Did I Stretch My Stomach Back Out????
FamilyGuyNJ replied to kellkizzle21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At two weeks I was able to drink 3 sizeable gulps at a time. I would finish a 32oz Powerade Zero in about 40 minutes. I was worried that I was taking in too much too fast and that the sleeve wasn't giving me the restriction I needed. Needless to say, I was worried about nothing. If anything, I am fortunate, because I never had trouble staying hydrated and my restriction is in full effect when I eat. Good luck to you! -
Yeeeesss, 30lbs in 2 weeks is freaking awesome!!! ???????? Good luck with the surgery and keep us update. ???? Sent from my SM-N920T using the BariatricPal App

Consultation Tomorrow for VSG
MissKay replied to misskim80's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it really varies with each person and the type of job you have. I, myself, took 2 weeks off. 1 week for the surgery itself, and the recovery (2 nights in the hospital, 2 in a recovery house). And then I took an additional week off because my job can be physical (lifting 50lb bins regularly), and I didn't want to risk anything with my incisions, nor the fact that I had been on liquids only for 2 weeks prior and 2 weeks after surgery, which meant my energy wasn't really there. I was extremely grateful for those two weeks, because by the time I went back I was on purees and was able to have a whole lot more energy. -
Gaining and losing the same 2 pounds
FatJuicyMouse posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have lost about 21 pounds since surgery, 30 if you count pre op. Give or take the two silly assed pounds that keep doing an encore. This has been going on for two and a half weeks. If you average out the weight loss, I have lost a teeny bit over 2 pounds a week. And this is supposed to be the time of the fastest weight loss? It slows down from here? I am into my third month and I am starting to panic here. I don't feel any restriction when I eat but have realized that early on and measure and log every morsel of food that goes in my mouth. I wasn't given a specific carb or calorie guideline or even a minimum protein requirement. I try to get 60-80 gm of protein and usually get under 70 gm of carbs (30 gm of which are from the stupid chewable supplements!). The carbs I get are from dairy and whatever is found in green beans and cooked spinach and the occasional half cup of blueberries in my yogurt. I haven't given in to my chocolate addiction because I know that is a slippery slope for me and I am really trying to ignore the onslaught of goodies that are eaten in front of me. I dropped two dress sizes in a hurry and then stayed in one for five weeks. I just got down to the next size but only in stretch jeans. No stretch = no button (or even a meeting of the minds!) I have assaulted my body by preparing for solid food by going to the dentist and getting my teeth ready to chew. That kinda backfired since I lost all my molars on one side after already having only one upper and one lower that meets on the other side. I had to have my teeth scaled (one step away from root canal) and then had two teeth pulled in the space of two weeks. Maybe after I already went under the knife for the sleeve my body decided it has had enough abuse? -
Gaining and losing the same 2 pounds
FatJuicyMouse replied to FatJuicyMouse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did measure last week and found I went UP in some places so I quit in the middle. Kinda like putting a hand over your face at a horror movie... I did notice I don't have to have the seat so far back I can barely reach the gas pedal. I have a little bend in my knee now. The old man has to put the seat back before he even gets in the car or he will have his nose in the windshield. Just wait until I get to my goal waist! -
Gaining during surgery
aquitenonnymouse replied to michelle4873's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep, I gained a bunch from surgery. It's just the fluids your body is retaining to help heal itself. Don't worry about it! Step on again in a week and you'll be amazed! -
Gaining during surgery
JennyBeth replied to michelle4873's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My advice is to not even step on the scale at least for a week or two. The same thing happened to me and I also hardly lost anything for the first 3 weeks so then I became really upset that the sleeve wasn't going to work on me. Then finally I started losing and I've lost 30 pounds and I'm 6 weeks out on Wednesday. Stay off the scale until you start noticing your clothes starting to get loose! -

Gained 2 lbs on Mushies
Sharpie replied to Ms.Vickie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are in the healing phase.. do what is the best for you to do that... skip the scale for awhile.. My dr. said don't be weighing yourself for the first 4-6 weeks.. You will lose and will be at goal before you know it.. I know it's tough and you are scared that you are not going to be successful.. but believe me it will work...take care of yourself.. -
Can't imagine being full
Hammer_Down replied to sill21's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@pminshew I had surgery Oct 27, I started at 250lbs, 5'8" BMI 36. I'm down 46 lbs as of this morning, but I worked all night and will do my scheduled weigh in tomorrow after sleeping. I'm thrilled to be down 46 lbs in 41 days, I haven't experienced any stalls yet and I am eating an all natural (no packaged foods, no frankenfoods) super low carb approach. -
Same. My surgeon insists that if the sleeve is done correctly, all the stretchy part (or the fundus) is removed leaving only the muscle which won't stretch. Natural relaxing will occur, but he advised me that I would never be able to eat more than 2 cups in a sitting -- 6-8oz of protein' MAX. At three years and three months out, I have found that he is wrong. There is no way I can eat two cups of anything except popcorn' and 4oz of protein' is my limit. If I push it to 6, there is a high probability it is coming back out.

Hi there... HumbleMom here. Am Pre-Op RNY - waiting for insurance approval. Most likely will have surgery next month (2/2014.) Was born and raised in Memphis, TN and am still here. Have been a wife for almost 21 years ~ looking forward the next 21+. Mother to 3 children, one of whom passed away at 8yrs ~ more about this in future blogs. Am happy in general ~ my life is full of love and laughter, family and friends and all those little positive intangibles we tend to take for granted. My faith is intact, meaning my relationship with God has weathered the death of my son. God and I are good ~ I have MANY questions for Him, but I also have to thank Him for all He's done for me and for all He continues to do for me. For financial reasons, I dabble in cybersecurity. For fun, I read, cook (sometimes healthy, sometimes not), needlepoint and am learning to play Bridge. We have three dogs, all different sizes, all rescues, all quirky and all amazingly lovable. You can see from my profile that I'm a big girl. Like just about everyone else here, I didn't get this way overnight. My weight crept up on me over time, over pregnancies, over typical stress, over unbelievable stress and over many a wonderful meal shared with good friends. Also like just about everyone else, I'm a very well educated obese person. I KNOW Weight Watchers inside and out and have been very successful with it over the years, having lost (and regained) myself several times over. Jenny Craig and I have been good friends, albeit never for long. I've tried Nutrisystem and Medifast ~ ordered the products, received them, organized the cupboards to house them, tried them for a few days and then promptly sold the remaining items on eBay. I've walked, done couch-to-5k, done pilates, attended exactly ONE Bikram yoga class (WHAT was I thinking??? If you are a Bikram fan, my hat's off to you!), used a personal trainer, worked out in a members only gym, worked out at my office gym, walked some more and then walked even more. And like just about everyone else, each new this-will-change-my-life endeavor has proven successful (except the Bikram yoga!). I've lost weight, I've toned muscles I never knew I had and I've increased my endurance more than I ever thought possible. UNTIL… I wasn't losing or toning anymore because I'd stopped. I'd stopped because I ~ well, that's part of this puzzle. Why DID I stop? I don't know. I seriously need to find a counselor who can help me with this strange dance of mine with food, exercise and health. Know of anyone in the Memphis area? Please share! So, long story short, I'm hoping this surgery will be the missing tool from my arsenal of knowledge needed to become a healthier me. While it will be nice to look more attractive, I'm here for other reasons. I want to be able to hike and climb volcanoes with my sons. (True story ~ more later!) I want to quit the daily meds for cholesterol, blood pressure, GERD and depression. Or maybe I should say I want to trade those meds for vitamins, calcium and b12 supplements! I don't want my family to bury me because I literally ate myself to death. Much better to perish on the side of a volcano, right? I'm tired of walking into a large department store filled with beautiful clothes and being relegated to shop from the Women's sizes hidden away in the tiny corner of the basement. I mean, come on. NOTHING tastes that good! I have 'eaten' my way into that corner and I'm tired of it. Those clothes in the other 90% of the store are much, much cuter! I want to shop from THOSE racks. Actually, just knowing I have the choice to shop from those racks is enough for me. I'll probably end up at the consignment store anyway. Well, that's me in a nutshell. Obviously a fan of lists! I need to get to know others here. I need support and I want to support you! I need to know I'm not the only one who can't stand a certain type of chewable bariatric vitamin! Won't you please be my neighbor?

I was sleeved 8/29 and for the last couple of weeks I've had horrible insomnia! I just cannot sleep!! I'm so so tired! I'm still off work, going back to work Thursday. I have GOT to be able to sleep. I've been taking my kids to school in the AM, coming home and eating a little Breakfast and then finally filling asleep at about 9am. I may call my surgeon and ask if I can take an OTC sleep aid of some kind.

It's Over And Done With - Surgery July 2Nd
TinaMari replied to kia's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I totally understand where you're coming from. I decided not to tell anyone who I don't think will be supportive. And unfortunately, that included my family members. Only three people know that I am scheduled for surgery and that is because I need drivers to and from the hospital! lol. If I could drive myself trust me no-one would know!!! Either way, I am going to have the same dilemma. I think you can just tell people you are on a high protein low calorie diet which consists of lots of exercise! After all, that is not a lie... !? -
My husband and I were banded on the same day which was a total blessing. We have added a lot more exercise to our days. I've actually started getting up at 5:00 am 3 days a week and going to the gym before work. I'm too the point now where I hate missing the gym. It's still hard to keep pushing through work outs, but actually going there on my own is a huge behavioral change for me. My husband and I rarely eat out anymore. We used to eat out at least 3-4 times a week. We find ourselves walking a lot more to get extra steps in (thanks to the fitbit) And if we go to the movies we eat popcorn... but we don't eat a meal in addition to that.

I think most people have gas pains after surgery. I know mine lasted almost a week. -
I'm almost to week 5 and now down 22 since surgery and 32 total. Feel great for the most part! Ready to start the gym but haven't been cleared yet!

Post Op Vitamins
Vance_ replied to scaredoftheunknown's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take two chewable vitafusion 500 mg calcium (tastes like candy - sugar coated), two chewable multivitamins, 2500 mcg sublingual B-12, 1000 mg fish oil (I have to swallow this one...couldn't find anything chewable. I waited until 6 weeks out to start this one.), and 10,000 IU Vitamin D chewable. Hope this helps! -
Hi, am new to this site. I am scheduled for Gastric bypass surgery July 25 at TWH in Toronto. I am excited about my surgery but also apprehensive about the unknown and so have found this site very helpful. I have been on Optifast for 14 days, 7 more to go. I am a little disappointed that I am Only 30lbs down after 2weeks of no food. I have stuck only to optifast shakes & sugar free Jello. Is this comparable to others? I feel very light headed and feel unable to go out to do too much because I need to be close to the washroom! Would appreciate any helpful tips or advice. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

FYI...allergies and hunger
jdmama911 replied to scootergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is awesome you mentioned that!! I was having awful nausea even after a week post op. I went into the doctors concerned about that and something unrelated. At the end of my appt. I asked when I was allowed to go back on my Allegra and my other allergy meds. My PA looked at me and said "Take them and see how you feel tomorrow. I bet your nausea is being caused by post nasal drip." She was totally right. Now, it's been about 10 days and I've been getting hunger pangs and wondering why. I just realized today it's been a few days since I've taken my Allegra!! That's great. First thing in the a.m. I'll be taking it -
I was banded June of '07 and have lost 60 lbs. I still have 60 to go but am getting discouraged. Up until a few months ago I was getting excellent restriction. The restriciton started to "wear off" so I went in for a fill. :sad_smile:The last two fills I had haven't made much of a difference in my eating. I go again next week for a fill but I am already worried it will not work. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what did you do to get out of this rut?

FYI silicone strips to minimize scars
GaGrl replied to Pammy S Lewis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I saw those too, but went with a cheaper option. I bought a $1.50 pure Vitamin E stick. I think it is working. I am now 4 weeks out & my incision sites are beginning to take on a lighter tone. (I started using twice a day as soon as sites were healed over) Keep me posted about the strips, I am wondering how they work. Best of luck to you! -
Had lunch a few days ago with some friends/former co-workers. One of the five of us is underweight, one is pretty much on target, two of us are wls patients (both still overweight, but nothing like pre-op) and then there's the other one. She is the nicest, smartest woman. But she is SO deep in denial. She actually said that her weight problems are not the result of overeating, because she doesn't eat very much. I used to have lunch with this woman on a daily basis. She eats much. Really much. And, as she was explaining that she doesn't eat much, she was finishing a HUGE beef-dip sandwich and fries. This is NOT a woman of limited intelligence. She is a bright woman, a professional, has multiple degrees, and has professional siblings. (She also has a husband with food-related medical problems and some kids at normal weight and other who are obese.) But, her BMI has got to be well, well over 50. She is really big, but says she's healthy and athletic. Question: Now that YOU have had surgery or are considering it, how do you handle conversations with friends like mine? She's still in her 40's and I'd love to see her get healthy while she's relatively young. (I'll be 57 in a couple of weeks...she looks VERY young to me.) Do I pretend that she's right? Do I assume that because portion sizes are so big, she really thinks that she eats reasonable amounts of food? Do I let her think she's convincing me, when I don't believe a word of it? Right now, I just respond with, "Well, you know better than anyone else how you feel." What do y'all do? Sue
