  1. Hi, I felt decent the day of surgery and the day after. The first week, I was not close to drinking recommendations from my doctor. Now I can sip 8OZ of chicken broth, protein soup, cream of wheat, in 25 minutes without discomfort. Trying to drink water, up two 50oz a day, today is Day 7 Today, I will be at 80 oz of protein. Saw my doctor on day 5, he says I am doing great. Walking a 1/2 mile twice a day.
  2. You're doing great! Based on your starting weight, your current calorie intake & you're a guy the lbs can drop quite a bit the 1st few weeks. Enjoy your head start. If the scale slows down a bit soon don't be discouraged. Your body will probably need to catch up and regroup at some point.

    I didn't have a BM for 2 weeks [emoji90]
  4. Yes. It will depend on how you are healing/recuperating and his protocol. If you are ever unsure or unclear, always ask for clarification. Some doctor's do a blanket 6 weeks post-op, others 3 months. It will vary program to program. My doctor said everything is OK and I'm much better. But he didn't tell me when I can do my exercises ????...

    Any Crossfitters In Here?

Crossfit is intense. I waited 8 weeks to do it again after surgery. It still kicks my ass every time - and I love it!!
  6. You are probably right - you are not at your sweet spot yet. It is critical in the first year to get to see your doctor about once every 4-6 weeks so you can: 1. get to proper restriction 2. review your eating habits and get suggestions on improving and breaking old habits 3. make sure you are following the doctor's "rules" 4. make sure everything is good with the surgery - no port problems, etc. So, to give you a kick start, make an appointment with your doctor! Next, are you drinking with your meals? If you are, this could account for the volume increase. If not, try putting down your fork/spoon between bites, and putting your appropriate amount of food on a small(dessert size or kid's size ) plate. When you have finished eating what is on your plate, you are done. Since you're not hungry this will probably help you get your portion size down. Next, if you eat in restaurants, and do not order a kid's meal, have them bring you an extra plate and just take what you are going to eat on the plate in front of you.(same idea as the dessert size plate) Either have the rest put in a "to go" box, or have it removed from the table, or you can, as I often do, put salt, sugar or ketchup on it to ruin it totally so you will not be tempted to eat more than is on your plate. Finally,(for now anyway) look at your food choices - are you using "food lube" so you can get down higher volumes? Are you choosing good dense protein? Those are just a few ideas. I'll be glad to offer any other help I can. Check out this article about using your tool at Lap Band Rules Or How I Use My Tool You may find it helpful.

    Chicago Sleevers

I had my sleeve at Loyola University Medical Center almost a year ago 12/23/2013......went home on Christmas Day. My recovery has been textbook, my weight loss slow. So far I have gone from 235 to 170, which is more than I have ever or could have done on my own. My goal is 135, which was my healthiest adult weight, but I would feel good at 150. Since I am retired, I did not have to worry about getting back to work. From your picture, it looks like you have the advantage of youth. The hardest part about my journey was the pre-op waiting and waiting and waiting for the process to move along. If you have no complications, you may still feel kinda cruddy for the first couple of weeks. As the pounds fall off, you will feel better and better. You have many non-scale victories (NSVs) to look forward to. I wish you good luck and good health. PS, I am a little familiar with Mercy Hospital, such as it was in 1992. I supervised housekeepers for about a year until a foot injury caused me to find a sit down job. I remember there being a convent on the 14th floor, and I had been on the roof once at night to view the skyline. My territory was the basement levels with the offices and morgue, the lobby, the ER and clinics.

    1st Day of Pre-Op Diet

Excuse the dumb question, but I need to start somewhere. I see some places have their own pre-opt drinks to buy. If you are going to Mexico, what kind of shakes can you buy. Just any that are high Protein? She said she could probably get me in, in 2 - 3 weeks. If not, then I will have to wait as Im going on a cruise and need to get thru that 6 week post op before I get on the cruise ship. They said then after the cruise I could get the first fill. So should I start the shakes or high Protein Drinks now. Just liquid or can I have other stuff prior to the surgery. I havent found the thread explaining what Im exactly supposed to be having if I have the surgery in 2 - 3 weeks. I turned in the application last night and she acted like she would know by today, but I havent heard anything.
  10. Hey everyone, I have a question. I will be banded three weeks on Tuesday, I have tried to feel my port now that it is not that painful but can't feel it. Does this mean that something happened to it? Shouldn't I be able to feel it? I am still swollen, but if I can't feel it how will they when I go for my first fill? My first fill is not till July 29th. Thanks!

    Am I overfilled?

I had a fill about a week ago and since about that time I have felt like my throat is swelling. I went to my regular doctor and told him about it and that I thought maybe I was over filled with my band and asked if he thinks that could be the issue. He said he thought I was having anxiety and prescribed me Xanax. When I take the medication my throat seems to relax and I dont feel tight anymore but then when it wears off the tightening in my throat comes back. I cant imagine having anxiety every day for a week you would think it would go away if thats what was really going on. I am wondering if I am over filled maybe. I am not really sure though because I dont have trouble eating anything and nothing gets stuck. I am going to call my band doc tomarrow but I dont want to get an unfill if I am just having some major anxiety. I wonder if any of you can give me your opinion on if it sounds like anxiety or a problem with my band.

    October 23rd Sleevers!

Hi! Thankfully, I don't have a clear liquid diet. For the last two weeks it's low fat low carb to shrink my liver. However, the last couple days I haven't really felt like eating much, getting anxious. How have you been fairing with the clear liquids? Tasha

I went back after one week. I teach college so I don't do anything physically strenuous. I don't think I could have done a lot of standing that 2nd week.

Hunger 4 days post op. Normal?

DEFINITELY makes me full. I'm supposed to have 1 Protein (1oz), 1 Tbsp of vegetable and 1 Tbsp of fruit at a meal. But the thing is, those meatballs weigh 1.3oz each basically, so I end up having to not eat my fruit, because I get full just on the meatball and a Tbsp of potato...but that's okay! I get my fruit when I have chili and four cut green Beans from a can...that leaves me room for fruit. Or I'll have fruit with my egg. But right now I'm on a real meatball and potato kick, I love that combo. I'm the kind of guy who can eat the same thing over and over again if I like it, I don't need a ton of variety. Also, I bought a tub of the pre-made mashed potatoes in the deli section and then later realized that if I only eat it a Tbsp at a time, I'm gonna end up throwing most of it out before it goes bad. So I'm trying to use as much of that as I can. I'll still probably only get halfway through it, and next time I'm going to buy a box of the powdered potatoes, and then just make it as I go. Cheaper that way. Just one of those things where I was still in the old mindset of portions and didn't even think that it would be WAY too much potato for me to get through in a week or so. We'll see how far I get on it But yeah, liquids go down pretty quick and they pass through the stomach into the intestine pretty quick, but even chewing up my food to puree consistency, it stays in the stomach longer. They said to wait 45 minutes after eating to drink again, and when I do that I still feel like I've got food in there and can't drink that much at a time. I think it helps "grease the wheels" to help the food go into the intestine though, because after 10 minutes or so I am drinking fine. So far, so good. But after almost four weeks of nothing but liquids, I REALLY appreciate having something with flavor I enjoy and texture, and the need to chew! And I have to say, it is bewildering but also kind of awesome that I hardly need anything to feel full. My food expenses have been annihilated by this surgery

    Any Crossfitters In Here?

That's what I was thinking, 6-8 weeks. I start my pre-op 2 week diet in 5 weeks so will stop then. Can't imagine I'll have the energy. I'm at B.T.S Crossfit, NSW (Afew hours north of Sydney)

Injured by Jose Rodriguez and "Team"

I'm sorry for what you are going through. I went throught a similar situation with Dr. Fransico Gonzales in TJ Mexico. I was banded by him in April of 2007, by June 2007 it started to get infected in the port area. Everytime I went in to see him about it all he did was give me a prescription for Cipro or Keflex and send me home. I trusted them at first but it went on for 4 months, then two hospital stays of four weeks in total in the US, everything was removed because it was eroded into my stomach. Please get a endoscopy done to make sure the band has not eroded into your stomach, becuase the doctors here said the infection travels from the band to the port area and when that is going on the:sad_smile: band is most likely eroded, and you could die from that because all the toxins will seep from your stoach to your body. I almost died. Please see my thread "banded by dr. gonzales almost died".

Hola from the NW side. I'm not a recent sleeve, it's been 7 months. Good luck with yours. I had a really easy recovery, didn't need to use the pain meds they sent me home with, and was back at work within a week. I'm sure you'll be fine!
  20. Ok..title says it all I am supposed to be on a semi all liquid diet for 10 days. Under 40 gm carbs daily. I have been doing Protein shakes w Almond milk (next to nothing carb wise), broth, Jello an a few sugar free fugsicles (19gm for 2) I am type 2 and am really strugglung. MY surgery is in one week. They told me 2 weeks for pre op diet due to my weight assuming my liver would be huge Would I screw things up if I ate a piece or 2 of chicken? I cannot imagine that 10 days of 800-1000 cals w < 30-40 GM carbs and the rest protein that a few pieces of chicen would stall my liver shrinkage or cause it to balloon after shrinking some. or would it? I am really not looking for a license to cheat or whatever, like people asking can't I have a piece of wedding cake. I am serious about this and in for the long haul, but I am nearly seeing double and cannot stay awake. I have one more week of this and struggling any thoughts? I would hate to travel cross country (going to Mexico actually) and get there and they tell me they can't operate...I am not going to blow it over a piece of chicken! But what is the reality of what can be tolerated? Thanks for ideas ad experiences
  21. I'm three months post-surgery and I've been trying to avoid buying clothes because I've burned through three sizes so quickly. But my husband and I are traveling this month and I've been walking around NYC having to hitch my favorite--and only--jeans up. So I ducked into a store tonight, bought the next smallest size (12) and ... they are also too big on me. I haven't been in a 10 since high school. I haven't updated my weight because I've been away from my home scale now for three weeks. Can someone pinch me and tell me this is real. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Nsv For Me!

Great job!! As for the difference in cup size, chances are you weren't wearing the proper one before hand. I noticed in the bigger sizes, that there is much more "wiggle room" in the sizes then there are in the smaller ones. Still, a great feeling to know you haven't lost "there" (at least yet lol). And YES... 49lbs in 9 weeks is great!

    Need support, regret and scared

I'm young, healthy, never used anesthetic during dental work because I had high pain tolerance. The sleeve is by far the most excruciating pain I've ever known. I could barely move for two weeks. I had to call 911 twice when I couldn't get up off the floor because even the slightest bend in my torso was agony. Slept upright and on my back for two months. Incisions hurt for two months. It was torture. It just happens. You never know how your body will respond. You will get through this, you will survive, and the pain will be a distant memory and not matter anymore. Now that I'm closer to my goal and living the life I dreamed of, I'd do it a thousand times over. All you can do is hang on and remember that this too shall pass. The pain is not permanent. It will eventually end. And you're suffering through this for yourself, for your children, for a better life. Hang in there, friend. It sucks right now, but it gets so, so much better.

    Meeting with Dr. Marsden tomorrow

I was banded by Dr. Marsden Sept '06 and he is wonderful! If I remember correctly it is high protein and then within a few days of surgery it is mostly liquid to get shrink the fat on your liver so he can get the band on. But you only have to follow it for approx 2 weeks prior. He is awesome and will take the time to answer all of your questions and concerns.
