@@BLERDgirl yes I was up walking just as soon as my eyes would stay open and I walked all day and night long. The nurses were very impressed with my dedication to walking but the reason I was so dedicated was about every lap I did I would get out a good burp which always made me feel so much better! I just got a little cup of water to drink and the nurse said to take an hour to drink it I looked at it and thought no way will this take an hour lol I have 10 min left and just a little half way through it lol who knew -

Postop replied to tobiganymore's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
@tobiganymore Flagyl is kind of a reset. It helps with the good and bad bugs in your system. You're quite lucky you've never needed it. Many DSers get a SIBO every once in a while & need Flagyl to even things out. It's available by Rx from your doctor. I know many DSsers who take it a couple of times a year just to keep things at an even keel. I try to remember to take it once a year to do that. But sometimes I haven't taken it for 3-4 years. Then when I find I'm having bathroom issues I remember I haven't taken it for a while. I take it for about 10-14 days and things get better. -

Thank you so much for answering I was so freaking out since I already had and echo done none doctor had ordered a stress test. Once I get the okay from cardio doctor its waiting for the insurance approval..... Ahhhh the joy of waiting. Hello Everyone - I have a question have any of you done a treadmill stress test? And what it involves? I have to past this test and get it signed off from my cardio doctor before my dr will summit for approval from my insurance. Going this Wednesday..... I am already started on 1700 calorie diet with a Protein shake for one of my meals. I have cut out all caffiene for about two months do you think that will be a plus.... thanks for taking the time to answer..... I had to do a treadmill test also. I went in and they did a sonogram of my heart first. It took about 30 mins. Then I went in for the treadmill test. They did a resting EKG and took my blood pressure. Then I got on the treadmill and was still hooked up. It started slow and got faster and inclined. I had to get my heart rate up to a certain number but I can't remember. Once it was there she stopped it. It only took maybe 10-15 mins, and was a lot easier than I thought.

Lapband to Sleeve in Mexico.... Who did you use?
Ms.AntiBand replied to stefaniwg's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
My surgeon is Dr Ponce and there are a lot of others here who agree he is the best. Of course.. Most all surgeon in MX are with only one exception which I will only pm if someone asks Trish is Dr Ponce's Cordinator and you won't find someone more caring then her. She is by far the best Cordinator and trust me I've dealt with more than my share(close to 10) Whoever you chose, be sure to talk to several actual patients before you decide .. It's your life. -
I just had my 3-month post-op appointment and my surgeon said it's pretty much unavoidable. Generally your hair falls out 3 months after the event that triggered it, so my surgeon stresses the importance of protein immediately post-op. I got all of mine in and am still losing hair, but I figure it could be worse and maybe the protein kept it at bay somewhat. My hair is past my shoulders so I think even a small loss looks like more because the hair is longer. I take biotin and surgeon said he doesn't know if it helps, but it can't hurt. I have also heard that zinc might help, but I don't take it. The surgeon also said the surgery itself and the anesthesia can trigger hair loss. Mine started at 10 or 11 weeks. Hopefully this too shall pass.

You'll love your new journey after the date. Drink plenty of Water and practice Sipping the water. Have a heating pad ready, SF popsicles, SF jelly. I'm lazy and purchased my SF stuff from Walmart. Good cheap prices. Follow any doctors directions on what he/she wants you to do prior to surgery. If no directions, my docotr wanted me on liquids only 24 hours prior to surgery date and no blood thinners (aspirin, motrin type products) 10 days prior to the date. Best wishes and Keep the Faith.

Hi, I'm Stacey. I had my procedure done on Wednesday, 12/19. I am having trouble getting enough fluids in. I try to sip on my water, but things like Crystal Light just taste too sweet. And I don't like broth. What should I do? -

I have dieted my whole life, I lost 17 pounds when I was 10 years old! I was under 175 for years, I am 5'9". Around 20 years ago I suddenly gained 50 pounds, then slowly 30 more. I managed to stay under 257 (set point?) for years. Then I started to creep up, and nothing I did seemed to get the weight off. When I started to have other problems, blood pressure, and cholesterol... I knew I had to take things to the next level. WLS. My Bariatric Doc recommended the sleeve, and it looked SOOOO much better to me than RNY, I jumped on it. I was one of his first patients. I have been very happy with the sleeve, but never got to my modest goal (my doc never set a goal). I was about 5 pounds away from goal, when I hit a serious stall... then I gave up some accountability, and gained 22 pounds over around 4-5 months. I had long term company, a vacation to New Orleans, bone spurs that kept me from the gym and walking until I got through the whole sports medicine system... and a few other things that made it very challenging to stay on track, and in a blink... 22 pounds up. At the first of this year I got back on track, logging everything, getting a fitbit to keep track of exercise, and try a couple of eating plans to try to kick start the weight loss. I tried "eat more- lose weight" I started to gain (around 4-5 pounds) which is normal on that plan, but I chickened out because... well it was gaining weight! I then tried the Southbeach phase one... which is good, lost a couple of pounds, but lets face it, its a diet. I am a vegetarian, and that adds some extra carbs. I was still coming to VST, getting support from my buds here, but stepped that up. Some of us grouped together who had gotten to goal and gained, or others that had never made goal, and that conversation started here. Georgia introduced the 5:2 fast diet into the conversation, and some of us jumped on it around 6 weeks ago. We have had varying degrees of success, but it has had positive results besides weight loss for all of us. As of this writing, I am down 7 pounds at 5 1/2 weeks, (was at 8.8 pounds a couple of days ago) after some very slow loss (around 1-2 pounds a month). I am getting close to my lowest weight after surgery, and to goal. I had my surgery January 19, 2011, and am over 2 1/2 years out as of this post.

MichelleStevens replied to MichelleStevens's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Ive always been able to chug a glass of water. Ive seen 2 doctors and neither one have discussed the fills with me. I switched doctors and the new one put my fill in and was gone out of the room in under 10 seconds. I really dont like the new doctor at all. -
Hi Everyone! I'm new here but I'm scheduled for VSG on 10/26. I finished my supervised weight loss but I'm wondering if you have to weigh in at preop appt? I have a special event the night before and was hoping to be able to eat whatever I want for the last time ever ...(not the right mentality... I know!) Let me know your experience! Liquid Diet starts today!
PhillyEagles replied to PhillyEagles's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in the thick of it BMC blogger. In the middle of day 4 of 14 haha it feels like its never gonna end. In my opinion I'll be super hungry and have a protein shake and for about 30 min I'll be satisfied and then about an hour later I'll be hungry again. It sucks but in my mind I would rather be feeling like crap right now before my surgery rather than having to deal with this on top of my surgery. I feel like I'm laying the foundation for the next month where I'm not going to do anything but a liquid diet so that in 10 days when my surgery comes around I'll be somewhat used to this diet and I'll have a better chance for success post op. That's just the way my mind works. But to answer your question with the short answer, the hurdle is both. It's mental in the fact that you want to EAT something, and also physical because you are hungry for food which is normal but your body just isn't used to getting nutrition in this form. If that makes any sense. I'm not an expert I can only speak on the way I feel lol I hope it helps -

Weight loss... Weigh in with your opinions.
devine.adon replied to devine.adon's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have to be honest 7 lbs a month seems very minimal to me, back 10 years ago I could loose 20-30 lbs in a month, of course I had only had one child and now I have three and I was younger and not well fat like I am now.. I guess I was so encouraged by these few I had talked to I just never looked for other answers, I have been told by my family dr that this will be wonderful and I will loose weight at a very fast pace, maybe he to has only looked at what is right in front of him. When I started seeing post of being 6 months out and loosing 30-40 lbs I panicked because I have already paid my deposit and I am having this, part of me can still close my eyes and see the me I will be this time next year but yes I am still discouraged after coming to the realization that I may not be one of the 100 lbs gone in 6 months or less and it does really put a damper on my outlook I had... Maybe with ad much willpower as I think I have I won't have a problem at all loosing it quickly.. I feel like if I can get 80-100 lbs off really fast then the rest will fly off, simply because ill be able to walk, jog, run without having to sit down every few minutes! I have had test run bc I was worried something was wrong with me medically but they found nothing, besides a little arthritis starting to show in my knees.. I was a volleyball player from school to YMCA at 22 years old, I want that again, badly!!! I guess I need to put my BIG girl panties on and pull them nice and high and get my head out of the black clouds of discouragement!! It happens especially when your family is negative like mine!! Thank you all for your words.. -

Here it talks about fatness vs fitness http://todayiwill.com/2010/01/fitness-vs-fatness-diet-vs-exercise-for-weight-loss-2/#.UEGTK5R5t3o But i also must mention that i would not consider myself lazy even without your typical workout routine. I work horses daily and have a job that keeps me on my feet 8-10 hrs a day. Before surgery i could easy run up several flights of stairs without being winded. My NUT actually told me I could cut back to the lower Protein requirements if I wanted to lose some of my muscle to not be so "bulky." (Her body mass thingy put me in the OVER category for muscle mass) I laughed and told her no thank you I will keep all the muscle i can. So it truly comes down to how "Lazy" you are talking. I have low pulse and blood pressure and absolutely no comorbidities. But I am active in my everyday life. I will choose to add some exercise plans as i go. But to answer the original question... yes you probably can lose the weight you want with diet alone. But don't expect to feel your best or look your best. And there are things to do besides the typical gym exercise routines...

Well, the voice in my head is nowhere near as functional or healthy as one that questions whether a nice well covered BMI of 25 is healthy enough, a great achievement and easily maintainable. The voice in my head says "stop eating you fat pig, youi're disgusting, you're fat, lose more weight". I'm 5ft 10 and 145lb or so, give or take. I have been lower and I know I cant maintain it without a tight lapband and very small food intake, and that's not healthy forever. So I do have to stop here. But people saying it annoys me. Cant they see my enormous thighs? Cant they see that I'll always be the 5ft 10 "big girl" and that I just want to shrink and shrink until I actually am 5ft 3 and cute and curvy? Cant they see that I've still got a few bulges and bits that arent perfect? Obviously not. But I wish I could see myself how they see me. Nonetheless I think people say it becuase you barely ever see anyone lose significant weight, enough to really change how they look. It freaks them out. They cant picture how you could lose anymore. People are bigger nowadays, they've lost sight of what "normal" looks like. We accept that after babies and when middle age hits, women are going to get squidgy. I know that me watching what I eat (and succeeding) and running or spinning every day gets right up several people's noses because it simply highlights to them that their own well cushioned rears and flabby tummies are a diect result of their own failure to maintain those same behaviours so they lash out at me for it. I love the school I work out now. An entirely female staff with a male principal, most between 30 and 50 and at least 3/4 of us all really into fitness. We can sit and talk about who's doing the next fun run and who is a member of what gym and what classes they do and everyone eats well and its amazing. Nobody there knew me fat and nobody there tells me I'm too skinny. Its really just the shock of seeing you actually shrink that prompts it I think.
