    Slow Losers Club…..officially *sigh*

Just do what I do to keep my humour up when stalls hit: I give each one a name, like cyclones/hurricanes get names. That way I can shout things like "Oh for god's sake Beryl are you still here?!"

    Slow Losers Club…..officially *sigh*

That is crazy! But oh so real. Thank you so much for validating me hat I was feeling. I definitely want to have a realistic, safe WL experience. It feels great to know that this is actually the norm nothing to see here lol I’m definitely going to give the scale a break and weigh in every couple weeks. Wonderful advice. I do FEEL amazing and I can tell in my clothes things are changing. And I also feel like my body is going to have frequent stalls. I guess it’s not something to try to avoid or dread just live in it as part of the journey and accept it for what it is knowing it will pass. Congratulations on your weight loss as well I do hope to lose 1/2 my excess weight by 7 months as well!

    Slow Losers Club…..officially *sigh*

Hi, official card carrying member of the SLC here! You're losing at about 1.2kg a week, which is around what my average weekly loss has been. First up, that is good weight loss! It's nothing to be discouraged about, that is a healthy, good rate. It's easy to buy into the rapid-loss dream, and I absolutely don't begrudge folks who have had their "honeymoon period" and had weight "melt off" - genuinely thrilled for you! But I think it's vital to go into WLS managing your expectations (with rate of loss, loose skin and hair loss). I went into it pretty zen, though I have had my perfectly human moments of wishing I was losing faster. BUT, I'm losing well, about 7 months out and have lost over half my excess body weight and have dropped 4 sizes. Results aren't always on the scale - it's important to remember that! I'm not just a slow loser, but I'm also a serial staller. I have lost count of how many stalls I've had - stalls and I are on a first-name basis. In the first four months I was stalling every second week, for at least a week at a time. I feel like I earned a damned trophy for my stalling expertise. But they always break (even if they go on for weeks), and that's what you need to keep in mind. Stay off the scale when it happens, focus on the good things like feeling better, clearer skin, the clothes that are starting to fall off you. And ultimately? You're not alone. Your experience isn't weird, or wrong, or abnormal. Don't compare yourself to others, manage your expectations, slow down and breathe. Enjoy all the small victories the journey brings.

Messing up my pre-op diet 😩

Thanks for all the good tips, I’m going to meal prep the rest of this week and hopefully that will make it a little easier. @liveaboard15 yeah that’s a lot of money!! I would hate to pay that and not be able to get it. Did anyone else get a really bad headache? I’m thinking I could be dehydrated. 🤷🏾‍♀️
  5. Hi guys! I’m officially 6 weeks post VSG. When I started the Kaiser Program in June 2021 I was 330Lbs. I’m a female early 40’s. Surgery day 2/28 I weighed in at 290. Today I’m at 273lbs. I heard a lot about slow losers on this forum and I think I’m in that category but maybe you guys can confirm. I enter the regular food phase on Monday which is the day I go to work. I moderately workout 3 Times a week. Mostly in the pool because I have osteoarthritis in my knees that keep me from running, squatting or movement exercises. I eat no more than 700-800 calories currently. I get my protein, water, low carbs in. Make good food choices in my carbs & starches. if you are a slow loser how has your journey been? And did you have a lot of stalls in between? I’m trying not to get discouraged.

Messing up my pre-op diet 😩

you guys are lucky. I could have 4-5 protein shakes a day, all the no-calorie, noncaffeinated liquids I wanted, a cup of tomato juice/V8 and a cup of broth, plus unlimited sugar free popsicles and sugar free Jello. No solid food at all. For two weeks. I ate sugar free Jello with abandon because it was the only thing I could have that somewhat resembled real food. I'd make a batch in the morning and eat the whole darn thing that day. I never once cheated on it, but boy---it wasn't easy. It did get a little easier after about three days because my body was in ketosis by then, but still - it was a struggle.

Messing up my pre-op diet 😩

Yes i am getting sleeve surgery on April 18th. My pre op diet is 5 protein shakes a day. We are allowed to eat 1 very small meal a day if the hunger gets bad. 2-3 oz Lean meat like chicken, fish (baked or grilled), non starchy veggies 3-4 oz, and snacks like cottage cheese, non fat greek yogurt is allowed but limited. They prefer only the protein shakes but give us that other option

Messing up my pre-op diet 😩

Hey. Thanks for the share. How are you eating while food? Are you getting the sleeve surgery? I am on a full clear liquid diet with 3 shakes, jello, broth and sugar free drinks.
  9. One week down and 6 days to go! Prior to this, I thought it was going to be much more difficult. I have been counteracting my cravings for pizza, hot wings and Indian food, with researching ideas to make the meals I crave more "bariatric sleeve friendly". I am working out recipes and ingredients, waiting for the day I can eat whole food again. I have been able to still cook meal for my kids and I find myself making healthier choices in what I serve them. I told my wife "How can we both be eating healthier and still feed the kids chicken nuggets and fries". She agreed. This transformation will not only benefit me, but the whole family! The most difficultly I am experiencing now is trying not to fart. It's never dry and I had to wash out a pair of underwear and some shorts, while in the shower. This is the "SHARD" part.

Messing up my pre-op diet 😩

Dont order anything. Stick to your diet... Its just 2 weeks. I am right there with you. Today is day 5 for me for my preop diet for 2 weeks. Its been horrible but manageable. I stick to 4 protein shakes a day and in the afternoon i have a 4oz piece of sockeye salmon with 3oz of veggies. That little meal helps a ton and its super healthy. Trust me i have been tempted hard to go to chick fil a and order a few chicken sandwiches lol. But surgery is right around the corner. Cant fail. especially me having paid $18K two weeks ago for this surgery. Worst thing that happens is they get you to the operating table, Open you up and see your liver is still huge and close you right back up. the whole purpose of this diet is to shrink that liver.
  11. Hello to all of the April surgery buddies. I have been looking at this forum for a few weeks now and finally decided to create an account. I had to complete a 2 week liquid only diet. The first 3 days were awful but after I was able to make it through. I had the gastric sleeve and a hiatal hernia repair on April 5th. So I am 3 days post op. I feel better today than I was day 1 post op. I've been getting in about 55 ounces of fluids (water), and 50 grams of protein (shakes) in thus far. The trick is that I have to start sipping around 6am to reach this goal by 11:00pm Currently, I'm still experiencing gas pains and I get spasms in my stomach when I drink anything cold. So everyday I'm learning something new with my new stomach. I have my first follow up appointment next week and I can't wait to move to soft foods stage. I am sooooo over the sweet taste. For those of you who are now post op, how are you holding up? Do you still feel bloated, and are you able to tolerate cold liquids? I look forward to hearing from you all soon.

    Protein shake

This thread is everything!!!! My surgery is in 3 1/2 weeks, and I have to do 1 week pre op diet so I'm actively looking for protein shakes and liquids. Very happy to hear there's some good ones.

The struggle is real... mine was on 3/29. The energy level fluctuates so much with crazy dips. Just keep trucking, try taking short walks or even just doing circles around the house. I've also found switching up the liquids helps a bunch... mainly because it's like oh yum, beef broth instead of chicken broth. Just a few things that I've found to be positive in my energy.

    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

Happy Friday!!!!! I hope the april surgeries who went this week OR today are are on the mend and doing well! I am apparently going to get a CPAP as I received a call from the CPAP Home person today and she said that my doctor had just ordered it. She said she will be in contact with me regarding when it can be picked up.🤷‍♀️ I spoke with the Personal Nurse Advocate on Wednesday. She was nice, but didn't have anymore information at this point than I do. 🤷‍♀️ She and I had a good long laugh at the fact that it was quite obvious my surgery would NOT be Monday, 4/11. 🤷‍♀️ She told me she would put in a call to the surgeon's practice and find out what was going on. THIS is what's going on: I'm getting a CPAP machine. 🤷‍♀️ Oh, and I haven't heard back from the PNA yet. 🤷‍♀️ I am now thinking that it might be a good idea for me to look into surgery mid-June when school ends. I know I am having a hernia repair and RNY, and in light of those facts, i'm thinking that more time to recover would likely be smarter than less time. My husband agrees. Lots of shrugging in this post...🤷‍♀️...I did everything I could to have this happen on Monday, but it's just not to be. Time to get the house cleaned to within an inch of its life, and just wait. It's all good. Wishing everyone a restful weekend!

    Portion control

You will almost certainly need to meet with a nutritionist/dietician. They will be able to give you all sorts of advice. But you can also check out a textbook on nutrition from the library. Just make sure it's a text book, not some fad book. Get yourself a food scale that measures in grams and ounces. 4 ounces of meat/fish is a serving. Restaurants will advertise a 12 or 16 oz steak - that is 3-4 servings! Read the nutrition facts on the food you are eating: a serving of cheese is one oz. Weigh out one once (28g) of cheese (or chips, if you must) and see how much you are used to eating. Pick up your fork to take a bite then put down the fork until you have completely finished chewing and swallowing the mouthful of food. Take smaller bites: like the size of the top half of your thumb (they will need to be even smaller after surgery. If you are choking, you're either not chewing enough or you're eating too fast. SLOW DOWN! No one is going to take your food away from you! Start counting calories using an app like MyFitnessPal

  20. SleeverSk That was beautiful i am impressed with you i felt a little bit like that when i had BOTH HIPS replaced i went through so much emotionally that i ( 10 yrs, in recovery for alcoholism) i sat in my recliner and ate morphine like they were candy because i didn't want to "FEEL" so i numbed my feelings for weeks and then i ran out of pain meds and all the feelings i numbed came flooding back and let me just say i was a mess the morphine was gone they were no longer delivering them to my house and i was " on the pity pot for at least 3 weeks and wanted to die because i still had no meds and no one wanted to help me aside from my wife who anyway i was able to get my shi*t together and take the meds like they were prescribed , my life got better and i got better and if you feel like you won't get better you're wrong I'm telling you, you will it's all part of the process be gentle with yourself you deserve to be happy and deserve to be loved even though you may not feel it now theyll come a day you will look back and say " all the kicking and screaming i got through it " youre stronger then you think , so keep your head up you are so worth it. Price of diet?

You will be eating a LOT less after surgery, so you will save money in the end. BUT more importantly, your body is worth it. Reduce costs elsewhere in your life, don't sacrifice your nutrition (especially don't skip vitamins - if you the Pro-Care health one a day it's like a dollar a day - you're WORTH IT!!!!). I know that for some people a $3 protein drink (the cost of a core power at a 7-11) is expensive, but so many of us are used to spending more than that on a breakfast sandwich. You will probably only drink one protein shake a day after the first month, and eventually you might not drink any. You will have to try different brands. For me personally, I can't tolerate the powders and buy only the premade shakes. I like the Fairlife core power chocolate (tastes like chocolate milk!) and they are available a lot of places.

    FUPA

Like most surgeries, my first three days were rough. I did make myself start walking right away. First day wasn’t much, maybe a block or so. I slowly increased every day. I’ve always felt gentle exercise helps me with pain control, plus it’s good for prevention of post op complications like blood clots and pneumonia. By week three I was back to work full time as a nurse.

Day 4 pre op liquid diet

Thank you for posting this!!! I was looking for some tried and true options. I have to do a week of pre op liquid diet and then of course post op. Every company says theirs is the best, so to hear from ladies who actually tried some and have real opinions is super helpful.

    May 2022 surgery?

I'm 3 1/2 weeks away from my surgery and I'm SO EXCITED!!!!! I'm not nervous at all. Is that weird? I was a little worried about the gas pain afterwards but I had my gallbladder removed in 97 and they had to inflate my stomach with gas then, too, and I didn't have any gas pain (it was mostly discomfort from the 4 lap scars). Not super excited about the large possibility of major hair shedding, but that didn't happen with any of the other surgeries I had in the past. I also have PCOS, so I'm used to my hair shedding. I have thick hair, so nobody ever notices. And I'm making sure I have plenty of moisturizer for my skin because I've been hearing the surgery can make your skin drier and itchy, and I already deal with that. I don't want it to get worse. But even with that stuff, I'm not nervous or scared. I'm excited and READY!!!!!
