Full with band vs full with sleeve.
Bndtoslv replied to Bndtoslv's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Me too! I'm down about 17lbs from my 2 day clear liquid diet. I can't help but worrying though since it has been so easy compared to the band. I keep wondering if I'll have adequate restriction as a revision patient. What does restriction feel like to you? I feel restriction finally...with sleeve. I never did with the band. This was the best decision ever! You may be worried because this feeling is all new...the band never did the job...like sleeve. You will have true restriction when u move to real foods...believe me! I can eat a couple ounces at a time...then I'm full abd I'm never hungry between my meals! That's helpful. Right now I can eat 3-4 oz of puréed and feel satisfied and full for long periods of time. In fact I don't really ever feel hungry I'm just wondering what the actual restriction feels like! Like what if I ate 5 ozs?! Guessing I don't want to find out but with the band we know what would happen -

For anyone considering lapband.

That was my thoughts too, I removed it when I had a chance even though it had served me well for the most part. Revising to the sleeve did not work for me though and I gained a lot of weight with it. I'm now almost 3 months post MGB and down about 30 lbs, only 15 more to go ! -
Sleeve revision to gastric bypass tomorrow
chasingpolaris321 replied to nailsbyniki's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Also, a quick follow up that complicates things a bit, I currently work oversees so I'm trying to make this decision remotely since there's only an 8 week period of time I'll be back in the States in late November that I'd have to have the revision done in. It would also be with a different surgeon. Just trying to provide context for why this is so daunting. Thanks again everyone. -

Sleeve revision to gastric bypass tomorrow
chasingpolaris321 replied to nailsbyniki's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi everyone, I'm glad I found this thread. I'm 11 months out from the sleeve, and have overall had a good experience. I have been having some chest pain and burning in my esophagus, but nothing really extreme (no vomiting, choking etc.). I had an endoscopy yesterday just to see what is going on, and they told me that I have severe reflux that had eroded some of my esophagus, and that I also have developed Barrett's Esophagus. Obviously this is very alarming to me because I had very little to no reflux before the sleeve, and all the sudden in 11 months I have a precancerous condition. I also have some mystery polyps that they are biopsying. My doctor has told me that I should think about sleeve revision to bypass, and I am just having a hard time wrapping my head around the whole thing. On the one hand, I don't feel like my quality of life has decreased from these issues, but on the other hand I am terrified of getting Esophageal cancer and feel like developing Barrett's this quickly isn't a great sign (as an FYI I am 26, so that's a lot of years left for acid to make things worse). I guess I'm just looking for input on what you would do in my situation. It's hard to find people who get this kind of choice. Thanks in advance, and I admire everyone on this thread for persevering through these complications. -
Barrett's Esophagus and GERD After Surgery
chasingpolaris321 replied to chasingpolaris321's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Just as a brief update (in case this is relevant to anyone), my surgeon is urging me to consider a revision to gastric bypass. Right now I'm just sort of in a haze and haven't wrapped my mind over what it would be like to go through this whole process again. I have a family friend who is dying of Esophageal cancer at the moment, and it's horrific, so I'm taking my doctor's recommendation pretty seriously. Life's a rollercoaster I tell you! -
Revisions cannot always be done at the same time. It depends how badly the bands damaged your stomach

Dallas, Texas Sleevers! !
samskiles replied to attractiveval's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I will have my band to sleeve revision on Aug 11 with Dr. Carlton at the Nicholson Clinic in Dallas. I live in Frisco. -
My new surgeon personally advocates for bypass because he said it's been shown to be safe for 40 years. The newer ones are ok but not really any long term data on them. As per the recommendation of my old surgeon, I did the lapband and can say for sure that had I known about all the possible complications years into it, I wouldn't have done it. That surgeon ONLY does lapbands, so either he REALLY believes in it or he's getting kickbacks from allergen (the lapband company) for every surgery he performs. Might need to get mine removed, and I will not be getting a revision. Too scared

Thanks for sharing Yeah, your story sounds familiar. I haden't had a fill in 18 months and suddenly heartburn. Got some Fluid out and still not better. I am terrified of surgery to get my band removed but even more terrified of having serious complications. Many people opt to have a revision done at the same time they get their bands removed. Ask your MD because I completely understand the fear. I am 50 lbs down (at one point was 70) and am terrified to see the scale go much higher

Band to Sleeve GRIPE...feeling down and frustrated :(
ladivaluz806 replied to Just Lindsey's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have heard of the sleeve being slightly larger due to scar tissue, but not from my Dr. I plan on asking him when I see him next week. I had a ton of scar tissue but my Dr. said it was on my diaphram. IDK if that makes any diffrence or not. Some days i can eat more than other days. Its just the nature of the beast i suppose. I live low carb and i STOPPED weighing ever single day. That is too much pressure to put on myself. I belive in the sleeve, so I trust what I do when it comes to what I eat. My weightloss has been pretty good considering the revision. Ive lost 35 in 10 weeks, I am not mad at that at all good luck! -
@@autumn23242 I keep having pains in the gallbladder area too and my pcp keeps mentioning that we may have to remove it. I never thought it may make the gastritis worse. I'm so glad I've resisted! So does the pH test just end up telling u what u should eat? I love my sleeve too but if I was told I could have a revision. To escape this pain I would in a heart beat!

Pain from Band to RNY revision
jerri mac replied to LoraLei2's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am 5 weeks out from surgery doing great! I had revision from a lap band to bypass. I am so glad to be free from the band after 9 years! I also have a high tolerance to pain so once I was home I did just fine. I needed no pain meds after week 2 and then I was just taking hydro codone at night. I have lost 30 lbs! Go for it! I was worth it! -
Started my pre-op diet today. My surgery is July 30 and I am a bit (well a lot) nervous. After 2 failed lap band attempts I am concerned about the scar tissue and whether or not the doc will be able to complete the revision to bypass. I am also questioning whether or not I am doing the right thing. I already failed twice, I just don't want to fail again.

Pain from Band to RNY revision

What has been the pain level/recovery from this surgery. I have been seeing some posts that are disheartening. I think I have a high threshold for pain. Any experiences or ideas would be helpful. -
Mixed Feelings/2nd Thoughts
CowgirlJane replied to choosehope's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I went through this too. I spent about a year wrestling with my decision to revise from the lapband (which was an epic fail for me) to the sleeve. (well, actually it was supposed to be to the bypass but I changed to the sleeve). It was a very bad year - I tried and retried ever diet under the sun because I just could not come to grips with either having my "guts rerouted" (bypass) or "my stomach chopped" (sleeve). I was fearful of dying in surgery, of feeling horrible pain afterwords, of looking terrible/sick/unhealthy, of developing a serious complication... of never enjoying life again. Of failing.... again. I actually think that my fear of failing was the biggest obstacle.Emotionally, i just felt I couldn't handle that again. I am now over 3.5 years post surgery and I have a whole different perspective. I luckily had no complications - but truth is most people with very serious complications recover and become strong. I look awesome, if I do say so myself. My health improved so much - my starting BMI was 52 and a lifetime of obesity was taking it's toll! My day to day life is just so much easier. I can run up a hill, I can chase after my dog, I can mount my horse from the ground, I can crawl in and out of the bed of my pickup truck...etc I never saw myself as a social recluse, but now that I am normal sized...OMG... I was missing out on so much in life before and I didn't even know it! Are there downsides, well yes. I am more prone to stomach upsets/issues. I have gone through times of severe constipation and times of loose BMs - although the last year i have been fine. I really really have to work hard to maintain my 150#++ weight loss - dammit - it wasn't a magical cure! I would do it again 100 times if I had to. I am so serious about that - if for some reason I can't maintain my losses with the sleeve, i will revise to the DS. I wish the sleeve had been available to me a long time ago... I just turned 51 and in some ways my life has "restarted" in the last couple of years. I am half my former size. It isn't just how I look, it is more about the burden of lugging the weigh of a normal sized man around on top of my "normal" weight. It is a wonder i could still function when I was so big.. I am so grateful for weight loss surgery now. I know how difficult this is, I know it is hard to judge if you are "ready" but I am an analytical person and in the end it was logic that got me over my fears. No WLS: 100% chance of early death and disability (I was already becoming disabled, so no joke) WLS: x% chance of serious complication or death; xx% chance of less serious complications It was a no brainer for me when I looked at it that way. -
I can also empathize... mine has been awful over the past three weeks since my gallbladder came out. I am on pantoloc twice a day, sulcrafate four times a day and buscopan twice a day. For pain i am on tramacet every 6 hours. Been hospitalized twice now for a total of 5 days. ???? Have a follow up appointment this week to see how next steps for medication and if I stay on what i am or if they want to change it. For the past few days it has at least been bearable. Prior to the pain medication i couldn't cope with the tearing and sudden pains . They would last 20 to 120 minutes and would happen up to 6 times a day ???? Needless to say eating was tough. My surgeon also said a revision to bypass would be the next steps if the gastroscopy shows it is worse and cant be managed by pain. I have been drinking happy life Water with a ph of 7.4 and i think it does help soothe the stomach a bit.... Have you had a gastroscopy and ph test and stuff ? I also try and eat a small amount of food every 2 hours while i am awake. I try and stick to foods with a ph level of 5 and higher if possible... very hard to do and still get Protein... so i definitely rely on the medication. Oh and i also have a couple plain dry almonds and some alkaline water after every meal. And i sleep partially sitting up.... Sorry for rambljng... those are the things that come to mind. I feel i have been obsessed with this since the awful pains started! ????

The things I need to know.....
OKCPirate replied to Baxter1414's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
§ Start getting in better shape. I walked, lifted, and did as much as I could 5 times a week getting ready for surgery. § Started practicing eating slower for lunch. § Watched many videos, talked to people who had been through it. § Oh, but best work was preparing for the mental changes with my therapist and worked through this book: http://www.amazon.co...=bariatric book § I drank a great deal of alcohol so I weaned myself off and slowly cut the caffeine. § Followed the pre-op diet to the letter § Shopped two weeks before surgery for the foods I would need for the first two weeks. § Revised my will and power of attorney just in case something went wrong § Tried pureed meal ideas before surgery so I had some meal plans. -

Worried I don't/Won't have restiction

I am a revision patient in my 7th week. I can eat 4-5 oz of Protein but if I eat it first like we're supposed to, I'm done. I won't be eating the veggies. I try to stick to 3-4 oz of protein and some veggies at each meal so I can get some veggies. I don't think it's nutritionally sound to just eat meat all the time with nothing else. -

Thank you! I guess I just worry because I am a revision patient and this feels so different from the band. With the band I wasn't able to drink well for weeks after surgery. This time I was drinking well within a few days. I know that it doesn't mean I don't have restriction - just you know... -
Worried I don't/Won't have restiction

I am a revision patient. I was sleeved 2 weeks ago. I don't feel hungry, have been measuring my food and have lost a lot in the past 2 weeks. Maybe 16lbs? Anyway I am so worried because I hear of people only being able to get down 1-2 ozs at this point. I can eat 3-4 oz of purees no problem. I haven't felt pain or anything with eating - only a once or twice a twinge or something. Once or twice a bit of nausea from eating. I am on purees and I have eaten baked ricotta, yogurt, egg salad, refried Beans and even soft mashed fish. Is it because I am on purees that I don't feel much more than a lack of desire to eat?
