    June 2007 Bandsters

Stef glad to hear your grandfather is doing better, he surely does not look that old in the photo! "bracelet" How does all that fit on it? I did not look at the site yet, but it looks like a lot. I never thougth to get one, but after Dawn's experience, I might just do it now!! Dawn glad you are OK! I know how it feels to go through something like that with no answers. Now you have to pray it does not happen again! For now, smile and take care! suzzzie you are doing great in your contest! You are lucky to take advantage of the trainer deal. When I watch the Biggest Loser, I wish I could have a Jillian for a day! GREAT NSV It feels so great to fit into the next size down! NSV for me too! I bought a new pair of size 16 pants, modern ones, cream color with brown and and like a slate pin stripe. I wore them to work yesterday with a black sweater and black shoes. I received compliments all day. then I saw my 22 year old son, and he was giving me a hard time, telling me I was all trying to be young again, whatever!! Son's!!! His wife was saying I looked nice, and told him to be be quiet! At least he noticed!! I have been having a really hard time getting to the gym. I had planned to go to a 8:30 am weight lifting class and then take a 9:30 step class, and here I sit. I will leave and go to the step. I really need to get there, I hate when I am so much in a rut with the gym. why???? not sure!! Have a great weekend everyone. hope to hear from Toni and where is Monica these days? Or Holly? We miss you if you are reading.

So, My first NSV was getting in a ride @ Knott's... I was so nervous about potentially doing the "dreaded walk of shame". I got on, down came the bar...Whew! it went down....VICTORY! I rode that & had a blast with my family! I have lost 87 lbs so far, & am between an 18 -22 in clothes(depending on the cut/style, etc) After I got off the ride I noticed that there was a sign that said that if you recently had surgery, then you should not get on these rides. I had surgery in Jan.2007, I feel that I am healed, but didnt even THINK about anything happeneing to my band, my hubby said that it should be healed by now, but I would like your imput. I havent talked to my Dr. yet. I feel fine, just I am always a worry wart... :biggrin1:

    Amazing what you don't realize-NSV

NSV's do mean so much more because they're usually when your head suddenly catches up. I mean I could weigh 30kg and still think I was fat. The number doesnt computer. Its when you catch a sight of yourself from behind in a dressing room mirror and realise you're not 2 metres wide but actually have a nice shape, or see the odd photo of yourself that surprises you etc, THAT's when you truly see how far you've come. Those are awesome moments.

    Amazing what you don't realize-NSV

yayy!! awesome job- i am starting to see mine too after only 36 lbs-it is AMAZING the differences we see in just a short time- my nsv was last week- I started my pre-op diet a couple of months ago in a tight size 24- I last week fit into an 18!! I am pretty much a 20- but finding a pair that were 18 was great!! I was stoked... next week is my first fill.. hoping that the loss will start again- haven't really lost anything in the past 3 weeks-but I will take my NSV!!

NSV is non scale victory. ie. losing a clothing size, fitting on an airplane, etc.

What are NSVs and will I enjoy them?

    Amazing what you don't realize-NSV

That is wonderful!!! Collarbones are exciting...last night I was lying in bed and realized that my ribs stuck up higher than my tummy. WOOO HOOOO!!!! Of course, that's only when I'm lying down...but it's a vast improvement! Best of luck and continue to enjoy those NSVs. Rain

I *feel* overall, less fat. I'm loving this whole NSV thing!
  9. Good morning everyone!! Now if the tooth I had pulled wasn't bad enough, I have ulcers in my mouth right in the crease of my cheek & gums...OMG, is my mouth ever going to feel normal again? I put oragel but it burns so badly when I first put it on that I am a wimp to use it. With my luck it is some kind of gum disease and I have used up all my dental insurance for the year so now what? Have any of you ladies heard of any good home remedies for mouth ulcers? Would it be a dentist I need to go to? My whole left side of my head hurts. Dear Jesus, I am falling apart!! Oh, and now my medium size boobies are now small boobies. I refuse to be an "A", so if they shrink any more, it will be new boobs with my TT. I did not wanna do that BUT I am not gonna tolerate A's either!! I need to get my wedding ring downsized....it can just slip right off my finger, which I suppose is a NSV. Oh well, at least my bowels are moving. So I guess it could be worse!! OK, that all the whining I can handle from myself this morning! Everyone have a great day!

    What would you change?

I've never been able to wear a single pair of lane bryant's pants. Besides being short, they also have 'hips' for the plus size.. I have no hips.. just big belly! So they poofed out all weird on my hips.. But me too me too! If I find a pair of jeans that fit, I order multiple pair. Pre-op I had this one set of bell bottom jeans I loved, had 5 pair of them!! Around July they stopped fitting, and I went into panic mode, I wore those almost every single day.. now what?! But luckily I can now fit into some old old jeans (the nsv jeans on the b&a page)..and I ordered some new pants from alloy.com a few weeks ago and they fit great, and before I could order a new pair.. they sent me another pair! They have a lot of errors at their place, sometimes in my favor. My 'dream' height was always 5'3, and my friends would say 'can you imagine how fat you'd be if you weighed what you did at 5'3?'. So I'm suppose to be thankful, heh.

Marcy - Great NSV :clap2::clap2::clap2: Food on your plate - but it into a box ASAP so you won't be tempted to continue to pick - I am the same way too. It's mind over matter you can do it... I know you can.... Make good food choices and sweet spot being hit - you will do it....

So...just got back from Anchorage...I didn't have good access to the internet and I don't have the time/patience to read everything that I've missed...I hope nothing BIG, but if there was something big I expect that someone will fill me in. So I had my second fill on Wed. afternoon. Put another 1.0 cc in = 2.5cc. I didn't feel any restriction and that afternoon I was able to eat a baked potato and small salad (Wendy's has internet access so I was there for a few minutes checking some email.) :huytsaoI called him and said that I'd like more so I went back in on Fri. and got another .5 cc put in. he did a check and pulled it all out to make sure there wasn't a leak and it all looked good. :)So now I HAVE RESTRICTION! And GOOD restriction at that! I was getting a little jealous that everyone was only eating a little bit and I could eat...well, more than that. So now I've been cut off! Now, I just have to get over the "head hunger"! :hungry:I had lunch with a friend the other day and we had chicken legs and salad. I got through the salad, had two bites of chicken and got stopped up! I had a real hard time with having food still on my plate and I hadn't eaten that much! I even picked at it for about 15 minutes, but just got more and more uncomfortable so finally I stopped. Carbonation doesn't bother me though (tried a diet Coke yesterday and was fine, but I didn't drink it fast either). So, maybe I'm on my way? We'll see. I head off for my cruise in a few weeks and I definitely won't feel all sexy, but definitely better about myself.:biggrin1: OH.....NSV! I went to get some jeans (mine are FALLING off of me) and I had to go down TWO sizes! It was AMAZING! I felt good having to go back to the racks for a SMALLER size!:clap2::whoo:

23 pounds in 2 months is very good loss in my opinion. You should average 1-2 pounds a week and that sounds right on track. Are you exercising? Are you taking measurements? Sometimes you stall for a few weeks and the loss begins again. Find other NSVs(non-scale victories) to keep you motivated. Some NSVs are getting off of certain medications, being able to wear a piece of clothing that hasn't fit in awhile, being able to climb stairs without stopping to catch your breath, etc. You get the idea. Sometimes it takes a few fills to get where you'd like to be restriction wise. Make sure you keep following all the banster rules, don't drink your calories and hopefully the weight loss will start up again. Hang in there and best of luck to you!

    NSV with Halloween Candy?

Honestly, my NSVs come when I turn down bread, but that doesn't really count because I can't eat the bread anyway. I've never been really tempted by candy or sweets.

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Oh and this isn't an NSV I earned, just error on some clothing maker's part.. When me and mom went clothing shopping a month or so ago (she wears 12/14..) there was this really cute shirt.. and the only size they had was 14/16, so mom got it and I was going to live vicariously through her hehe. Well, she finally tried it on, and it was way too big, didn't fit well at all. She was going to give it to my aunt (who is about a 14/16), but I said.. for giggles, let me try it!! So I put it on yesterday, fit *perfectly*. So, I wore a 14/16 yesterday! The sizing was way messed up (this was from Cato's). It's more like an 18/20 at the least...but still to say I put on a size 14/16 BUTTON UP shirt with no problems LOL! Felt good regardless. Never happened before in my life.
  18. And here approaches my first set of Holidays with the band. So far, I am being very good.. anyone else having NSV moments when they pass the unbelievable amount of Halloween candies and treats?? I deliberately don't walk down candy aisles anymore as not to tempt myself.. but when I go grocery shopping now, there they are EVERYWHERE. I walk by them several times, and I hear them whisper my name. But alas, I say NO TO YOU CANDY!! Anyone else having these proud moments? :car:

    Suggestions for dealing with family?

it's kind of fishing (well, not kind of), but next time you see them you could talk about your most recent NSV (Yay, I finally reached a size X, I haven't seen that since ___) and see if he says anything?

Wooot Wooot to you Stacey - that is so awesome! Aren't NSV so great too? Scales aren't the only thing that matter anymore!!! Congrats to you!

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

OK.. TRACYK.. read my lips... YOU GOTTA TELL US WHEN YOU LOSE WEIGHT... We're here to not only commiserate when we do something we know we shouldn't, but also to CELEBRATE when we do good things and you are doing GOOD things!!! So let us in on the celebration too, k??? That goes for all the Violet Sistahs!!! And CONGRATS on the 2.5#!!!!:clap2::clap2::clap2: Pamela.. take care of yourself and get better soon!!! Kat.. great pics!! We should all post some pics of us now so we don't have to squint at the Avatars to figure out what each of us looks like!! Laura.. I can relate to what you said. Yesterday I had a chicken salad wrap from Culvers and as I was chewing a bite in my mouth I could feel the previous mouthful getting stuck. So what do I do??? Spit out what I'm chewing?? And waste all that good food?? Heck no.. just swallow it and then walk around like a crazy woman trying to get the sucker to go down. I went to the bathroom so I could flap my arms and it eventually slid down, but dang.. old habits like eating too fast and taking big bites are sure hard to break!! I did have lots of NSV's at church today. I had LOTS of people comment on how much weight I've lost. Lots were asking what I was doing so I got to tell the lap band story. I'm getting quite good at it, actually. It starts out with... "in the beginning God created me and I got fat"... and ends up with..... "and then God created the lap band and said.. it is good". :biggrin1: When I turned on my cell phone a little bit ago (I had turned it off for the concerts and forgot to turn it back on), I had a voice mail from someone saying they heard I had lapband surgery and would I be willing to talk to them about it. Willing???? Heck, I need to write a book!!! I LOVE telling the lapband story. Jennifur.. so glad your burn is better. You're lucky you got it taken care of before it got out of control. And you keep that good attitude about yourself. YOU and your kids are what matters and that jerk.. 'scuse me..... needs to own up to his obligations!!! Ms. Jen.... you have a great attitude now.. keep building on that!!! We all need to take lessons from you! Michelle.. I've been there, done that with redoing the whole house before company comes. Don't wear yourself out to the point of getting exhausted!! You want to be able to enjoy your company while they're there, ya know! Terry... I fill up two DejaVue bottles with Crystal light each morning. I know when I have drunk them both I have had 66 oz. of water. I put one in the freezer before breakfast and one before lunch. That way I can take them out an hour later and they are pretty slushy.. just the way I love them. I have never, ever drunk this much water in my life!!! Thank goodness for Crystal Light. I'm going to go and wait for Bob to get home from his church. Then we'll have to figure out lunch. And then it will be time for a nice longgggggggggggggggggggggg nap! Everyone have a great day!!
  22. Judy-I am glad that your concert went well! Congrats on the 1 lb. I think all of us may have learned what not to do from your cruise experience! But in good ol Judy fashion, you are getting the pounds back off....I knew you would! YAY YOU! Pamela-I hope that you feel better soon! Sounds like you and your neices & nephews had fun though! MsJen-Wow, how great it was to read how much you are in love with you! It is so refreshing to hear people say that. I am starting to love me too! it is a great feeling. Jennifur-I agree with everything MsJen said. How is your aunt? Kat-no my sister does not own a shop....she and her dh work, they have no kids and she is able to spoil herself. She is one of those marathon shoppers. I do not like to go with her because it is an all day affair. She can wear out a 3 year old when it comes to shopping! I would be your sister and pass things along, but lucky for you, my stuff would be way to big for you!! Terri-the necklace you described sounds like it is beautiful. I wish I had the time & patience to do that! tracyKS-sorry about the gain, but it will come back off in no time...you are a violet!! Besides, you are turning mens heads, remember? That NSV alone will be what gets the 2 pounds and even more off!! So, yesterday I lost my everloving mind. For a split second, I literally forgot about the band....I mean FORGOT! I was walking through the kitchen, saw my DD mini chocolate donuts, opened the bag and stuck a whole one in my mouth and chewed it up and swallowed it in one big gulp and then thought...OMG!!!!! The chest pains immediately started and that is when I realied what I did....Every since I was banded I have been diligent in what I stick in my mouth, but, I just forgot! I can't believe it. How can I forget something like that? Amazing how quickly I could revert back to the way it was by just not thinking!! The strange part is that I remembered that I should just have one...but, forgot that I physically can not do it! I mean my goodness, I have been banded for 6 months!! How could i just block it out like that? Anyone ever do that? Or am I the only one with short term memory loss?

    Any September bandsters out there???

Mermaid - I am glad things went better for you yesterday at the Doctors. :clap2: As for me....the scale has not moved for me in almost 2 weeks and I was getting a little down about it. But yesterday I had to go shopping for a couple of new clothing items including some workout wear and I am down a size. I love the no scale verification (NSV) that this is working. It is not showing on the scale but I am definately seeing it in my clothes. I didn't want to go out and spend money knowing that I probably would shrink out of it soon, but in hindsight this has given me motivation to work through this bandster hell and maintain...maybe even lose a few pounds in the process. Have a great weekend September Bandsters. If you have a NSV - please share it. :whoo:

How is weight loss for people over 50?

Congrats Brenda :clap2::clap2::clap2: Well I can tell you the band works... I am down 36.5 - I feel so much better - in fact a girl friend remarked that i was walking faster.. I am getting tons of compliment - 90% of my clothes are too big - I have a few items i can were - but not much - infact tomorrow hope to go buy some new bras - was wearing 42 C and think now I'm a 38.. Great NSV. Even at lunch today when I was starving looking at the menu with old eye and old tummy - i ordered a taco, enchallda and beans - had a few chips while waiting for food - it came and I was only able to eat the taco :phanvan- I will have the echallda (sp) and beans for dinner - still not healthy choice - should have had chievac (sp) tosadas - but for the last 3 months I have been eating great 98% of the time so - dont think it will kill me - I also walked 3.5 mph for 50 mins - 3 miles...
