It's no secret to those who have kept up with me that I've been on a very thin line between buyer's remorse and just dealing with life after surgery. I have what I feel to be a unique situation where I feel I made a horrible decision and had surgery I was not ready to have. I did this because as the wife and mother, I am, who refuses to disrupt others and make things go as smoothly as possible it was the ONLY time I could do this because of various situations in my family aka my husband's life. I had asked to cancel this surgery for a week previous but was constantly reminded of all the negative issues it would cause to happen to myself and more importantly my family. I went into the OR telling them without any drugs in my system that I had changed my mind and wanted to stop. But was knocked out and woke up as is. I have gotten many comments to the order of "deal with it". I posted in my personal blog my feelings and that's all I get. Well obviously, I can not undo what has been done, so I have no other choice but to "deal with it". I feel that I am no longer getting the support I need from this forum at this time. I feel like I am of a VERY slim majority of people who had a situation thrown at them, thought they were making the best choice for the family and is living with regret. I know the majority of folks on here are really looking for support and guidance. I feel I have neither to offer anyone. So with that being said, I think at least I will take a break from here. I'm sincerely happy that everyone who is happy has found what they believe to be the right choice for THEM. And with that I wish them continual success and happiness in reaching every goal they set for themselves. I feel until I am able to deal with the cards dealt I do best to stay away from being reminded the need to simply deal with it as that's all I have to do because I have no choice.

Its so interesting to see what different programs tell you what you can have. My program told me I absolutely cannot have peanut butter after surgery for at least a couple of months. I feel like it is all becoming so arbitrary. I take as much protein in as I can. I absolutely rely on Premier Protein Clear water. It is expensive but I drink two to three a day and that is 60 grams of protein right there.

Well I had one set of smaller size clothing set back having gotten rid of all my previous sizes. Pre-op I was in a 52 pants and they were just about cutting me in two they were so freakin' tight. I had a few pairs of 46s and wore them till they were almost comically baggy. I finally went shopping for new britches a week ago Saturday. I tried on a 42 and they fit about right, a little loose but not too loose around the waist, I then tried on a 40 and they were kind of snug. So I ended up buying 2 pair, the 42 and the 40. I ordered a pair of jeans (I like a certain brand - Deluth Trading) in 40s thinking it would be OK to wait a week or two till they were comfortable. Well I wear my pants for 4 days M-T (please no comments I work in an office and just don't get them dirty, EVERYTHING else gets changed daily) and jeans on Friday. By Thursday I noticed the 42s were getting kind of loose. The size 40 mail order jeans came Thursday so I washed 'em up in order to try them on Friday morning fully expecting to have them NOT fit yet. To my shock they fit fine and the legs are a little baggy at that. In 4 months I've gone from a TIGHT 52 to a comfortable 40, that's 12 inches lost around my waist! I've been a cheapskate and refused to get a new belt. My belt goes around me and then again about 30% almost 16" stick out past the buckle! Jeez, I love this sleeve!

Wow, I just logged in to see about how much people lose on pre-op diet. I have surgery on 1/10 and of course, these past few weeks have been awful. The holidays are always bad and I thought this year I'd be a bit better. NO..hoping to lose 10-15 on pre diet. I see this and a bit worried. Sent from my SM-G900H using the BariatricPal App

Are You Feeling Deprived?
Swimmer replied to Suzannesh's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only almost a week out, but I don't feel deprived. Mostly because I have zero hunger, but secondly because I feel amazingly blessed to have this real chance for permanent change. I'm filled with excitement everyday. -
I have not met with a dietician yet. I'm going to whine for a minute. I'm on day three of no "white" food. Struggling a bit; I'm hungry. The food journaling helps. So far I've stayed under 900 calories per day. I have a headache. Someone said that getting to Ketosis will be easier after a few days. Struggling to drink the 90 ounces of Water. Ok, done whining. I had my Psych eval yesterday and was approved for surgery through them. Now the doctor's office can submit it to my insurance. Then I guess we wait. In the meantime, I have all of the other appointments to go to: Cardiology, Pulmonary, Endoscopy, blood work.

Boy, when I read your post I thought it was me writing. I just started my 6 month journey and wish it was over. I don't understand why they make someone who has been overweight all their lives go through 6 more months of it. If I didn't have to go to work everyday I would probubly just stay in bed. Depression is setting in. I didn,t know if you showed you ate the wrong way that the insurance would deny you the surgery. I'm in trouble because I'm having a hard time this week. Anyway, just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. Hopefully the next 5 months will fly by.

What you are feeling is perfectly normal. Its a scary and life change thing, to get sleeved. If I can offer a few word from a veteran (as of March 6th, I'm a year out so I qualify) It will be the best health decision you could ever make. life is back to normal now. A new Normal? Yes. And I love it! There is nothing I can not eat. The only taboo thing for me per my surgeon is carbonation. I can eat and drink anything and everything. Not a single thing disagrees with me. That said, yes I can eat or drink anything, most of the time I just don't. The success I have achieved encourages me to eat healthy. I do eat very healthy 80% of the time. I eat better 15% of the time and I eat GOOD meaning anything goes 5% of the time, on average. Some days and weeks are perfect some days are not so much. I have succumbed to chips and salsa. I have eaten a few bites of the most decadent Desserts (only a few bites) but mostly because there is no more room I have wine every weekend. We are big wine lovers. I go to parties and social events where food is the focus and am just fine. I enjoy a few bites of this or that but always try to stay Protein focused. You will too. Life is not over after the sleeve, its just better. Way better. I still have 13 pound to go to my realistic goal and 23 to my ultimate goal. Although the last few months I don't think 130 is best for me. I don't think I would look or feel my best there. I think 140 is real for me. What I can tell you is, if I do not lose another pound, ever, I will consider this surgery as the best health decision I could have ever made. Where I am now is healthy, well, energetic and full of energy. I may not be a size 2 and that is fine with me. I am currently wear a loose 10 and snug 8. I I were 20 years younger I'd probably not bother with the 10. Med tops. It's not about the size but the health and all the amazing things that go along with new found health and energy! Your fears are real and normal. Take the step, it won't be easy. This is in no way "the easy way out". You will struggle, we all do, it's not all unicorns and rainbows. It is SO worth the journey and the end result is priceless. That's my 2 cents. Best of luck to you!

Unfortunately I have more experience with a catheter than I would like. In 2009 I had a hysterectomy and the doctor sliced my bladder by accident. I had to have a catheter for two weeks! Then in 2010 I had a bladder suspension. Yep, that went wrong also! The suspension worked too well and I couldn't go at all. Two days after the surgery I was running a fever and in severe pain. I went to ER and they inserted the catheter and I had to have it for five days. When the problem didn't correct itself I had to have surgery again 10 days later. The catheter is uncomfortable but bearable. I think if you do have one in the hospital you will probably either have so much stomach pain you wont even think about it or will be on pain meds and wont care. :-)

I just got scheduled for October 22nd! They had an opening on Oct 3 that I really wanted, but my friend is going with me as my companion and wasn't available. I start the preop diet in 3 weeks. Until then, I am having a food Farewell Tour and enjoying some favorites for the last time for a long long time. I am also buying some samples of different Protein shakes to see which ones I like. Good luck!

Congratulations! I too am having a little farewell party to "bad" foods this week.. Particularly Chinese which I LOVE egg rolls! Feel like I'm having a funeral and wake all together.. ???? I am going today to start testing out Protein Shakes, I heard premiere protein is pretty good and high in protein, 30 grams I think, you can get it in bulk off Amazon and even with prime(free shipping)! Let me know which ones you prefer!! Oh and I am also Vitamin shopping as well, my vit d was low and I really need to start those this week!

I am in your exact situation. Highest weight 217. Surgery day weight 200. I had surgery a week ago and have lost about a pound a day so far. I had high blood pressure. I have been having dizzy spell's and checked my blood pressure yesterday and it was very very low. So it's helping already and I need to call my doctor today to adjust my medicine! So far I am ecstatic that I went through with this. I have a long way to go. I need to focus on soft foods which I have not done yet.

Sleeved April 9th! Here's my recap!
MelBooks replied to MelBooks's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Day 6 after surgery: Today has gone pretty well. I'm SO lucky that I have lots of help with the kids and around the house, so I've been able to to some very good healing. What's working: warm liquids are the best, my decaf tea in the am and evening is really helping with my Water requirements. I bought some chicken tortilla Soup and strained it really well. I mixed it with a bit of greek yogurt, and it was a nice dinner last night and lunch today. It was a bit thicker than the corn soup I tried before, so I probably ate about 2 tablespoons before I worried it was too much. Almost every Protein shake I try has a horrible after taste to me, even ones I used as my pre-op, so I've been brushing my teeth a lot and chewing a 1/2 piece of SF gum (I have a jaw issue, so I'm not supposed to to chew gum but seriously, it's gross). I went out for about a 25 minute walk today and it felt pretty good. I went nice and slow. I'm having some lingering right shoulder pain, but I'm starting to wonder if it's related to another issue I have and not strictly surgery related. I see my surgeon tomorrow for the post-op and then I have another week of "full liquids." I'm going to get so bored! I'm trying so hard to keep my eye on the prize though and talk myself through any weird head games I play on myself. -
Why am I sabotaging myself?
Rebeccastl615 replied to ISING2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nicole, it seems you and I are so similar. I am 39 (just a bit older than you :smile2: ), have yo-yo'd my whole life with weight and diets, I was banded on 7/22. I had to have 2 cc's removed a few weeks after surgery, and now have had 2 fills (2nd one yesterday!) and I have a total of 2.5 cc's in my 9 (I think) cc band. I have lost 23 pounds total and am constantly struggling with the food issue. I cannot really tell yet if I have more restriction now with the 2nd fill since it was just yesterday but I am sure hoping. I am hoping to lose 80 more pounds by next June. I really find it helpful seeing others posts that are going through similar experiences as me, that were banded around the same time as me. Good luck to you and let's hope we can get through this together and reach our goal weights! -
@vegasurvivor I am so glad your feeling positive! I hate to read about how people struggle and feel regret but your outlook is a great one. Personally, I love stalls. I always notice how my body will shift during a stall, and I stall regularly. But 40lbs is amazing! Looks like you and I are on a similar trajectory as I’ve lost about the same. I love your positivity and wish you all the success in exceeding your goals!

I am just beginning week two of stage 3 post surgery (date was 7/31) and I've been doing pretty well but I am SO tired of sweet! My protein shakes are all sweet (save for chicken soup, which I have once a day). It seems like all of the recipes for soft foods on this stage are for more sweet things -- and that grosses me out. I have been eating a soft scrambled egg once a day, and made the ricotta bake, but does anyone else have good suggestions for what I can eat for the next week? I think tuna is okay, so I will add that. What about other meats? Have you done ok with ground turkey, chili, or other more substantial protein-based savory recipes? Please share!

Today is post Op day # 4 for me. I'm feeling really good. I'm staying on top of my pain meds. The only thing I'm having a problem with is getting out of bed because my bed is low to the ground. Quick question... When are your first appointments? The hospital said to make one 2 weeks out but that seems really far out.
-
Day three was bad for me too, but I pushed through the pain and really worked on trying to walk around the house. I would take my pain medicine and walk for 10 minutes in the house and then nap because the meds made me tired. It really helped though. I took the meds every 4 hours and did not skip even if I did not feel any pain I was able to walk a lot and on day 4 I felt a million times better. Keep your chin up. My life has changed so much in just two months and I will never regret this. Feel better and get ready to really start living!!!

March 8th Sleevers Weight Loss So Far?
alanah replied to missmarie124's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved March 8 as well! Yesterday my Fitbit scale had me confused with my husband ..... I weigh 222. Day of surgery I was 242 so 20 pounds since surgery. I'm exhausted though.... I do have issues getting in all my protein and water but each day I'm getting there. I have low iron as well .... I'm sure my post op diet isn't helping with that! . I took an extra week off after we returned from vacation/surgery and have sent my daughter to daycare just so I could have a week to myself. . Hoping to get on the treadmill for some walking as the snow isn't melting anytime soon here! -
Nutritionist Visit FREAKED me out :-(
missmeow replied to PinkBubble's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1) Never had this problem. The "sippy" phase is right after surgery and only lasts about 1-2 weeks. My doctor's notes say you should be able to drink 16 oz in an hour right after surgery, but for me, I had to concentrate to do that. Around week 10 or so, I was able to drink normally and get in my 20 ounces in an hour taking my sweet time. I could probably go faster but I am not a big drinker. I drink 60-80 ounces a day now. 2) You won't have room to drink/eat if you are eating dense Protein. Now crunchy naughty carby stuff, yeah you can drink and eat, but you don't want to get into that habit. If you chew all of your food properly and eat at an appropriate rate, you don't need to wash the food down. It goes down on its own. 3) Try finding a Protein shake now because you will be needing them for the first few months. You can do protein chicken Soups or at protein to your regular foods but I found the protein supplements to not be unflavored and just gross. It's easier to drink a premiere protein for Breakfast for me. You will probably need some kind of supplement until you can get your protein and calories counts up high enough to get your full amount of protein in. I'm 6 months out and drinking shakes for breakfast. It's just easier for me and I don't mind the taste. -

Poorehouse replied to PinkBubble's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am new to and supposed to have this surgery 10-24-13. I would love to have all those answers too. I did a post asking what the best flavor protein drink there is for flavor the one that several people liked was called Premier and you can get samples. Unjury was another and I have tried it and it was shockingly good to me and I HATE healthy anything (I could have write your post lol). They also have a Chicken Soup flavor that several people liked. I called Unjury and ordered a sample pack of all 5 flavored they have. I do know you will be on a liquid diet before and after for almost 6-8 WEEKS which I'm told is the hardest part... But once that is over it seems to he worth it. Also there are water based protein drinks if you don't want them think. My friend did sleeve lust 75 in a year and is maintaining. She said if you go to a GNC health food vitamin store tell them you are looking for protein drinks they are they only store that will let you return it if you don't like the flavor!!! And that is great because they are not cheap so that should really help you out trying to find what works for you. I hope that helps good luck to you!!! -
toledo ohio gastric sleeve journey
thenovelist posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello I am new to the forum as well as the journey to weight loss surgery. Brief introduction I am 26 years old and weighs 295. I just spoke to my insurance company and they let me know I am covered for weight loss surgery (insurance is paramount advantage). I pretty much have to do the same list of things i was given at the toledo promedica seminar. Such as see a dietian for three months which cost 50 dollars out of pocket, talk to a psyc, and have a doctor referral which I already have. I have my referral for mercy dr matthew instead of promedica because I am undecieded. I hope to find somone who has done this in Toledo that has advice. I dont want to have wait three months like with promedica nor pay 50 per visit. However, I dont know the terms of Mercy yet so any help is appreicated. In addition, I am looking for people who are going through this journey that I can relate with. I am up for discussion and looking forward to meeting new people.
