3 weeks post op and struggling with nausea
Szietsma replied to Szietsma's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yes! I was bumped up to 8mg every 8 hours but it doesn't seem to work well. Gravol is better but makes me so tired which is good for bedtime (I can't sleep) but not during the day. You're absolutely right about dehydration making it worse, so I sip slow all-day. All the doctor kept saying to me is that I need to keep drinking my protein shakes. He wasn't listening when I said that I can't keep it down. I start work this week and am quite worried. -
3 weeks post op and struggling with nausea
Szietsma replied to Szietsma's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thank you both. I was in the hospital twice this weekend and they gave me fluids and Odansatron but went home to the same issues. The on call surgeon just looked at me and said "We do not see anything wrong with your blood work or CT scan". I felt so defeated! I wrote down all my symptoms to talk to my surgeon about, so hopefully I can find answers. At this point, I just want it reversed but they won't even look at that as I'm only three weeks post op. My fear is that this won't go away. I do not want to live months or years with this. -
Hello all, I had RYGB surgery March 25th, 2022 and I'm struggling. I've been in and out of emergency with nausea and some throwing up. I'm weak and dizzy and finding it hard to move forward. I did my research and knew that this is a possibility but dang it's hard. Even water causes stomach issues. I'm barely getting my protein drinks in. Is this common? I'm hoping to get an appointment with my surgeon to talk about this. I just want this reversed. I know it's not possible but I'm miserable.

Weight loss starts when?
Queen ApisM replied to linzcarr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All these post-surgery water weight stories make me so happy my surgeon had me take Lasix while at the hospital to get the fluids out. I have a heart issue and a standing prescription for Lasix as needed (which is very, very rarely). At the time I was a bit annoyed as to why they made me take it in the hospital, since I take it so rarely, but sometimes it's almost like the doctors have reasons for what they do! Looking back I am really happy they made me take it. I hadn't realized before surgery that you can gain all that water weight. It's also not unique to WLS. My brother got his gall bladder out a few months ago, and legitimately gained 20 lbs in water weight as a result. It took a good 4-5 weeks to get it out. Patience is a virtue when dealing with post-surgical water weight... -

I went to the hospital at 309 and came home at like 315. It comes off fast after a couple of days to a week. Don't worry! All part of the journey. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Large Hiatal hernia: Bypass or Sleeve
Mariann812 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi, all: Iโve been in the April 2022 Surgery Board, but I have a question for here. My surgery will likely be in the coming 4-6 weeks. I had planned on the sleeve, but testing shows a very large hiatal herniaโฆmore than half my stomach is in my chest. ๐ณ I do know that is not that uncommon. Anyway, has anyone here had the sleeve procedure at the same time as having a large hernia repaired? Iโd prefer the sleeve because of the shorter surgery duration. But, I want to do what is the best medical decision. I have to articulate a preference to my surgeon before we meet in a week or so. Thanks in advance for any information. -

There will be 4 of us sharing this. โฆconverting those around me into salad-believers, one salad at a time..๐ -

Hi Everyone! I know I'm late to the game here but I had VSG on 3/22. So far things have been fairly easy. I'm on pureed foods right now which is getting boring and I still find it tough to get in all the protein and liquids I'm supposed to but every day is getting better. I finally hit 20lbs down yesterday which feels amazing. I love reading everyone's stories on here, can't wait to see our progress! -
Post Op Stomach Injections
lorlybeth84 replied to mlwoodall's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi! I just finished my 14 days of Lovenox last week, my surgery was 3/22. On the day of my op, the nurse showed me how to do the injections and while the needle was in my skin she would complete the injection and that would make the protective needle cover pop out. This caused a huge bruise. I learned that it hurts much less to give that extra push after pulling the needle out of your skin. I hope I'm making sense but it might be something to try! I also found the lower on my belly I did it, the less it bruised and hurt. Good luck, you'll get through this!! -

I'm 3 1/2 yrs post gastric bypass. Lost more than I ever dreamed I'd lose. I'm maintaining at 105 lbs. I wear a size 2P. I've had 5 surgeries in the last 3 1/2 yrs-gastric bypass, hip replacement and 3 plastic surgeries for skin removal. No complications. I'd do it all again today! Absolutely no regrets! -

Messing up my pre-op diet ๐ฉ
winkydinks replied to Whosthatgirl07's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn't worry about it too much. My doctor said 3 days of clear liquids is all he needs. Maybe others want the liver even smaller, but everything went fine for me doing that. -
Question about hair loss after sleeve
Arabesque replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Started at around month 3 or 4 & persisted for about 3 or 4 months. Just noticed more hair in my hands when shampooing. According to my hair dresser I lost about 40% (I think it was more 30%) but I had heaps to begin. You may lose more or less. Itโs very individual. I cut my long hair to just above my shoulders so it wasnโt as noticeable. The hair the sheds is hair that you were going to lose anyway - your natural hair loss cycle is just accelerated. Your new hair is growing at the same time but at itโs usual rate so isnโt really noticeable for a while - youโll start to see fluffy new growth after a month or so depending on how fast your hair grows. Remember all the hair on your head is actually dead & naturally sheds. The live part is root under your skin. So all the vitamins & supplements may do is strengthen your new growth. Fertiliser wonโt save dead leaves on a plant or stop them falling off but can promote new leaf growth. Some people swear by vitamins & supplements but they still lose hair over that similar 3 or 4 month period. I never had a problem with my teeth. I go to my dentist every 6 months & he gives me a gold star every time (he was my PE teacher at school & we laugh about it as he never gave me a gold star at school ๐๐). My skin didnโt get drier actually the opposite. Always had dry & itchy arms & legs & those little bumps on my arms regardless of how often I exfoliated & moisturised. Donโt exfoliate at all now. My skin is soft but I do moisturise but not as lavishly. My legs have started to get a little itchy again but I think itโs more to do with shaving than anything else. The better diet. More protein & little or no sugar are why. You will look a little drawn & tired while losing but this settles once you are in maintenance & eating a little more. Everything seems to need time to resettle again. -
Hello @carpeedim i had my surgery 03/02/2022 and i felt the same exact way , my anger and irritation was out the roof the first couple weeks i got so mad i kicked a hole in my door arguing with my spouse. Honestly Iโm going to say it gets better to both of you . I have moments where i feel sad and Iโm not sure why but i think i connected it with food . I never knew hose happy food made me until i couldnโt have it or have as much of it . I enrolled in therapy and Iโm learning to cope with my emotions and irritation . But it will get better i promise you guys , Iโm 5 weeks out and i have lost 45 pounds total . So trust me nothing great or deserving comes easy in life ,

You are not alone! I regret my decision to have surgery every day, and it's been five weeks. I have noticed that I'm falling into some kinda of depression. I'm constantly angry or short-tempered with my loved ones; I'm not happy. Also, every little thing irritates me. I feel alone and don't want to be around anyone but even the dog.

Weight loss starts when?
winkydinks replied to linzcarr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Interesting... I've had the complete opposite experience. Had surgery Monday. Weighed 355 in the hospital right before it (and after 3 days of liquid diet). Got out of the hospital on Wednesday. Weighed 348 on Thursday night, and then I weighed 337 this morning. Hope I'm not dehydrated. -
I had my sleeve surgery on April 6 and have two weeks of lovenox to take. I take the shots in my thighs and have had no bruising..

Just reading your comments, I've had to wait 5 years in the public system then covid hit! That added another 2 years on top of the 5! so eventually I gave up! I wasn't even thinking about it anymore and was just over it, till March 24th they called me asking if I would be ready for the surgery in two weeks April 7th ๐ณand I said NO! (That was too much of a short notice,) wasn't ready for that I needed at least a month for preparations lol I was happy to hear that they had a vacancy for the 27th of April lol so I accepted that one, I've done all my blood tests seminars and everything else I was asked to do I'm very low on iron its down to 10 where it should be 45 so im told I will be getting an iron infusion on the 14th otherwise I won't be fit enough to go in to theatre, but none the less I weighed at 109kg back in December and today I weigh at 99kg I'm really trying to lose as much as I can on my own by cutting down on carbs and sugar and resisting my usual Temptations just so I have a quicker recovery I'm on the shakes diet atm I've just done a whole lot of meal preps with lots of low starch vegetables that are on my "allowed to eat list" steamed and chopped chucked it in the deepfreeze! and loads of salad so they will be a companying my Optifast shakes before and after the surgery I realised my downfalls and mistakes were NOT doing meal preps ahead of time as I would just grab whatever was in the fridge when I was feeling peckish, I really want this to work as I've waited so long for this surgery, the only thing thats really stuck on my mind is that we have to take multivitamins for the rest of our lives ๐ณOther than that I'm ready for this journey and a whole new life style that will change my life for the better!๐๐ค

April 2022 Surgery Buddies
Tina 2.0 replied to Crinkles's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
True story: I am very self conscious and have had people make rude comments. I have been walking in my home for a starting time of 5 min and now 15. My dog follows and sometimes I talk to him as I walk just to be silly. It beats the treadmill experience by a long shot. Soon I will add another lil activity like a sugar in the wall or a lil stair step. Next week I am doing my first social walk with some women in a Meet Up group. -
Weight loss starts when?
Toomany#s replied to linzcarr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I gained 8 pounds in the hospital which took a couple of weeks for me to lose again. I was very bloated feeling as well, it all goes away. -
Its odd because during the week I can be quite restrictive of what I eat; yet on the weekends it seems like open field day for me. So essentially I undo my weekly progress by sabotaging it on the weekends

Wow that is quick! Ive been going to my weight management office since Oct 28th, 21 (my first visit). Ive had to do a series of "workshops" and bloodwork before moving into the next phase.....which was cardiac dr to release me for surgery then more bloodwork then off to do the EGD (Feb 9th). My March visit was to be turned into insurance for approval but the office dropped the ball and that didnt happen. So now my April appt I was told it would be sent (again?) for insurance approval with a tentative surgery date sometime in May is what I was told. I'm only going to wait a week or two and ask if its been sent yet because it wasnt done in March . Glad to hear yours was more flawless and quicker. In my program we must show we will not gain weight before we get approved for surgery. I have been able to stay below my start weight on my first visit but Ive not lost much either. So Im constantly a work in progress. Others lose quite a bit up till surgery and others like myself squeak by. I have mobility issues because of my knee issues.
