Extremely out of shape - Could use some help.

I joined Planet Fitness for 10 bucks a month and they have people that will help you for free. They go around and teach you about the machines and help you make a program. I love the circuit training and they also have tons of cardio machines!

    Eating often?

I eat every two to three hours.I eat less than 200 calories at every small meal and try to make sure there is 10-15 gram protein minimum. For an example I may have triple zero Greek yogurt with five mixed berries and six to nine almonds.the next meal might be 1.5 scrambled egg with salsa, the next might be a balance protein bar.You get the idea.
  3. Thank you all for being so kind and supportive. That is why I love this site. I have been super secretive with everyone, hubby, and parents are the only ones who know so its been wonderful to talk to you all on here. I take a multi-with Iron, Vitamins B & D, Calcium Citrate, and it feels like I am forgetting one right now, which I probably am. I keep them in a carrier in my handbag, and just refill it on sundays. My B is sublingual, and I am on an additional iron which I am actually finishing this month for a while because My Iron is up from 6 to 183 thanks to my infusions!! Went to my 9 month official checkup and they told me they were so happy, that if I didn't lose another pound I would be well within my one year goal and were concerned, not wanting me to lose more than 10-15 more, that I may look disproportioned or sickly and I don't want that!! I hope you all are doing GREAT!!!!
  4. Hi all, My name is Brittaney Ede and I am a third year nutrition student at CQUniversity Rockhampton, Queensland. I am conducting a study to determine whether nutrient deficiencies exist in Sleeve Gastrectomy patients after 2 years of having the sleeve. As someone who has personally undergone a Sleeve Gastrectomy, I have always been curious to note whether my issues (namely iron, calcium and vitamina D deficiencies) are reciprocated in the greater SG population, and whether practice should be changed to offer more support to those who are struggling with their health. As I am only one person, I need your help to gather data for my research. I have created a survey containing 22 multiple choice questions about you and your surgery, it will take no longer than 10 minutes to complete. I am looking for women between the ages of 21-45 who had their surgery 6months-7 years ago. If this is you CLICK on this link to complete my survey --> https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GastricSleeveCQU Thank you, Brittaney

    November 2018 sleevers

Hi Surgery is Nov 19, 2019...
  7. Love your name, hehe. :-) I too have a husband who is not as supportive as I would like. However, a lot of his insecurities stem from his past relationships where two of his ex's had gastric bypass. Now his first girlfriend has gastric bypass about 10 years ago and she didn't have the proper therapy beforehand and she had several issues afterwards where in a sense she went pretty crazy. Their relationship ended, she lost weight, got married and had four kids. His ex-fiance also had gastric bypass and she had a lot of complications and ended up losing weight and leaving him(and also got married right away afterwards). My husband has always been attracted to curvy women and has always thought they are beautiful. He is somewhat concerned that following my weight loss he will not look at me the same way, however that's a risk I am willing to take to better my health. I do feel that he says that only because he is scared of me losing the weight and feeling threatened, I honestly believe he will find me more attractive since he always comments on pictures of me when I was slimmer and says I was sexy. Even if when I say slimmer I mean 260! lol Considering that he had two girlfriends have WLS and leave him, he is VERY insecure about me losing weight. When I mentioned that I was considering Lap-Band he was extremely upset. He kept saying that I was going to leave him and he started to emotionally disconnect from me for awhile. After I explained my reasoning and why I wanted Lap-Band(I have diabetes and PCOS and hope to have children one day) he started to come around somewhat but I'd be lying if I said he changed his tuned. We had a heart to heart and he explained that he loves my personality and how compassionate I am and he is scared that I am going to change as I lose weight. I have a therapist I meet with who specializes in Bariatic Surgery and he went with me twice and put his feelings out there. It was really good for the both of us and he got to express his anxiety regarding my surgery. I am currently one week post-op and I can tell you that we are doing ok, however it's tax season and my husband is a CPA and extremely stressed. I chose to have my surgery during tax season because I wanted him to be more focused on work, rather then my surgery so he didn't drive me insane. Hehe. I have done very well with recovery, however I have babied my husband quite a bit(making him dinner, doing laundry, packing his lunch for work, going to the grocery store, etc) even though I haven't been feeling in tip top shape. I wish he were more compassionate towards me and my healing process, however he has carried the groceries up for me and he has been walking with me every evening. He also has congratulated me on my weight loss so far and made sure to bring me flowers while I was doing my pre-op diet because I was so stressed and upset and also brought pretty flowers after surgery. My therapist told me that since he made it clear that he is not ready to support me 100% in this, that I cannot expect the support from him that I desire. I do appreciate that he is still as affectionate and loving towards me as he was before and hopefully as I lose weight he will understand that I have no intentions of leaving him. I married him because I love him and deep down he is one of the most sensitive and loving men I know. Regardless of how much I love and care about my husband, it was time for me to put myself first. Sometimes I think that this process will make us stronger, but you never know. I'm just taking everyday as it comes right now.

6mos. later 70lbs lighter and i still feel fat......

I'm exactly in your place. Banded 12/21/10, down 71 lbs and still feel extremely fat. I'm rejoicing in my victory though. I've went from a 26 in pants to a 22. I'm able to wear heels again. I can move so much better. Life is getting better in general because I'm starting to enjoy it again. It's actually happening for you. 70 pounds is huge! Imagine someone handing you 14 five pound bags of sugar to carry around. That's how much you've lost! It's awesome.
  9. It took me about 10 days to feel better, I went back to work at 2 weeks. I'm almost 4 weeks post op and I still have restriction, so I know I'm still swollen. Hang in there, it does get better.

If you have a Tanita BF% scale....

I personally think that all of those body fat % scales are wrong. I have one, too, and it's always suspiciously high. I go and have a caliper test done by the fitness trainer at my gym once every couple of months, and to the *percentage point*, my scale is ALWAYS off by 10%. When I first got the band, the scale told me I was 54% body fat, but the trainer told me I was 44%. Now, the trainer tells me I am 27% body fat, but the scale is telling me I'm 37%! I say...take what the scale says with a HUGE graint of salt.

    A long road...

I was expecting at least a week if not more based on all the insurance horror stories I've been reading here. I guess if you take the time to get all your ducks in a row things move more quickly. I think the key reason is that the PCP I've been using for the last 3 or 4 years has kept detailed notes of the progress and then the lack of progress of my attempts to lose weight. Interesting to read them myself, a true roller coaster experience for sure. BTW - do you use the lapband support group sessions that Abkin/Bertha offer? Are they worth while? Thinking of going to the 11/19 one to check it out. I'm not sure group meetings are for me as I'm an Internet type person but willing to try anything to help adjust to my new life ahead.

    Time of the month

It altered my cycle for 6 mons. It came 2 days after surgery which was 2 weeks early. It skipped 2 - 3 mons. Then it came 2 times in the same month, which happened twice. By month 6, it returned to normal. Now that's cycle adjustment, lets talk about the hot flashes. Because of the hormonal changes caused by the weight loss, the hot flashes & night sweats started 3 months post op. While they still occur at almost 10 months out, they are manageable with Estroven I know at 47 i am at THE age, but doc sad this brought it along sooner. Not complaining, just sharing.

Sounds like the personal trainer didn't work out a couple of weeks ago?? One thing my doctor told me is that you don't have to step one foot in a gym to be success with the band...we have our own gym outside! I was your size too when he said it and I lost 130 lbs in 10 months! Walking, Running and Swimming are my doctors top choices for exercise. I think if you started to walk..put on some music...it might be the best thing for you. It will get you out of the house away from the drama. Do you cook or participate in the meal preparation? If not, why don't you start? This could help you prepare more meals that are higher in protein...plus it keeps you busy. The main reason I am going to say to stop smoking the pot is due to smoking will cause you to have ulcers with your band...you really don't want that to happen do you? I wish you the very best on your journey and I am proud of your loss so far! Keep up the continued success! Take care!

    Phentermine????

Phentermine, taken alone is safer alternative to using it in conjunction with fenfluramine, which was associated with some significant cardiac risks in the 80's. I had used it several times over the 10 years prior to my band surgery. Your body does build a rapid tolerance to it, so it was effective for only about 3 months, and then I would have to go off of it for another 6 months. A three month prescription was all that my physician would prescribe. I lost about 30 pounds during the 3 months, and did manage to keep most of the weight off after every 3 months off of it. "Rebound weight gain" is common, when the patient needs to go off of the medication. This can happen if the individual does nothing to maintain a long term adjustment in life style with changes to smaller portions and exercise. I have not taken it for several years now. I recall that I did like the increased energy associated with it, and though I took in in the morning, I did not like the insomnia which I also experienced while taking it.

    Height

I agree with the above entirely. The only thing I look at, if I feel the need to, is the surgery date and their current BMI. That gives me a good indicator of progress.. But since I passed month 5, I've even given up doing that. Horses for courses. But and for your information - I'm 5ft 10

    Height

Let me be the contrarian here. Looking at this from a guy's point of view, I prefer to use the word "reference" in place of the word compare. We all know comparing oneself to another isn't an optimal way or logical way of gauging our progress. I like to say we should only compare ourselves to who we were yesterday or last year to who we are now. And for most of the WLS members, we're better off now than yesteryear. I'd like to see some members post their gender. It makes a difference to me how to respond and how the surgery affects them. I'd also like to see their goal weight? I would also like to see height and weight. Let's say it's a male, and he's 246 lbs. That's a lot of weight for a guy who's 5' 6" but not so bad if he's 6' 4". You could say the same for women. 170 lbs on a 5' 10" frame isn't nearly the same as it is for someone who is 5' 2". I'm not comparing people, I'm using stats to "reference" their progress or loss? And of course, these references are mearly generalizations. When I see a profile and I only see 170 lbs, I have no reference to how far away they are from achieving their goal or reference how far they've come. jmo

7 weeks post op plateau HELP!

Do what you have to do to get in your 80 grams of protein, even if that means eating 10 times a day. The same with fluids. Don't go to sleep at night until you have gotten it all in. It is difficult at first, but if you keep sipping, you can do it.

    Icky buy honest questions

Just wanted to chime in since we are the same age. I have lost 140 pounds in 10 months, and still have about 40 to go. My skin has not been as bad as I thought, although in places it does sometimes bother me (upper inner thighs ). It was so worth having the band done, though. I really think it has saved my life. Regarding the skin, I also think a factor is how long you have been big, and for me that was 20 years. My skin was stretched for a loooong time. Hope that helps.
  20. My surgery (bypass) was yesterday the 27th. My surgeon said everything went well. He also repaired my hiatal hernia. Aside from the gas I was inflated with, I haven't had a lot of pain, just discomfort (I'd say 3 on a scale of 10). I took a nice long walk yesterday to help. I've been sipping icy cold water, which I know some have had problems with. Later this morning, I'm being discharged. Then the real fun begins. [emoji4]

Am I Crazy For Wanting Lap Band Surgery?

That's a great point emonie. My wife the healthcare professional and lapband skeptic, has lost 10 lbs since I entered the green zone. She's a believer now so that's a great point that we can influence others with our good eating habits. tmf

    Secret Surgery

Hi all, I'm about 9 days away from surgery and I'm still not offering information about the surgery to many people but when they see me drinking the protein shakes and turning down solid food as a part of my 10 day pre op diet, they ask and with out hesitation I tell them. So far no negativity, mostly just "oh ok" and 1 co worker whom i think is more excited than i am lol. I'm finding it a little easier to tell co workers than I am family. I guess because I'm forced to live with my families judgement while I only see co workers 8 hours a day.
  23. Im 10 days out and I'm scared too. I can't take the vitamins. They make me nauseous. My sister had the sleeve in June said zinc helped reverse hair loss for her. Good luck!

How long before you were eating mushy-food?

So just to be sure, some people were safe eating soft food after a week instead of 10-14 days? I'm just asking because I feel pretty confident that I can go ahead and start eating blended foods, I just want to see if other people have been able to do this.

    Scared

You will be fine. I was terrified, too. I was banded on Monday and 6 days later, I have lost 10 pounds. I feel great and my only regret is waiting so long before I got banded. I am never hungry. I already see that the band works. I hope you feel better about your decision soon. This is a piece of cake!
