1 week out, down 9 lbs., Very weak!

In my experience this is typical. I felt good but week for a couple of weeks. I have low blood pressure and heart rate so my body forced me horizontal a lot. I’m 20 days out and just now feeling stronger. Make sure you’re hitting your fluid goal every day and then your protein. I had to work up to my protein a bit. Protein water helped me because I have a hard time drinking shakes. You’re healing from surgery. It takes a lot of energy for your body to do that. I had rapid weight loss in the first 10 days because of it.

My Dr, does a 10 day liver shrieking diet. 7 day full liquid diet no sugar or bubbly drinks. 3 days clear liquid with the same rules and then nothing 12 hours before surgery and lots of fluid. I have chose power aide zero and water with MIO. So you have time. Don't give up. I couldn't even have food for 10 days working on day 7 now and I'm starving but I eat sugar free jello, warm flavored tea, chicken broth, sugar free hard candy, sugar free popsicles ect. Good luck!!

    November 2018 Sleevers!?!?

Hey everyone. New here. My surgery is this Friday Nov.16. I had to do a 10 day liquid diet, no sugar, no carbonation, Then 3 day clear liquids before surgery. I just have to say I didn't realize how addicted to food I was. I have dreamed about food like never before and even to this minute consider cancelling the surgery because I'm so scared of being this hungry after surgery. I use to smoke and one day I decided I would never let anything have control of my life like cigs did. I would be in control at all times. I through them away and never looked back. I guess my eyes where not open to the fact, food had control of my life. So now I just need some support some motivational words to make it through this hurdle and take control. Cigs I never have to look at again but food is a necessity which makes it that much harder. Thanks for being here everyone.
  4. Hello All - I had a RnY performed on 11/05. The first week home I lost 10 pounds - however; the last two days I’ve actually gained about 3 pounds. I’m still on liquids - and am shocked at the gain. Has anyone experienced this? Thanks!

Try bone broth, sf crystal light and some protein water, get in the habit of carrying a drink with you everywhere - because after surgery you can get dehydrated really fast and be in trouble healthwise. You are thirsty and hungry by not eating during the day and unable to cope at night while looking for stress relief besides. Most of us had 10-14 days of 800 cal liquid protein, and NO food, and then clear liquids for 24 hrs before surgery. You have enough time to get in gear, but please stay hydrated. ( don't get mad @FluffyChix - remember the veterans on here have all been right where you are, and truly want to share our experience, encouragement and help - and if you knew her you would know she was being sarcastic and attempting wittiness along with worrying)

    PNW Kaiser

I was working on an appeal and came across the 2017 Kaiser WA Bariatric Surgery program booklet. I don't know if there is an updated book for 2018 (or soon 2019), but I figured it would not hurt to provide the link in case anyone wants to download the PDF. It is: KP Washington 2017 Guide for the Bariatric Surgery Program

BIG NEWS! Several insurers are REMOVING supervised diet requirements

OMG! My new insurance plan starting in Jan 2019 is Anthem Blue Cross Texas. I know bariatric is covered in my policy and there was literally nothing else mentioned for requirements in the EOC aside the surgery needing to be medically necessary and performed at a BDCSC facility. This is awesome news!!! Thanks for sharing!

    Insurance approval

I went to a bariatric specific hospital so my insurance advocate had it on her calendar to request my records from my PCP the day after my last appointment. She submitted it that day and she called me 2 days later with the approval. From there it took 2 buisiness days to get scheduled. My surgery ways 10 days from scheduling. I’m pretty sure my experience is best case senario. I would just make sure to be your own advocate and follow up and make sure records are getting where they need to go.
  10. I think it is also dependent on age....I have dropped about 3-4 sizes in jeans but I am losing much more off my butt, thighs and hips than the stomach area. I know this because I have detailed measurements from 10 years ago when I did Atkins and at the same weight my measurements are several inches different (more in the stomach and less in other places) even though I am exercising much more consistently now. Friends my age (60) who are not overweight also have noted more weight in the "middle" which I think is probably connected to estrogen levels.
  11. Hi all I am only 2weeks out n was just wandering how long did it take u to start losing stomach fat? I never see any one ask that n myself I'm only wanting to know...i know I'm swelled n I only lost 13 pounds since I had the sleeve done 10\26 Sent from my LM-V405 using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. I have arthritis everywhere. The x-rays even cause the technicians to gasp when they look at them the first time! I have been on Voltaren for at least 10 years, the last 3.5 being post op sleeve. I am gleefully down to only one a day that I take with omeprazole. That being said, I never miss a scheduled doctor appointment and we keep an eye on it. Not everyone will develop ulcers, but if it starts I'll have to drop the only arthritis medicine that has given me any relief.

    So Dramatic...

It does, Fluff! Will minimize the appearance and still help flatten if scar is raised. I have been using it for a variety of things over the past 10 years...kinda like everything can be fixed with a little duct tape...that's how I feel about kelo-cote!😂😂😂
  16. Thanks to @FluffyChix, @skinnylife, @proudgrammy, @VSGDavid, @summerset, @wanda247, and @GreenTealael for your input! I'm crying at work from your support, assessing my negative self-talk, and coming back to Earth. Therapy is coming, as is my year follow up, so I know I will have plenty of in-person guidance as well. As far as maintaining a regimen, I will say that I have held fast to breakfasts and lunches that are measured and nutritionally sound. My weak spots as of 10-12 months tend to be snacking in-between meals at a new job where treats are brought in and stare at me too-large portions at dinner I suppose I've gotten over the first hurdle of recognizing what I'm doing that will impede my weight loss. Now I must continue to jump the hurdles of being kinder to myself and maintaining motivation despite the stall.

    Vitamin Patches

Chattycat, I use Spring Valley Prenatal multivitamin/multimineral with folate, I bought a 100 count bottle at Wal-Mart. I think it cost less than $10. So far my levels are super cool. Also take Magnesium for leg cramping, liquid calcium citrate, Sublingual B12, Carafate, Wellbutrin(for mildish depression) and that's pretty much it!
  18. A year ago today around this time I was in the hospital getting prepped for surgery. I was ready for my life to change. The following 9 months were spent meticulously following my plan, learning about my healing body, and being amazed at the progress I was making. Months 10-12 have been different. My hunger is back in full force. I can eat more at a time than I thought, and head hunger has taken control. I'm not losing 1-2 lbs a day, or 1 lb a week, or even 1 lb every two weeks like I had been. My highest weight before surgery was 310, lowest after surgery was 211, and today I weighed in at 214. I am terrified, disappointed, and ready to take control again. I have been active 5 days a week, but I have not counted calories at all. My fear is that if I start to count calories, I will fall into my old patters of guilt, depriving myself, guilt, treating myself, guilt, eating all day, guilt, guilt, guilt. But here I am, three pounds above my lowest post op weight, guilty. Where is the girl in the beginning of the journey who turned down carbs and sweets with absolutely no hesitation? Where is the girl who wanted to do exactly what the doctors suggested for fear of hurting myself, wasting thousands of dollars, and getting unhealthy again? After months of being so regimented I find myself face to face with the girl who got herself into the 310 pound mess she was in to begin with. Not only that, but when I start to get down on myself for losing control, I also get upset that I can't see just how far I've come. My thighs don't hurt when I walk. I don't have asthma attacks. My migraines are non existent. I can sit comfortably in a car and a plane with a regular seat belt. I can walk, run, and exercise for extended periods of time. I feel great, I like the way I look. But...I'm still 40 lbs away from my goal weight and stuck. Have any of you gotten to this point? Has anyone else gained back a few pounds or hit a stall for months and felt useless? What advice could you give me for moving forward and learning to love who I am while still striving to lose weight?
  19. Nearest is Mansfield, 23 miles north, a Sam's club. Otherwise Columbus , 48 miles SW, the state capital where I had my surgery 10 weeks ago tomorrow. Drat it all! For clean air, pretty scenery and a lower crime rate I limited myself a lot, a self-administered screwing perhaps.😧🍶🍝
  20. 5 days Post op Update:

Well today is 5 days. I feel great! I still have some gas i am dealing with but with each sip comes a burp. Hopefully this part will be done with soon. I started my blood thinners shots this morning as they stopped them day after surgery due to too much drainage. I went back to work yesterday, didnt do much! My boss made me sit in her office all day lol.. but i am back and i am feeling good. I was able to get my liquids in yesterday and had my first BM yesterday, with another following this morning! I think i am doing pretty well for just having surgery. My weight is still up. I had gained almost 14 pounds during surgery due to gas and liquids, and lost 10 of it to date. Have 4 pounds to go before back to surgery date weight!

Thanks Fluffy! It was the only one LOL. I talked to my nutritionist yesterday and i asked about smooth move and she said not to take it because its a dehydrator. She suggested something called Swift Kriss OR something like that i will google it today. She said take maybe a quarter of the tablet and break it apart and not take the whole thing just to get things moving if needed, but at this point she said.. not needed. Oh and for that final sentance! I have a 1.4 pounds to go to be back to surgery weight.

  21. So as it said I’m a bit over 4 months. Highest weight was 316. I’m now sitting at 228 as of this morning. I was wearing a size 28/30. Now I’m wearing a size 20 comfortably. Now where I need thoughts and opinions here is. I’m getting hungry more frequently now. I tend to wake up in the morning very hungry. I hate having that feeling. what does everyone else do? Do you wake up nearly starving? Another issue I’m seeing is I’m going nearly in a three week cycle. Where one week I loose almost 7-10 pounds then I sit at that weight for almost a full 3 weeks. Its driving me nuts. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong here. Im eating around 800-1200 calories a day. I don’t do protein drinks very often I tend to get protein from meats. Im eating nuts as a snack. I have started eating tortilla chips but I’m stopping that I think that killed me for a week allowing that carb back in. As a rule I don’t eat pasta, bread, and rice. I have let in too many carbs and sugar I think. I don’t eat sweets but I have been eating apple and peanut butter. I also have a 12 oz coffee with French vanilla creamer every morning. I also realized I forget a lot more than I should no drinking before or after rule Any thoughts, suggestions and opinions are very welcome.
  22. Good Morning Mikeyy, it's only a little after 7AM in the Eastern Time zone of the USA, many seem to be sleeping in. Elcee is Ballarat Victoria, my Friend Taoz is also in Australia. I think either of them could turn you on others "down under" I'll puzzle on this, see if I can think of some more people. Had my own RnY almost 10 weeks ago at 72, not doing perfect with recovery but I am fixable. Wiley Coyote , the cartoon character always talked about his "Great Brain", let's see what mine comes up with. I live in a small city of 20,000 called Mount Vernon, 48. miles from Columbus, maybe 80 km ? where I had my surgery, Ohio born, Ohio bred, my family has been here since Indian Days. Quick joke: Do you know what is said about people excessively proud of ancestors? They are like potatoes, the most important part of them is found already underground! That's me, a tad saucy and flippant!
  23. Hello there I'm from Australia I'm currently 320lbs and my ultimate goal would be 190lbs as i am tall and come from a family of big builds so 190 would be perfect. Here in Australia we can use health insurance to pay most of the surgery but I'll still be out of pocket $5000 but the catch is we must weight out 12 months before we get surgery i finally signed up for insurance 2 months ago so my surgery will be just after my 35th birthday 😀 and then should be able to lose the 130lbs within the following 10 months in time for my 36th birthday party.. I would just like to hear from others who are going through the operation Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass. I've done tons of research and that's the surgery i want Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass the best for long term. I've heard that it makes it so you don't have much cravings and you don't absorb calories as much because of bypass and you have to live off vitamins and such. I hope people can clarify things for me about all that stuff thank you!!!
  24. January 12, 2019!!! I am sooooo ready! Plane tickets purchased, making 2nd payment tomorrow and then another Dec 10th. Just don't want to have to bring a lot of cash with me to Mexico. Decided to go with "A Slimmer Me". Really good reviews and even better rates...they are running a special for $2999. with a free hernia repair until Nov 15th. I also had to call Southwest Airlines and request wheelchair services, I forgot to add that when I booked my flights. I was told to bring Gas-X, a travel pillow, a heating pad, an extension cord, and to order my vitamins (patches) before I go and start them immediately when I get back. I am addicted to Sleeve information and before and after pics. I also have no plans on telling ANYONE until after I return. I originally told my boyfriend and my best friend, he was VERY supportive, she was totally against it. I don't want to have to go through that again because the things she said was heartbreaking. I am amped up and ready to go....this month is crawling by. Any advice?
