I get my chewable multi Vitamins there. They are very comparable to the bariatric ones. I just need to take a Calcium citrate supplement. And best part is they are under $6. Also love there tomato and roasted red pepper Soup, mediterranean hummus, frozen roasted veggies with balsamic sauce, frozen green Beans and cheeses. They used to have a wonderful bruschetta but I can't find it anymore. Two other things I love but can't eat anymore are their store brand of honey greek yogurt and the Just Clusters granola.

My taste tests of protein drinks and bars
mickeymammoth replied to mickeymammoth's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
So I found a bunch of new Protein bars to try. I don't know if these will be a regular part of my diet or not, but they might be good on the run meals. These were all around 10-12g of protein, but the calorie counts were generally lower than some other bars, so you have to take that into consideration. Winners: Detour Biker and Detour Runner bars. My favorite flavors were chocolate Chip Cookie and Lemon Yogurt. I didn't care for Chocolate Peanut Butter, Toffee Almond, or Raspberry Chocolate. These are approx. 200 calories with 12g protein. 3.5g - 7g fat. I thought the Kashi GoLean Rolls were OK, but kind of bland. The Balance apricot mango was good, but the texture was too hard to chew for me. Detour core strength and Karma bars were yucky. -
I think the doctors are crazy in thinking we can get by without snacks. The obesity clinic where I get my fills at even recommend a snack. I normally eat breakfast at 6:00 am and then around 9:30 or 10 have a lite snack. Then have lunch around noonish and a late afternoon snack. Dinner is usually 6ish and then I'm fine. I'm not one who has problems with eating before bedtime. The key with this is to have a healthy snack. It might be a lite string cheese or a lite activia yogurt, a handful of dry roasted edamame, or 1/2 serving of 100 cal bag of popcorn. Even with my snacks I'm able to keep my calories between 800-1000 most days.

Anyone Willing to Mentor/Buddy a Jersey Girl?
jetti replied to Tracyde730's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was on a the Clear liquids for a week so I was surviving on sugar free Jello, ice pops, chicken broth and water/crystal light. really I didnt have the appetite to even want some other then that. the one thing I can say is that for the chicken broth I originally bought swansons broth and when I tried it I wanted to gag. the flavoring was just horrible so I moved on to the lipton packages of Soup that you add to Water and would just drink the broth. Im sure it was not as healthy as the basic chicken broth but it worked for me and the flavor made it easier to eat for lunch and dinner. I honeslty cant remember eating/drinking anything else. A lot of people call the liquid stage "bandster hell" but I have to say that it was not that bad. You will survive and the pay off will be so worth it. for the full liquid stage I added a little bit of sugar free pudding and yogurt to the mix but still pretty much stuck with the broth as my "meal" I also suggest having a heating pad handy for any gas pains that you may experience. I had no gas pains until a week out when I was helping a friend bake Cookies and from mixing the dough by hand I guess I bought the gas up to my shoulder...not fun. the heating pad did help with some of the pain. also make sure you have some comfy pajama pants. you may be a little swollen so you dont want anything that is going to be tight on your belly. if I think of anything else I will let you know and if you have any other questions feel free to ask. hope this helps -
A different kind of frozen yogurt...
SherryW replied to georgia girl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Georgia Girl....sounds like a great idea. The yogurt didn't get too crystally doing that? If not that might just be a great thing for me to try especially with summer coming. I don't really care for alot of the frozen yogurts out there, I find them too sweet but, I do enjoy regular yogurt so if it make is just thicker I might just have to try that :w00t: Thanks! -
A different kind of frozen yogurt...
SherryW replied to georgia girl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks! I bought some yogurt yesterday so I'm going to try that later today :huh2: Worth a shot! -
I don't even know when I started eating a yogurt everyday . . . but I did - and the other day I was looking at the label for some other reason, and the dang CARBS caught me totally by surprise . . . OMG . . . I stopped eating them daily, and the scale has started to move again. (I know, I know - if I logged my food . . . yadda yadda yadda - it ain't going to happen in my lifetime) . . . Anyway . . . maybe it's just coincidence and it was about to move anyway - but the only way I ever lost weight (preband) was keeping the carbs WAY down . . . and I think they were out of control right now. Wahoo! I'm a happy camper and fading to skinny (alas - very slowly lol). Have a great day everyone! Chris

Helpful tips on creamy and mushy foods
Mandi1441 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got to visit with my coordinator at my first post op Dr. visit. I love the fact that they don't give you the lap band and send you on your way. Each visit we talk with the coordinator about eating, nutrition, and all the changes you are going to go through in your every day life. Guess what?!? I just found out how many carbs are in my yogurt. OMG!!! I was always lead to believe yogurt was healthy and good for you. She showed me an alternative way to eat it and it still tastes great and I can have it on my pureed food week. 6 oz plain greek yogurt 1 packet of splenda coffee flavoring french vanilla (in the coffee aisle) I know I didn't know they had that either! 1 packet of regular splenda Instead of the splenda flavoring you can mix it with flavored Protein powders and up the protein it has. She said Gold Standard casein in creamy vanilla tastes like cheese cake. I love cheese cake! I hope others will share some tips that got them through the pre and post diets, and just everyday since being banded.- 3 replies

Helpful tips on creamy and mushy foods
LessLee replied to Mandi1441's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like to add stevia (or splenda) and cinnamon to greek yogurt. That combo is also good in cottage cheese warmed up a bit. -
I agree the head and the heart have to be dealt with before you make this kind of a plunge so you don't endanger your health. That said... As addicted as I was to cream filled, fatty, sugary, tasty things....my tastes have TOTALLY changed. The other night I went to a tea and I saved my calories all day for it. I decided for the first time to "splurge" a little bit. None of it tasted good at all. The next day I felt like hammered poo. My low carb yogurt and grape nuts tasted SOOOO good!! My head thinks it wants goodies, but my body violently disagrees! Soo....there's that. Everyone is a little different.

The diet is not that exciting, but it is do-able. Initially, I ate quite a lot of yogurt (sugar free, low fat, with tiny bits of fruit) and less cottage cheese. Not a huge fan of the cottage cheese, I got permission to add bits of chopped jalapeno peppers to the cottage cheese - but stopped that by the second week. Started to worry about the hot peppers irritating the stomach, and thus defeating some of the effects of the diet. Towards the end, I didn't need that much yogurt to get filled. But I lost 15 pounds.

Liquid/soft food diet must haves?!
toasty replied to hungry4health's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It all depends on your surgeon though. I am currently in my pre-op diet, and I am only allowed clear liquids and Protein drinks, no solid food whatsoever. No pudding, no pickles, no applesauce, just clear liquids. I have been trying Miso soup (with all of the tofu and other stuff strained out), which has been very tasty (I really like Japanese food). I have also tried chicken broth with Old Bay seasoning added, which is very yummy (nice spiciness to it). SF Jello and SF popsicles, of course. I don't just stick with one Protein Drink, I try different ones to give me some variety (I use Premier Protein and Isopure right now). For me, after surgery (which is this Friday, 9/11) when I get home I will be on "full liquids" for two weeks, which will include milk, blended Soups (like cream of tomato), and yogurt. I can hardly wait! -
Fourth Week Post-op Hunger
kiz replied to srenee99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Two words: Bandster Hell You're swelling has subsided and your band is loose. Try to make healthy food choices, and possibly add a healthy high Protein snack (it was more like a 4th meal), if you're allowed by your doctor and if you can tolerate it well. During this time, I had the same hunger issues, and the NP in my doctor's office gave me several options, such as: Greek yogurt with added All Bran Cereal 1/4 cup tuna w/ 2-4 whole wheat/fat free crackers 1/2 cup of thick chili -
Eating - 3 weeks post op
EarthyGoalie replied to LynRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
According to what I've been told, it sure does sound right! But at 3 weeks, other than the post I made about eating pizza and pasta (do NOT try this at home! I'm a food addict, I didn't resist, and paid the price afterwards)-- anyway, other than that slip up, I was eating 40 to 60 g of protein a day, but my doctor told me that if I could increase, then to do just that! I was having Greek yogurt, and babybel cheese. As well as protein shakes and some string cheese. -
I'm doing much better today. Got a lot of work done at school, so now all I have to do is type up my sub plans. Also bought some of my favorited yogurt this evening. Yoplait has a chocolate cherry whipped that I just LOVE and it really helps with the chocolate cravings. It reminds me of eating chocolate covered cherries at Christmas and that's always a nice feeling. Audra

Looking at June surgery - I hope
ShoppGirl replied to Mariann812's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree that six weeks would be very hard to sustain if it is all liquid or very strict. Mine was not super strict. I was allowed egg whites and meat as well as low starch veggies plus yogurt and sugar free popsicles or jello. I was also allowed free foods like lettuce and pickles. There were a few other free foods but I can only remember making a lot of pickle salads. lol. Those foods were limited quantities too so I was hungry for those pickle salads. You may be able to handle doing something like that for 6 weeks if you wanted to?? It’s basically just low carb which most of have done but with stricter portion sizes than I had ever done. -
I Really like yogurt but every time I go to the store and look at the yogurt, every brand I look at is full of sugar. Can someone recommend a low sugar yogurt? Surgery date 9/4/2013 HW 269 RYN 238, this week 203

Dannon light & fit greek yogurt blends are good. I believe the banana cream has 7 grams of sugar and 12 grams of Protein. Walmart sells them for $1. I'm still preop but I'm hoping I can handle it after surgery.

Too much a piggy piggy for the band to change?!?!
halloween2124 replied to silry's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, you should stay hydrated, my dr told me I should drink 64 ounces of liquid in the first few days, which is no problem I stayed full as long as I had something in me. I went through the hungries as well, and On day 5 i started with yogurt. Today for me is day 8 and I have had cream of wheat, pudding, yogury, eggs, refried beans, queso, mashed potatoes, etc since day 5. Everybody has a different experience and is told something different by their dr. I was not supposed to start on food like that until day 13, BUT, If I'm hungry all time, PLUS the fact that when my stomach growled after the band it HURT, I needed to make sure I stay full. If I were you I'd try to stay on liquids as long as I could, then gradually see what I could tolerate. -
SF Popsicles on Liquid diet?
Sue Magoo replied to nesser081982's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nesser08192: I just looked back at my written liquid pre-op liquid diet. It says that you can have up to 3 no sugar added fudgsicles in a day. However, the sugar free popsicles weren't limited. We could also have up to 3 per day of Dannon Light, Yoplait Light, or Colombo Light yogurt. Hope this helps. You're doing the most difficult part when you're on this stage. Good luck. Sue -

losingit41 replied to losingit41's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am post op day six today of my gastric bypass. Is it normal to crave what my family is eating this early? When reading about other post ops they all say that they don't want food. I'm drinking carnation instant breakfast and Special K shakes for my protein. I also eat yogurt and take my vitamins but sometimes I get so hungry in the evenings. This is somewhat harder than I thought. I'm so scared of messing up. -
Sleeve done on May 16. Experiencing high blood pressure
Tiffany L. replied to Tiffany L.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is good. I’m barely doing the shakes. Trying to have some now but I’m having lots of water. I tried the yogurt but only managed 2 small spoons. It was too heavy for me. Tomorrow I’ll try some broth and try the protein powder with almond milk. Best of luck and keep in touch! Would love to hear from you! -
Oikos Triple Zero Greek Yogurt is a great choice. It's zero added sugar, zero fat, and zero artificial sweeteners.. THANK YOU!

Tonight I had a piece of marinated salmon, broiled. I added some steamed broccoli and 2 Mrs T's pierogies. Dessert was a Key Lime light yogurt. I will have a light string cheese stick before bed.
