    Any NC sleeves!?

Greensboro here. Was a band to sleeve revision on June 1st.
  2. Start getting in better shape now. I walked, lifted, and did as much as I could 5 times a week getting ready for surgery. Started practicing eating slower for lunch. Watched many videos, talked to people who had been through it. Oh, but best work was preparing for the mental changes with my therapist and worked through this book: http://www.amazon.com/Emotional-First-Aid-Kit-Practical/dp/0976852659/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1436729032&sr=8-13&keywords=bariatric+book If you drink, like I did, you need to assess how to wean yourself off. Ditto cigs, and slowly cut the caffeine. Don't try to cram it into the final week, you will feel horrible, just put it on a calendar and do it in a controlled manner. Followed the pre-op diet to the letter Shopped two weeks before surgery for the foods I would need for the first two weeks. Revised my will and power's of attorney just in case something went wrong Tried pureed meal ideas before surgery so I had some meal plans. The result of this work - flawless surgery, up and running a day later, no real drop in energy, and ready for the change. Its been a great ride. Off BP meds/CPAP and the sex is incredible, but that's in a different forum (look up sex, oh my god sex in the men's room if you need motivation).

Band to Sleeve lose more slowly?

Are you still considered a revision if you have two surgeries several months apart?
  4. I had my band in Dec 2009 and yes I lost a good deal of weight...not all that I wanted. I was getting stuck and puking regularly. On April 27 I had my band removed and gastric sleeve revision. I am happy to be free of the band and all of those weird feelings u talked about. The scales are moving again slowly... and I am happy!

    Plantar Fasciitis

OMG I got it after my surgery in both feet. I was working out a lot and still over 220#. I was stretching enough. So I also had Achilles tendonitis with it. It's awful. I went through pt and got cortisone in both feet. I also had to wear a boot which is excruciating. I hope that with my revision and additional weigh loss it solves it. It flares up, but my feet never feel 100% most days. I roll my feet with a golf ball. I also do stretches of my feet and calfs. I did not go back to foot dr. Because I know my weigh is gonna come up.
  6. Unfortunately I was not advised the GERD could get worse. Originally my doctor was going to perform the RNY but at the last minute he changed his mind and said he thought it was best for me to have the VSG. Since I was on the fence I agreed. I mean he is the doctor and should know best. Little did I know I would end with all the complications. ???? But believe me this time I am drilling every one I see for information. I would have a revision to a RNY if I have a good chance of getting better & jerking the weight down. I had labs recently with a metabolic panel and my thyroid is ok. So I know is not that. ????

    Who Are You?

Thanks for sharing. I am a married mother of 3 boys(20,16 & 12). I work as a nurse.Recently obtained my MSN. I have a lapband now. I am planning to travel to Mexico for revision to sleeve. In my spare time I enjoy relaxing because I am too tired to do anything else. I am looking forward to becoming active again.

    Stall nine weeks out

Hey!! I am an April 27th date too! I was a band to sleeve revision and my roommate and I went to Mexico on the same date. She is losing faster than I am but from what I have read on forums that is standard. I am very happy with where I am. I had a long stall too, and I didn't change anything... just stayed the course. My scale is slowly moving again... but honestly even when the scale didn't show it, I could feel the progress in the way my clothes fit and my ability to cross legs, paint my toes, etc, We got this!!

Band to Sleeve lose more slowly?

ladivaluz806, Congratulations on your 30-lb weight loss and your smaller size! Revisions can lose weight more slowly than first-timers, but you are doing great, whether or not you feel like you are losing weight more slowly than non-revision patients. You’re on track to hit your goal within well under a year, and that’s something very few patients can do! It sounds like you have a good attitude about this. Savor the process and be proud of yourself, and take notes of what works so well for you so you can refer to your notes once you hit maintenance!
  10. I got my band in 2009 too. Just had my band-to-sleeve revision in Mexico on 4/27/2015. I am very happy. The band saved me health-wise so I can't regret it, but I was so tired of puking and feeling stuck and I was no longer losing. The sleeve has been great and I am losing again! Good luck... you won't regret it!

    10 Weeks Post-OP

So, I just decided to blog and I am at week 10. This is just a recap: Week 1: Mexico was good to me. No surgery issues and felt amazing. Week 2-4: Was not hungry... but did try to maintain protein shakes and water. Week 4- My one month before and after pics were great! Down to 188lbs! Week 5-7: So exhausted!! Got down to 185 lbs and hit a stall. Week 8: No more weight loss, but my 2 month pics are telling a better story. Down from 18/20 to 16 (even some 14). Week 9: Feeling constipated again (ongoing issue since surgery). I use the Smooth Move Tea but it is not smooth.... it makes me sick half the next day, but it works. I have read forums and tried different remedies with no help...so miserable tea it is. Week 10: Scales are moving again! 181 lbs. I also got a FitBit and am starting to exercise more. Should have been exercising more all along but between the tiredness and the rain I was unmotivated. Monday will be Week 11 and I will try to post more details as I go. It has been a challenging time. I am happy with my progress... I read a lot on the forums about revisions being slower to lose. I am so happy to not be puking and back to losing that for right now I won't complain!

    Backstory

This is my story... I have been overweight since age five. I don't recall this specifically, I have just seen the pictures. I never really felt any of the negativity that others associate with being 'fat'. I had friends and did everything I wanted to do. When I hit teen years, I had friends and I suppose I could blame a lack of boyfriends on my weight; but truly, I was shy. I did try every diet imaginable from age 20-36... but nothing really stuck. I liked food and it would always win. Over the years, I became successful in my career in banking and never felt passed over for promotions because of my weight. Life was moving along. But, I began to feel tired... really tired. I was a single mom of a two year old managing a full-time career and a mortgage. I told myself that it was normal. Eventually, I decided to see my doctor. After many tests, I was diagnosed with many things: hypothyroidism, high blood pressure, arthritis, sleep apnea, etc. All these things were manageable with meds... but the root seem to lie in my weight. I got medically approved for LapBand. I had surgery in Dec 2009. At my heaviest I was 262 lbs. I did lose a lot of weight and got my energy back. I stopped all my meds (not with my dr support). I landed at 199-210 range and stayed there for years. The band had been amazing for my health, but I did throw up occasionally and have "stuck" moments. Eventually... it was a regular occurrence. So, in May 2015, I decided to have my band removed and revise to gastric sleeve. My friend and I went to Mexico together and had the surgery. I weighed 211 before surgery. The surgery went great and I am happy to be free of the band and looking forward to getting to a healthy BMI.
  13. Hi @amulchahey, how are you doing? How's recovery? I just discovered this forum and was looking for other MA friends I'm in Acton, but I work for a non profit and drive all over the state, regularly! I am getting a revision from Band to Bypass on July 20 at Mount Auburn. I'd love to meet up a few weeks after my surgery. After I had the band done in 2009, I met some really fantastic people, and really loved having an in person support network. My friends and family are fantastic but no one really gets it unless they have gone through it too. Hope you are feeling well and seeing some progress
  14. My husband should be having his Band to VSG revision in late September or early October. He wants to run the Disney Dopey Challenge in January 2017, so 15 months post sleeve. The Dopey is. 5k Thursday, 10k Friday, half marathon Saturday and full marathon on Sunday. He is not at all worried about the distances, but his concern is being able to consume enough calories/carbs and hydration to make it through all of those miles. Any WLS marathoners out there who could provide some insight and guidance. This past January he did the Goofy challenge which was the half and full. He walked it but finished within the time limits. 80-100 pounds lighter, the stress on his body will be so much less, and he will be able to run at least some of it. Thanks! Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)

My name is Belinda. I am a RN. Worked in NICU,Peds, and Geriatrics. Started out as a CNA working in LTC for 10 plus years before graduating from nursing school. Excited about going to Mexico for lapband to sleeve revision. I have not set a date yet. I look forward to sharing my journey with you.
  16. I had revision done all in one surgery-best for me. No complications. The incision where they took the port out hurt the most Like the others--I am so glad to have that thing out of me. I had stomach pain daily with the band. BUT eating with the sleeve was very different than the band for me. With the sleeve I struggled with knowing when to stop eating. With the band I knew immediately if I had eaten too fast or too much. The sleeve was much more subtle for me and I ended up vomiting sometimes immediately after eating too fast or too much. Or even 15 minutes later. I had to learn to stop a long time BEFORE I felt any fullness. If I do that I'm fine. The weird thing was that too much food is not very much food so that was hard for me. Best wishes to you all!

    Before and After Sleeve Scars

This my big incision from my lap band surgery 3 years ago. It was 3 inches across. I had two others that were less thank an inch, but I can't even find them anymore. If my sleeve scars end up looking the same 3 years from my upcoming revision, I'll be happy????
  20. First off my heart goes out to you with such an extensive medical history, and chronic extreme pain. I can't imagine how agonizing it must be on a daily basis. There are so many contributing factors to your symptoms that's it's hard to say if a revision to a RNY would bring about the results you're hoping for. It's going to be a blind risk either way, with no guarantee of improvement. But I will say this. There are some who chose the sleeve and then started suffering severe GERD/reflux issues afterwards, who then revised to the RNY and experienced a marked improvement. I had never even known it was a possibility myself until reading the posts here. It's part of the reason why I switched my decision from sleeve to RNY myself. Which I'll be getting in a short while. Let me stress that GERD doesn't happen to everyone, but when it's *you*, I know you'd do anything to get away from its devastating effects. It is not a pleasant way to live. I hope whatever you decide in the end that it brings you the answer you are seeking. Good luck!

    Goal?

I started my journey at a low bmi... just barely insurance acceptable at 223 and 5 foot 2 and 1/4. My pre op final weight was 203 and today 12 days out i am 189. I told my doc on my in inital visit that I wanted my goal at 150. I can't remember being 150 ever! Well maybe in the 5th grade when I was the "fat girl " I've since revised that to 130. By ideal weight by medical standards is 128. I can't picture myself that small but I'm shooting for 130 but I won't be disappointed if I don't quite make it there.

    Food stuck - suggestions?

I'm revising from the band to bypass--and it is mostly due to the fact that almost everything I have eaten for 6 years gets stuck. Its a miserable feeling! But here are the tips I have learned along the way: 1.) I NEVER try to push food down with liquid. It literally will only bring the liquid up. I only drink when I am at my wits end and know that vomiting the food up is the only way to get relief, but it's a last resort. 2.) Get up and move. The sitting position does not help the food settle. 3.) After a "stuck" episode go onto shakes/liquids/yogurt for at least 12 hours to let everything heal. Your esophagus just had a traumatic events, and if it doesn't rest, it's likely to happen again the next time. Hope that helps, and I sincerely hope it doesn't happen again!
  23. I seriously think you should consider the revision to RNY. If you aren't the perfect example of someone who needs a revision because of GERD and other problems, I don't know who is. I'm so sorry you are and have had to go through all that. You're a strong person. Stronger than I would be. Good luck and keep us posted! Hang in there!

    What did your breast's do?

Ha, I was just taking my measurements this morning and wondering the same thing. I was banded 6 years ago and lost 60+ pounds. My boobs definitely went down in size, but they stayed relatively big, but as I age, they are heading South. I can hike them up with quality bras, though, so I've survived so far. I am slated for revision to RNY next week and hope to lose the last 50 pounds. I'd venture to guess that about 15 of those pounds are in my boobs! I wouldn't mind if they disappear...I'm actually more nervous that they will stay big, on what I hope will be a tiny body!

    Looking for other newbie friends!

Awesome! Congratulations! To me, recovery has seemed so much easier this time in some ways, and harder in others. Maybe because I already knew what kind of pain to expect but there hasn't been a great deal of pain in my abdominal area where the actual surgery was performed- just soreness. But the most of my pain was in my lower right side that the doctor said was coming from my back. He said it was probably from the unforgiving hard operating table. That being said, I was in the hospital 5 days, but when I was banded I didn't even stay one night. To me it was so much better staying in the hospital those first few days. And maybe that's why my pain was so much less! I had a pain medicine in a pump I could administer every 10 minutes! Overall, recovery has not been as bad as I thought it would be. I'm pretty lucky though- I'm a teacher and am on summer break. If I get tired, I can take a nap and have been able to take it easy. Glad to be your buddy! How is your pre op going? Thanks, that's really helpful information. I am not sure how long my stay will be, but certainly longer than when I was banded. I was in and out in 8 hours, which seemed a little extreme. My pre-op is kind of no big deal, because I thankfully haven't gained much weight back from when I was banded, so I was actually advised to put weight ON so that insurance would approve the revision. How awful is that? The medical system in this country really is not looking out for our overall health (but I can rant on that another time...). Happy summer vacation! I was an elementary teacher for 15 years, but now I am working for an educational non-profit. I sure do miss those summers! Keep in touch and let me know how you are doing!
