  2. I have not had my sleeve yet but I had my gallbladder out many years ago. At the time I was doing Weight Watchers and had lost a measly 40 pounds. It was pretty painful, I was happy to have it removed. Gallbladder issues can happen after any weight loss, it isn't just because of the surgery. Some doctors will take the gallbladder out during WLS but most will not, it is not a problem that everyone has so they don't see the need. Many people on here have reported going back and having their gallbladder removed after WLS. A COUPLE of people on here have said their doctors have given them medication to protect their gallbladder after WLS. I have never heard if such a thing before though????

DJackson you made me smile, there is no reason now!! LOL He is a great guy I am telling you my perception this morning he might tell you he is worried, who knows I remind him all the time he is not Tom Cruise and he needs to settle down. I remember before I gained all the weight he had other issues, jealousy. I miss those days

How old are you? 33 What surgery did you have? Lapband Male or female? Female How much weight did you lose? 84 so far with a lot more to go! How fast did you lose your weight? Sometimes it drips off me, others it feels like it's going to hang on forever! Was banded late July 2013. If you are female and didn't have cosmetic surgery, are you comfortable enough to go to the beach in a bikini? PFFFFT. lol How much loose skin do you have? My arms are going to be really bad, I can already tell. I'm not shocked though, I've always had huge arms anyway. If I ever get up the nerve and money in the future to have plastics, my arms will def be the first to go. I'm just now starting to see signs on my stomach of how much skin there's going to be, I think it will be relatively substantial but possibly not so much that I will feel like I absolutely have to have a tummy tuck to go on. I'm worried to see how my thighs and legs will end up. I've always had tree trunks for legs. I can't even visually imagine what they will look like if the fat is ever gone off of them.

    Emotional wreck

I won’t say I “did it” on my own, but I did lose almost 60 lbs before my surgery on my own. One of my friends asked why I went though with surgery after losing so much weight on my own, and my answer was that I’ve always been able to lose weight, I’ve just never been able to keep it off. Surgery gave me the help I needed to continue going. I would have backtracked by now without surgery, and I’d be continuing to fight an uphill battle because weight loss starts off easy, and gets harder the further you go. The preop 6 month diet isn’t to see if you can do it on your own, it’s the insurance trying to get people to give up so they can disqualify you. (Sorry, but I work with insurance and yes there’s a part that is making sure people are committed etc etc but mostly it’s to reduce costs by weeding people out). Give yourself the time you need, and push out that surgery date if you want. You’re the customer, you tell them when you want to do this. But really strongly consider if you are truly committed and confident you can do this on your own and maintain it for life, or if you’re nervous about surgery. It’s fine to be nervous! I was terrified. But almost 6 months and 120+ lbs later, I am so proud of the commitment I made to give myself another chance at life.
  8. Surgery date 5/28, SW 244, CW 188. Been in a 2 week stall, but I seem to loose for a couple weeks then stall, but loose inches. At least that is how it feels. I have gone from a Very tight 18 to a comfortable 14, tops have gone from. 2x to a large! hair started coming out last month, I am trying to not stress at the handfuls (at least it feels that way!) that come out when I wash it. I am not the best at exercising and I know my weight loss would probably be faster. It will come! Pics are my journey so far... . Best thing I could have done, ever!

  13. My energy level hasn't been great considering I have lost alot of weight and should be feeling GREAT. For the amount I have lost, it in the past took more like a year to acheive this much weight loss and I remember feeling so energized at the weight I am now. I guess I am getting older, but probably the big deal is that it is hard on the body to go through the surgery and rapid weight loss - makes sense that it will take awhile before I feel that extra energy boost. What did help though was upping the exercise. I went back to things that have energized me in the past - Water aerobics, elliptical trainer and a bit of weight lifting.

    Emotional wreck

Good morning. Today I am supposed to start my 2 week pre op diet. I have struggled hard the past 2 days and am a wreck. I even think about the surgery and I cry so hard I can’t breath. Let me go back a little bit. My insurance does not cover the surgery so I am paying myself. That also means that it all is happening really fast. My initial consult was March 5 and surgery is May 6. Also no prerequisite were required like a psych evaluation. I started calorie counting and exercising in my own in February and since I have lost 24 pounds on my own. From 291 to 267. I never had the 6 month wait with working with a dietian to see if I could do it on my own. This is the first time I’m trying to change the problem not bandaid it with weight loss pills. And it looks like it is working but will be slower than surgery. I’m on track for 10 pounds a month. I have no underlying conditions such as blood pressure or diabetes. This surgery is scaring the poop out of me and I’m so close to backing out. Has anyone been here and done it on there own? I feel like there is no part of this I can mentally handle. I can handle tracking my food and losing slowly.

Only you know yourself. For me at two weeks out I had doubts too but I knew that I had lost weight (even a great deal of it) on my own many times but I always gained it back (plus some). You have to make the best decision for yourself. The statistics say that the chances for someone at our weight (that qualify for this surgery) losing all the weight by diet and exercise alone and actually keeping it off are slim but there are some people that do. Only you know your circumstances, would you be healthy and happy if you lost some but not all of the weight? Also, I would say if you really are concerned that you could slow down the process (ask for a different surgery date) and even ask for referrals for the nutritionist and psychiatrist or psychologist they normally use. There is no reason that they should object to you seeing those people on your own if you think it will help you make your decision. I think most people will tell you that they had some doubts around the time of the preop diet though. Only you know if they are small doubts or real ones.

I agree with what others have said that you may want to slow down your process. Just because they gave you a surgery date doesn't mean it's set in stone. I'm also paying for my own surgery with no insurance but I still completed my program the same way I would with insurance just a little faster. I did all the pre-op classes, met with dietician, met with behavioral consult etc. I know how to lose weight the healthy way, I think most of us on here do. I've lost weight on my own several times in my life but it's very difficult for me to maintain. I don't view this surgery as a solution but it's a tool that's going to help me stick to the healthy choices without being starving hungry all the time or fighting crazy binges. If you've never even tried to lose weight on your own before you may find yourself resentful in a few years when you can eat the way you used to, wondering if you could have just done it on your own and still be 'normal'. I spent a long time looking down on WLS thinking I could do it on my own before accepting that my body simply cannot maintain that on it's own for whatever reason. You may need to take some more steps in your journey to get to a place of acceptance and not one of fear.

    Weight Loss before Surgery?

I don't have Medicaid and went through Blue Cross, but I actually gained a small amount of weight during the phase leading up (5 lbs or so). However, during the pre-op liver shrink diet, it is virtually impossible to not lose weight. I lost 20 pounds in three weeks. If I had shown up and gained weight or maintained after I was supposed to be on that pre-op diet, I'm sure they would've turned me away, because it would've been clear that I hadn't done the surgery preparation without even seeing my liver.
  18. My PCP favors GB more, but only because she had that surgery herself. The surgeon I see seems to me to also favor GB. With him, I think it has more to do with the rapid weight loss that tends to occur in the 1st 6-12months afterward. In the end, though, they both advised that it was my decision. I decided on the LB  and am still going through my pre-op phase. I hope that with my last two appointments coming up, that by the end of June I will find out for sure whether I am approved and get a date.
  19. I was sleeved on Jan 21, 2013 starting weight was 298 down 48 pounds so far. Before seeing these pics side by side I would have considered myself a "slow loser" but now; Wow.....what a difference. Best decision ever...excited to continue on my journey.
  20. Well, yogurt is for me the best alternative as u mentioned. Any idea of target weight loss % per month?
  21. So, my scale, the little devil, bas been stuck at 205 since roughly 6/21...the dreaded week 3 stall was not a myth, y'all. My surgery was 6/1 so I hit that stall right at the 3 week mark... BUT... And I may be crazy here... I feel like I am losing inches instead of weight? Is that even possible?! Can one lose onches without losing weight? I have also read that fat is "redistributing". Is that also possible? Because I feel that I went from being a blob to having some shape to my body. Clothes fit better, I am wearing pants I have not put on for a long time... I started my journey at 245lbs, now 205. Only 40lbs lost. While significant, I still have another 60 to go at least... But how do I get the scale to cooperate?! Still... Is it possible, the whole inches vs weight thing or am I completely insane?

  23. Hi everyone I'm scheduled for my surgery June 1st and I'm terrified. I've lost large amount amounts of weight on my own before through militant exercise and Portion Control but my biggest hurdle has been and will always be the emotional eating. I know that the surgery is not going to help me with that so I'm reaching out for help from someone else. If anyone would be willing to help me I I'd greatly appreciate it. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App
