My New PCP Claims That He Is Banded !

I too eat what I want, within reason. I don't count calories. I just eyeball it, exercise a little, & manage to maintain my goal weight. I also got the band to change my relationship with food and no longer be a slave to dieting. Goal achieved. I am at my goal weight after a little over 2 years being banded. Love it! Am going for my tummy tuck next month by the same surgeon who did my band I loved him so much. I am glad you are leaving that PCP, he sounds like a fool to me. Good luck and yes, my doc also says low and slow is the way to go. Dr. Titus Duncan in Atlanta a pioneer in the Lap-Band field.
  3. I met my new PCP today. (THIS WILL BE SHORT LIVED !) He claims he is Banded, and it doesn't work ! His reason is because "HE EATS WHAT HE WANTS !!!!" What do we all try to do on this site ? Count Calories More Protein then Carbs. Stick to a plan ! That's a start, Am I right ! So I told him that I do about 1200 Calories a day. He said for my weight, I should lose 6Lbs. a week ! (My Eyes about Fell out of my Face when I heard this. I thought where were you Banded at ? 1-2Lbs a week is the Norm., cause this is a s l o w go.) So he thinks he will Monitor my weight loss. Then he told me to Maintain my current weight, I could eat 3000 calories a day, and not gain a pound ! I Laughed, and he said that's to Maintain it I said ! O.K.... I think he was Fascinated that I have the Band, he kept bringing it up. Where was it done who takes care of it,, when will you see them again ? Never asked me the size though. My old surgeon said "NO MORE THEN 1 1/2 Lbs a week in loss. That's about where it is now, but it still coming off.. Sure, I would like to see more but, it took time coming on, it will take time coming off. His weight Loss was UNREAL !!! To Maintain my weight was OUT OF SITE !! I new he was full of something. He does not add up with his thinking. So ADIOS DR. DOMINGAS. I'm movin on to someone else. The good thing was I dropped 5Lbs. I'll take that over his advice... :tea:

    Hiding the scale!

Yes! I had my husband do the same thing. There are other ways to judge if you're losing weight - take pictures and take your measurements. That's a good indicator when you're not seeing the scale move! Best of luck to you
  5. Hi, I am on my 8th day and per my doctors plan ..I should be on pureeed or minced food for days 10-14 than soft foods....So I think you are fine... People seem to think you will cause major harm if you eat but I rarely think that's the case..Surgeon are aware it will happen being they are dealing with people who are suffering with weight issues lol.,,,NO harm intended ...BEST OF LUCK...I also was banded and had it removed during my VSG surgery.I didn't have good luck with band

    Pilates Modified

I Ihave started this Pilates yoga excercise class. Never imagined I could do it. After a year, I'm ready to jump into this with both feet. Finally can move instead of waddle...yes like a duck. Embrace and take advantage of the weight loss and freedom in movement.

I AM 82 LBS DOWN AND STILL LOOK THE SAME

Some people myself included can drop an immense amount of weight and only lose say 1-2 sizes tops. We carry the weight VERY differently than most people and its no big deal. I am a very tall person and I know my body doesn't look like it weighs as much as I do, but I can easily drop 100 pounds and still wear the same size.

I AM 82 LBS DOWN AND STILL LOOK THE SAME

You are actually normal in your weight loss surgery. this is the average that I have seen, read about, and experienced myself....You are doing great so keep it up. Remember, you are not a slow loser........

    Weight loss stall

Stalls are VERY common. You are losing more quickly than I did. It's taken me 6 months to lose 101 lbs, and I have had to learn to live with stalls. My longest stall was 3 weeks. I didn't gain or lose even 1 lb. I have had 3 stalls over the past 6 months. They are usually followed by a dramatic loss week on the scale. Once I lost a clothing size during a stall but no weight. Just keep doing your program...get in your protein, avoid simple carbs, drink your water, exercise & the scale will eventually catch up. Keep up the awesome work!

    11 Weeks out...

Hey everyone, I think I am going thru a funk. I am 11 weeks out as of today. I am very excited with my weight loss. I am down 60 pounds as of this morning. I am just having a hard time with the social part of not really eating. I have found that I am never asked to go out to lunch anymore and we never go out to dinner. I really miss the this! Will this change as time goes on? I am really tired of eating my Soup at my desk by myself everyday (
  11. Finally am going to get my revision which I am really excited about but not quite sure what to say at work. I feel so shameful, I know I shouldn't, but do I tell the truth or make up something?? It will be over 2 week Christmas break but I will be gone a few days before and then more? I think it might have something to do with how I failed to lose weight with the band......so what if this also fails or something happens. Thanks!
  12. Good morning everyone! At least it's morning here in California. I have some exciting news to share. I am a week from being seven months out and this weigh day marked my 100 pound weight loss. I am down to 167 pounds and 33.5 inches all around my body, I have lost 10 pant sizes, I'm starting to get muscle tone now, and what I'm super excited about- I FIT ON ROLLER COASTERS AGAIN! Tell me something you were excited about when you hit One-derland, or what you hope to do once you get there.
  13. Hi all... Can anyone recommend a plastic surgeon in Manhattan? After nearly 2 years and plenty of hard work, I'm down a little more than 100 pounds and thinking it's time to consider an abdominoplasty and perhaps an inner thigh lift. For better or worse, there are plenty of plastic surgeons to choose from in New York City. The problem: which one to choose. I'm aware of local surgeons like Dr. Schulman who specialize in treating weight loss patients. But I do think it's important to consult with multiple doctors and compare their techniques and patients' outcomes. If you've had a procedure done and have a recommendation, please let me know. Thanks in advance for your help.
  14. Yes I agree you look very, very nice! I have a9 question to ask you & please I hope you wont take this the wrong way but how did you keep your arms looking so firm? I mean you lost a lot of weight & you dont have the usual flabby skin! Whats your secret? Im scheduled to have my surgery on Aug. 16th & Ive been working really hard to firm up my arms! I call them my wings! I work out @ the gym 3x a week doing water aerobics that includes using water weights but as I starting loose weight my arms & thighs got all wrinkly & flabby! So I started including the weight machines. You see I was orginally scheduled to have my surgery Nov 1st but some cancellations took place & I was moved up today to August so I dont have much time left to firm up more b4 surgery[emoji53]. Do you have any suggestions? Sent from my SM-T530NU using BariatricPal mobile app

    how could this possibly be?

It's a fluke, I'm sure. How much 'gain' are you talking about here?

    I am so frustrated!

Your body is busy doing lots of things--losing FAT may be among them, but sometimes that doesn't show up on the scale. Your incisions are tiny, but there is more trauma than visible to your eye; there is tissue swelling and Fluid retention. The weight will come off--truly. Even as your weight holds steady right now, your body is likely losing fat. The scale just doesn't tell the whole story.

    I am so frustrated!

I am right there with you as far as frustration goes! I lost 15 pounds during the 2 week pre-op liquid diet, then gained 13 pounds in 2 days while in the hospital having the surgery. I have lost all of that, and only one pound more! I have seriously eaten less than 500 calories per day, mostly liquids. I was banded on 6/14/10 and I am getting very disgusted. My first post-op appt. is tomorrow so we shall see if this is normal or not. I even sat and watched my entire family celebrate my birthday with food and cake and I didn't eat one bite!
  19. Well, I had one or two thoughts of "why did I do this to myself?" in the first couple of days post-op, when I was feeling pretty lousy (nauseous, in pain, etc.) but since I had read beforehand that this was pretty normal, I managed to get over them quite quickly. Since then - NO WAY! I love, love, love my sleeve! Now I'm not going to say that I haven't had any issues as a result of the surgery. I sometimes end up with food stuck in my sleeve if I eat too fast or too much (I really try to eat according to the new rules, but sometimes slip up) and then end up throwing it up so I don't stay uncomfortable for hours and hours. I have a hard time swallowing large vitamin pills. It's not always easy to get in enough protein and liquids. But these are all minor issues compared to the big one (no pun intended), which is, obviously, my weight. That makes me happy enough to easily ignore all the minor issues I have to deal with - especially knowing that this is weight that I will hopefully never put on again.

    Hair loss

Your hair falls out anyway. Really not much you can do about it. It's the weight loss from extreme drop in calories and anesthesia. Docs shouldn't tell their patient it won't happen if you do such and such cause it happens to everyone.

    thinking about it

I am a nurse too, I used to do 7-12 hour shifts in a row and then I was off for a week. So I relate to your question. If you read through the forum you'll find a wealth of information. Eating at regular hours is not really an issue, you can always grab a piece of cheese or a Protein bar if you are hungry. Weight loss will significantly improve comorbidities. sleep apnea seems to go away from what most here write. Diabetes typically goes into remission, labs improve. Most of all being a nurse and walking around for 12 hours is MUCH easier after weight loss! Research, read, study, find everything you can. Research various WLS types, doctors, obesity studies, the works. Leave nothing out. Just know what you are getting into so you can be prepared to get this done. ANY WLS type is going to be tough, it's hard losing weight. I can't do it the traditional way, it's just too hard. No self control.... call it what you will. I still can't do it. Banding is hard but it's the kind of hard we can do, our population. It makes weight loss possible for the first time ever. I understand your issues related to food/meals/nursing. If I can help please let me know.

    Unsure!

If you've been fighting your weight for 26 years, you've already proven you can't do it on your own. There is no shame in admitting that and trying something that has a higher % chance of working. After all, trying the same thing over and over again expecting a different result is not logical. OTOH, if you are hesitating because the lapband doesn't make sense for you, then don't let us talk you into it.
  23. I have this through the state of PA, w/ the insurance I have (unison) it says something along the lines of they don't assist w/ weight loss. i was wondering if it was medically neccisary if they would cover it.

    First Steps...

Ok, so this is my first blog entry. My wife and I are going thru this together, and for me, losing weight is more than just a should do, it's a HAVE TO do. I have been overweight as far back as I can remember, and my highest known weight is 431(when I get to my goal, I am thinking of getting a tattoo of the number 431 with a line thru it). At 35, I am so used to being heavy, that I really find it nearly impossible to picture myself lighter, which makes it harder to motivate myself. So I take my motivation from two sources: My wife and daughters, who inspire me to be healthy so I can be around as long as possible, and my family medical history, which is bleak, to put it mildly. So my wife was banded on 4-27, and I was banded on 5-8. I really have a hard time remembering that it has only been 1 week. I did the 2-week liquid diet, and at the start of that, I was at 385. According to the same scale this moring, I was 364. At first, my pain level was low, but the last few days have seemed worse. I especially hate not being able to sleep on my side. I know it's a long road still, but I'm ready to get on with it!

Why Do I fill so frustrated

Also, don't forget to check in with the tape measure. You could be losing inches and putting on muscle mass. But I have to agree with everyone else, YOU NEED TO EAT MORE. Which of course, causes me to giggle. Who would'a thunk that you need to eat more to lose weight?! Please check in with us!
