  1. So as it said I’m a bit over 4 months. Highest weight was 316. I’m now sitting at 228 as of this morning. I was wearing a size 28/30. Now I’m wearing a size 20 comfortably. Now where I need thoughts and opinions here is. I’m getting hungry more frequently now. I tend to wake up in the morning very hungry. I hate having that feeling. what does everyone else do? Do you wake up nearly starving? Another issue I’m seeing is I’m going nearly in a three week cycle. Where one week I loose almost 7-10 pounds then I sit at that weight for almost a full 3 weeks. Its driving me nuts. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong here. Im eating around 800-1200 calories a day. I don’t do protein drinks very often I tend to get protein from meats. Im eating nuts as a snack. I have started eating tortilla chips but I’m stopping that I think that killed me for a week allowing that carb back in. As a rule I don’t eat pasta, bread, and rice. I have let in too many carbs and sugar I think. I don’t eat sweets but I have been eating apple and peanut butter. I also have a 12 oz coffee with French vanilla creamer every morning. I also realized I forget a lot more than I should no drinking before or after rule Any thoughts, suggestions and opinions are very welcome.
  2. Good Morning Mikeyy, it's only a little after 7AM in the Eastern Time zone of the USA, many seem to be sleeping in. Elcee is Ballarat Victoria, my Friend Taoz is also in Australia. I think either of them could turn you on others "down under" I'll puzzle on this, see if I can think of some more people. Had my own RnY almost 10 weeks ago at 72, not doing perfect with recovery but I am fixable. Wiley Coyote , the cartoon character always talked about his "Great Brain", let's see what mine comes up with. I live in a small city of 20,000 called Mount Vernon, 48. miles from Columbus, maybe 80 km ? where I had my surgery, Ohio born, Ohio bred, my family has been here since Indian Days. Quick joke: Do you know what is said about people excessively proud of ancestors? They are like potatoes, the most important part of them is found already underground! That's me, a tad saucy and flippant!
  3. Hello there I'm from Australia I'm currently 320lbs and my ultimate goal would be 190lbs as i am tall and come from a family of big builds so 190 would be perfect. Here in Australia we can use health insurance to pay most of the surgery but I'll still be out of pocket $5000 but the catch is we must weight out 12 months before we get surgery i finally signed up for insurance 2 months ago so my surgery will be just after my 35th birthday 😀 and then should be able to lose the 130lbs within the following 10 months in time for my 36th birthday party.. I would just like to hear from others who are going through the operation Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass. I've done tons of research and that's the surgery i want Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass the best for long term. I've heard that it makes it so you don't have much cravings and you don't absorb calories as much because of bypass and you have to live off vitamins and such. I hope people can clarify things for me about all that stuff thank you!!!
  4. January 12, 2019!!! I am sooooo ready! Plane tickets purchased, making 2nd payment tomorrow and then another Dec 10th. Just don't want to have to bring a lot of cash with me to Mexico. Decided to go with "A Slimmer Me". Really good reviews and even better rates...they are running a special for $2999. with a free hernia repair until Nov 15th. I also had to call Southwest Airlines and request wheelchair services, I forgot to add that when I booked my flights. I was told to bring Gas-X, a travel pillow, a heating pad, an extension cord, and to order my vitamins (patches) before I go and start them immediately when I get back. I am addicted to Sleeve information and before and after pics. I also have no plans on telling ANYONE until after I return. I originally told my boyfriend and my best friend, he was VERY supportive, she was totally against it. I don't want to have to go through that again because the things she said was heartbreaking. I am amped up and ready to go....this month is crawling by. Any advice?

    Doomed

    Soooo scared this will be me...Surgery scheduled for Jan 12, 2019. Didn't want to be on liquid for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Next year, during the holidays I will be fine....but I don't want to spend all of this money, I already booked my flights and took 3 weeks of vacation, I am determined that I wont get turned away because I had no will power. Dude you will be so freaking angry at yourself if you get pushed back...get your head in the game! Come on! You got this!

    Anyone regretting this?

    Yes! I am wondering how could I have done this to myself, but then I remember how being 266 lbs. and only 5'2 had an impact on every single thing I did. Getting into my car comfortably; walking from my car into my job; not being able to even do one set of stairs without gasping for breath and my legs hurting, but being embarrassed to stop; the avoidance of mirrors and my reflection; the dread of having to go anywhere because I had nothing to wear and was too tired. I had the sleeve on 10/23 and it was the hardest experience of my life. I couldn't sleep in the hospital, the water tasted horrible and well, it was just a bad experience. I went home the next day and took some Benedryl, with the okay of my doctor's office and that helped me sleep. I was still getting over my cold so had a steamer and couldn't talk very well. The worst was taking my regular meds all crushed with water and they gagged me and then took the pills for nausea. The first few days I had the worst headache of my life, probably due to all the meds I was on. Once I got some Tylenol, I got rid of my headache. I'm starting my 4th week tomorrow. I got my vitamins and do not like them. I don't like the berry chewables at all so will have to try something different. The multivitamin makes me throw up and yesterday, I made a protein shake with skim milk and about a half hour, I was having stomach pains and diarrhea so bad that I lost two more pounds. So, maybe I am now sensitive to milk, so will always make my shakes with water. Now, it's the mental. I want to eat. I'm mad that all I can take is two bites of something or I'll have stomach pains, throw up or have you know what. I have to go back to work day after tomorrow and I've enjoyed being home for three weeks. My fat brain is mad that I can't eat like I used to anymore. I pray, I will be so happy in another few months, but right now, I'm not This is really, really, hard.

    I think im doomed ive been on my livershrink diet 7 days now and ive cheated 4 out of the 7 days not bad though because i eat nothing all day untill my dinner which consist of a 3 to 4oz piece of meat and a salad so around 10:30 i get hungry so i may eat another small piece of chicken or another salad or a couple bites of lowfat cottage cheese!!!!     Any August Sleevers out there?

    I was sleeved 8/16 and I've lost 37.1 since surgery and 55.8 including preop. I'm happy with my rate of loss. I'm 46, 5'4" and in perimenopause. It would take me months to lose a few pounds before surgery and I was always up and down the same 5-10 pounds.

    Pre-Op Journey

    Hey! I just had my sleeve on 10/29 at Bailey with Dr. Brandon Varnell! It was an awesome experience and I had no issues at all with the medical part of it. No pain, not even the infamous gas pain. I live in Tulsa and I would totally message ya with my phone number if you want to ask any questions or anything! Good luck and it seems to take forever and then it comes so quickly lol. The hospital and all the care was really super. I am glad I didnt end up just flying down to Mexico as 100 percent of my surgery was covered and it really was excellent care.

I just had my sleeve done on Thursday 11/8- On Thursday i had no food, just ice chips, Friday- i do not know how much intake i had, very little i think about 20-30 ounces Saturday- i believe it was 38 Sunday- 50 and got all my protein in Today- Its 430pm, and i am at 65 with half protein in. I started this morning at 7 am on a 20 ounce water.. when i got to work at 8 am i put it aside and had 10 ounces of coffee with 2ounces of protein for creamer.. finished the coffee by 10 am. I then went back to the water and finished it around noon. At noon I went to my protein shake and finished it around 130, I then made a 24 ounce of water and just finished it about 430pm. I found i had to constantly sip all day. I never got hungry but constantly every few minutes had a sip or two going down. It still hurts a bit going down.. like pressure i am not sure why or if its trying to pass the gas that may still be there. I still have a protein shake to go this evening, and can do more water, but i am almost at the mindset, that i have reached the goal for the day. Is it possible to drink to much? Its going down and staying down. I also was excited today that i was able to have a small BM for the first time since Wednesday. I think I will need some myralax or something or smooth move just in case as it was not normal but verge of constipation, but at least it moved. Thanks for your input.

    My surgery is 12/3 and nobody has told me about any pre-op/liquid diet. I’m starting to worry I may have missed the memo! I have my last nutrition visit 11/19, maybe I hear then? But I did just call the docs office and left a message to check.

Today was a weighing/measuring day, and I've discovered that I've lost 10 inches in my waist since the beginning of August!  This is great news, as I carry most of my weight in my belly, which is no good.  I'm glad I am measuring because I can see results even though I'm going through a stall.

    5k Run! 6 months post op!

    I don't know if that is the best way to train. All plans I have seen are sets of equal time. Kind of like lifting weights for endurance. Here you just need to build up your ankles/calves and hips. I'd check with someone to see if you should change it to sets of 5 minutes, or sets of 10 minutes. The best place for free in person advice is the local running shoe store that sells to the local school students and runners.. the people that work there typically run too.     5k Run! 6 months post op!

    Oh, you definitely need watch, or a smartphone with an app that is a TABATA Timer. You can set a warmup and warm down time, then set intervals or cycles or work/rest periods and it will set off alarms for you when to start and stop the run/walk periods, and even set an alarm for half way for each interval. When you go from 5 to 10 minute jogs, that halfway timer is helpful. One you get a 5k training g done, erase the app. You will have good days, and slow days... So unless you are still training for something and you need the timer, just to at your own brisk pace. I have my clock time set for just 20 minutes so I know about half way through about how I am doing, but that is it. One day, you just might be tired, or you body recovered more slowly from previous run (or other exercises), and if you artificially push yourself too hard, you will be in worse shape.     5k Run! 6 months post op!

    I just followed the Couch to 5K plans with my own variations. Basically, it's interval training that gets more aggressive each week, over the course of 9-12 weeks. You start out say, walking 5 minutes. The. You jog 30 seconds, then repeats it over a period of 25-30 minutes. 3 days a week (rest day between) Next week, you bump it up to jogging for a minute. Then the following week, you might reduce the walking to 4 or 3 minutes. Then another week increase the jogging to 2 minutes. Eventually i was on a plan that was at jogging for 5 minutes, walk 1, then jog 10 walk 1 then jog 12 walk 30 sec, then jog 20 minutes, then 25. Then I just kept going one day and crossed the 5k mark. I adjusted my plan and my plan turned out to be 14 or 16 weeks. Cold weather is difficult to run in. I still have to get some good clothes. I'll need a base layer clothing and some pants and a jacket to keep me just warm enough. Will also need gloves, head cover, and probably a scarf or something to cover my mouth to not breath in bitter cold air. Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app
  22. You should see a trainer that works at the gym you use. And ease into a steady workout as you get comfortable. For example, you should not do biceps, unless you are also doing tricep extensions, or leg extensions without leg curls because you build up one side of the appendage, a trainer can make sure you are doing the right sets at the right time. Also, it good to have an extra set of eyes on you to make sure you are lifting correctly, and not straining any muscles, even if using a machine, you need to have the right heights and chair settings. Everyday almost, I see someone doing a bench press machine sitting way too low, they are only hurting their wrists and not getting anything out of the machine. I strained a wrist on a bent over row using a Smith Machine because I didn't think to "pre-rotate" my wrists back when I did it by myself. Needed a wrist wrap for lifting for over a month because of that. Also, many exercises require proper form or you are just wasting the time... There is an eagerness to see results and increase weights. I found out once I was doing the pect flye wrong in the last reps, so I really had back the weight down. And, a leg press, is not just a leg press, it can be very different based on where you place your feet, if you are doing quads or glutes (and other variations). You should start with just a few groups, then add on to it. Just get your muscles used to some work, maybe sets of 12 reps before you start getting serious. Trainers can also come up with exercises you need. I am in a "combat" fencing sport known as HEMA, and my trainer gave me some specific exercises for close in sword work that I haven't seen anyone at my LA Fitness ever do, "reverse curls," and a couple other things. I probably would never have come across it on my own, or not for a long time. I actually sat down, and demonstrated movements, and he added to my list. Trainers are worth the money. And after a while, you'll be competent enough to not need to see one frequently. I started with a series of maybe 8-10 exercises, and my trainer has me up to 3 day cycles of 8-9 lifts/core per day, and I should be doing more! But, it would have been too daunting to start out with a list of 24 exercises. You should start with a small group so you know how much time you need. I used to be able to get to the gym and finish my day in an hour, but not anymore with 8-9 exercises with 2 minute rests between sets. The trainer also helped schedule them, I probably could have done it myself, but their input is good. For example, I keep my shoulder/chest/incline presses on different days, Otherwise, I'll be worn out by the time I got to the last one because the muscles they use do slightly overlap.     I also had this issue and even almost 10 weeks out and I can NOT stomach any "artificial protein". After telling my surgeon this at my week post op apt he started having me make my own protein shakes. And till this day I eat my protein. I don't supplement at all and can get all of what I need in. Plus knowing what is going into my body really means a lot now. My taste buds totally changed after surgery. And that yucky taste in your mouth will go away as you start to eat real food again. I struggled with that too. The unflavored protein was the WORST! Look up my surgeon on YouTube , Dr. Matthew Weiner. He goes over the set point smoothies and you can get your protein in the natural way. They go down a lot easier and they aren't as heavy in your tummy.
