23 pounds in 2 months is very good loss in my opinion. You should average 1-2 pounds a week and that sounds right on track. Are you exercising? Are you taking measurements? Sometimes you stall for a few weeks and the loss begins again. Find other NSVs(non-scale victories) to keep you motivated. Some NSVs are getting off of certain medications, being able to wear a piece of clothing that hasn't fit in awhile, being able to climb stairs without stopping to catch your breath, etc. You get the idea. Sometimes it takes a few fills to get where you'd like to be restriction wise. Make sure you keep following all the banster rules, don't drink your calories and hopefully the weight loss will start up again. Hang in there and best of luck to you!

    NSV with Halloween Candy?

Honestly, my NSVs come when I turn down bread, but that doesn't really count because I can't eat the bread anyway. I've never been really tempted by candy or sweets.

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Oh and this isn't an NSV I earned, just error on some clothing maker's part.. When me and mom went clothing shopping a month or so ago (she wears 12/14..) there was this really cute shirt.. and the only size they had was 14/16, so mom got it and I was going to live vicariously through her hehe. Well, she finally tried it on, and it was way too big, didn't fit well at all. She was going to give it to my aunt (who is about a 14/16), but I said.. for giggles, let me try it!! So I put it on yesterday, fit *perfectly*. So, I wore a 14/16 yesterday! The sizing was way messed up (this was from Cato's). It's more like an 18/20 at the least...but still to say I put on a size 14/16 BUTTON UP shirt with no problems LOL! Felt good regardless. Never happened before in my life.
  5. And here approaches my first set of Holidays with the band. So far, I am being very good.. anyone else having NSV moments when they pass the unbelievable amount of Halloween candies and treats?? I deliberately don't walk down candy aisles anymore as not to tempt myself.. but when I go grocery shopping now, there they are EVERYWHERE. I walk by them several times, and I hear them whisper my name. But alas, I say NO TO YOU CANDY!! Anyone else having these proud moments? :car:

    Suggestions for dealing with family?

it's kind of fishing (well, not kind of), but next time you see them you could talk about your most recent NSV (Yay, I finally reached a size X, I haven't seen that since ___) and see if he says anything?

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

OK.. TRACYK.. read my lips... YOU GOTTA TELL US WHEN YOU LOSE WEIGHT... We're here to not only commiserate when we do something we know we shouldn't, but also to CELEBRATE when we do good things and you are doing GOOD things!!! So let us in on the celebration too, k??? That goes for all the Violet Sistahs!!! And CONGRATS on the 2.5#!!!!:clap2::clap2::clap2: Pamela.. take care of yourself and get better soon!!! Kat.. great pics!! We should all post some pics of us now so we don't have to squint at the Avatars to figure out what each of us looks like!! Laura.. I can relate to what you said. Yesterday I had a chicken salad wrap from Culvers and as I was chewing a bite in my mouth I could feel the previous mouthful getting stuck. So what do I do??? Spit out what I'm chewing?? And waste all that good food?? Heck no.. just swallow it and then walk around like a crazy woman trying to get the sucker to go down. I went to the bathroom so I could flap my arms and it eventually slid down, but dang.. old habits like eating too fast and taking big bites are sure hard to break!! I did have lots of NSV's at church today. I had LOTS of people comment on how much weight I've lost. Lots were asking what I was doing so I got to tell the lap band story. I'm getting quite good at it, actually. It starts out with... "in the beginning God created me and I got fat"... and ends up with..... "and then God created the lap band and said.. it is good". :biggrin1: When I turned on my cell phone a little bit ago (I had turned it off for the concerts and forgot to turn it back on), I had a voice mail from someone saying they heard I had lapband surgery and would I be willing to talk to them about it. Willing???? Heck, I need to write a book!!! I LOVE telling the lapband story. Jennifur.. so glad your burn is better. You're lucky you got it taken care of before it got out of control. And you keep that good attitude about yourself. YOU and your kids are what matters and that jerk.. 'scuse me..... needs to own up to his obligations!!! Ms. Jen.... you have a great attitude now.. keep building on that!!! We all need to take lessons from you! Michelle.. I've been there, done that with redoing the whole house before company comes. Don't wear yourself out to the point of getting exhausted!! You want to be able to enjoy your company while they're there, ya know! Terry... I fill up two DejaVue bottles with Crystal light each morning. I know when I have drunk them both I have had 66 oz. of water. I put one in the freezer before breakfast and one before lunch. That way I can take them out an hour later and they are pretty slushy.. just the way I love them. I have never, ever drunk this much water in my life!!! Thank goodness for Crystal Light. I'm going to go and wait for Bob to get home from his church. Then we'll have to figure out lunch. And then it will be time for a nice longgggggggggggggggggggggg nap! Everyone have a great day!!
  9. Judy-I am glad that your concert went well! Congrats on the 1 lb. I think all of us may have learned what not to do from your cruise experience! But in good ol Judy fashion, you are getting the pounds back off....I knew you would! YAY YOU! Pamela-I hope that you feel better soon! Sounds like you and your neices & nephews had fun though! MsJen-Wow, how great it was to read how much you are in love with you! It is so refreshing to hear people say that. I am starting to love me too! it is a great feeling. Jennifur-I agree with everything MsJen said. How is your aunt? Kat-no my sister does not own a shop....she and her dh work, they have no kids and she is able to spoil herself. She is one of those marathon shoppers. I do not like to go with her because it is an all day affair. She can wear out a 3 year old when it comes to shopping! I would be your sister and pass things along, but lucky for you, my stuff would be way to big for you!! Terri-the necklace you described sounds like it is beautiful. I wish I had the time & patience to do that! tracyKS-sorry about the gain, but it will come back off in no time...you are a violet!! Besides, you are turning mens heads, remember? That NSV alone will be what gets the 2 pounds and even more off!! So, yesterday I lost my everloving mind. For a split second, I literally forgot about the band....I mean FORGOT! I was walking through the kitchen, saw my DD mini chocolate donuts, opened the bag and stuck a whole one in my mouth and chewed it up and swallowed it in one big gulp and then thought...OMG!!!!! The chest pains immediately started and that is when I realied what I did....Every since I was banded I have been diligent in what I stick in my mouth, but, I just forgot! I can't believe it. How can I forget something like that? Amazing how quickly I could revert back to the way it was by just not thinking!! The strange part is that I remembered that I should just have one...but, forgot that I physically can not do it! I mean my goodness, I have been banded for 6 months!! How could i just block it out like that? Anyone ever do that? Or am I the only one with short term memory loss?

My nsv- went to the mall the other day and thought I would try some clothes on- I am down 2 sizes! yay!

    Any September bandsters out there???

Mermaid - I am glad things went better for you yesterday at the Doctors. :clap2: As for me....the scale has not moved for me in almost 2 weeks and I was getting a little down about it. But yesterday I had to go shopping for a couple of new clothing items including some workout wear and I am down a size. I love the no scale verification (NSV) that this is working. It is not showing on the scale but I am definately seeing it in my clothes. I didn't want to go out and spend money knowing that I probably would shrink out of it soon, but in hindsight this has given me motivation to work through this bandster hell and maintain...maybe even lose a few pounds in the process. Have a great weekend September Bandsters. If you have a NSV - please share it. :whoo:

How is weight loss for people over 50?

Congrats Brenda :clap2::clap2::clap2: Well I can tell you the band works... I am down 36.5 - I feel so much better - in fact a girl friend remarked that i was walking faster.. I am getting tons of compliment - 90% of my clothes are too big - I have a few items i can were - but not much - infact tomorrow hope to go buy some new bras - was wearing 42 C and think now I'm a 38.. Great NSV. Even at lunch today when I was starving looking at the menu with old eye and old tummy - i ordered a taco, enchallda and beans - had a few chips while waiting for food - it came and I was only able to eat the taco :phanvan- I will have the echallda (sp) and beans for dinner - still not healthy choice - should have had chievac (sp) tosadas - but for the last 3 months I have been eating great 98% of the time so - dont think it will kill me - I also walked 3.5 mph for 50 mins - 3 miles...
  13. Everytime I try to post on the laptop, I get almost done, and lose the post. It is just enough smaller, and things in different places, that I go to backspace, or capitalize, and poof it disappears...and takes my happy mood with it. It thoroughly ticks me off!!!! So...gonna try it again! It is probably too late now, but I did wish Judy luck, and still do, although I know she will do wonderfully!!! I know exactly what you mean about feeling younger, I think I lost years as well as pounds, I feel better than I have in the last 10-15 years! At least! The Beatles White Album was the first gift I ever bought my DH. We both knew why he had been hinting that it was the only one he didn't have....So on his birthday I had several gifts, and he went right for the one that looked like a CD would be in it, and found a belt buckle. I told him I was sorry and we could continue to look, but I didn't find the album....he was bummed, but didn't let on....he opened some other piddly things, then opened a box with a pair of jeans, and lying on top of the jeans in this fair sized box was his album....wrapped, then covered with an entire roll of duct tape! It ended up huge! He looked at it for a second, because it no longer looked square...then he started laughing, he knew it wasn't a duct tape bowling ball!! We have went to several Beatlemania concerts, as well as a couple of other tribute bands. Would love to see the one you told about Terry! Took the kids to lunch today, SIL was surprisingly normal acting!! He has always doted on Kinsey, he thinks she is wonderful...but even she made him pale today!!! Abbey ordered a salad, so they brought a basket with assorted crackers---which he promptly organized!!! He offered Kinsey some, which she loved, but as I watched her, about half way through, they got too dry, she needed a drink. I gave her her tea, and when she drank it, you could see her crackers backwashing -- he physically went pale!!! But he was good otherwise, ate his cheeseburger with a knife and fork, and kinda grossed out on Rick finishing my food I had been eating on...but was an ok day. DD is having problems with migraines. Worries us of course. Michelle-would have loved to be there to celebrate your NSV with you!!! We could have a great time!!! Getting everyones info together...waiting for any additions, will send a PM to check--so far I have not offended anyone doing so!!! So I need Spouse or Significant others names if there is one, and birthdates on y'all. Amanda'a address looks so different!!! Well Rick is on his way in, and dinner is about half done---guess I'll go speed things up. Check in with you guys in awhile!!! Kat
  14. Good luck Judy! michelle-Great NSVs. It is such a wonderful feeling, right? Laura-way to go on the 270's Less than 100 pounds, it will fall off in no time! Way to go! Amazing how good the band is when it isn't malfunctioning, huh? Haydee-thank you thank you! It is great to be in onederland! My aunt calls it never never land because she doesn't think she will ever see it again.....she cracks me up! jenn-congrats on the inches...you are melting! TracyKS-turning heads are you? YOU GO GIRL!! That is awesome!! My b-day is Feb 19th. I could care less if I have anymore though. The years are passing too quickly. I wish more than anything that the band would have come out 20 years ago. You younger (than me) violets are very lucky ladies!! But, the important thing is I have the band now...right?! Everyone have a great night & weekend!!

    Off My C-pap!!!!

Go Deanna, Go Deanna! You're a rock star! And really sharing these NSV's is so important for the ones coming up behind us. It gives so much hope. I remember getting my CPAP and being depressed for weeks. The improved sleep helped with that though LOL. I packed mine away sooner than I should have, but getting rid of it was really important to me. Woo Hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Well Violets.. after months and months of practicing, the New Day Singers concert is just a couple of hours away and I'm dressed, ready and nervous. I have to admit I look good in my outfit. Cream colored blouse, black slim skirt, Lia Sophia necklace and WWJD bracelet. I be stylin'!! Michelle.. GREAT NSV's.. we all sure celebrate with you!!!! I bought a pair of pants last night at Penneys and they were a size 14.. regular 14!!! Not in the women's section. It's a great feeling, isn't it?? My birthday is June 24th and I'm wayyyyyyyyyy ahead of you all in years. But I gotta tell you, I sure don't feel my age anymore and that, my fellow Violets, is a GREAT NSV also!! I'm off to sing. Wish me luck and I'll check back tonight after it's all over. Patience, Trust and WWJD!!
  17. So ok... I knew that my pj pants were getting a bit big... & baggy... & loose... they're a 26/28... so I popped into Lane B today to pick up some new ones... and I tried on the 22/24 and they were TOO BIG!... so I tried on the 18/20 -- and they FIT!! :omg: Talk about your NSV! I also got 2 new smaller bras (it's some sort of bra fitting weekend there, so she measured me & the whole bit...), new size undies, a pair of jeans (they have some funky new sizing system, so I have no idea what size it calculates to), AND a cute top IN A 14/16!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ladies, standing there in that fitting room... I began to tear up... because not only am I getting smaller (no matter how much I can't see it)... but I have H*O*P*E* that I'll only be getting smaller & smaller in the weeks/months ahead... HOPE... what a wonderful thing!!

    Off My C-pap!!!!

Congrats to you! A huge NSV!
  20. Hey everyone. I have just come into some realization. I was looking in the bathroom mirror last night and guess what?? I have shoulders and collar bones now!! Not just two humps of fat on either side of my neck. Sounds silly even to myself when I think about it but I have been overweight all my life (39 years). In fact, I am 10 pounds less than what I recall putting on my paperwork to get my driver's license at 16. It's amazing the things I am now realizing now that I have lost almost 60 pounds. I also noticed that my shadow is smaller. When I saw it, I thought it belonged to someone else and no one else was walking with me. When I realized it was my shadow, I just giggled like a young girl in love. AND I bought my first pair of size 18 jeans the other day. On 1/19/07 (surgery day) I was wearing 26's. Like some of you, I have been in a weight loss plateau scale- wise for like two months but it's things like this that mean so much more.

missy GREAT NSV!! Don't focus on how big you are but that you are losing every day!! We are all at a different spot, but all working at the same goal!! Keep up the great work!! portion control I agree with all your posts. this week I have been eating over the 1 cup or 1/2 cup. I am worried that I am stretching my pouch. In most cases I don't feel full, but there are times I do feel restriction. Sometimes I stop eating others I don't. Now, I am still eating less than before and do stop, but I feel that I should feel full sooner. I have a doc appointment on Monday. I am on the fence for a fill, the reason being is I do feel restriction, should I just feel that and stop eating, regardless if I feel full! But that is so hard. the band is to tell me I am full. I am confused about it. I read so many that get a fill and can't eat anything and PB. I dont' want that either. sorry for rambling!!! stef I wish I had a suggestion for you! I have not been on the scale since I reached 199. I am afraid I gained:paranoid. I will wait until Monday!!

    Anyone here?

Just checking... haha! To start off this lovely Friday (well, not so lovely because I have to work), I will tell you of my latest NSV -- my old scrubs fit again! And they are loose! I also had a stress test (more on that later) on Wednesday, and I did pretty good! Better than I did a few years ago. Hope everyone has a good start to their weekend! Maria

    Marchies in October!

I have a NSV to scream about!!! Woohoo!!! I finally broke down and went to buy some clothes. My 24 fall off, my 22s look rediculous, my 20s come down over my hips w/o unbuttoning them. So I had ONE pair of size 18 pants that look and feel good for work. Well, I can't wear the same damn pants every day so I went to the AVENUE, or as I call it, my store, the fat people store. I was on the way to the airport with my dad and sister so they came with me. I tried on a bunch of size 18s and they just didn't look right, my dad said - "go get the next size down girl" . So I did! And guess what!! They FIT!!!!! YAY!!!! I put on a 14/16 for the frst tme in well - hmm - about 10 years????? At work today everyone congratulated me on my weght loss. Even my boss!! He said, "by the way Nicole, notice that you've lost a lot of weght, 'm happy for you, keep t up." Well - he is so self absorbed was n shock!!! LOL So YAY ME!!! Now to get into ONEDERLAND!!!!!

Sandra-I hope your son is okay, please keep us informed. Laura-Congrats.....your going to be a grandma!Yipee! Mellisa-you are going to be a beautiful bride....the dress size does not matter! Tom- I have not complained about the TOM (time of month) ever since you put me in my place and I knew there was a male on here....I am sure you do not want to hear about every little cramp!!!! Mini and Cindy- you are both such good cheerleaders, keep it up I love to read your replies! Now for my NSV- I went to a meeting the other night with some people from my industry that I have not seen in a while. The first 3 people that I spoke to said "wow, you look great!" They all noticed the weight loss! I was so confident after that...its amazing how uplifting that is....

    June 2007 Bandsters

To answer your question Stef, I can eat 1 cup of food at the moment. I only lose because of the band. I used to eat three HUGE meals a day. Bigger than a normal fat person. I'd also have a giant muffin and a whole bar of chocolate and a muesli bar. Now I can only have three small meals a day. I haven't cut out snacking ('cept the muffin)but it doesn't matter. My overall calories must be much less and as I'm a lot bigger than some of you so my body would naturally require a lot more calories just to function. I'm not on a diet and won't go on one. It puts me in a bad head space. However, I'm starting to realise that my standards in life have been set too low (in all areas, not just food) so now I'm starting to choose things which are more nutritious because my body needs them. Although I don't count cals, I have been on diets before and I do know that a chocolate bar has the calories of two extra meals so I've cut down to the small-sized one and every other day rather than every day. I'm sure that after a while, I won't be able to eat 2000 cals (I'm guessing here) and still lose but I can now so I'm not going to worry. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Awesome NSVs everyone.:bounce: I haven't bought any new clothes yet but a colleague commented that I was 'swimming' in my current ones. She doesn't know about the band. I'm also starting to notice little things. Tonight I doled out the correct portion for dinner. I ate it and I really do need to take pea-sized bites now or I'm in trouble. I like tasting every mouthful. When I had finished, I went to get more and as I was reaching for it, I thought, "Who am I kidding? That isn't going to fit" and put it back in the fridge. Also, I was going to eat some chocolate wafer biscuit thingies and then I had the thought that they were cheap, sugary rubbish and ate two passionfruit instead. If I'm going to have junk food, I'll make it a small 70% dark chocolate with almonds or marzipan or something I love. I have been chewing and spitting less (gross I know but I do it). I now only spit out junk food and not normal food. I used to buy a takeaway meal and be angry I couldn't finish it and chew and spit it in a bowl until it was done. Now I can't be bothered and see it as a waste of money. It's as though my eating habits are slowly starting to improve. I can even recognise emotional overeating now. Today was a really stressful day at work so I'm off to the gym to see if that'll help. I think my body needs the movement. It's not good to stay still all the time. Which isn't to say all is hunky dory. Had a really tough time with PBing this week and had to go on liquids for 48 hours. My stomach was really sore but I'm OK now.
