    Feedback Appreciated

I have gone thru the same thing. What has helped me is Isopure drinks add crystal lite and it changes the flavor but now have no problem getting in my water or protein. Isopure has 40 grams of protein. I pour Isopure in a 32 oz bottle, crystal lite and add water to 32 oz. mark. Another is I take 1.4 c of fat free greek yogurt and a snack pack of sf vanilla pudding stir together and add pumpkin pie spice to add some more flavor. But try and stay with what the doctors tell you to eat so you won't harm your stomach.
  2. I swear, I must be an idiot... EVERY morning...EVERY...I eat a yogurt...I can't eat any solids.... My kids have bananas and Cereal with milk. They don't eat the entire banana and I take a bite because I LOVE bananas and I think...hey, these are mushy, I'll just take a bite...Even though I KNOW I can't eat anything solid in the morning...And EVERY morning I sit with a lump of banana in my mouth. WHAT IS MY PROBLEM??? I seriously don't understand my dysfunction...And yet, that banana is in my mouth faster than you can say stuck as hell. I don't slime or anything, (Well...I'm lying, I did the other day)...I just get it stuck for a few minutes... What is my problem??? Besides obvious stupidity??? Rain

    Eating

I'm transitioning off soft foods into regular now so for the last few weeks I was having: Breakfast - greek yogurt or low fat cottage cheese or scrambled/hard boiled egg lunch - pouch of tuna or salmon or 2oz low sodium/low fat lunch meat and a low fat string cheese dinner - tilapia baked in a foil pouch (keeps it moist and soft, change up the flavor by adding different herbs/spices), ricotta bake, canned chicken, shrimp and if room an ounce or so of soft cooked non-starchy veg - carrots, green Beans etc I still did one Protein shake a day to make sure i got enough protein.
  4. I was sleeved may 23, 2012. And have lost 40lbs! I have started running, riding bikes, and finally have enough energy to keep up with my three little ones. I have not had many negatives with this surgery except I'm so bored with the food choices ( yogurt, soup, eggs, sugar free pudding). And I'm sick of people's negative feed back like well you look great but I bet you could of done this with out the surgery, can't they just he happy for me. I kinda just think their jealous. Maybe I should bag up my fat clothes and give it to them! How do you deal with the negative comments?

    How long?!?!

Every doctor has a different diet post-surgery. The key is to make sure you know what it is! I had to go through so much education that there wasn't a doubt in my mind what I was going to be eating from day one right on through the first month. But not all doctors are that informative, from what I've seen on this site (hard to believe you'd do gastric surgery on someone then not tell them what to eat). I'll tell you mine just to give you an example and then you need to find out from your doctor what he wants and follow what he tells you. I was on clear liquids from day 1 (day of surgery) to day 4 On day 4 I started 'soft proteins' which included chicken, turkey, fish, eggs, cottage cheese, refried beans, low fat cheese, low fat/low sugar yogurt. I stayed on soft proteins until my first fill. After the fill I had to do clear liquids for 3 days. Then, I could eat normally! (well, normally for a banded person!) (again, your doctor will tell you what that is)

    Random restriction...temperamental band!

I have days when my band is tighter than others. Breakfast for me is usually greek yogurt or maybe eggs over easy. I really can't tolerate any "real" food until I've been up and going for a few hours. Part of that is the band and part of it is just that I've never been much of a breakfast eater anyway. By lunch time, I'm usually fine and can eat anything I want without difficulty. There are some days when it just seems to be tighter than others but I can usually trace it back to a specific cause such as being sick or stressed or the occasional "stuck" episode.

    LIver Shrinking Diet

I start my 2 week diet on Jan 5..I have 4 protein shakes a day plus sf popsicles..jello..yogurt..low sodium soups/broth..and I get unlimited veggies. My surgeon says they added the veggies because patients missed the "chewing". I am going this week for my supplies

    Encouragement needed...

I've had 6 surgeries over my 55 years. This one was the EASIEST by far. I had mine in San Diego at UCSD Medical Center. The team was incredible. The only thing that was slightly uncomfortable was the shot. It burned like a tetanus shot for a few minutes. Nothing. I took 3 nice breaths of oxygen and ....awoke. Without grogginess or nausea.I had a mild sore throat and a little cut on the inside of a lip that went in a few days. Throat lozenges the first day only. Felt a little discomfort in the tummy so they gave me a pain med. It went away. I needed some help being lifted and lowered into bed. The incision sites would OUCH a bit if I used my core muscles. That passed by day 3. I took 3 dosages of the tylenol with codeine and stuck it in the med cabinet. The most discomfort has been sore shoulders and clavical area from the CO2 used to inflate the torso. It is tolerable, not as intense for me as a hard workout. Walking helps. Bloating has been slightly uncomfortable, feeling like you need to pass the gas and can't. It's not painful. That is almost gone now I had diarrhea for a couple of days. That passed when I graduated from Clear liquids to full liquids. The most painful experience for me the entire time was the pre-op procedure for swallowing--the manometry--where the tube with the camera goes thru the nose into the tummy. I had a deviated nose (didn't know it), so it was painful trying to shove the tube up a broken nose. And then the Water drops went into my trachea and lungs, instead of the esophogus. It's over. Onward! Best to you. PS Read about the dietary stages in the forum. If I were you, I'd make sure I followed the more conservative dietary guidance. I was surprised you're eating whole food before surgery. My surgical team said liquids are crucial to keep the liver small. I drank 2-3 Protein drinks, sf popsicles, Jello, 3 servings of yogurt, cottage cheese, clear broth 2 weeks before surgery. Those who needed to lose greater weight did this a month, a nurse told me.

    Post op gastric sleeve!

You're still too new for mushy foods so don't push it. Keep walking as much as you can, it will push the gas out of your system. It just takes a little bit of time, you can't rush these things. You might want to lay off the juice for a few days and stick with the Water and popsicles. The juice might be adding to your gas and runny stools. broth, Jello, and yogurt should be pretty much what you're supposed to eat for another week or so. Your stomach is very sensitive and you could hurt it by putting food in there that it is not able to digest. Take it easy and the sleeve will take care of you during your weight loss. Good luck to you.
  10. I second the refried Beans, I had a scoop with sour cream, grated tasty cheese, salsa and chopped avocado, yummy. Lentil dahl with a good dollop of thick natural yogurt and lemon juice squeezed all over. Mashed broccoli, carrot, pumpkin and potato with a bit of cheese mashed in and some gravy poured over. Ordinary chunky Soups like beef and vegetable, irish stew etc just blended a bit more. A salad of skinned cucumber, chopped skinned tomato, chopped avocado a can of flavoured tuna and a small can of chickpeas (will make more than one meal probably) - this is pretty mushy when you chew it, but maybe more towards the end of mushies. pureed berries stirred into greek yogurt. A thick fruit smoothie for breakfast - some bran, milk, yogurt and a banana and some berries. Mmmm, I loved mushies!

    hungry !

yes you are ready for a fill. first and foremost eat what is on your list and if that isn't holding you eat something healthy to get you to your next meal. greek yogurt, protein bar, something hot to drink, or now that we are having such warm weather a ice coffee with protein. eat something protein.
  12. Maybe it's me, or maybe after I'm banded I'll be spending less. I start my pre-op diet tomorrow and I went shopping today for hopefully the next 2-3 weeks. I got to the register and had spent a little over $100 bucks. I have no idea how, I noramlly only spent $80-90 bucks for 2 weeks worth of food. I did buy these 1/2 cup storage containers to bring lunch to work. And a few measuring cups. I'm a little depressed now, $100 bucks is alot for food and all I bought was liquid stuff (yogurt, jello, broth, water, etc...) Oh well, only time will tell, if I spent less after I'm banded.

    help, stuck right now

Stitchy: It was a flour tortilla. Lesson learned! Thanks for staying in contact with me last night. DonnaB: Thanks for sharing your journal. I had read it not too long before I went in for this fill. I can't imagine last night being longer than it was. I don't think I would have survived 6 hours of that. NewSho: Thanks for posting the link for the pic. That's not how I did it. Maybe that's why bending over the arm of the couch helped. I had more downward gravity. I'll call their office in the morning. I'll post what happens. Till then, liquids. I can feel that I am very swollen. Even the yogurt smoothie feels like to much. Back to clear for awhile. I hope my band survived this.

WHAT IS GOING ON WITh ME?

Hi Nykee! I can sympathize, it's really frustrating sometimes. Your band may indeed have slipped, or it may not. Either way you have to address this issue for reasons other than weight. You don't want to damage your esophagus because that can lead to future problems that are way worse. Since you have esophagitis give Prevacid a shot. It will ease the inflammation and can help settle things down so you heal. And you have to figure out how to get the nutrition you need without upchucking--repeated PBing (which is what you're doing) just makes the problem worse. Stick to Protein drinks and yogurt/other mushies until you are sure this problem is kicked. From what you say it sounds like you'll need further medical attention. An endoscopy will diagnose erosion or a bad slip. Also, I don't believe a hiatal hernia with a band is something that can be ignored. Good luck and I hope it gets straightened out soon!

    Help! Thick liquid stage...

I got pretty creative with the soups by the end of it, including butternut squash soup and pea and pesto soup. Yogurt smoothies are good and you can buy pre-made ones that are fat- and sugar-free/low in sugar. You can also puree just about anything in a blender or food processor, just make sure to thin it out with broth, Water or juice depending on what you've got going in there. Be careful, though. I made the mistake of pureeing some beef stroganoff sauce (no rice or noodles) and thinned it out with beef broth, but it bloated me up. I think it was too soon for meats and too salty. You could try thinned baby food. I had the chicken and ham kinds but I didn't much care for the texture -- I found it kind of gritty. I also liked runny pudding and custards. My doc allowed me oatmeal and cream of wheat on full liquids as long as they were very watery and thin.

    Help!!! I need help, please

Do you have a copy of your bandster guidelines? I'm at work, but I think they are something like this: 1. Eat 3-4 oz of solid Protein twice a day, plus 1/2 to 1 cup of produce after the protein 3. Avoid Pasta, potatoes, rice, bread and other high-glycemic index foods. 4. Drink at least 64 oz of non-caloric fluids daily (except for up to 16 oz of milk, which is fine) 5. Do not drink anything for at least 1 hr after eating. 6. Avoid any mushy foods that slide through the band too easily - yogurt, cream Soups, etc. 7. Take a multi-Vitamin daily 8. Get 30 min of exercise at least 3 days a week 9. Stay away from junk food and alcohol Are you having any trouble with any of those? Even if you are following them really well, most people say those last few pounds are the toughest. So hang in there. Oh - fitday.com is free if you want to try logging all your food for a couple weeks and see what your daily intake is. Might be too high or too low. Congrats on the 80 lbs you lost -- that's fantastic! I can't wait til I'm out of plus sizes.
  17. Yes, you can eat oatmeal and drink a shake, although that may end up being too much food for you after you're filled. A lot of people put plain Protein powder in their oatmeal (I prefer the plain, unflavored soy protein). In order to make sure I get protein in for breakfast, I end up eating non-traditional breakfast meals. I'll eat some hummus or I'll eat some chicken. I know it sounds weird, but I don't let the fact that it's "breakfast time" dictate what type of food I eat. That being said, as I get fills, I will have to adjust accordingly because my tightness level will likely be higher in the mornings (as it is with lots of folks). So, if you're looking for traditional breakfast meals, you can try oatmeal with Protein Powder, eggs, cream of wheat with protein powder, Cereal with milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, or a protein shake.

    Unflavored protein?

I am post op 10 days. On protein shakes and yogurt.
  19. Anyone have success adding unflavored protein powder to hot or cold drinks or foods? My diet is very limited and I am concerned about getting in protein in for hair loss purposes. I bought isopure unflavored. Tips? Recipes? I am taking only clear fluids and protein shakes and yogurt at this point.
  20. Im not sure if I understood the nutritionist correctly on my in hospital meeting with her on thursday 4/13. I believe she said to start eating cream soups ( strained) sf yogurt, puddings etc. On Saturday 4/15. Does that sound right to you. Of course I do realise that are many variations between doctors.

    Body Signs

I have a meal plan from day 3-6 of yogurt, unsweetened apple sauce, cream of wheat, oatmeal, etc. Day 7-49 is when I can eat tuna, chicken, deli meat, cottage cheese, etc. Of course I am going to follow the doctor's rules, I'm curious to see if everyone has stuck to their plan. I bought hummus, watermelon, crystal light, laughing cow, string, feta and babebel cheeses. Today I had oatmeal for breakfast, half a protein shake for midmeal, a slice of deli meat and a babebel cheese for lunch and I seem to be keeping it down. I'm so impatient, I want it to go away all now! I walked around Sams club shopping today and I am pooped.

    Yogurt is ok?

Many drinks are empty calories, so I can completely understand that. But milk products, especially low-fat ones? I don't see an issue there (although low-carb fans would say to get full fat; I don't do low-carb, so this is just me). I eat low-fat (but not non-fat) yogurt, cheese, cottage cheese and have skim milk on a regular basis. I need the Calcium and Protein. Obviously I have to watch the portion sizes as with everything else. I would ask your doctor about having low-fat, high protein dairy products in small amounts.

    Liquid Diet

Pre op and post op I had different things I could eat. After surgery I could have soups - purred and strained, and they helped a lot. I was also allowed juice (no sugar added) and I made popsicles out of them. Yogurt on occasion (but I have to limit my dairy)

    1st Sliming Experience! Ughhh!

Wow! He is restrictive. My problem with that is that the LapBand should allow you to eat everything in smaller quantities. However, we are all different in how are bodies are. Mine seems to react well to high protein, fruits & veggies and lots of cheese. My typical diet is this: Breakfast: 8am 2 eggs with cheese & sausage (turkey) or Quaker Weight Control Maple & Brown Sugar. 1/2 an orange or bananaThis usually fills me up until 12:30 or 1pm Lunch: Low carb tortilla with turkey, mayo, lettuce cheese, almonds, 1/2 orange or 1/2 a banana. Snack: yogurt or SF/FF choc. pudding Dinner: 2-3 oz protein, 1/2 cup veggies or salad and some type of 1/2 cup carb (i.e., mashed potato or rice with gravy). I drink 2 K20 24oz. waters a day. I like the ice tea one the best. If I am super hungry I might eat some cheese with RF Wheat Thins or have 100 calorie snack packs. Again, this might not work for everyone but it does for me. It is kind of like South Beach but not as restrictive. I have recently been making quiches. If you like to cook tryout some of these recipes at Kalyn's Kitchen: Recipe Favorites I have found her website awesome with great recipes. Good luck! Cindy

    Need advise badly

I've lost 25 pounds so far - pre-surgery. I've lost 15 of those pounds in the last 2 weeks. Keep your total calorie intake below 1200. I have a Slim Fast Optima shake in the AM, a banana for a snack, a Lean Cuisine (go for the lower calorie ones) for lunch, a low-fat yogurt for snack and a salad for dinner. The Weight Watcher Desserts are low cal and a nice treat too for something sweet after dinner. I'm drinking a TON of Water and Crystal Light Iced Tea. Remember to get some exercise in there - walking, stretching, etc. Whatever you can manage. Keep away from carbs - bread, Pasta, rice and the weight WILL come off. Swear off fast food and soda (even diet) and limit the dairy (I'm a big fan of cheese and I've really kept away from cheese and the weight is coming off now). You can do this!
