    Another NSV

I was banded 1/19/07. I work in a state psychiatric hospital and we are required to renew our CPR certification every two years. Yesterday was my day. While I know knowing CPR is very important and it is required for my job, I have always hated it with a passion and dread when it is renewal time. I hate "performing" in front of people, I hate having to get down on the floor and manuevering around while doing the compressions and breaths. The last time I had it was 2/06 which was way before I started my lap band journey. Needless to say I have lost close to 100 pounds since the last time I took the class. It was a breeze. I was able to get down on the floor, manuever around and complete the compressions and breaths with ease. I was so shocked. In the past, I have always passed the class but would struggle trying to reach down to do the breaths in the mannequin & would be very nervous and stressed out throughout the whole experience. I was so nervous about taking the class yesterday that I never even thought about the possibility that things could be that different. I was so proud of myself. I think I no longer hate CPR!!

Don't feel dumb I have question about some of the initials like NSV and some others I see
  3. I thought I would share the latest non scale victory that I 've had. Yesterday I bought my very first pair of Victoria's Secret panties and they fit!!! This is a huge thing for me. Another first step towards normalcy. Being able to buy something in a regular ( not Plus size) store in a regular size! I know this is just a little thing but it has made me so happy. I've envied my smaller friends for years over something as simple as panties and now I can do it too! Does anyone else have a NSV they would like to share?

    Wow! An NSV

I went to the hospital on Saturday because I was in horrible pain with my eye and I knew it had ulcerated and wasnt just the ordinary corneal erosions I get. In the course of routine I had my pulse and blood pressure checked - my pulse was 58 beats per minute and my blood pressure was 110/70. Wowee - I've never had a blood pressure problem but it was 130/80 when I started this journey and my pulse 72. So losing half my weight and all this running I've been doing is doing fantastic things! You notice it in how you feel of course, but detail freak that I am I love to see it in numbers.

I am sorry you feel like that. I am still considered fat but I am able to wear clothes off the rack so that is a NSV

    My biggest NSV yet!

In the not too distant future, you are really going to confuse the kid who calls you "skinny B!*" when you break into a grin and say "yup!" Great job on the NSV.

    NSV !'

@@Kumbaice -- When you wake up tomorrow with some soreness and maybe with bruises, enjoy them. These will be the most delicious pains of your life. @@Flora Anderson -- Anything physical, no matter how ordinary, that you couldn't do quite so easily or at all before surgery most definitely is an NSV. Don't cheat yourself out of any of them.
  10. Well I scheduled my sleeve surgery for October 24th. Im a mixture of excited and scared. I feel like I've been waiting for this for so long. I just want to be healthy for my kids and myself. If anyone wants to comment about their experiences with the surgery and their life since then I would love to read them. Some photos and NSV are welcome too. Lol. 15. Before surgery I was a candy JUNKIE. I would frequently not eat all day then eat an ENTIRE bag (like most by for Halloween) in one sitting. Gross, right?! So I saw a post on here from someone who said they ate one lindt truffle every night & I thought to myself "what a great idea!" So my husband bought some & I couldn't wait to have one. My plan was to have one a couple hours after my dinner. So, I ate a pretty standard snack of strawberries & when we were getting in bed my husband asked if I'd enjoyed my treat. And HOLY S@*#BALLS!! I'd FORGOTTEN to eat it!!! Jazz shocked! So I decided to enjoy it the next night & I FORGOT AGAIN!!!!! This would have been unheard of 6 weeks ago...I would have looked forward to eating the whole bag all day. Unbelievable! Yaaaaaay!!

    Huge NSV

Sorry, this is going to be long winded... For 10 years I worked at an apple orchard in Michigan. It was like a second home to me, and the people I worked with were like family. When I married 8 years ago, I moved away to CA for a short time and promptly gained 60 lbs. Then, after having kids I gained 35 more. I've been back in Michigan for 7 years now, and every year I have come up with an excuse not to go back to visit. I remember once (this was probably 10 years ago) my sister came in to visit me at work. She had gained about 20 lbs in college and was probably at about 180 lbs. My manager, Marie, said "your sister is HUGE!!!" after she left. I was mortified on her behalf, and a little shocked that she would say that to me about my sister. That experience really stuck with me. I felt that I couldn't go back there as heavy as I was. It didn't help matters that my ex-boyfriend also works there. This is obviously a seasonal place (they close at Christmas), and every Christmas for the last 7 years I've been telling myself that I would go back to visit after I lose some weight. Every year I would obsess about it and worry about it and talk myself into waiting one more year. Today, I went in to see everybody. At 225, I'm far away from where I want to be, but I just felt that I couldn't wait any longer. Man, I was a nervous wreck! It was so nice to catch up with everybody and show off my daughter (who was surprisingly good while we chatted). I could tell they were wondering why I hadn't come back, but thankfully nobody asked. I'm so relieved - I feel like a huge weight has been lifted (pun intended). I wish I had just gone in years ago. On the way home I was thinking about the other people in my life that I have pushed away over the years. I put my life on hold to lose this weight. Soooooo stupid. This NSV doesn't have much to do with my weight loss - it's more of a mental realization that I don't have to hide away and be ashamed anymore. In reality, I never should have felt that way. I'm glad that I've regained some confidence, and I know it's just going to get better. To all of my weight loss buddies, I say, don't let life pass you by another day. Happy holidays!

    Swiming

speaking of swimming, (slightly off topic), I don't float half as well as I used too! It should have been a no brainer, but I nearly choked myself as I flailed about in the pool during my first dip this year. I used to be able to float from my mid chest upward in a 'standing' position in my pool, now I have to paddle to barely get my shoulders above water in the same position! I would call it an NSV, but dang, I really used to like the way I could float so well! Lol, the dang sacrifices we must endure!
  20. I am a good cook and as the self-appointed matriarch of the family have always loved to put on big family dinners. Some of my major concerns pre-surgery were that I might somehow develop an aversion to food or the smell of food, and that I might no longer like or want to keep up the family dinner traditions given that I would be limited in partaking thereof. Along comes Mother's Day, 8 weeks out... We traditionally have the first big cookout of the year on Mother's Day, with all the kids and grandkids in attendance. We prepared the traditonal list of grilled goodies, such as cheeseburgers, hot dogs, brats with all the fixins' such as chili sauce, kraut, corn on the cob, mac & cheese, baked Beans, and most glorious of all... two homemade New York cheesecakes with raspberry coulis!! So darn good!! The Victory is that I enjoyed cooking and serving just as much as I ever did. I ate a bite or two or most things (skipped the corn on the cob and the green salad, and left off the buns), including the cheesecake. It was a major relief to sail through the first event and still feel normal! Looks like Thanksgiving is still a go! No one commented on the small amount I ate, but they did notice the weight loss!
  21. I've been googling what things mean such as onederland and NSV... I thought there might be a FAQ somewhere here that I could reference, but I can't find it. Any help?
  22. I admire runners. So sleek and dedicated. Congrats on your NSV & for your transformation. Best wishes for your continued success
  23. I was sleeved 8/8/11 so it's been almost 6 weeks. The scale hasn't been my friend too often but let me tell you what happened today. Well of course after surgery I began walking in the hospital. They said it would help me heal and relieve my gas. It did. I continued walking at home on our treadmill because I want to be healthy and active. So here's the great part.... My hubby and I went to a state park today and walked a 3 MILE trail with our dog. And this trail was rated "moderate", not "easy". well... I kicked *ss on this trail!! I was so awesome my hubby couldn't even keep up with me! Even the dog was tired when we were done (11 month old Pitt). Two months ago I would have NEVER been able to do that. I'm so proud of myself and I LOVE MY SLEEVE!! Who has a great NSV for this week?
  24. Hi, I am not sleeved quite yet (hopefully beginning of year). I am really looking forward to wearing high heels. I really have always been overwieght and never mastered that. Are heels a lot different after losing weight. I want to wear a belt at least once also. Also, in the past , on many unsuccessful diets, I would try jogging. I was miserable at it and never could go more than 15-30 seconds at a time, without almost dying. It has never felt like I have imagined it, I can not wait. Can anyone tell me how it feels to do these two things now? I have so many NSV's that I am looking forward to experiencing. What NSV's are/or were all of you looking forward to? Thank you.
  25. As of yesterday, I am down 25 lbs and could get into some cute capris that were way too tight before surgery (3/27). Today I put on my pants for church and they are loose now too. Makes not having the Easter candy so worth it!
