    September banders

Banded sept 30th. approx 12 lb weight loss in 3 weeks. My incision where my port is burns and still having slight amount of drainage anyone else have this?
  2. I had some things that "helped" me accelerate my weight loss, including a stricture that kept me from eating solids for several weeks and a two week bout of stomach flu, so I know that it's not quite typical. Things are slowing down for me and I've been losing and regaining the same 5 pounds for the last two weeks XD, so I understand your frustration. When I stall, I usually try a couple things. First, I go back to basics. I write down everything I eat, down to the last bite. I focus on Protein first with no extras and getting all my Water in and I find that somewhere along the line I've been adding a snack here or there mindlessly. Get a little extra exercise, too. Some people swear by upping caloric intake to get out of a stall. I've also heard that people have good results with Diva's Boot Camp, if you search for that post. Nobody knows for certain why we stall when we're all eating next to nothing. Sometimes it's glycogen related, but sometimes we just don't lose. Keep perspective that even though it doesn't seem like a lot... it really is. Could I have lost weight without the surgery? Certainly not so much and certainly not without being absolutely miserable. I think sometimes the hardest part is just keeping perspective on our weight loss because after so long we finally feel it's going to work and we just want to be successful already and so we get frustrated even when we know it's not a magic weight loss surgery.

    Day 3 Post Opp

My answer: heeell yes!!! I am 3 months out, down 64 lbs... Wearing a size medium/7 jeans! I am loving it and pizza and beer are not worth it! I have tried both post op and am fine, depending on the amount and I only have the topping of the pizza.... I have had a beer and it was fine... You do have to watch for the caloric intake, but once in a while... As long as you don't form a habit... If is worth every single moment!! I wake up thanking god for this amazing opportunity to feel like MYSELF!
  4. I am only 9 weeks out of surgery, I am feeling great however for the past 3 weeks I have stalled. I have gained a pound, lost a pound, for 3 WEEKS!!! I am eating my 'soft' foods, getting in my Proteins, my Water, upp'd my exercise (walking) and still no change. I know all about the 3 week stall, that lasted about 6 days for me but not this 9 week stall. It's so frustrating and I feel like I am already a failure ..... anyone else experienced this?
  5. I went in to see my PCP having been sleeved on 12/5. I told him I was disappointed with my weight loss compared to others. I know. I know. We should not compare ourselves but we all do. I weighed 280 when I was there in his office in November. The day I was in his office I weighed 252. Today I am down to 247.6 I am thrilled to be loosing but when I read about the people who lose 70-100 lbs in 3 months I just have to wonder what am I doing wrong. My PCP shook his head and ask me to consider my journey in its entirety My biggest recorded weight in his office was 386lbs in 2006. I fought down to 270 by 2008 and then bounced around 260 to 300 until I received by sleeve in 2012. All you dieters know that in order to lose over 100 lbs and keep it off for years I had already made major changes tommy eatting patterns. My PCP explain to me that because the surgery was not a big shock to my body I did see the big change. I most definitely eat less calories on a continued bases now but my NUT actual ask me to up my calories from the 900 I was doing to 1300-1500 pre surgery. Does anyone else think that is kind of comical. I have seen many stalls over the years even when doing the right things. My PCP say the body has set points where it will not want to let go of more. That is when I need to up calories a day or two the back off. Also I must up what I am forcing the body to urn during a stall. That is very hard for me I am no fan of exercise but I press on. My PCP told me to realize had I not already had made so many changes before surgery I would have seen a bigger difference but I would have been at a much higher starting weight to begin with. So I guess it all evens out in the end. This made me feel better about the lost post surgery. My hope with surgey was it would take me down the next hundred as my body seemed unwilling to go down below 260 even after that 6 month supervised 900 calorie diet the NUT complained was to low. So I do feel an accomplishment to be at 247.6 it is my lowest adult weight. I certainly hope to keep moving down the scale. My current limits 800 calories 50 carbs and 70 Protein. I try to walk uphill at 3mph for 30 mins 5 times a week. Yes it is a journey but I feel like I am running the hardest marathon ever!
  6. I think you're doing great! That's a lot to lose in just two short months. I think a lot of those huge fast weight losses are also with folks who started off heavier than you did at your sleeve weight. I've read in medical journals that the overall average loss with the sleeve tends to be 10 - 15 lbs per month. Upping the calories makes a lot of sense. I read somewhere about the science behind stalls, Water weight and the like. Sometimes it takes a calorie increase to get back to losing. You're to be congratulated on your success! Also, just think that pre-sleeve how much would you have gained during this past holiday season? Best of luck on your continued success.

I Was, In A Free Wls Contest

Thank you for visiting this blog. Many of you will be able to relate to my story. Just a few months ago I was in a very low dark place when a friend sent me a text. It was a link to a contest for a free lap band surgery. In my negative mind set I thought "yeah right! Like that would ever happen!" Well, three months later I received a phone call from the surgerons office telling me I was a finalist!! I couldn't believe it! There is light at the end of the tunnel! So here is my plea....The contest winners are determined by voting. The two with the hightest amount of votes wins. Please vote for me Christina L. UpDate: 4/17/2012 I believe it was the American Author Greg Anderson that said "Focus on the journey, not the destination.." By now most of you are aware I did not win the contest. It's true, one week ago today I received the phone call from the contest rep that began with "Unfortunately....." It was not the call I had expected. As you can imagine this has been a long emotional roller coaster ride. Though this adventure in my life's journey has come to an end I will reflect on the lessons learned and tell the funny stories for many days to come. Like when my mother and I tried to use one of the computer labs at my sisters college. Apparently it was very obvious we were NOT students and it was our FIRST time using that Mac computer. A chipper young student named Tuesday busted us but kindly help us "old folks" figure it out rather than reporting us to the "Lab Watchdogs". (yes it was a Tuesday and yes her name really was Tuesday) Most importantly though, I want to sincerely thank each of you for all your encouragement and support. Thank you all so much!
  8. I just finished my pre-op testing today. I had a sleep study done a couple of months ago, followed by an EGD (endoscopy) a month later. Today, I went to the hospital that I'm having the surgery at (in a week!). A nurse took a quick medical history, vitals (blood pressure, pulse, heartbeat) then took me to a lab for an EKG, which is totally painless. Then I had a couple of vials of blood drawn for standard pre-op testing (CBC, Chem-7, Full Metabolic Panel, etc.) and gave a urine sample. Then I had a chest xray and that was it.

    Food Addiction

Hello Fellow Michigander- Do not give up, my friend. You were given a tool, and you have forgotten how to use it. Go back to a week or two of just liquids, then do mushies, start all over again. Write down all the reasons you decided to have the surgery in the beginning. Did you think about the flabby skin when you made your decision? I did. I knew I was going to have some body image problems along the line. For now, I can cover everything with clothing. Later, when I am closer to goal I will start looking for solutions that I can afford. Are you exercising? Drinking enough Water? Go back to the beginning, get out your pre-surgery literature and just commit yourself to using this tool to your best advantage. If you still can't muster up the resolve, you may want to ask the surgeon to take the second step and give you a gastric bypass. Lots of super obese people start with the sleeve, and work toward bypass. Don't give up on yourself!!!

    September banders

I am right there with u. Lost 28 lbs. 3 weeks to go until first fill my surgery 9-30. Cant wait dr told me this is the worse part of whole thing. He said if u can at least manage to keep wt stable during that time u r doing good. And if u can manage to lose a little weight during this time u r doing super. So we both are doing super!!! Congrats????
  11. Started at 295. Pre surgery loss was 20 lbs which had me at 270lbs before. Had surgery march 23rd. 3 months out and am at 233.8 which puts me down 36.2 lbs after surgery. Alittle discouraged by after surgery loss so far. So down 61.2lbs total. I know I liked reading others results early out to know if I was doing bad or good. Lol
  12. I am 7 weeks today and thought I would be a bit closer to 200, but I will take the loss that I have so far and strive to get more Water in and less carbs! Thanks for sharing, you and I are neck and neck at the 230ish range

Not sure what it is but...

Tracy, I was an exercise hater. Hence my weight getting to 330 pounds. I realized that if I didn't make exercise part of my daily life I would always be fat. So, right out of surgery I decided to move every chance I had. I was up and walking around the exterior of the hospital within an hour of coming out of recovery and kept walking until I was given the go ahead by my surgeon for full exercise. I joined a gym (Curves) the day I turned 4 weeks post-op and I faithfully go every day. I have made so many new friends and have found so much support through the owners, employees and members that I actually look forward to going. I also ride my bicycle with my husband as often as daylight permits. My grown kids actually have started to join us and it has become a family outing every weekend and it is so much fun. My husband has always told me to push past the exhaustion of exercise and when I feel like I can't breath anymore to focus on slowing down my breathing and the feeling will pass. I would stop and plop on the sofa at the point where breathing got hard and give up. I've discovered that he was right. It does get easier when you push past that point and concentrate on your breathing. I love riding my bicycle and feel so alive like I can ride forever. I'm telling you all this to try and motivate you to find some form of exercise that you enjoy and will make part of your everyday life. I want you to succeed and become healthier, lose the weight and become happier, more confident and help others in their weight loss journey. Exercise is a necessary part of life. Best of luck to you and feel free to message me if you have any questions. P.S. Sassy is a good thing! Donna
  14. My cousin had wls and lost her butt, I have been terrified of losing mine. And I mean this in these most respectful way, but you still have yours, and that gives me hope. You look amazing. I'm 5'2 and my heaviest was 230. I'm 2 months out and I'm a little around or before 198 (haven't weighed at my surgeon in a few weeks) Sent from my Z983 using BariatricPal mobile app

From the album: Post Op Pics!! :)

  16. I am almost 6m out PO and I was wondering is there a way to speed up the fat loss progress? I am losing only 5-8 pounds a month for the past 3 months and I was wondering if there is a way I can kick start it back into overdrive? I had a goal to reach my goal weight by mid July but at this rate, I will be nowhere near it by then.

    Approved!!

Hi, I got my approval for revision to the sleeve today from my doctor's office. I am going from RNY to sleeve. I had my bypass 10 yrs ago. The pouch stretched about 80% and of course my weight came back. I have health restrictions due to severe allergies to alot of drugs that are common pills for high blood pressure. When I got my bypass, they took my gall bladder and repaired a huge hiatal hernia at the same time. I did not have discomfort whatsoever. Mine was open incision, but I suppose if you get laproscopic surgery the healing won't be too bad. I remember my drain tube for the gall bladder surgery part took longer to heal. Post op, I felt soooo much better--I had severe anemia 3 mos prior to surgery that the bypass saved me. Keep us posted--you will be in good care--try not to worry! rsr53 I got my approval letter in the mail yesterday for my revision. I will have the band to VSG and gall bladder surgery at the same time. I know several here have also had that surgery and would appreciate any advice you have. I am a little nervous about surgery but know that is normal. When I get really nervous I say to myself," you are going to have surgery no matter what because the gall bladder has to come out. this is just a little more." Seems to work a little. Is there a great deal more pain associated with gall bladder removal? Cathy
  18. I am almost one month post op and have been in a stall for a week Dropped 20lbs in the first couple weeks. Hopefully it's about to break though. I am down a couple more this morning. So my doctor had me start soft foods about a week ago and in our plan at one month I can try new things. I've pretty much had no issues adding in anything and so I tried grilled chicken and broccoli. I chewed it really well and no issues. But is it normal to add in chicken so early? Has anyone else seemed to move through the eating states this easy and quick?
  19. I had surgery 8/27/14 and lost 10 pounds the first week. I am three weeks out today but the scale has NOT moved in the past two weeks. I am tracking my food intake with My Fitness Pal and I am getting plenty of Protein.....eating ONLY things on the "approved" diet list (only about 700 calories a day!).....even joined a gym and am working out almost daily (walking a mile on the treadmill and 20 minutes on the elliptical machine). Even people who don't know I had surgery say they notice I am losing weight. I can tell a difference in my face, my stomach, my backside.....my watch is looser, my rings are looser, my shoes are looser, my pants are looser. How is it POSSIBLE the scale is not moving?????? Experienced sleevers -- HELP!!!

    Banded April 3rd 2007!!!!

:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: Well, on April 3rd, 2007 I was banded!!! Its been a little over a week, and im starting to feel hungry again. I have another dr appointment in 2 weeks the 24th I think--when I will recieve my first fill...Im down 12 pounds so far! Im thrilled, I feel better already. Its just a psychological roller coaster. Am I physically hungry?? Emotionally hungry? Or just wanting to freaking eat??? Thats where Im at, I just want food. This mental thing is getting at me. uggh. Though, when I do eat, I can now tell when I am full. LOL, I dont think there ever was a full stage before. lol. So, heres to my new life, my new me. :biggrin1: :biggrin1: :biggrin1:
  21. Has anyone experienced daily headaches after surgery? I'm 4.5 months post op. I take a Flintstones chewable Vitamin, VitronC Iron supplement, actigal (can't remember the exact name), protonix, D3, allegra, and zyrtec. I also get my Protein and fluids daily and around 1K calories. I had my surgery in another state so I can't see my surgeon but I do have an appointment with a new doc 4/13. Went ahead and set up that appointment because I know I'm due for blood work by 6 months post op. My blood work at 6 weeks post op was fine with D & Iron being low, which is normal for me. Just curious if anyone else has any experience or insight? I do exercise on average about 5 times a week varying between intense cardio and strength training. Not sure if all this info is relevant but better safe than sorry. Seems like every day for the last 2-3 weeks my head hurts. I think it's probably allergies because it's in the forehead/temple area and I have a history of chronic sinus issues and allergies but I'm worried it could be something with a vitamin or mineral deficiency. Any thoughts?

    clearance

So I have completed all the testing require by my surgeon.Today I went to my family doc. she is clearing me for surgery. I am nervous about making the decision. I know it is the right thing to do. But I worry about how I am going to be able to handle all the changes to come. Obviously I have not been successful at dieting or I wouldn't be here. This is what I am worried about..... I like food, I enjoy going to happy hour and I love having a glass of wine when my husband and I cook. How is this going to work? We have a family wedding, a visit to my daughter college the holidays,do I tell family and coworkers etc... The positives of this surgery are.. my body will not be in as much pain as it is now (arthritis, fibromyalgia ,asthma) I hope to have more energy, and of course my clothes will look better on me .I am not sure if I will qualify according to my insurance plan. My BMI is 37 but as of this moment my blood sugar is high, heart rate was high .But I do not have diabetes(yet) High Blood pressure or sleep apnea. I will find out around the 3rd week of September 2013. I will be blogging to keep my self sane. only my daughters and hubby know that I am considering this so you are my connection to people who will understand.

    chewing our food

I started chewing too fast and too little about 3 months out, and a few times felt like something stuck with too much gummy food, especially potatoes, tortillas, and bread. It was horrid. I try to remember to chew and swallow smaller bites even 51/2 months out. That being said, I think I eat normally.
