I am on soft foods and really have no appetite . Still having problems getting In enough fluids. My main problem is that I am very tired. Does anyone else have the fatigue problem this time out. I am getting in about 55 to 60 grams of protein Thanks
  2. Was looking to see if their is a list anywhere of who is band to bypass and how long its been since they had the revision

My surgery is December 10 in Provo, Utah. I'm having a revision from LapBand (2007). I've been on the liquid diet for 1 week, so I'm halfway there. Haven't cheated and hope to be able to say that next Sunday night. I'm probably the oldest one having surgery this month (63) and maybe the oldest on the site. Yikes! I guess it's never too late. Good luck to everyone having surgery this week. So anxious to see you on the other side!

I had a revision done on November 14 from the sleeve to the loop DS. I haven’t really lost anything. How much have you lost? Starting to get concerned

    February 2007 bandsters!

Hi all, Just to let you all know that I just had a revision surgery (9th Novemer) because my tube blew off of my port in May. No one managed to work out what was wrong with me, even though I was on Morphine in Hospital for 3 days, had x-rays, ultra sounds and all kinds of investigations (thats the NHS i guess!) and have suffered serious pain for 6 months. I had posted on here a few times talking about pain and trying to get advice, but no one seemed to know what I was going on about. I went back to Brugge, Belgium for a fluro fill and well The tubing was hanging loose inside my pelvic cavity and the metal pin that comes off of the port was stabbing me daily for 6 months. That was why I was in pain. Apparently there was a batch of faulty bands with faulty connections. If I had not stumbled across another person with exact same symptoms as myself I would still be in pain now. These bands are 10ml bands made by Helioscopie. Its called the Heliogast band. These bands went all around the world, but mine was fitted in Belgium by dr. Dillemans who was great at sorting the problem out and I didnt have to pay anything further. I am warning others because I was going out of my mind thinking I was goign mad, getting depressed with not losing weight etc. They started using a different connection with this band in March (lucky me!!) so anyone who is not losing weight, has bad pain in the port/pelvic area or anything else, get in touch with your surgeon. I have obviously lost way less than any of you guys, and thank goodness I now have a reason. I seriously thought it was my fault and that I was a greedy pig and deserved the pain and frustration for some reason - i.e. daring to be thin. So now I am back on track and although I love reading about you guys (well I kind of hated it too because I was not losing, but you know what I mean!) I am goign to join the november 2007 bandsters link as I will be starting my loss again really. all the very best to you all, but if you hear of anyone suffereing like I did, then PLEASE put them out of their misery. Fanny - I hope your surgery goes well today. I had to have port revision surgery a couple months ago - the recovery wasn't too bad. I hope the kinked tubing runs about the same lines. You'll be up and about before you know it! Let us know how you are - when you are up to it one of us I'm sure will light a fire under you. Lyn/Kathy - good luck with the interviews! I'm crossing my fingers and praying for you both. Renewed - I'm going to check out Salsa's blog. I have Nike Shoes but I have no idea what ya'll are talking about with the tracker. Mike looked at them and it (he's a techy - I understand it but am not into things - I think I would be if I could afford them). I do want a Bodybugg really bad though...hoping I'll get one for Christmas. I haven't been very suttle about my hints. I haven't seen or heard from Bonnie either. I hope she is okay. Georgia - we are going to rock that 5K! Jeannie and I did Zumba last night at the Y. It kicked my butt! Really bad! It was fun though...my body doesn't quite move like that, but I'm learning.

    May 2007 Banders

Hi everyone, Mini here. Can't wait to read the posts. I see some of you have been doing great and some are having problems. I can relate to the problems. I had to go and have my fills all removed. Had a huge problem with acid reflux since around last march. Then over the past weekend while on vacation...lost 4 pds..couldn't eat anything..nothing would go down..pb's 3 to 4 times per day...even on fluid. Went to doc on tues and he sent me for xrays..yup, nothing would get through band while they were watching on the xray machine. He withdrew all fluid and I go back Nov 12 for a fill under floroscopy. He said that I may have to have the band removed. He is willing to try and give me a few more fills but at the first sign of trouble he is done with fills and will remove it. The ins won't cover a revision because I am at 29 BMI. He said if I regain the weight..then maybe I can get a revison. I don't want to regain the weight...but am very depressed, because, I am already starting to overeat and it's only thursday. I see my self looking like my old self by Jan. Sorry to be a downer.

The Dr office just called and is rescheduling my revision. My Dr has a sick baby. We go to church with Dylan's doctor and I talked to him about Dylan's burn yesterday. He said that we are doing the right stuff and that it will heal. Burns just take a long time. I knew this, but the reassurance was, well, reassuring. The worst spot on the burn is starting to get smaller. It really looks better in the past 24 hours. Welcome Carol! I love your excitemen and enthusiasm! YOu will do great on your run!! Welcome back Mamato!! So good to hear from you. Good luck on your run today!!! I have missed you! Ok, as for me, I am going to weigh at the Dr office today to see what my muscle/fat ratio is and how I've done since my fill. I am hoping for a good weight loss. It's been awhile since I have lost weight. I don't know what to do about my running. Like usual, I ran and ran and ran until I can't stand the thought of getting on the treadmill to run. Why do I push myself to that point everytime!! I have got to do this running thing in moderation. I ran like 50 miles in 2 weeks, and then just quit. I can't keep up that pace and burn out. Oh, I need some balance. GRRRR.

    May 2007 Banders

Ok guys.....here I am once again! I went to a new band/weightloss doctor yesterday. The burping constantly was so embarrassing and irritating. Then a new symptom. I work nights so in the morning about 6 am I would hve coffee and a cookie or half a bagel. By 9:00bed....well I was throwing up in my sleep. Terrible. I went to the new doc...had a upper GI and my band had slipped over my stomach and was squeezing my esophagus. Insted of having a pouch in the stomach I have on in my esophagus. The esophagus should be as thick as a finger, but mine is so distended the the size of my arm. So the only revision I can have is gastric bypass. I never wanted that...that's why I chose the band . So I am terrified...they got remove the band and try to fix my esophagus. Uuuggg....doctor says 4 to 5 days in the hospital. With 4 kids and a demanding job that I just started 3 months I am sooooo scared!

    African American Sleevers

I was told from my doctor that revision sleevers lose slower but not less than virgin sleevers...trust me I understand I didn't even tell anyone because I was so afraid I wouldn't lose any weight...

    African American Sleevers

I haven't been hungry since the 1st week of my official 2 week preop diet (I had to diet longer because my BMI was so high). Postop, my stomach has never growled or signaled physical hunger. And you here people mention head hunger and honestly I'm not sure exactly what that hunger is or what that means. I just get a feeling when I need to eat if I get busy and go too long without eating something. Im 8 months post, and nothing's changed in that aspect since I got my sleeve. I know when I'm starting to get full because I start to salivate more. I have way more oral secretions now and I have to spit it out because I don't want to swallow it and fill my tiny tummy with it. I hate it- not lady like There are so many changes postop that I'm sure your scenario will be different and you will figure it out as you get to know your sleeve. Thanks so much I know this week I went back to work and started Zumba again so burning a lot of calories...the feeling wasn't strong like preop but my stomach was growling or maybe since its still so new I took it for growling. Just a lot of fear as I revised from the band that was unsuccessful so nervous about this journey. Thanks for your input.

    African American Sleevers

@@MisforMimi, it is best to get negative and positive feedback. The feedback wither it comes from "black" or "white" people should all be taken into consideration. Stay open minded and remember anything that is not natural to your body will have some sort of consequence. I have had a lap band revised to the gastric sleeve just over a week ago. I can attest to both sides of the coin. In the end it's really what you make it and your mind frame. Hope this helps

    African American Sleevers

I was a band to sleeve revision on 4/22. I have only lost 15 lbs including the 5 preop. Starting weight 245 size 18w....on pain meds for approx 1 week. I've been stalled for 2 weeks which is depressing and sending me into bad habits. I know a lot of people stall but Lawd have mercy, I "ain't got time for that"! I starting to think my Dr removed the band and forgot the sleeve...

    African American Sleevers

Today I had my Lapband removed after 3 years. I lost 135 lbs in 1 year and 1/2. At the end of 2012 I had to have fluid removed to have my thyroid removed. We started to refill it again in about 3 months. I would continually be back and forth in dr's office for removal of fluid. In a couple of months we would fill again. We did that for a whole year. Finally, I asked about revision. So today was first step. I actually feel pretty good. I haven't had to take any meds since I have been home. In eight weeks I will have the sleeve done. Oh, I forgot to say I gained about 50 lbs. I am so excited to join the sleeve club.
  17. I just had my band removed yesterday. OMG I feel so much better. Like I know it's not there anymore. I elected to have the band removed because of the awful reflux, night time coughing and throwing up. I was also diagnosed with gastricparises (spelling??). I decided that I did not want any problems down the road with a revision. My insurance covered 100%. My doctors office said it is easier to get the removal covered than a revision. I was trying to revise to the Gastric Sleeve, but my insurance said no. I am up and walking around, no pain. good luck in everyones journey. When the band is working correctly it works. Happy Turkey day to all.

    Hair Loss

Kat817, I have a very very similar story. It was nice to read a familiar tale. When my hair grew back after chemo, at least I knew what was happening. Nobody mentioned the possibility with the band. Thats what made me so angry. Not to mention that there still is no definitive professional explanation for it. Like you, I did EVERYTHING I was supposed to do. I took every suppliment known to man. I drank the disgusting tea, I rubbed on the lotions and potions, etc! Made me crazy! I am having revision surgery next week and will just expect it to fall out again. Oh well. Maybe its time for a change. Warmly, Christine:)
  19. Hi, I am a lap band patient fixing to have revision surgery and go with the sleeve. One question I have is, after all the healing is over, can we have wine? Thanks in advance....

@@shannon cruz acid reflux bad- take the band out and do the sleeve. i love, love, love my sleeve don't wanna burst your bubble but i was told that already having heartburn/acid reflux - this problem will usually continue or get worse just being honest from what i've heard someone on the board started off with the lapband - revision to sleeve - finally gastric RN y finally her heartburn is gone maybe your situation is different, if doc thinks sleeve is the way to go, great i would double check about the heartburn situation - since yours is so bad whatever your choice on which WLS - will be right for you good luck kathy
  21. Chrissy, I accepted your friend request at verticalsleevetalk. Start reading over there and you'll find lots of good information. Put the word "revision" into the search box and you'll find banders that had to be revised to sleeve because of malfunction etc. I think it's good information to have when making your decision.

    Kaiser Richmond Pre-op

Oh and my scars are tiny, you can only see 3 of them (1 totally disappeared, and ! is up so high it's between my breasts and under my bra all the time) and they are just little pink things . . . the only one you notice is the port scar, which is about 1" - so what? I am cheap I just used Vitamin E and Tea Tree Oil 50/50 and I only used it for a couple of weeks. Actually the port sticking out so far bothers me a whole lot more than the little tiny scar does, I swear that port needs its own zip code! Of course I complained about it to Dr. Baggs - I told him it was waving to people in the waiting room - and he said that my surgeon likes it that way (!) and then agreed with my son that I complained too much (!!). When I am done losing I can always have it revised to a low-profile port I guess . . . maybe I will get another infection and have to have it replaced! I may also have the skin apron in front cut off, I have always assumed I would need that but actually it is going away much better than I thought it would. If my cars were 10x larger and bright red and would never get better, I would still have the surgery again in a heartbeat!!! It is SO COOL . . . .
  23. Becca, yes you deffinetly need to do your research. I am 26 (just as young as you and I have little ones so i know what worries you have) and had the sleeve/ To be perfectly honest it was the best thing that I have ever done beside having my two babies. The hard facts of the sleeve are #1 there is NO malabsorbtion. In other words, if you require more Iron, food, nutrition, you can get it in if need be with out the worries that your body is not absorbing it. #2, you can get pregnant and carry a healthy baby to term with the sleeve, again because there is not malabsorbtion. My Dr. specifically discussed this with me. I am considering more children in the future. and She told me there are several ways to make sure I am getting enough calories in, for example, 6 meals a day or 1 extra Protein shake. #3 Gerlin - SOME people do experience hunger pains early out, most of which may have acid reflux issues and MISTAKE them for hunger and just need a new or different PPI. However, with most people the hormone doesn't come back until 1-2 years back and is not as bad as having your full stomach present, besides, the simple fact is your stomach at that point can only hold 2-3 oz or 1 cup of food. #4 leaks- they are a direct result of the surgery itself not a long term complication. In other words, those who form an absess at 6-8 weeks post opt. had the leak from the first day out and it was just to small to notice therefore they got an absess. Those things can be fixed. At my 6 week apt. my Dr. explained to me that I am not at risk of a leak or one developing because of that simple fact. Also most of the people that I have found in MY research that have developed leaks are those who had either issues with their band (doing a revision) or stomach (ulcers and what not) prior to their sleeve surgery. #5 history - People say the VSG is new. It is not. It has simply been the same procedure for years that was used for the DS and for those people who have had stomach cancer and or ulcer issues. The procedure itself has changed slightly over the years depending upon the surgeon. In my opinion if you are doing research, do what i did and check out several message boards of those people who have had stomach cancer and sever ulcers and have had part or all of their stomachs removed. I had found people who have had no stomach (one formed out of intestines) who have lived 30+ years and are still thriving. #6 Complications - Since there is NO dumping, No Malabsorption, the only major complication is Acid Reflux. i personally take a PP 2x a day and will continue to do so for life. There is no side effect to this besides the occasional burping episodes that may occur. Do i think that the sleeve is a marical cure? NO. Do I belive that it is a tool that can be used right? YES. But I am also fully aware that it can be abused just like the band can. Also keep in mind, you may be able to remove the band if need be later in life but not the sleeve, but your stomach will still be altered as they will not be able to remove the stitching that they do to keep the band in place. So some might also reason that the band is a permanent alteration of your body. Ultimately this is YOUR decision. My main advise would be just like anyone else, Research and discusses it with your Dr., after all they are thoroughly educated on this subject and there is a reason that they will recommend you to go one way or the other.
  24. Just checking in - been busy baking - made 170 Swedish Heirloom cookies - 72 are for a cookie exchange I am going to tomorrow and the rest are for my parents and us for Christmas. I only ate one. I also got all the presents wrapped and four loads of laundry done. My back is killing me. My kids are at my mom and dad's house. I put Benefiber in at least two of my waters each day - I use the unflavored one and it works well as long as I get my water in. Yep, Metamucil is not allowed after banding and too much MOM can harm your system - it tastes so nasty it would have to be a medical emergency before I would drink it again. yuck. I'm guessing Kaiser won't do any revisions unless you have a problem with your band? I definitely have more restriction when I get nervous or anxious - I had lunch with my daughter's teacher yesterday at school and I could only eat 2 tempura shrimp - was too afraid I would get stuck and he doesn't know I am banded so pbing would not have been cool.
  25. J ~ I miss Dr. Baggs SO MUCH!! I don't have KP anymore because I work for Blue Shield. I actually CALLED him a few months ago asking if he would revise me and how much out of pocket a month it would be LOL! He told me it would be so expensive as well as 2 surgeries. He told me the surgeon I have right now is an excellent Dr., so that made me feel ablittle better! HI REGGIE!!!! How scary about your band!!! Mine is still in there, perfectly hanging on from what we can tell, but it's just not doing it's job as it should. I tried to get a fill once after I changed insurances in 2020, and I literally made it to the car and was throwing up my spit, she had to take the fill out. I have another friend trying that med as well, but like you is dealing with the shortage.
