more harm than good, which is why the results are not typically long-term. Your next fill is 10 days away. Perhaps wait it out to see if the third time really is the charm and if not, you could talk to your surgeon and/or nutrition to get creative on how you can jump start the weight loss again? Please let us know what you decide. Hang in there!
  15. I was in BH for 4 months so 4 weeks is awful but not fatal. I still eat a snack around 10:30 and 3 pm every day. Usually it's an apple, jerkey, fruit, a few bites of tuna salad etc. That gets me to my next meal just fine. Yeah 1500 calories is a little too much if you want to lose but should be fine just to maintain. And at this stage, that's all they really expect you to achieve. Sounds like you've got it all under control so just keep doing what you're doing.

How big is your average fill?

I have a 10cc band. My fills were: 1.5 ccs, 1.5 ccs, 1.5 ccs, 2ccs So I am up to a total of 6.5 (did the math for you) and am just now feeling restriction, seriously didn't know what they were talking about for those first three fills. The thing is, everyone is different. It has to do with body physiology- the thickness of your stomach mainly. So you can't really go by what other people have. I am convinced that it is better to go slowly with fills - my doctor is pretty conservative but allows us to come in after 10 days if we don't think it was enough. I think smaller fills make it less likely you will get overfilled. Plus, each fill puts you in a different place and it takes a few days to get used to it, plus you can be tighter at first from swelling. There is a learning curve with the band so slower fills allows more time to adjust - both mentally and physically.
  17. Andrea, A couple years before being banded, I was following weight watchers and counting points ( not going to meetings, just doing it myself) it took me 10 months to lose thirty pounds, but I did learn a better sense of portion control. I tended to eat too much on weekends at that time, so I lost very slowly. I am also older, menopausal and not active at all, the last one is the one that makes me lose slowly. I also gained back 15 pounds of the thirty I had lost. At that point I knew I needed the band and fought to keep the remaining fifteen pounds off until I had surgery. It was just too hard to get it off, to put it all back on. So NO last supper syndrome before surgery for me! I have lost weight slowly but steadily except for a few weeks where I stalled a bit. I count my calories almost every day and track my Protein.( following the weight watchers for so long makes that a habit). Since being banded I've had one piece of pizza and I did not eat the crust. We were visiting people and that's what they served. I just keep food I know I shouldn't eat out of the house. I wait one hour after eating and then drink a bottle of Water after every meal and then another bottle later at night, so around four bottles a day. It's truly a combination of the head getting in sync with the band. For me, my eyes try to tell my stomach that the small amount I am eating isn't enough. But I eat the weight watcher portion and then stop and wait the hour and most times I can feel my stomach saying it's enough but I don't get that signal while I'm eating it. And I do get hungry again between meals. That's when the bottle of water helps! The other thing that helped me for the first couple months was FEAR! Fear of getting stuck etc. I don't have that fear too much right now, I pretty much know what goes down ok. But after each fill, the fear comes back as I retry food all over again. I've also had a lot of fills and after each one, I'm on liquids for a couple days and that helps me lose a pound or two. You've lost about the same amount of weight I have, so don't beat yourself up. You just have to get your brain/head to catch up to your band. Try starting with just one step like counting calories. And get those fills! Are you in our November group challenge?
  18. I wish I knew the answers to all your questions but i can answer the drinking and eating one! I was banded June 5 and have lost 28 lbs as of today, first fill yesterday. When I was about 3 weeks post op I could eat whatever with no restriction and was calling my dr begging for a fill, they said I had to wait 6 weeks. I cheated a lot but I never drank with my meals. I didnt want to get into a bad habit. That means I dont drink 15 to 30 minutes before and for 1 hour after. It doesnt really bother me so much except when I'm really thirsty then I'm counting the minutes almost. If you drink with your meal, the food will pass faster and you wont feel full as long. Now, I am not in the green zone or even close and the first week I drank out of little medicine cups after surgery but after that I started drinking normal. I dont drink any different than before. I usually do not use a straw- I still carry around my hospital cup that has a lid with only a slit in it so I dont spill. Sometimes i feel full I guess from drinking. I never had a preop diet so maybe I'm lucky? But I did it a lot right up till the day before my surgery actually. I'm not saying you should do that since your dr put a mandatory 10 lb weight loss goal for you. But a couple days of watching what you eat and not going too crazy shouldnt be too bad wouldnt think. Good luck! Its been an awesome journey for me so far, even with some frustration, I'm super excited!

    Leakage

I read that staple slippage from swelling can cause leakage and generally 10 days out chances of leakage minimize.

    Psych evaluation in the morning

My eval was pretty basic I answered about 1000+ questions about depression, suicide, healthy eating, support and addiction. Then I talked to the Dr. For about 10 mins he asked my highest weight, where my husband worked, if I knew I would look and feel different after the surgery and that's about it. Good luck everyone

    Dark scars

African American here. Only my largest scar is dark, but looking at my hysterectomy scars from 10 years ago, they will fade with time. I used Scarfade gel initially because I also tend to keloid. That helped fade them a little bit and also flattened them out. I now use virgin coconut oil on them. I had 5 or 6 incisions and only 2 are noticeable now and the big one is the most noticeable.
  22. I seem to be hungry every 4 hours or so. It's like I can eat 3 oz of cream soup but hungry again I'm a few hours. Do you get satisfied on the liquid diet?? ( 10 dpo.) Sent from my LG-H740 using BariatricPal mobile app
  23. My sister had gastric bypass surgery 10 Yeats ago and she told my that back then they didn't do the liquid diet pre-op. She said that it was a "last meal" diet. You weren't going to get to eat it anymore so this was your last chance to eat the fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy with peach cobbler for dessert, etc.

    Breakup Because I Had WLS

Wow. Good riddance I say. My husband lost 70 lbs taking a weekly injectible for diabetes before I had my surgery. I know he wanted me to lose weight too. I had the sleeve in Dec 2019, and lost 104 lbs in 12 months and am maintaining that weight eating and drinking what I want but in tiny portions. I eat healthier than I used to, but I definitely still eat things on occasion that I did not eat in the first year at all, and I had no alcohol for the first 12 months. I am lucky like that, he was very supportive and even did the shake diet with me in the beginning. He's a great cook and it was my love of his good cooking and my liking to eat that got me to 304 lbs in the first place. I ate it all willingly, but he cooks healthier for me now. After 30 years I can't imagine my life with out him. That guy wasn't the right one for you, be glad he helped you see that before he broke your heart or it cost you money.

    Advice For A Youngin

Thank you. Actually, I recovered faster from the bypass than the band. I felt it took longer on the recovery with the band. I am tired, but then I have a dog that will start getting me up early in the mornings like 5 AM, an I am a night owl, still up till about 3 AM (I work nights). So the interrupted sleep doesn't help. So far I am finding more energy than I had before this surgery. I do take four Bariatric fusion complete Vitamin and mineral supplements per day. But if I don't get enough Protein my energy level goes down and I do notice it. I will sleep longer on one of my days off, but then I also work a 10 hour shift the day before and only get, at the most, 5 hours of sleep before I have to go back into work that day. So overall, any tiredness isn't actually caused by the bypass but from my life style. For my age, which is only a number, I feel I'm doing quite well. Time will tell though. Recently had complete set of labs and nothing was said except for my blood sugars (I'm a diabetic) and they had come down but the surgeon would rather see them normal with no insulin. So he only wants me to have protein, nothing else . So to answer your question I would have to say "no" but I only had bypass 2 1/2 months ago, it could happen later. I'm actually more fearful of the lack of Iron from this procedure than anything else. I have read where people have to take iron supplements either orally, injection, and some even infusion (which is painful and long). But I wouldn't change anything, I had researched this procedure out and not sorry abit that I made this decision.
