  1. Hi everyone, Im new here as this is my second post in 2 days. I have a question regarding GERD. Im 32 been pretty much overweight all my life and the small time (about 10 years ago) when i was in great shape, i did not suffer from gerd. I also have a small hiatal hernia that may or may not need to be repaired. I do not take medicine for the Gerd, it really doesn't bother me to be honest. I have been reading that preexisting GERD prior to the sleeve can worsen. So much so, that many times the surgeon will suggest a revision to the bypass. The bypass scares the life out of me and i just dont want to do it. No disrespect to bypass patients, But I rather not surgery than get a bypass Studies can only show you so much and Id really like to hear some of your first hand experiences. Did it get worse, Better, same? Also, did any of you get the LINX installed? If so, howd did that go?

What Hammer said... plus...If your liver hasnt shrunk enough to make the surgery safe, the surgeon can go "nope!" and close you back up withing doing the sleeve. HW 385 SW 359 CW 335 (50lbs down!) Sleeved 10/5/16
  4. @tynodles11 that is what I am afraid of too that my band did a lot of damage over the last 10 years. But hey we won't know until they open me up so.... surprise surprise!! @@aloudwhisper, that is what I feel too, that we have through the band experience with all its glory. The food getting stuck, the vomiting, acid reflux and and and..... only eating 3 bites when everybody around us is thinking : what is wrong with her! " So we are definitely not new to this lifestyle and I am constantly telling myself : it can only get better from here. I am on liquid for about 1.5 weeks now and have 1.5 more to go till surgery day. I don't mind. At least that way I do not need to pay attention to any kind of diet plan. Easy peasy

    Nothing fits

I bought a lot of 't's from Kohls when they had their sales. The winter long sleeved ones were around $8-9. and the summer ones under $7. I have about a dozen of each and they wash real well. I dry them for about 5 minutes and then hang them. So I don't know if the shrink. Also where I live in MA we have outlet stores and recently bought tanks at Jones New York for $10. each. I also did well at Marshalls/.TJ Maxx for summer clothes, too. I own a lot of tops and about 6 pairs of jeans, black, blue and white. As far as bras, I was measured and went way down. Panties, had many sizes, so I was all set there. Good luck. I know people at my support group say they go to consignment stores. I have brought clothes there but never bought any.

    Nothing fits

Don't underestimate the value of eBay! I sell my big clothes and buy my skinnier clothes on eBay. I am able to purchase brand name beautiful clothes for pennies on the dollar. The trick is to know the brand and what size would fit you and then have at it. I am happily at a size 12 now but still have 30 more lbs to lose. I am a professional so I can't just wear whatever. I love J. Crew but hate their prices especially during this size transition. I got skirts for $10 that are normally over $100. Beautiful tops for $8-15. When I am done with them I will resell them on eBay!

    Any Newcastle Sleevers?

Hi. I know these posts are old but I'm only new on here. Having my surgery on 4/4 in Newcastle. Can't wait. I lost 60kg 15 years ago. I maintained that for about 10 years but 4 miscarriages later & still no live babies food got its hold back on me. Am ready to change that again.
  9. Hello everyone, first off.... im a bit discouraged and frustrated. I see everyone having success within days of surgery already losing 5-10 pounds... Im a man, went into surgery 4 days ago weighing 428.8 pounds. As of today i weigh 430.4 pounds. I dont have an appetite, can barely get much liquids down i consume under 500 calories a day. I drink a 100 calorie 11 oz prorein shake everyday, i break it down in 3 seperate meals because my stomach is so tight and i cant get much liquids down. I am very bloated my stomach feels HEAVY having alot of gas and i cant poop because whenever i strain on the toilet my stomach begins to hurt.... (sorry if thats too much info) Im 21 years of age 6'1 inches tall and trying to figure out why im not having the same sucess everyone else is having. Im following my book. Not eating anything thats prohibited and i dont have cravings or even an appetite. Please help... Sent From Galaxy Note 5 using the BariatricPal App

    Today I Joined a Gym!!

Looking to join a gym in three weeks when the doctor said I could do more than walk. However, realizing that it is hard to go from being a couch potato to even walking I am taking advantage as of today of my apt complex fitness center, such as it is. I walked down the hill to it today (my complex is built on the side of a mountain) and could only force myself to do 10 minutes on the treadmill, but, hey, that is a start, right? Then I had to trudge back up the hill to my apt. My rear was sure dragging when I got home but it was worth it. Hopefully by the time I join the gym I can do 30 minutes on a treadmill like your trainer suggested you to start with. Lol. And I can drive there and the hill to my apt won't look like an Alp from the bottom.

    band slip/dilated esophagus

Glad you got your band back. I'm hoping and praying that I get to keep mine. I was a binge eater prior to being banded and was gaining8-10 lbs per year. The band helps me to control that. It didn't however change the way my brain thinks about food. I definitely need it to stay.

How did you do over the holidays?

I gained 10 pounds from Halloween through New Years, but I was allowing old habits to creep in prior to Halloween. So, after a good butt-kicking from my husband (with my permission) and my doctor (whom I pay to kick my butt!), I have written out menus and an exercise plan for the next few weeks. My doctor and I think I need to "detox" from too much sugar which I am now craving like mad. I have removed all sweets from my house and have given my kids permission (and money) to ride their bikes to Baskin-Robbins once a week when they want ice cream. I just can't have sweets in the house right now. Once I get over the intense craving for sugar, I think it will be easier to get back on track. Also, writing this out has been helpful. Sometimes putting to words my failures help me realize that this is only temporary and that I can get back on track!

    Looking for band buddies

:)Great idea! I need some lapband buddies myself.... Hi! I was 257 and 5'6" at the time i was banded. The surgery date was last year 3/24/10. It has been a rocky road but well worth it. I'm not quite down to my b mi size. Lately, i have lacked motivation and not lost any weight. I know my band is too tight! I have an appt tomorrow and hoping to get back on track.... I wish everyone the best of luck....

Revision From Band To Rny And Why.

Had band since 11/08. Fluid in, fluid out, little loss. Had 2 ugi with little dialation 3 years ago. Decided to get it out this year. Saw a different physician due to insurance. Had another ugi. Didn't see anything wrong but lower abdominal erosions due to H. pylori. Scheduled for lap removal of band and revision to rny 10/22. Start preop diet monday. Preop testing 10/17. I was a cash pay also. So I started a seeing my pcp every month for 6 months and joined WW. I knew the insurance would want me to do that. So I was proactive. I got approved on the first try. I don't see why they wouldn't approve you.
  15. Last night I had a case of some sort of pouch bug. It was absolutely horrible and I hope I NEVER have to go through it again. I found this link that describes it perfectly. http://bariatricjourney.blogspot.com/2008/01/pouch-flu-is-like-stomach-flu-only.html?m=1

Getting nervous due to all the comments I am hearing

Perfectly normal to hear all those things and feel what you're feeling. "...dont do that your not that fat" What does the guy staring back at you in the mirror say? He's the one you have to make happy and answer to each morning. "...your not gonna qualify" The person that said this knows this how? "...just put some time in at the gym" If it were that simple doctors wouldn't be doing this surgery. One of the first questions I was asked by my surgeon was if I had tried to lose weight before and how did I go about it. Going to the gym was one of my answers, and I did lose weight, only to put it all back on and more. "people die from this surgery" Unfortunately, this is truth. There are stories of this on Bariatric Pal. i was aware that people died from the surgery when i went on the table. It was worth it for me. "but I have other medical issued ( high b/p., back issues) that made me make this descion." Me too. High blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, couldn't sleep flat on a bed for > 10 years. I can go on. "I am also starting to get nervous due to being put to sleep. " Have you never been put under before? All worrying does is waste your time and energy. Most people have have had this surgery. It hasn't been easy for all of them but I'm sure most would agree it was worth it.
  17. Ten years of weight creeping up and here I am-- with a BMI of 36 (go me!!) with 2 co-morbidities. Hunger pains?

I'm still having the pains, bought gas strips which helped with the gassy bloated feeling but I definitely still have an empty grumbling feeling. Everything I eat, or drink, it goes like this. I swallow a small sip of Water an about 2 seconds after its passed my throat I feel it hit my stomach, then it instantly tightens up like a fist, then I feel the fist pressure slowly climb up my throat like a burp would, but it never amounts to anything. It just stops mid way up. I guess I'm trying to say that I'm not getting ANY relief from eating/drinking. I still feel sick and empty. I've not had anything "wrong" and been trying all sorts of allowed items to see if maybe one thing hurts less than another but it's all the same story. Jello popsicles broth water flavored water Gatorade diluted juice sugar free pudding, it all has the same effect, although the heavier stuff does hurt a little more. I have my follow up tomorrow at 2 so of course I will bring this all up to him then. Just frustrating that I'm supposed to get all this water and Protein in when it pains me just to sip water. water aerobics

I have been doing water aerobics on and off for the last 10 years. When I hurt my knees before the surgery it was a life saver. Now I do it twice a week on the days where it is more carbo driven. I have now moved on to the elliptical which is now my favorite machine. I think that if you are happy with it, stick to it. It does help tone and the baggy skin will go away.

    October Sleevers!

Sleeved 10/18, down 52 pounds as of today!! 4 months out.......not too bad........had a rough 4 week stall that just broke with upping the protein and water. If I get enough protein through shakes, food and get my water in I have NO ROOM in my tummy for carbs! LOL. The carbs and low protein got me all stuck. Back on track now, I know what to do. I thought because my portions are so small that the carbs couldn't hurt as I wasn't eating enough to matter; however, I have since learned that our metabolism slows down about this time from the small amount of food intake so the carbs do affect us in a negative way. Exercise, exercise, exercise, which I am falling short of - that will raise our metabolic rate.
