At that calorie level I am concerned you are not geting sufficient nutrition. Are you getting 3 oz of mushie protein per meal? Are you also having mushie veggies or smooth soups? I don't know of any doctors who give fills at 2 weeks more like 4-6. If you have not yet done so get a digital food scale. Makes weighing out your protein so much easier. For breakfast I recommend Greek yogurt which is higher in protein. Protein is what helps keep you full longer. You can use a hand blender if you want to mince up the fruit. During healing I just ate the yogurt. Now that I am able to eat solids I add half a scoop of vanilla protein powder, unflavored benefiber, splendra (Greek Yogurt is sour), 1/3 cup high protein Kashi Go Lean, couple walnuts (yes they have fat but it's a good fat and doctor recommended. And they add protein.).

What types of protein are you using? There are non-fat greek yogurts, low fat cottage cheese as well as protein shakes/bars are usually a good source with lower amounts of fats. Chicken and Fish are the better meats to eat for high protein/lower fat.

I must agree here. For Breakfast I have some greek yogurt, for lunch I have a little tuna with cottage cheese and for dinner it just depends...I'm consuming 800-1200 calories. so far so good.

I have chobani fruited yogurt for breakfast everyday. I add half a scoop vanilla whey Isolate protein, unflavored benefiber, splendra (Greek yogurt is sour), 1/3 cup high protein Kashi Go Lean, couple walnuts.

I was eating low fat yogurt and found that was a problem for me. Although I needed protien. I happily gave it up and noticed the difference. That means cheese is definitely out of my diet. I also take 2 stool softeners. Things seem to "going" okay now.

I got banded a little over a week ago and at the seven day mark, my doc says that it is okay to have mushies. Well, it seems as though everyone has a different definition of a "mushy". Some say its only oatmeal, soft eggs, yogurt, Soup, etc. Others say that it can be regular food, only blended. I'm still not sure of how much of each i'm supposed to be eating. For example, I ate a whole packet of oatmeal for Breakfast. Mind you, it took me about an hour and a half and having to re-heat like 3 times, but is this normal? Should I be hungry like this? I've made some extra finely chopped egg salad, but how much should I be eating at a sitting (in oz, as I don't have a measuring cup just those oz cups they gave me in the hospital. I don't want to stretch my pouch. I haven't thrown up or PB'd anything. Everything goes down. I have my follow-up appt in about a week and will definitely be mentioning my concerns, but in the meantime, i'm reaching out to my fellow Bandsters here. Thanks for all your help. PS ( i just made some baked salmon and green Beans that I would love to eat, both are really soft, but don't know if I should or how much):smile2:

I have been banded for a little over a month now (yay! 35lbs lost) and I have found whenever I am hungry even after I've eaten 3 small meals a day I would eat either string cheese or Greek yogurt. It has really helped me doing so because if I don't snack I'm afraid I would turn it into a buffet style meal. Willpower is key in this Chris (Banded 4-15-2016 @328lbs)

I could have low fat yogurt on my liquid diet. I added different flavor carb solution high Protein powders to the yogurt to give it taste. I made it through the 10 days! Donna

Banded 7/29 and able to eat mushies right away?
secondseconds posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all, I was banded Tuesday, 7/29. The first day, I was only able to eat liquids, but the second day and on I tried mushies and I was fine (cottage cheese, yogurt, pudding, soft Pasta, cheddar cheese, soft cooked chicken). I have been chewing a ton and not eating nearly the amount I did pre-band. I have lost 9 lbs so far. My question is: Is it normal to be able to eat these things so soon? I am feeling full quickly, but there is no pain associated with eating small amounts of these types of things. Could I potentially damage myself by eating like this? Any thoughts are appreciated! -
I love fruit. The first fruit I added back was watermelon. Just 1/4 cup. It's very low acid and for the first couple of months I was very sensitive to anything acidic. i also enjoyed adding a couple of frozen strawberries to Protein shakes or yogurt smoothies. The next fruits I ate were applesauce and bananas. Now that I'm further out I can eat any fruit I want. Just like everything else, I don't eat the amount I used to pre-op. For example, day before yesterday I had some frozen mixed berries in my yogurt at breakfast and for an after dinner snack I ate 1/2 orange. Lynda

Liquid Stage: What do you eat?
Margaret replied to Texasmom65's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had pudding, yogurt, tomato soup with melted cheese in it, and lots of protein shakes. I mixed peanut butter in them sometimes. I liked potato soup a lot. Memories! -

List of things to have on hand post-op?!?
Writerjennifer replied to meggo1111's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You're going to need clear (sugar free) liquids for the first few days. Like Jello, broths (beef, chicken and veggie), tea (decaff or caffiene free), etc. Then thicker liquids, things that will pour off a spoon, like thin Soups (no chunks). Then thicker soft foods, like Yogurt and puddings (both sugar free and fat free) and thicker soups (still no chunks) Then smashable foods, like flakey fish, soups with soft chunks that can be squished with a fork, chicken. shakes. For all phases after the clear liquid phase. And, if you get tired of the shake flavors, then you can get extracts and sugar free puddings and such to flavor them. Hope this helps. Good luck! -
I started my mushy stage yesterday and I've been cooking up a storm!!! I made Turkey Taco Chili, Cream of Zucchini Soup and Curried Chickpeas with Quinoa. I blended half and left half of the batches whole and froze it for the soft foods stage in a weeks time. I'm finding it hard to eat so far just because I'm simply not hungry (unlike the first week when I was getting pretty sick of clear soups). What a bizarre thing!!! A typical day has been a Protein Shake in the morning (takes me a long time to finish), 1-2 cups of mushy food and 1/2 cup of apple sauce or yogurt a day. I'm taking multi Vitamins and fibre supplements too. I've been eating out of a 1 cup bowl and baby spoon to re-train myself with these new portions. It takes me a while to eat too, another thing to get used to, haha! The first three days post op were pretty uncomfortable and I was in pain. Hurt to breathe, gas pain in my shoulders etc. I took tylenol, gravel and codeine days 1-7 but I'm just dealing with incision pain now (I was banded on Sept. 26th). I have a post op appointment with Dr. Woo next week. I have been able to sleep in my bed on my side for the past two nights but still have discomfort when I have to roll over or wake up on my stomach and when I'm showering. I haven't had any problems getting food stuck but I have also been chewing consciously and haven't been eating until I'm full... just the cup of food that fills my baby bowl and Im done, no if's and's or but's! The feeling of food passing through the band makes me very "aware" when I eat now, not painful or anything, I can just feel it so it reminds me to slow down and listen to my body. So far, so good! Hows everyone else doing?

Hoping To Get Back On Track.....
Skyvic replied to nomorejellybelly's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have to really take it slow after my fills, too. It takes me over two weeks to adjust. This may not be normal but it's a pattern for me. I don't usually do baby foods though. I will do cream of wheat, oatmeal, whey protein in soups, deviled ham or chicken, greek yogurt, ricotta cheese, as well as Isopure zero carb beverage. This gets me through those tough times. By third week I'm normally back on regular food: rotisserie chicken, chili, tilapia, and foods in smaller amount. Good luck ( some of those baby food fruits don't look half bad) -
Recipes- Sources For Fat,calorie Reduction/replacement
Mistywater35 posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am newly banded and about to start "Real Food" I have recently become VERY interested in making recipes lighter. Not really just following a low fat recipe but experimenting with regular recipes to see if they can be made in a overall reduced manner. Okay so I have a long history of the Low fat idea,(ie low fat cottage cheese, yogurt, cheeses) what I am looking for is a guide as to what can be substituted for the higher fat items in a recipe. Such as splenda for sugar. They are not created equal. (tried a Pumpkin Bar that came out like a Pumpkin sponge yesterday!) Long story short has anyone found good books, or online resources for such information? Thanks so much ! -

I'm feeling great today I'm 8 days post op and I woke up this morning suddenly feeling a little jump in my step. I must be pretty well healed up now. Today is my post op appt with my doctor in Dubai. I'm looking forward to asking him some questions including why I have such achiness around the front and back of my ribcage area. I have learned that I have to eat something right when I wake up so I don't feel so sluggish and icky in the morning. I was never like that before but it's necessary now. I just have some yogurt first thing. I found yoplait has a "baby" yogurt so I found that is nice a light and makes me feel better in the morning. Later I will go to "breakfast" with friends. I'll just have some soup. Thank goodness I have always been a soup freak! It makes this pureed diet thing not such a hard thing to handle  I have a friend that has done the same surgery (6 years ago) and she has been wonderful. Thank God for her and her advice! Take care everyone and have a nice day -
tammy throw the cigs out and hand the starbucks coffee over to me, and no one will get hurt! just jokin. i have been doing okay..eatting with my eyes....and my stomach has been wanting to poke my eyes out for a few days. i don't think that im over eatting on junk, but i can still eat like a 3 ounce chicken breast, a cup of veggies and tonight i had a yogurt, then a cup of ice cream...Sugar free ice cream, but none the less, ice cream. i had a fill ohhh two weeks ago...i don't know if its time for another or what, but i am good alllll day long while im working then at night, the red eye food demon starts to stir.....and then lashes out at things...not bad things, yogurt is okay, but i feel like i am able to eat too much. I do feel the restriction....I have not pb'ed or anything, had one mini half stuck.......I am exercising......and the weight is coming off....but I hope Im not doing something to slow down the loss progress....I should keep a diary of my food...but like many other things in my life, i start it and then flub it. I found a great site, dont know if it has been posted here..... www.fitday.com and they have an awesome program that you can enter in your food intake....I should start using it huh???? All righty, thanks for listening.. TTYL

A traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Just use smaller portions. One bigger meal is not going to hurt you. A day or two before go to Protein shakes to go in lighter. Turkey, steamed veggies, mashe potatoes, smaller portion of gravy. Have some yogurt, fruit and a relish tray, with some low fat cheeses on your table. Best wishes

This is kind of a touchy subject because there are those of us who don't believe in being too tight and those who love being really tight. I think liquids are fine for a few days, see if you loosen up a little. When you eat are you eating really small bites (dime size) and taking your time between bites? But, if it doesn't change I say go in for a slight unfill. You need to be able to eat because PBing and throwing up can lead to complications and band slippage. You can also consume a lot more calories in liquid. Also, it's just not healthy (in my opinion). I can eat most anything, I have no problems with any protien, bread, Pasta,... I don't eat a lot of things that are unhealthy except on rare occassions because I know that a diet with lots of these things is not going to be productive but when I want a slice of pizza... I can have one. I think if I could not eat solid food I would induldge in things like yogurt and icecream and anything that went down easy and really never be satisfied. The band should supply restriction but it is also there to help create satiety. Listen to your body, glad you called your doc. Best of Luck

New here and need some advice!!
Back2Petite replied to kellyoreed's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Read your own instructions and follow but here were mine. Thicker liquid (week 2) foods were protein shakes, low sodium cream of chicken, cream of mushroom soups, light yogurt, tomato soups, plus foods from week 1 such as broth. SF jello, koolaid, crystal light, juices diluted and SF, 2 quarts of water daily. -
Once healed my doctor does not want me using Protein shakes as meal replacement. The band is meant to work with solid food. A liquid does not keep you full, it washes right through the pouch into the big stomach. Because I have a long time between lunch and supper I do have a premade Protein shake on the way to the gym. It's premier brand that I buy at costco 160 calories for 30 grams of protein. Because the band tends to be tighter in the morning some people have a protein shake for breakfast. Because I have to leave really early in the morning I have a cup of hot coffee during my commute and then have a Greek yogurt for breakfast once I get to work. I have a fruited Chobani Greek yogurt mixed with half a scoop of Protein powder and unflavored Fiber powder, I add a couple walnuts and about a quarter cup of Kashi go lean high protein Cereal. The key to this is bringing the powder ingredients in 1 small container and the nuts and cereal in another.
