    July Butterflies Master Thread

I have a hard time with eggs and any type of bread product. The things I miss the most are sandwiches and pizza. I mourn for them, but I am certainly happier with weight loss and if I have to continue to mourn the loss I will. At my last fill which is always done under fluoro, my PA said my pouch had enlarged a little. Of course I freaked, and she said it was nothing to worry about and on a scale of 1-10 with 10 the largest, it was a 2. I told her I had been PBing still trying to find some Protein I could eat besides fish. She said to go on liquids for 2 days and eat really small meals after that ( 1 cup at the most) and she would check it again at the end of the month. Has anyone experienced this yet? What did you do and did it work? Wendy said if it didn't revert she could do a complete unfill for a month or more. This idea scares me to death as I picture uncontrollable eating and weight gain. Help!
  2. Band _Groupie - Wow we are in the exact same boat. I had to have an unfill two months ago and I am now up 11 pounds from my lowest weight. I am also watching myself and doing my best this week (and next). If I have not started to lose again, I'll go in for a very small fill. I havent been on LBT in a long time. It's my weight gain that brought me back. Here's hoping you and I both start to see the scale moving down!
  3. I had the sleeve at 19, I was terrified of the bypass because I was nervous about them touching my intestines, but now at 22 after weight gain and awful heartburn that led to stomach ulcers, I will be converting in July. Just looking for anyone who may have converted, what was different post op with the bypass than post op with the sleeve?

  5. Thought I should introduce myself since I've been lurking around. My name is Cassandra, I'm 29, I've been married for 7.5 years and I have an 18 month old son. I'm from Lubbock, TX. I was diagnosed with PCOS as a teen but my weight gain began in my very early 20's. I put on 70 lb in a matter of 12 months. I was always average sized (size 10 or so) and athletic throughout high school so the sudden weight gain accompanied by major hormonal changes was a shock to my system. Over the years I've become less physically active because I become frustrated with little to no results from so much effort. As a result I've gained an additional 30 lb on top of the 70 I gained at first. I also struggled with infertility as a result of the PCOS. It took 5 years to conceive our son, and only with the help of medical intervention. I also had some complications during pregnancy such as high blood pressure and gestational diabetes that were caused by my weight. I'm hoping to have more children in the future, but I do not want to put my future children or myself at such a high risk. I need to fix this now. So now I have 100 lb to lose, and I've decided that WLS is my best option for success. I met with a surgeon (Dr. David Syn) and because of other health issues that have me dependant on nsaids, we have chosen the sleeve. I had my psych eval and endoscopy, so I am now only waiting on insurance approval. Actually they should be submitting to insurance today. I'm hoping for a quick approval process but I'm prepared to have to wait. I may end up needing to complete 12 weeks of supervised nutrition, and in the worst case scenario, I might need to wait out a 6-month pre existing condition period, which will end August 1st. Thanks for reading, I'm hoping to learn a lot from this forum.
  6. Hi I can empathize with your frustration level. I was banded Jan 08 and I was doing fine until October when we went to Australia. I haven't had a fill since Sept and though I had decided to just eat whatever while we were away now I am feeling the effects. we were only home for two weeks then we have been away again visiting family and friends for Christmas and eating whatever. Unfortunately, the foods that slide cause the weight gain. I need a fill and motivation to get back on the wagon. We are going home tomorrow and I hope to stop for a fill if I can get an appt. Let me know how you do. We'll compare notes. Good luck to you.

    Banded On March 23Rd!!!!!

Hey Twin yeah the website acting crazy had me bummed out. I get on here everyday or every other day just to kinda check in or read up on stuff but its wouldn't let me do anything ugh. So glad it's back to norm now. Your lucky to be starting foods now I can't start mine for another week. The mushies have been going good for me I find myself not as hungry and I still drink 2 protein shakes everyday. I mainly stick to cottage cheese and yogurt and I have 1 cup instant mashed potatos that I take to work if I get hungry. But so far so good. Easter i kinda ate a little more becuz it was a holiday lol. But it was all mushy So as far as no weight gain no weight lost it's going to happen no worries there just keep doing what your doing it's going to come off. As far as workout I have a gazelle it's like a sking machine i guess it works your whole body and it's fun. I aslo have a treadmill but it's a manuel one so it's super had to do. My dr cleared me so light exercise just no kinda ab workouts. My incision where my port is the corner is kinda infected so I have been cleaning it and putting neosporin on it, it's starting to itch so im assuming it's healing. But other then that everything is goin ok.

My name is Jane. You ladies can call me that, if you want. Doneganregiime, I buy my arch support inserts at Walmart, but I buy the men's ones. I have big feet, and I'm heavy, so those work well for me. They are about $15 a pair, so I have several sets. It says on the pkg that they are for plantar's fasciitis. Dlm59, I'm eating just about everything now, except things like raw apples, steak, and stuff like that. I'm so used to counting carbs from past diets, that it is a relief to not have to worry about them yet. Once I eat my Protein, there's not much room left anyway. MJM, the weight gain is from the IV, I feel certain. No way you can be gaining any other way! I'm just so glad you're doing better! I had a small bit of barbecue pork for dinner, with about a tablespoon of baked potato. YUM! I fixed the pork in the crock pot, so it was super tender. Have a good Wednesday!

Scared to go through with surgery

Do you know what all an endocrinologist tests for? It’s not just hypo and hyperthyroidism, right?? I am in maintenance and struggling big time. I feel like the only way to maintain my weight is to be on a diet (and hungry) for the rest of my life cause I add in a few calories and I gain. I feel like there is something going on with my hormones that my primary doc is missing. I see him today and plan to ask a lot of questions. Just wondering what conditions cause weight gain that I should be questioning him about.

Well, I am starting liquids tomorrow - for three days. I know that is not so much compared to some of you...but I am not looking forward to it since I am not a fan of the Protein drink! ICK. So, tonight I am having a slice of pizza. Not so much of a finale, but I have been doing South Beach/Atkins (sort of my own hybrid) for 2.5 weeks and I would really like a little bread. It was kind of my fiance's idea. He started the diet with me and wanted to lose 25 pounds (we are bad influences on each other. He gain about 30 pounds since we met four years ago, I gained about 70:cry )and said when he got half way he was going to have a treat...so here he is. It is a little annoying actually. Guys just lose so much easier. I mean he does do a lot of sports and exercises more than me, but still. He actually weighs 10 pounds less than me! I have never mentioned that to him. And I sort of underreport my weight gain (not that he can't tell, but...) Its embarassing especially since he is almost a foot taller than me. But I really should be thankful he is dieting with me. It has been a lot easier since we are both on the diet. His idea of a diet was portion control of regular meals (HAHA). That is virtually impossible for me. I need to do cold turkey. So, this time we actually cleaned out the pantry. In the past, things like chocolate chips would be left for him to have as a snack...of course I would help myself to those even if I had eaten a lot already): He also likes to take walks at night ( I of course don't) so he motivates (guilts?) me to take walks with him. Anyway sorry for the rant. I am starting to get a little more nervous. Olive
  12. Im so happy! I just spoke with my doctor, and my surgery is back on track for next Tuesday 21st! It was a few days of uncertainty and stress with the possibility of having to reschedule due to my previous weight gain, but I proved to myself and the doctors how committed I am. I have lost 8 pounds during the first week of liquid diet thanks for your support, and good luck to everyone on your journeys!!

    Enabling

Main Entry: en·abler Pronunciation: \i-ˈnā-blər, -bəl-ər\ Function: noun Date: 1615: one that enables another to achieve an end ; especially : one who enables another to persist in self-destructive behavior (as substance abuse) by providing excuses or by making it possible to avoid the consequences of such behavior food ADDICTION Food addiction manifests itself in the uncontrollable craving for excess food that follows the ingestion of refined carbohydrates, primarily sugar and flour substances that are quickly metabolized and turned into sugar in the bloodstream. Due to those uncontrollable cravings, a food addict's quality of life deteriorates when he or she eats sugar, flour or wheat. It can deteriorate physically, emotionally, socially and/or spiritually. If any of the following symptoms are familiar to you, you may be a food addict: Physical Symptoms of Food Addiction • Do you think you cannot control your intake of food, especially junk food or high sugar foods? • Have you tried different diets or weight loss programs, but none has worked permanently? • Have you found yourself vomiting, using laxatives, diuretics, or exercising a lot to avoid a weight gain after you have eaten a lot? Many food addicts are obese and have tried numerous methods for weight control (diets, drugs, surgery, etc.) yet nothing has created a permanent solution. Other food addicts have never been obese. Their physical weight has been controlled by extreme measures such as excessive exercise, purging through vomiting or laxatives (bulimia), or the severe and unhealthy limiting of food substances(anorexia). No matter which version of food addiction fits you, all of these symptoms become more severe with time and eventually lead to physical problems that can create an early and sometimes painful death. Emotional Symptoms of Food Addiction • Do you find yourself feeling depressed, hopeless, sad or ashamed about your eating or your weight? • Do you find yourself eating when you are upset or reward yourself with food when you do something good? • Have you ever noticed after eating sugar, flour, or wheat that you become more irritable? Food addicts notice that their emotions become more severe, intense, or unreasonable when eating the addictive substances. For many food addicts, emotional life may deteriorate into despair, depression, or thoughts of suicide. Social Symptoms of Food Addiction • Do you eat in private so no one will see you? • Do you avoid social interactions because you feel you do not look good enough or do not have the proper fitting clothes to wear? • Do you steal other people’s food? • Are you more interested in what food is served at social gatherings than looking forward to the warmth of being with the people attending? A food addict’s social life is affected by intense obsessive thinking about food. Making eye contact with people and taking an interest in developing friendships or intimate relationships become secondary to locating and eating addictive foods. Food addicts often hide or steal foods and eat in secret.

I didn't eat huge quantities but ate very rich meals and liquid supplements(eg- copious amounts of wines and the occasional cocktails) while in business meetings and while traveling or dining out with my wife, family and or friends. My long hours and not sticking to workouts aided in my weight gain. I did the 5:30am workout for awhile and lost 60lbs. When I stopped hitting the gym, I regained 70lbs.

Thanks for the support Kimaly. I used to get on LB Talk almost daily for a year and it did help. I also kept an online food journal and really need to get back to that. I had to have a total unfill this past Nov. I had been at almost perfect restriction and was losing steadily but had a very traumatic tragedy happen in our family and I was in total shock and couldn't eat for a week. When I did come around and try to eat, the stress had tightened my band to the point where I could hardly swallow water. I had lost 12 lbs in 10 days and looked like death warmed over. So had to have a total unfill and have slowly been trying to get back to where I was before but my dr. wants me to take it slow but I obsessing over this weight gain but can't seem to get motivated like I was before.
  16. When I was pregnant three years ago my doc was really big on weight gain. He insisted that I should, at most, gain 10 pounds through the whole pregnancy. He recommended I not gain any. When I questioned the idea that I "diet" while pregnant and how that would be healthy for a baby growing inside me he told me "Stephanie, during WWII there were plenty of women pregnant in concentration camps. They certainly didn't gain weight there and there were plenty of healthy babies born." I'll never forget it. I went home and cried. This is also the man who told me that the "correct" way to lose weight would be to cut my diet by 100 calories a day. That would give me a weight loss of 1 pound a month and I would have a better chance of keeping it off if I lost slowly like that. I would have been "dieting" for 10 years to get close to my goal. The kicker, I hear 10 years ago, he was a fatty too!
  17. Congratulations on your terrific weight loss! Sounds like HE is the one who is insecure, and he's lashing out, big time! He told you for years that he was embarrassed to be seen with you?? That is NOT how a loving spouse acts! And now he's telling you what to wear and what not to wear? That is very controlling - not a good sign. And he's blaming YOU for HIS weight gain?? Tell him he can cook for himself from now on, or at the very least he can serve his own plate. Do NOT take his sh*&!! Please start going to counseling imMEdiately. My guess is he will refuse to go, but please don't let that stop you.

I just love this group. I come here for support, to put things in the right perspective, and to get a quick kick if I stray. I think I'm starting to turn a corner. I asked DH to rid the house of the Cookies and candy. He could hide them, heave them, or eat them I didn't care as long as I didn't see them. I also went straight home and put a new hormone patch on. I read that lack of estrogen could cause carb and candy cravings. Not taking any chances. Last night I did something I haven't done in 8 months. I had a 100 calorie bag of popcorn. WOW, it went down easy, and satisfied my snacking urge. I felt better eating that then all of the crap of late. I don't want to eat a bag everyday, but feel now that once in a while in might be alright. I really want to get a fill, but I will wait a few more weeks. I hope the Doctor is at the support meeting tonight so I can ask about fills and my problems with them. I might just have to make an appointment with him and see if he can help me get the proper restriction. I weighed this morning and had dropped the 1 lb I picked up from PinkyLee's loss. I have 4 more to get back even from where I was a couple of weeks ago. I changed my ticker to reflect the weight gain so I could keep myself honest. And above all else, I am grateful for what I've lost so far. For me it has come slow, but it has come. As others have said, we are in this together.

Hi all! Thanks to all that posted with their kind works of love and support! Thats why I have stayed here in this June Crew through all my personal and Lapband Challenges. You all have become like a second family to me that I can turn to for love and support. My husband and I are working thing out as best as we can one day at a time. My son is doing better and doing BM's reguarly now ! Its only been a few weeks on the new Bipolar medication so its to early to see if this new medication is working. The side effects suck , but sometimes you have to way them out in order to see the good effect it has on you. As for my weight, Iam fighting my cravings each day. One of the side effects of both Bipolar medication is weight gain in some form. Depakote the medication I was just taken off of did make me gain weight. This new medication, as I mentioned its is to soon to see the full side effects yet. Iam really happy for all of the rest of you that are getting closer to your one year goals--- Regina - Congratulations on hitting the 100! I just went over the recent post. Also glad to see your on the mend and home now. Well, Iam hangin in there, again thanks for all your love and support! Lisa

Carol I think when we are really tight it is sometimes indication of swelling, thus your weight gain. Barbara12 said it best "the weight has to go. I'm simply not eating enough not to lose". Claim the lowest number on the scale. Tell yourself that the bigger numbers that come back are temporary water weight because they are. Your nsv's may need to come from having a healthy day or a looser waistband.

Share ideas, What did you eat today ?

ok guys, I need help! I am holding steady at the same weight. I was banded 7 weeks ago. I am mostly eating the right things and now walking 2 miles a day 4-5 days a week and going hiking on saturdays for at least 2 miles, sometimes more. I write down everything I eat and I'm going back over the last couple weeks. It seems I get on average of about 1000-1200 cal a day give or take (if I stay away from peanut m&ms!). I eat about 200 cal every couple of hours for about 5 mini-to-avg meals a day. My main focus is to get enough Protein because my biggest fear is my hair falling out. I do take a couple of meds that are on my doctor's list to cause weight gain so wondering if this is an issue also... Yesterday - this is mostly an average day (except when i cave on the chocolate) Breakfast: 4oz light cottage cheese, special k Protein Bar (260 cal) snack: apple (72 cal) lunch: progresso light soup, sugar free pudding (180 cal) snack: greek yogurt, banana (265 cal) dinner: jack in the box grilled chicken strips (4 strips) (250 cal) TOTAL: 1112 calories for the day (also walked for 35 minutes - almost 2 miles) I've had 1 fill but now have little restriction and just keep my meals small. Am I eating too much? What is the average calories per day you guys are eating? give me some ideas of meals you eat? PLEASE HELP! I still think about eating too much. I am scheduled for a 2nd fill next week.

    Why are YOU Fat?

I too have mental ilness, which runs in my family. I have been diagnosed with schizophrenia, clinical depression, and I suffer from pannic attacks and fear. I have been thin for most of my life, due to severe depression and fear. I couldn't eat for days. Nothing, not even a bite. I would sometimes force myself to swallow a couple of bites every few days. Then, came the symptoms of schizophrenia a few years ago, and i had to be placed on an anti-psycotic, which made me gain alot of weight real fast. They had to switch my meds and now I'm on one that doesn't cause weight gain, butI can't shed the pounds. But, I must admit that now that I feel good, I do eat quite a bit. I enjoy going out to dinner at buffets and such. I also eat late when the kids are in bed because its more peaceful and I can enjoy it.

    Why are YOU Fat?

I am fat because I had two miscarriages and never lost the weight. Gained even more with depression after that. Total weight gain 100lbs in three years. Now I am stable on meds and loosing rapidly.

    Why are YOU Fat?

Alicesandra, Weight gain is unwelcomed no matter how it arrives. I'm empathize with the pain of being overweight. After reading your post, I'm prompted to respond because from everything I know about the function of the band as a tool, it doesn't sound like it is the correct solution for you. The band works best to help those of us who tend to consume too much food to refrain from doing so. If you aren't consuming enough food, what are your expectations from band surgery? Congratulations on the weight loss!

    Why are YOU Fat?

I really like this topic! But then again I never really thought about "why" I was fat! I was always a chubby kid, chubby teen (I was the "fat" cheerleader). But really it all started to get out of control when I got pregnant with my daughter at the age 18. I was in my first year of community college, finally getting fit down to 135. Then found out I was pregnant and the cravings were crazy, I lived at taco bell! (could be why my daughter LOVES tacos). Anyways, I gained about 50 lbs (I was now at 185-190) with my daughter! Crazy, I know! But I was even on birth control when I got pregnant with her! After my daughter was born I had gone on the birth control SHOT! Well...I knew I would gain weight but did not expect another 30-40 lb weight gain. Now with a new baby, I was also working crazy hours and not much time for work outs. Followed Weight Watchers off and on..lose 20 lbs, hit a block, get frustrated and give up....try again...and the same thing. 5 years later I was told to come off the Birth control shot and try the patch because it could cause infertility if used for long periods of time. Yeah I tried the patch and GUESS WHAT!!!! I got pregnant with my son. LOL...I was fertile mertyle. My son is now soon to be 6 years and I am married and comfortable with my life, and just kept gaining weight! I have a desk job now and eat out alot. I am also idagnosed with Depression. My whole family (the women on my mother's side) are ALL over weight. My father is over weight and a few members of his family! My father also had a major inpact on the emotional issues I have with myself that I was never good enough. But that is a WHOLE other topic...but is also part of why I am Fat!!! I am just glad that with all the medical problems that run in my family on both sides (heart attacks (at young ages 40-50's), strokes my father had 3 stroke before the age of 40, My aunt had a stroke in her early 30's....high blood pressure, depression, anxiety, cholestrol problems, blood clots, asthma, and so much more...) I am just glad I decided to take care of the problem before it got so much more out of control. Take care,
