  1. Thank you all so much!! I'm 1 week out and I feel amazing. I've been off pain and nausea meds for three days now....I'm enjoying protein shakes, yogurt and Popsicles with no issues....vitamins are going well...I'm hitting at least 10k steps a day according to my Fitbit....the only real side effect is gas....but from what I read...that's normal...and I'm still sleeping in a recliner...but it's a comfy one...so it's not too bad. I have to share...PB2...which is powdered peanuts is amazing when added to choc protein shake....it's like a Reese shake...yum!! My husband even loved it and he's a hardcore sweets guy lol. Hope you're all doing great!! ????????
  2. I guess everyone is different. My sister had her gastric bypass surgery around 15 or 16 years ago. She can eat, but still has trouble with certain foods such as ketchup, ice cream, rice, and yogurt. And she said pasta fills her up extremely fast. My mom on the other hand had her surgery like 13 or 14 years ago and pretty much can anything except for rice regular sodas, and ice cream.

    Spicy Food + No Water?

Water actually increases the burn with spicy food. The real solution is milk or dairy. Depending on what you're eating that's spicy, maybe you could counter the spice with sour cream or yogurt?

    Breakfast ideas

I always tried to keep my breakfast low carb and high protein, like the rest of my meals. Just because it's breakfast doesn't mean I need to eat a bunch of crappy carb-laden food. Now that I'm free to eat raw veggies I usually make a salad with about 3 ounces of steak and one ounce of raw baby spinach leaves. It is a great breakfast! Back when I was on soft foods I often had something like a poached egg over a piece of turkey sausage or slice of light spam; or Greek yogurt or cottage cheese with a spoonful of peanut butter or almond butter stirred in. No grains!

Strange Info from NUT re: Carbs

To put things in perspective, 60 grams of carbs is two or three apples or an English muffin and an apple or around three containers of Greek yogurt. Not a lot of stuff.

To eat or not to eat! LOL!

I eat Greek yogurt daily. I like the Dannon light and fit but I love the fage plain Greek and I add almonds. It's delicious!

To eat or not to eat! LOL!

A few other suggestions - 1) I add in a tablespoon of protein powder in to my yogurt to bump up the protein (and thus the car to protein ratio is different); 2) eat just half the container in 1 day - again cutting down the carbs. 3) I have used Fage plain yogurt with additions as suggested above like Torani Sugar Free flavored syrups and/or teaspoon or so of sugar free pudding mix (the powder) and/or jello powder and/or protein powder. This way you can make your own flavors. Having said all that my favorite is Danton Light and Fit Greek either Strawberry Cheesecake or Key Lime.

To eat or not to eat! LOL!

Eat Fage plain nonfat Greek yogurt and add fruit. I also will put in a squirt of monk fruit if the fruit isn't very sweet. Keeps the carb count way down. The Kirkland brand plain Greek nonfat yogurt is excellent too. It's cheaper if you belong to Costco.

To eat or not to eat! LOL!

@@Nikki Monroe its a great question. I feel differently than those who have already posted, which is one of the things I love about this site. I do not like artificial stuff in general, so I stay away from the Dannon and Yoplait "greek" yogurts because they are not really greek yogurt and are full of thickeners and other artificals. I choose to have a few more carbs with my yogurt and sometimes have chobani, although I prefer fage because I do not want cornstarch, I want yogurt. All "greek" yogurts are not the same. True greek yogurt is extensively strained to get the whey out which then leads to thicker, more condensed yogurt with more Protein.... Yoplait (and others) are not true greek yogurt as they use additives and fillers to thicken the yogurt, so if you are concerned about getting true additive-free yogurt, check the label for things like guar gum and pectin, carrageenan, sodium citrate, potassium sorbate, corn starch. I know this doesn't matter to everyone, but it did to me when I learned so thought I would share. I personally eat Fage, which as no fillers, additives etc added. http://www.foxnews.com/health/2013/10/04/6-myths-about-greek-yogurt/

I Don't Know What to Eat! Help!

I am ten weeks out and still in the "soft food" stage for two more weeks. At restaurants I usually order a cup of Soup or a shrimp cocktail. Baked fish would work - but it would take me a week to finish an entree! At home I usually eat things like cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, string cheese, chili, and egg salad. I could probably handle tuna salad, but haven't tried it yet. The only meat I've really had other than fish and seafood are tiny pieces of chicken and pork that were in Soups.

Almost 1 year and im not where i should be

To measure food, start with reading labels. If you are eating anything packaged the serving size/amount is on the label. You can use measuring cups, spoons, and a food scale to measure everything else. Ex. One single-serve container of yogurt just read the label. One serving out of a tub of yogurt you can use a measuring cup or measuring spoons. An app like MyFitnessPal is great because you can look up all kinds of foods (restaurant meals, name breads, and even homemade foods). You can also add your own if you have your own recipes, etc. Protein is so critical. Even if you don't focus on other things, at least making sure you count your protein so you get enough will be a big help for you. My protein goal is 100 grams a day. If I didn't track it in MyFitnessPal, I would never be able to keep up with how much I had and how much I still needed. My memory isn't that good.
  14. Hmmm... The rest of my post disappeared. You need more Protein, less snacky food. Where's the meat? The protein source? Complex carbs? Laughing cows are delicious with celery or pepper strips. Nuts are good, apples are eh.... cheese is great, eggs, shrimp, Jerky, chicken, hummus, edamame, yogurt (which I hate). My Snacks are usually shrimp salad, olives, cheese cubes, almonds, reduced fat beef hot dogs, refried black Beans with cheese with red peppers as the dipper. Pickles for salty crunch, ham or crab salad for indulgent spread, artichoke dip or crab dip with veggies. Riceless sushi, crab legs, chicken salad. Get rid of common carbs for a few weeks. You'll live. And drink Water. Lots of it.

    Feeling miserable

I only had to be on clear liquids the first few days, then I was allowed first stage full liquids (Protein shakes and drinkable yogurt), then strained cream Soups.

I Don't Know What to Eat! Help!

At six weeks out I was still eating a lot of foods from earlier phases: cottage cheese, yogurt, tuna, tilapia, salmon, turkey, cheese, meatballs, eggs, refried Beans, etc. I don't really cook a lot either. Just choose a Protein and then add a little bit of vegetable and fruit to it. Green beans and tomatoes are what I have been eating a lot of lately. I went with my NUTs guidelines through the different phases and added the new foods from each new phase to what I was already eating to expand my choices. As far as restaurants are concerned, I've also brought home leftovers from some restaurant meals (Greek, Mexican, Hibachi seafood, and Southern Cooking mostly). I also ordered Chinese a couple of times and got chicken and broccoli with extra chicken and no rice which stretched over several meals. I also had shrimp egg fu yung. I just use Protein shakes as a supplement and focus on real food. Did you NUT provide you with guidelines and a list of recommended foods? Whatever you eat at this stage, it helps if it's moist. Definitely eat slowly and chew thoroughly. I definitely didn't try dryer and tougher meats until closer to three months out.

    Protein Help!

Hi Mila! I had my surgery 3 weeks ago today. It has been a rough road, but I am getting better. I have a scrambled egg in the morning with 6gr of Protein. Then I have a 1/2 cup Greek Yogurt (about 12 gr of protein), and I mix it with 1/2 scoop of strawberry Protein powder (another 10 gr of protein). It tastes really good! For lunch I have some sort of meat (tuna, chicken, etc.) and I have another 1/2 cup Greek yogurt. I mix it with salt & lemon juice to make it savory & it is nice with the meat. The same for dinner. Not very exciting, I know, but it helps get the protein in. For Snacks I make sugar-free pudding with fat-free milk (maybe a problem for you with the lactose intolerance), and I add a scoop of unflavored protein powder so that each 1/2 cup serving of pudding is 9gr of protein. I use the unjury protein powder and it is really not that bad - even when mixed with Water. I will use the strawberry as a nice, cool drink over ice & it is 21 gr of protein! Good luck with your journey! Genevieve

Liz sounds great. I went to Panera Bread with my granddaughter last week and I ended up getting cheese/broccoli Soup that was delicious and it came with a baguette but I didn't even bite it at all. for dinner I wasn't up for a big meal, made hubby something and I had a yogurt. Quite happy and never stuffed. it is liberating.

To eat or not to eat! LOL!

My gut says that's pretty high in calories and sugar. I eat Dannon Light & Fit Greek. It's the least "greek" tasting yogurt I was able to find. Like you, I've never been a fan of greek yogurt. But there's no denying the higher Protein content! Here are the stats on Dannon Light & Fit: Calories: 80 Fat: 0 grams Carbs: 9 grams Sugars: 7 grams Protein: 12 grams It does have some artificial sweetener in there (sucralose), so if that's something you are avoiding, then it might not be your best option.
