  1. I have a question regarding eating yogurt. I have heard/seen tons of people say that eating Greek yogurt is a great way of getting in your protein. I have never really liked Greek yogurt BUT I did find one that wasn't so bad but I'm SURE it's not one that is recommended. I tried the strawberry on the bottom Chobani Greek Yogurt and that wasn't so bad. My question is what kind of Greek yogurt is okay and what should I stay away from?

    New Member - 12 Weeks Post-Op

@Isheshequin thanks for the share. I think I know most of this just hard to get my mind to accept it. Haha. I think I need to stick with what works a while longer like cheese, beans, and greek yogurt. And wait a bit on the meat.

    Food dreams and cravings

Cheri_ mine were about chewing choc chip cookies, the next day I was supermarket sweeping all the goodies, and then later I was eating a spaghetti dinner lol. Wed is my doc day pureed starts then. I think the dreams must be normal. I am so tired of drinking my meals, tomato soup ,yogurt and pudding!!!!

    6 weeks and wanting food

lol--I remember feeling that way. The one thing that helped with the saltiness was drinking some chicken broth. It had a bit of flavor and saltiness that I was craving. And if you add in the unflavored Protein mix, that's even better. Jello wasn't bad either. Sometimes I would mix things into the jello, like cottage cheese, yogurt, that sort of thing. Or try the nonfat, nonsugar, cheesecake flavor jello pudding mixed into the cottage cheese or yogurt. MMMMMmmm.. I know it still isn't what you want but you can't have what you want. Some of them, you can never have (mac and cheese for one!) It is a head hunger and that is the worst! Oh yeah, someone suggested chili--that's still my go-to safe food at restaurants. Or black bean Soup (Panera makes an amazing one). Best of luck and hang in there.

    Food dreams and cravings

I'm also almost two weeks post-op. I had those dreams right after getting home from the hospital. In my dreams, I was binging on food - a dozen donuts, a bunch of tacos, ice cream - the whole time thinking to myself that this is wrong. I asked my doctor if these dreams were normal and he said he never heard of it before! I thought it was just me! I too am craving any texture in my mouth - other than yogurt and pudding. Thursday will be the first day of pureed foods and I can't wait. My weight loss hasn't stalled yet, but I know it's usually around this time when it does. I'm mentally preparing myself for that!
  6. Yes, it's hard for me to get down water too, but the yogurt ...I don't know!
  7. And yogurt is on my list as a food of choice.
  8. First off, if you've lost in the last months, it's not a stall. A stall is when the scale doesn't move. You're just experiencing a slow down in weight loss. Second, 80 pounds is really great! You should be proud of yourself! How much we lose is so individual, and is dependent on so many variables (age, gender, any medical conditions, etc) you just can't compare yourself to others. It will drive you crazy. I know by experience. If you want to get things moving along again, I suggest you take a good hard look at your plan overall. Are you tracking every bite? Measuring out your portions? Staying away from processed food and keeping carbs to mostly fruits and veggies? Do you you routinely exercise? Getting enough Water and protien? If you answered no to any of those questions, then that may be the issue. Take each of those things I listed, and start implementing them. For the next couple weeks, do nothing but lean protien and veggies for every meal. If you have to snack, keep it to nuts, cheese or yogurt. Keep your diet clean and natural, and stay way from as much sugar as possible. Unfortunately, you gotta get a little stricter when you hit slow downs and stalls. You have to really take inventory and really be honest about what you're eating and doing to cause things to slow down and stall. Have you let white carbs and a little too much sugar slip into your diet? I know ot happens to me, and that's when I know I have to nip it in the bud to get things moving along again. Good luck!

    Using Syntrax Nectar question

i love Syntrax Nectar! i use the crystal Sky, fuzzy navel, pink grapefruit, apple ecstasy, and i have tried the carribean cooler but it isn't one of my favorites those are all the ones i mix with about 16 oz of Water in my mixer cup. then i mix with milk - 6-8 oz of 1% - the chocolate truffle, strawberry mousse, vanilla bean torte - i also want to try the mint i have heard it is really good! - i also like to get some plain vanilla greek yogurt and mix a scoop of the chocolate and make a chocolate pudding out of it - it is so good! 1 cup of yogurt and 1 scoop of Protein mix of your choice and it is a yummy treat! and you can divide it up into a couple servings and it is still very high in protein that way. I order mine from Amazon sometimes i can find it on Prime sometimes not just depends on what flavors i get - and most of the time i drive to Abilene - an hour drive from where i live here in Texas - to buy mine from the Drug Emporium (a local heath food chain store) they usually have them all in stock.
  10. If you mean 8 oz. of yogurt, I still can't do that and I am 10 months post op. I would probably throw up. At your stage I was lucky if I could get 2 tablespoons in and I would feel uncomfortable. I also was on Clear Liquids the whole first week and then full liquids the week after. I had bypass surgery so maybe this was different but you really risk damage at this stage if you overeat or eat the wrong foods. Is there a reason you ate that much and a timeframe in which you did it? If it took you longer than 30 minutes this may be a slider food for you. I would stick to your post op diet exactly if you want to remain complication free. Good luck!

A fair number of bariatric patients end up with lactose intolerance after surgery. Lactose is the sugar found in milk. During the rapid weight loss phase, you do lose some muscle mass. The digestive system is a muscle. When the digestive system loses a little of its muscle mass, it loses the ability to digest lactose, because we quit producing lactase, the enzyme that breaks down lactose. Lactose is the type of sugar found in milk. Fluid milk and foods made from this can contain lactose. Examples of these kinds of foods include ice cream, a glass of milk, instant hot cocoa and pudding.Yogurt and cheese go through a fermentation process that actually breaks down some of the lactose. That’s why people with lactose intolerance can eat some yogurt and cheese. Lactose can also be found in milk based protein supplements whether it’s the ready to drink or the protein powders. Milk based protein supplements will have the words whey, casein or milk in the ingredient list. Some protein supplements will actually state “Lactose Free” on the label. Lactose can also be found in a protein product when the milk-based protein is from a “concentrate” form of whey, casein or milk. The protein is the concentrated form of whey, casein or milk. However, the protein is not isolated from the lactose. For example, whey protein isolate may have up to 1 percent of its weight as lactose. Whey concentrate may have up to 52 percent of its weight as lactose. You can look at the Nutrition Facts Label to see if the protein product you choose has any sugar in it. If a type of milk or milk protein is listed on the ingredients, it could mean there is some lactose. A product that has 2 grams of sugar or less per serving are often safe to drink. If you are lactose intolerance, you’ve now got information to start looking for lactose in all the right places.

    Post-Op Shopping List

As long as your on narcotics you shouldn't drive. I would plan on at least a week. Stock up on broths, yogurt, sugar free Popsicles, sugar free jello and puddings and eggs. Make sure you have your protein drinks to start on. Your nut should give you a list for your first weeks at home. Good luck to you.

@@Aga - good morning. Detoxing - yes, did you have a pre-op diet? a lot of us struggled through that before surgery. Being that you hopefully on a post-op diet as well the liquids should be a little easier to get in. what kind of yogurt are you eating? hydrate (sip) as often as possible and watch carbs. make smart food choices and chew, chew, chew.
  16. Hi guys.. Was trying to figure out which forum to tag into...but... They're all over the place and not sure of the process... Anyway... Just got sleeved last week and would love to hear what I've got to look forward to... Weirdly seems like I can drink like 4 oz at a go and some more like mins lata! Thot out she be more like 2 oz... Weird ya? Though I can only do bites of yogurt b4 I fill up.. So does it mean we can get in more pure liquid at a go? Also I've had these headaches that won't go.. Could I be detoxing?.... And I'm 4 days out 10lbs down! Amazing! Thanks guys!

    Ok, Am I Beating Myself?!

By whole cup do you mean a full cup, or a 5oz yogurt container, or 4 oz yogurt? How did you feel? Are you supposed to be eating that already? I did full liquids for a couple weeks. I couldn't even drink an 8oz Protein shake in one sitting the first few weeks after surgery. I'm unsure how you kept all that down. I'm almost 11 weeks out from surgery and I still can't eat a whole cup of anything. Not sure if you over did it, what do you think? I think only you can answer that question. My best advise is to talk to your NUT as soon as possible, and make sure you are eating the right things, and the right amounts. If you are having issues with head hunger....my best advice I tell everyone, get to a therapist, asap. That could be the very thing that helps you if you feel you are eating too much this soon after surgery. I wish you luck with everything.
  18. Hello guys, I'm five days post-op, and today I ate a whole cup of yogurt with a little milk mixed in it. Did I over do it? ????

    Struggling - Vitamins and Protein

I really struggled at lot between week 3 and 4. (Honestly I am now 9 weeks out and just now feeling better). I felt very hopeless during this time too but I promise you it gets better. You just have to hang in there and find stuff you can tolerate. I ate a lot of refried Beans with cheese melted on top (I put some spices in too like garlic salt, cumin and cilantro). I like and tolerated hummus quite well. sugar free fat free chocolate pudding with some Protein powder mixed in. Greek yogurt (I like the Dannon Light & Fit Greek strawberry Cheesecake). Ricotta Bake from theworldaccordingtoeggface.com website was REALLY good and even though I could only eat a small amount, it made me feel more human. For protein powders, I have been using Precision Engineering Whey Protein Isolate - both Chocolate and vanilla - and I like both of them a lot. I sometimes mix in PB2 and/or some of the Torani Sugar Free flavored syrups (I especially like Salted Caramel mixed with vanilla.) For unflavored, I use Doc Hale Nutrition Whey-licious (available online). You are able to mix it with as little as 3 oz of Fluid, so I mix it with Propel Fitness berry Water and just get it done. On the Vitamins, you might try calling your dr or NUT and see which ones they suggest. I use BariActiv (not the same as Bariatric Advantage) and tolerate them quite well. It is EXTREMELY important that you get vitamins in, so you have to find something you can tolerate. I have heard 2 Centrum Silver chewables or 2 Flinstone vitamins even. Do a search for vitamins on here and see if one comes up that you could try. PROMISE it gets better!!
  20. Surgery on 7/29. Am on liquid diet, plus protein drinks. Suppose to do this until 21 days. I would like something more before then, some yogurt or watered down outmeal. Wanted to see where others that were sleeved around the same time is with their diet.
  21. @@Seabreeze06, I have to do the same from time to time, staying away from websites..it's good for the mind. I am doing well, although I have been cheating eating some foods, for some reason, I am craving, i.e., popcorn?! Although, I cannot eat much of it, just enough to satisfy. Honestly, it's been hard trying to get in 90-100 grams of Protein a day! I can drink fluids okay, with small frequent sips, eating Soups, soft foods are okay as well. I tried eating breaded pork chop one night and I swear, I think it took hours before I actually digested it. I've noticed too, that one week, I won't lose a pound and the next week I lost 5 lbs! It's been crazy!! I also have not been diligent in taking my Vitamins.. a BIG NO NO. So, starting tomorrow, I've got my vitamins all lined up after my morning Protein shake or yogurt. I am very pleased thus far with my weight loss.. Surgery weight was 276 and today I'm 240 lbs! Keep us posted on your surgery status! Looking forward to reading your posts!

    Any August Sleevers?

@@englandgirlsleever, thanks for posting right after your surgery! It's great to hear that you are doing so well - especially for those of us who are still waiting for our turn to come. I got sleeved yesterday! Everything went great, took me a lot longer to come around after than expected! I also lost 7kg from my week pre op diet yipeeee! Still in hospital and get discharged tomorrow! Still on water at the moment, for all people who are doubting having it done, believe me it worth it! X @@Pejela my surgeon is Dr. Ponce de Leon. He has specials on here, and he is the head of bariatric surgery at the hospital he works out of. I see that you have Dr. Ortiz. I hear that he is one of the best! I wonder if we will end up in the same hospital? I am not sure that I know the name of the hosp I will go to. There are a couple. And do you recover at the recovery "condos" or in the hotel? Hi @@jfer , I actually don't feel hungry on full liquids, because it seems like I am having something every couple of hours. Besides what you mentioned, you could have yogurt drinks, or kefir (I like the kefir for the probiotics), and fruit juices. Various kinds of broths, tomato juice, or mix tomato juice half and half with either chicken or beef broth - I like that too. I find the kefir coats my stomach and helps with the hunger pangs, and fruit juice has natural sugars which also help me. For after, make sure you have lots of broth and every kind of clear liquid you can think of. GNC has a liquid form of calcium (I like the blueberry flavor), and they also sell a multi-vitamin powder that you mix with water - it tastes like fruit punch! If you can drink herbal teas, try Celestial Seasonings or Stash in peppermint flavor - it is soothing to touchy tummies. This SURGERY hurts like HELL!!!!!!!!!!!@@baylorbears281 Right, NOT helpful! AND, is the very opposite from everyone else's experiences on these boards. IF you have had the surgery and IF you experienced a lot of pain, I am sorry for you because the doctors and nurses are supposed to help keep your pain under control.

    Yeast infections following GS?

Hello, hope all find you well Sorry for delayed reply. How are you doing? Did you get any resolution or suggestion from your dr? I saw my Obgyn in Jan 2015, I was still experiencing yeast infection/itching like crazy. She explain it was a due to my hormones and body chemistry change with my WLS. So she recommended to put me on super low dose of birth control to help stabilize my hormones, also strongly suggested to drink or take take probiotics, which helps with yeast/stomach issues. Well I went on the low dose birth control although I really didn't want too as I'm 48yrs old and was really concerned about high risk of heart attack, HBP as I used to have to take meds for prior to surgery but stopped the HBP meds since my WLS. 4 to 5 months later the brith control pills really did help stop the yeast and itching situation, however I caused HBP to come back and super high, worse than prior to surgery so my pcp took me off them and prescribed 25mlg once a day for HBP. Now I'm off the HBP Meds but have found the itching starting to come back. I'm eating lots of probiotic food, yogurt, cottage cheese, otc pills and it helps, but itching is still there I forgot to mention that I also at beginning of all the yeast infection and itchiness, I was also developing these itchy spots in between private part/leg, buttocks and under beast that itch really bad, I'd scratch Til raw/painful and eventual dry up but come back randomly, my pcp prescribe anti-fungal ointment like which helps a bit and they go away, my Obgyn just said to drink benedryl for itching but it knocks me out. So 1 1/2 yrs out and itchiness is sill there, not as bad but wish it would completely go away as I never had this issue prior to my WLS. Control it by using ointment or otc yeast creams.
  24. Omg! I had exactly the same reaction on day 5. I had surgery on 8/3/15 Monday and I am so sick of protein drinks! I finally went and bought Isopure protein powder. Plain no taste. I don't want anymore drinks. I added powder to pudding, yogurt, and soup. It's actually pretty okay. Good luck. Finally down 1 pound from pre-surgery weight.
  25. I eat almost no meat (I can go days in a row without it). I've done fine with Protein. I eat a lot eggs, cheese (string cheese and cottage cheese are especially high in protein), and Greek yogurt. Although I'm only three months out so I'm still drinking a Protein shake every day, too.
