    Dizzy when I stand up

    UPDATE: My doctor said that my BP is perfect, and most likely he said this feeling was my body responding to a lower blood volume due to weight loss. He also said to make sure that I reach my water goals (which I do).
  2. Congratulations! I started a fair bit higher than that 400s. I also started walking at about 300 and quickly got up to 8-10+ miles a day. I never started weight lifting. I did start running. Who knew I would enjoy it. Good luck, Tek

    Revision to SADI

    Um, SADI is not a mini bypass hun. It's another name for the SIPS/Loop Duodenal Switch surgery. And because the sleeve is, quite literally, the first part of the surgery they probably didn't feel the need to mess with your stomach and just went ahead and did the intestinal bit. They should have at least checked to see if there was any stretching in your original pouch, but if they didn't see anything wrong with it's size then they wouldn't have felt the need to mess with it because that would have been pointless if it wasn't necessary. If your surgeon didn't at least check your pouch then I'd complain, but if they did and didn't feel the need to mess with it then you're fine. Yes, it massively sucks that because they didn't work on your pouch you have your hunger hormone and can eat more than you would right after surgery, so that's bound to be difficult. I, myself, didn't have a revision, but had the full SADI/SIPS/Loop DS surgery 19 months ago right out the gate. It's a powerful tool and malabsorption should work really well for you weight loss as long as you watch your intake. Keep in mind that the protein and vitamin levels necessary are much higher than for the VSG so what you're eating is very important. Also, keep in mind that you're still really early in your revision and there's always that pesky stall that most people get right in the first month of weight loss. Buyers remorse in the beginning is normal. I know I felt it for the first two weeks or so, but I got over it pretty quickly after that and I just wish I'd done it for myself sooner.   5. Hello, On 8-12-21, I had a revision from a VSG to a SADI ( mini bypass). My doctor did not adjust my sleeve and now I’m several days postop and I am left with the same hunger and food intake capability that I had before the surgery. I’m just curious, if anyone else had the SADI that didn’t include an adjustment to your stomach, and if so what was that Experience like for you? Were you satisfied with your weight loss? I’m starting to get concerned, did I choose the wrong revision or surgeon.

  7. My surgeon did not have any pre-op diet either, aside from the clear liquids only the day before surgery. I felt the same as you, though. It felt odd to me to just eat normally and then shock my body and mind like that. Not to mention, I know my digestive system and was worried I'd go into surgery with too much moving along in there that would make me sick after surgery. I knew most people are put on the pre-op diet for liver-shrinking reasons too, and I just did not want to wake up in post-op being told my liver was too large to do the surgery. I really did not want to have to do any pre-op diet though, so I negotiated with myself lol. I put myself on a very low carb diet for just a week. I slowly reduced my caffeine to zero. Then, three days before my surgery, I moved to all clear liquids. The morning of surgery I felt safer by doing that and I had lost a nice chunk of weight even (water weight of course, but still felt good 🙂). As for what I wish I would have prepared for more prior to surgery, water sipping is actually was actually mine. I think it's great you're practicing that. I did not, and had a difficult time dealing with that in the beginning. Your diet plan sounds great and healthy. I wish you all the best as you head towards surgery and beyond.
  8. I was JUST under the 40 bmi mark and they took me. I had kidney disease, arthritis (which interfered with mobility), and I think that was it? No real Comorbidities. they used that initial weigh in to qualify me. As I lost weight I went under that bmi marker but it was fine and I still got the surgery. They only used the initial weight for qualification. it was a long process though because you have to do the options classes, get all the requirements done (ekg, psych screening, support groups), and I had to get my nephrologist to sign off on it so that was an extra step for me. then covid pushed my surgery back…..lol. (I went through so cal Kaiser. I used the south bay facility) I started the process with my doctor referral in March of 2020. I started the options classes in October 2020. I finally got surgery March of 2021. (highest weight 330, surgery weight was 297, and my current weight 5 months from surgery is 235). Goal weight they wanted to see me between 175-190.

    I just went to a concert and was able to buy a shirt too! I mostly wear xl now but they didn't have an xl in the one I wanted so got large and it fit. I couldn't believe it! It is so cool to be able to buy a concert shirt! It sounds like you are doing great with your weight. You're almost back down to where you were before your hip surgery. That is a big surgery to go through! I know what you mean about still seeing a bigger person when I look in the mirror. It is hard to look and the mirror and not see the bigger person, but sometimes I get a glimpse of myself and don't recognize myself. And just remember, those smaller clothes don't lie!!     September Surgery Buddies!!

    Class was good - pretty much everything the weight loss center has gone over already, so nothing really new. They do talk about getting ready the night before surgery and the morning of, which was new to me (never had surgery before). And also the meds they’ll prescribe for right after surgery (i.e. anti nausea, pain killers, etc.). It was only about 45 mins to an hour long.

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

    I have to admit I don’t like my weight right now. I was at 182lb one day of hip surgery and was back up to 195 after surgery but my surgeon said it was swelling n water retention. I am today down to 188lb so I am going back down and there is still a good amount of inflammation on my hip n thigh so I am confident he was right. I still unfortunately see myself the same way I saw myself in the mirror at 286lb however I do know mentally I am smaller. I can wear a size 12 jeans and size large or x large shirt. I was at The Hella Mega Tour the other night and I was excited not only because of seeing my favorite but I was at the t shirt stand and for once in my life I knew I could pretty much have any T-shirt I wanted because for once I didn’t need some crazy 3x or 2x shirt n still worrying that it would not fit the way I like. I think I may never like my reflection in the mirror but I do know I am in a better place health wise then before. I am so happy for everyone. Keep on doing good and don’t be strangers 🙂
  12. It wouldn’t hurt and would give you a little preview of your post surgery diet. I did not find the pre-surgery diet too much of an issue. The extra protein really (and surprisingly) filled me up. I say go for it and get a jump on the weight loss. Your plan sounds feasible. If for some reason you don’t stick to it or “cheat”, just remember that this diet wasn’t mandatory for you in the first place.
  13. they'll have you taking calcium and vitamin D after surgery (probably for life), so that usually helps to prevent it. So does healthy eating and weight-bearing exercise (e.g., walking, running, weight lifting...) I have osteoporosis, but I'm in my 60s and also, it runs rampant in my family (or at least in the women). I don't know how much of a factor my bypass was (if at all) since I didn't have a baseline done before surgery.
  14. For those of you who had to have the band removed first then wait a couple of months for your bypass - did you gain weight? Ive kept most of my weight off which ive lost but some has returned.     WHERE ARE MY AUGUST 2021 PEEPS?

    So glad to hear all my August surgery peeps are doing well! I go in tomorrow morning at 5:30AM and am finding myself in my emotions today. Tons of worries and just the emotional toll of knowing I need to go to this extreme to lose weight. I keep telling myself my last 10-15 years have proven I need a tool to help me stay healthy and I know it's the right thing. It's like this unexpected last minute wave of shame and guilt. I hate the thought of putting anyone out and my husband will be bearing the brunt of this with extra childcare, chores, errands, etc. I thought I could get through this without a therapist, but I am seeing now how that will be a helpful resource. I can only imagine the emotions that will come with this lifestyle change and the changes my body will be going through. Trying to breathe, stay focused and look to the future today.     July 2020 Surgery anyone?

    Hello all! Nice to see this thread active again! I'm doing well. I'm down 173 pounds since my pre-surgery weight of 393. I just got to 219 and I am really looking forward to getting to onederland! My goal is to get to 193 but I'd like to get down to 170 or less ideally. I couldn't be happier so far though and I feel amazing! I don't do any crazy exercise, but just walking and being more active overall. I just turned 50 and I feel like I'm 25 now!     WHERE ARE MY AUGUST 2021 PEEPS?

    My surgery was August 10th, and I’m on blended foods right now so I know what you mean. I feel like I crave food even though I’m not hungry. I am a week away from soft chopped and I am so excited. The ricotta bake did help me feel like I was eating more normal foods. Puréed soups from Panera also helped. They say the head hunger gets better, and I hope so!! I think we’re in a weird stage where we can’t eat what we want, and we don’t see significant weight loss yet so we feel kind of stuck. You’ll do great, we just have to give it time! 🤞

    July 2021 Surgery People!

    Today makes a month since the surgery. I've been struggling with acid reflux during the night, it wakes me up--otherwise, I'm feeling fine. I cannot eat more than 4 bites of anything. I'm living on protein shakes, soup, and scrambled eggs. When I get to school I make the Jimmy Dean egg bowl that also has small bits of sausage and it takes me nearly the whole day to eat it. I take small bites here and there. I don't think I've ever eaten a whole one. But it has 19 grams of protein. I can do that forever if I need to. I'm not the type that needs variety. Yesterday hubby cooked for the kids (they are 31 and 32). I had one fried shrimp, I had to eat it in 3 small bites. Maybe two fries. I've read that my weight loss might be slower since I started out at less than 200. In my mind, that shouldn't matter. If a person goes to eating about 1/8th of what they used to eat --there should be more than a 4 pound loss in a month. This really seals it for me that without the surgery I certainly would have never lost anything. They are delivering my Nordic Track Treadmill Tuesday. I will see if walking helps TOTAL WEIGHT LOSS SINCE SURGERY 4 POUNDS. I am extremely discouraged.

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

    Hello fellow losers! You know how you read that Sleevers lose 80% of their desired weight...well, that's me! I would LOVE to lose another 10-20 pounds, but I'm down 82 pounds and feel GREAT! I did not work out and still don't...but I have been so happy with my results. I keep saying that I am going to get serious and start tracking again...and lose a few more pounds, but then something comes up (like visits, vacations, happy hours, dinners out) and I am just happy to stay below 200 pounds! One-derland!

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

    I’m glad to see this thread popping up again! I was reading it OBSESSIVELY this time last year. 😄 I’m doing well…far better than I imagined I would do. I’m still glad that I’ve done the surgery. I’m down 145 lbs from my pre-surgery weight of 299, and surpassed my original goal. I’ve reset my goal to 145 lbs, so just another 8.4 lbs to go. I honestly don’t know if I’ll hit my new goal, but I’m okay with that. I feel good, I’m off all prescription meds, my resting heart rate is waaaaay down, and a 4-mile daily walk has become a pleasurable habit. I love that my legs look muscular, that I can shop for regular sized clothes and can tie my sneakers without a fuss. I still am very uncomfortable with having non-healthy foods in the house, and don’t trust myself with tempting foods being close by. I worry about ‘boredom eating’ so I’m working on that. I am trying to adhere to the philosophy of making good choices most of the time. I am in the process of figuring out what “most of the time” means to me. I’m working from home so it’s been a slow process of encountering my friends and coworkers. I can see the shock in their faces at my weight loss and just say that it’s been a ‘year of health’ for me. I am continually surprised at all the diet advice / opinions I get from people now, and so much of it inaccurate! I’ve been told that walking for exercise is useless (!), metabolism never changes (I am 55 and it most certainly has), the types of calories consumed doesn’t make a difference (I wish that was true so I could go back to eating more carbs!). It’s all stuff that we’ve all heard before. I’m thankful that I’ve had the past year to log my food and figure out for myself what works. @IWantTheDream I know a hip replacement is in my future, and I worry about that. When did you know that it was finally time to get it done?

    Am I doing this all wrong?

    You need to request another dietician. There are good ones & not so good ones about but you have to find one you’re comfortable with & you feel has your best interest at heart. Mine wasn’t great but she was always supportive, would explain things & made some useful suggestions about things I could try in my diet. I can understand your dietician’s concerns about the psyllium husks - they can be too coarse to eat in the beginning & they tend to swell. If they swell in your tummy they’ll fill you up & you won’t be able to eat as much of the nutrients you need. (Look for non swelling soluble fibre to add to your diet.) But she should have explained this to you. Berries tend to have fewer carbs, less sugar & are lower in calories than bananas & bananas can cause constipation (which we already battle with). Again she should have explained this to you. The bananas & psyllium can be added back to your diet as you progress. Your weight loss will slow as you get closer to your goal & your weight loss will vary week to week. Everyone experiences fluctuations when losing & when maintaining. (I fluctuate about 2lbs in maintenance.) As long as your weight loss trend is going down you’re doing great. My protein goal while losing was 60g. In maintenance I was told it should still be 60g. By my current weight it should be about 40g based upon the 0.8g per kg of weight recommendation. I average about 55g. There is no right or wrong way to consume your calories & meet your protein goals. Some eat three meals a day, some snack, some graze on smaller meals, some do combinations. I had two snacks a day (afternoon & after dinner - fruit, cheese &/or yoghurt) from about month 3 or so. Helped me get my protein in. I still snack about 4 times to get my protein & calories in or sometimes I graze - finish off an earlier meal. Some need more calories some fewer. I eat about 1200 to maintain my current weight but I’m not overly active, am in my mid 50s & have a smallish frame. I was barely eating 900 calories when I hit my goal at 6 months. But that was me. My dietician was always happy with my food choices & eating habits. We’re all different. You have to find what works for you in regards to diet & eating habits. That’s what your dietician should be helping you to discover & advising you upon while you’re losing & then in maintenance. I hope you’re able to find a better, more supportive dietician.

    Struggling with 2 week milk plan

    Lack toast & told her aunt - hilarious @vikingbeast. You’re suffering withdrawals from caffeine, sugar, carbs, … @Vicks1990. It will get better when you’re over the hump (usually about 5 +/- days). It’s called hell week for a reason! There are several different pre surgery diet plans but just like your post surgical plan it’s best to stick to the one you were given. My surgeon gives different plans to different patients based upon things like starting weight, eating habits, weight loss history, etc. The pre surgical diet is in place for a number of reasons including to shrink your liver so the surgical field can be visualised more easily, lose weight before the surgery (so you’re healthier) & break some of those food addictions & eating habits. (Better to have the withdrawals now then immediately after your surgery when you’ll have other things to manage.) Between the calories you’re eating & your fat stores you have plenty of energy available for your body function as it needs. It’s only two weeks - you’ll get through it.

    The average loss is about 65% of the weight you have to lose (to put you in the healthy bmi range) after (I think) 5 years. Some end up more than this others less hence the average. And it isn’t necessarily the lowest weight you’ll reach. Some regain because they find the diet to maintain at the lower weight too restrictive &/or the exercise regime too demanding & it didn’t fit in with their lifestyle or they felt more comfortable at a higher weight, etc. I had to lose 31kg so I should expect to end up about 20kg lighter at 71kg in 5 years based on the average. I lost about 42kg & have basically maintained that. I’m only in my third year now so who knows what the future will bring. I think some surgeons tell you the average so you won’t have unrealistic expectations but it doesn’t mean that’s where you’ll maintain in the long term.

    1 Month Post Op Weight Loss

    @catwoman7 is absolutely correct. Your rate of loss does slow as you progress so what you’re experiencing is usual. The only difference is some may lose at the higher rate for a little longer some fir a shorter time. Depends upon how much we have to lose & just our individual differences - gender, age, weight loss history, metabolic rate, activity, etc. I wasn’t a big exerciser - just walked on my treadmill. Started off slow & slowly increased to about 20 mins as I felt stronger. Then I struggled with low energy & low blood pressure so I stopped & used resistance bands for a while. As @ms.sss said you may have to lose more before others notice the loss. It seems the more you have to lose, the more you’ll have to lose for others to notice. A good friend noticed after I lost about 15kg - so about halfway to my goal. I was also wearing a straight line dress that had been a little snug (& pulled across my ass) before surgery but was hanging loosely when she saw me.
