  1. Sleeve a week ago Thursday 1/8/15. I see food and want to eat it but don't . I get full easy about 3-4 OZ of Protein shake or cottage cheese or Greek plain yogurt ... Problem is i don't think im losing nor do I get gas pain whih is a relief . I can't drink too much after eating because I'm still full and I feel like all I do is eat... Can someone please advise me as to how often and how much I should eat ?!? Ps- since I havnt not had solids I have not had a bowl movement ... Has anyone else experienced lack of bowel movements ?!

    Mushy food, ethnic style

Gefilte fish . . . wish I'd thought of that two weeks ago! Thanks for the suggestions, Nancy. How about chopped liver? Live2Canoe, hang in there. The mushies are an absolute thrill compared to the liquid diet. And be sure to write if you discover any good mushy food. By the way, Trader Joe's is a great place to buy ready-made mushy stuff for those who don't like to cook.

    one week post-op

I had the surgery on 5/4 with Dr. Kurian at NYU. 5 women and 2 men had it also on that day. We all had a meeting the following morning with a nurse to go over all the rules. Everything went wonderfully. I have been feeling really well. I've never been in pain and at most I've been sore. Can't believe the hunger is gone and I'm eating so little. I also can't believe that my stomach is so big. I tried to put on the skirt I wore to the hospital and it just went over my hips. It's getting better but I still look like I swallowed a watermelon. Going to the Dr. Friday for a follow-up. I'm so happy to be on the other side of the operation.
  4. Hi All! So, I have stalled for the past 10 days. I take in anywhere from 400-500 calories per day (50-65 g protein), currently have a boot on my foot and am limited with workouts but even with boot walk 4000-5000 steps. Fluids--minimum 50 oz, maximum 70 oz. Cardio was good lat week but not this week. Thinking this may be my issue but also am trying to be more consistent with fluids closer to 70 oz. Should I increase the cardio? fluids? both? decrease calories? If so, how do you not get lightheaded? Just feeling a little stuck. Happy with my 70 lbs down (42 since surgery 12/12) just wanted to hit 100 lbs by Easter. Must get this ball rolling again. What have you all done? Thanks!

    Let the compliments begin!!

Congrats! It's so awesome that you have that kind of support. I havent told anyone at work what I'm doing, not even my boss. I have 6 days of vacation and I told him I was having surgery and would need to be out for a week. He asked if everything was okay and I said yes and that was it. Hoping I'll have that kind of weight loss initially, too. But if not, just hoping for support!! So happy for you!!
  6. It is amazing what two weeks off of a job will do for a person. As well as losing 20lbs. I was banded on Nov. 5th. I took 2 weeks only because I had the days available and I didn't really know how much time I would need. Anyway today was my first day back to work since I had my surgery. (I am a teacher in a high school. ) It is amazing all the compliments I've gotten so far. I told several friends in the faculty about my surgery, but I only told my students I had to be gone for some surgery. I had also gotten my haircut. Everybody just says what a different person I am. They say I look happier and younger. Even students are commenting on my hair etc. I'm sure in their heads they're wondering what was really going on. It is also good to know that I was missed. Especially when you teach in a tough school with kids that are not always the most respectful bunch. I've been told by several kids that they were glad I'm back and they felt lost when I was gone. So far everything has been really postitive. I have gotten a few eye rolls from some people that think I took the easy way out, but for the most part everybody has been really supportive of me. I just try to stay away fromt he negative people. So I thought it would be fun to tell about any comments/compliments you may have gotten from other people.
  7. I had my gallbladder removed about 10 months before getting sleeved. I gained about 38 lbs in those months and the weight gain didn’t seem to be slowing down so WLS was a must at this point. Comparing the two, I feel like I had less pain with the WLS. I actually asked my mom if she was sure they even did anything! 1. I didn’t need any painkillers after WLS, but I took them for about a week after gallbladder removal. 2. I’m typically a stomach sleeper and was also able to go back to sleeping on my stomach faster after the sleeve. 3. i only needed to sleep on a recliner for 2 days after WLS, but slept in a recliner for about 10 days after gallbladder removal. 4. Moving around was also easier for me after the sleeve, mainly because I felt like I couldn’t stand up straight after the gallbladder removal. 5. I was sleepier after the sleeve and generally had less energy the first week. 6. I had a bowel movement faster after WLS and going to the bathroom was easier in general. 7. TMI but I had sex sooner after WLS than I did after gallbladder removal. 8. Oh, my surgeon used my main gallbladder removal incision (the top one) so I only had 2 new tiny incisions for a total of 3 incisions for WLS. He felt like it was unnecessary for me to have more scars than I should so maybe that’s an individual thing that differs from surgeon to surgeon so I’d ask if that was possible. I only have the 3 WLS incisions visible and the gallbladder ones were so tiny they disappeared (you can only see them if you know where to look). So all in all I’d say my recovery from the sleeve was easier than the gallbladder removal, but of course that’s just me. I’m sure other people have it the other way around. Either way, you can do it! For me, the hardest step was actually deciding and committing to the WLS. Don’t worry, you got this!! Please feel free to message me if you feel like you have more questions or if I missed anything.

    Too Good To Be True?

Restriction is an elusive thing in my experience also. But I'm also a new bandster with one fill in my VG band. What I have experienced is the night craving munchie monsters have gone into hiding. I eat somewhat smaller portions also during the day. So, for now I'm waiting on my next fill in a week and trying to work my tool! Terry

    depressed!!!!

help!!!! I had my band on 4/9/2009 and as of todays date I have only lost a total of 26 pounds. I go for my 3rd fill next week and I am starting to get depresses because I thought I would have lost more weight by now. I walk and I use my Gazelle for exercise but the weight isnt going anywhere can someone suggest something I can try different or is this the norm for weight loss?

    Day 3 of liquid Diet

I remember the feeling. I had 2 weeks pre op liquids then another 2 weeks post op on liquids, so 4 weeks all up. It was pretty tough especially towards the end, but looking back now its been definitely worth it. I chewed on ice post op to have the sensation of using my teeth, by the time it hit the band, its melted to Water, so it didn't risk undoing any of the surgeons handy work.

    Day 3 of liquid Diet

I start my 2-week pre-op diet Jan. 15th and it consists of 3 protein shakes a day, period. Not looking forward to it, I must say. I'm sure I'll be posting my own rant... But we'll make it through!

    48 pounds to go!

you are doing so fantastic. I'm completely stuck at the present weight. I had to go for an unfil so I don't have restriction. I'm losing like a snail. But I'm losing. I go back for a fill in a little over a week so maybe i'll finally get back to real losing. I'm so proud of you. Especially with all the traveling and family stuff. keep it up girl!!!! big hugs! Jodi

Lose about 15 lbs by Jan 26th?? I never lost that fast. A huge week for me is 3 lbs, 2 lbs is more normal. And I had more to lose it looks like than you did. Maybe Im not understanding you about which month you want to get to 185 by.

    When to exercise

Hi everyone- I'm new to the group and have my surgery scheduled for 8/19- I would like to know when those of you who exercise regulary started after surgery? I know you need to recover, but I'm used to doing interval training with nautilus 2-3 times a week. I don't want to totally get out of that mode if I don't have to... but I think the weights might be a problem. Any advice?

    When to exercise

I was told not to exercise until the 6 weeks post op..for 2 reasons, 1. to make sure Iam healed and that band has anchored in and my port incision has a chance to build up scar tissue to avoid a flip 2. To make sure I was on solids and have enough calories to work out. They did not want me working out while on liquids. You have the rest of your life to exercise, get healed first.

    When to exercise

Thanks, that was quick. Six weeks must be the magic number- it was the same after my C-section. Are you as nervous and excited as I am?
  22. Hi all. I have not been on here for some months. Personal issues that I will not go into here, but I had my sleeve on 11/29/10. So far I am very happy with the way I feel. I was taking Lasix to get rid of excess fluid pre-surgery, but my dr. did not want me to continue it post surgery. I was alarmed at first, because, of course I started retaining fluid and actually put on 5 lbs, from surgery day through 5 days post op. He was right in his decision, because I would have been dehydrated had I taken it. With that said, after I lost that 5 lbs of fluid plus an additonal 10 lbs during week 2, there has been no further change in weight. On monday I will be 3 weeks post op. I have been getting in 64+ ounces of fluids, getting in all my required 60 grams of protein, walking 1+mile on the treadmill for a week now with no further change. Am I doing something wrong, or is this normal?
  23. glad to hear im not the only one. I was sleeved dec 3rd and today is my 2 week mark. After the first week i lost 9.6 lbs today when i weighed in i only lost 2.6lbs =( i was really disapointed with myself but i guess our bodys are still adjusting to the huge change. Hopefully next week will be better for us all.
  24. I am just over 4 weeks post-op and I lost 15lbs the first week and then barely nothing for the next two weeks and finally the scale is moving again! I have to ask, How are you getting in 64oz of Water and 60g of Protein? I still can't intake that much. I do get my protein in with a shake but between food and water I still can't get in 64oz of water!!!

    Frustrated

So three weeks post op and I have noticed I have no patients for anything. I wish I understood why I am so annoyed all the time. Did anyone else deal with this through the first month.
