    Losing too much weight...

it's very common to have a 10-20 lb regain in year 3 without much effort. I was convinced it would never happen to me - BUT...it did. That said, since you're dealing with too much muscle loss, then yes -it'd be good to stop the weight loss since you need to maintain your health. I started gradually adding calories when I got down into the 130s (too low for me) ("gradually adding" since it would have been too hard to suddenly add 500 or so calories a day to my diet - it took a few weeks to get up there).

    This surgery is bullshit...

Like everyone else I'm going to say its a tool, not a quick fix. With that I found I had the most success PRE SURGERY losing weight by logging everything. You may think you are staying in the guidelines but you will see that you're actually not. There are tons of food tracking apps. It takes repetition to get in the habit but you will see as I did that those days you skip it, you went off plan. EVERYTIME. Whether conscious or unconscious sabotage comes from within. Stop. Close your eyes. Deep breath. You have to SLOW everything down in the beginning to one meal at a time. You can't think months down the road. Stop weighing yourself everyday,, two to three times per day.. this process...It's day to day, min to min. It's a total process. You have to take an HONEST raw look at your habits and the reasons why you eat. Don't be hard on yourself. You've given yourself a wonderful tool to become healthier. Love [emoji173] Nannette
  3. We will not feel the restriction until our tummies are healed and we are eating real food. There is a little search box at the top of the page, write ? Always feeling hungry .... or never feel full. There are tons of people who trod these forums before us and have all the knowledge. Apparently you will know it when you get it. You are working the program so well, a few more weeks will see you fine
  4. Feeling like I never had surgery? My surgery was 11-09-2021. I am 3 weeks 5 days post op today. I'm currently on pureed foods. The first week was difficult. Ever since I started on pureed foods, I feel like I never had surgery. I've been measuring everything out, and sticking to the guidelines for the most part. People will say they can barely eat...that they're not hungry. Well I can eat 4oz of cottage cheese and 3oz of anything else with no problems not all at one time. I don't drink with or after my meals. I honestly feel hunger...in my belly. I've also experienced the head hunger (esp the week after surgery). It's a little frustrating because I don't want to screw this up. I know the surgery is just a tool, but how do I fix my brain? I went from 275 to 250 .My surgery weight was like 275.So I'm happy with the results, but I'm so focused on the future. I don't want to mess up. What advice do you guys have for me?

    This surgery is bullshit...

Its not like that for everyone, i am 17 weeks out and i am starving most of the time even after eating my stomache feels like its going to start eating itself

    This surgery is bullshit...

You should be on more than 800 cals a day by now, maybe you arent eating enough or the wrong foods, i stalled for a good 8 weeks. I started eating a bit more and the scales started moving. Could also be your body rebuilding any muscle you might have lost in the early days after surgery. Eating to little will cause your body to hang on to every bit it can

SO much pain 2 days out

I had a large hiatal hernia repair with my bypass, and felt like I'd been hit by a truck that first week. So it can definitely knock you about! As others have said, walk as far as you can each day without overdoing it to alleviate the gas pain, and the surgery pain will improve. It took me about two weeks to not feel pain when breathing in.
  9. I move onto regular food next week, so I'm just coming out of the soft food stage and I've been eating vegan burgers and sausages and chinese seitan alongside some vegetables, with strawberries as a snack. This is on top of my liquid protein (protein water and protein fortified soy milk). Scrambled tofu and marinated tofu have also been going down a treat. Honestly, my "regular food" is pretty much going to be the same. Here's a site with the nutritional info for all of Gardein's products which you may find useful. https://www.myfooddiary.com/brand/gardein Their Beefless Ground has 18g of protein per 3/4 cup, so you could do a nice vegan cottage pie (with cauliflower mash top) with that.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

It seems I posted under the wrong thread since I have had gastric bypass 🤦🏻‍♀️ But it still is the same journey for all of us regardless of the kinda procedure we have had 😂 First 2 days, pain was bothersome but managed with Tylenol and resting. I have experienced resting for an hour or so helps a lot. So I follow that and only use 2 or 3 regular strength 325mg of Tylenol. I feel much better today (Day 3). So hoping by the end of the week, I'll be able to stroll without having to hold my stomach. Hope everyone is progressing well on your respective end. 🤗
  11. Oh man that is so tough not seeing your Bari team. My dietitian moved to KS last visit and I actually cried. But she is still seeing me via teledoc so that helped so much being able to see her instead of someone new. I actually had to do 28 days I must say I think the first week was the hardest. I got prenatal gummy vitamins and I’m tolerating them well on the liquid but I’ll have to see what I can do after surgery. I see a lot of people get the kids flinstone chewable a. She said I need B12, Calcium. D3 as well. My sons took me to Olive Garden today for lunch and I had Soup broth no chunks etc the server was great and tried to get just the broth. It may not be approved but omg is was good and I got so full from just one bowl. I wasn’t tempted to eat the food, salad or breadsticks. I was super proud of myself and left holding my head high realizing I can do this!!! It’s just for a few weeks and anything is possible for a few weeks Good luck!!!

    Pre-op diet as a diabetic

I was on an insulin pump, metformin and ozempic when I started my pre-op diet. I was glad that I had my Dexcom because it helped me quickly adjust my insulin. I had 2 severe lows then after talking with my endo, stopped all insulin while on < 600 calories. I’m 1 week post op and while my numbers aren’t perfect they aren’t high enough to warrant correcting. When I am eating again, I’ll have to test and figure out how much I need.

    Losing too much weight...

I am 21 months post RNY and I am still losing weight. My HW 325 (2/20/20), SW 311 (3/9/20), CW 133. I had an abdominoplasty on 10/27/21 (weighed 145, no lipo due to little to no body fat, and I don't know what amount was removed). I saw my NP today for pist abdominoplasty and then an emergency illness x2 following abdominoplasty stay in hospital same week for bowel obstruction. My labs are normal, my NP says I am healthy BUT, I am on the low weight end and just a few pounds from being underweight according to their standards. She advised me to add in healthy fats (nuts, nut butters, avocado daily), 2 protein shakes, 3 meals, 3 snacks. I just can't eat all of that. And little to no cardio and focus on strength training with weights. They are giving me 3 months to gain more muscle mass and gain weight and fill out more. And then return for re-evaluation. IF my weight continues to drop, they are talking about reversing my RNY! I literally cried in the office, on the way home, in the pharmacy (when the girls asked me how my weight and post abdominoplasty were going....they've known us many years) and then I cried several times on and off at home. I keep thinking about the old me, the 325 lb me, the old capacity, no restriction stomach and its ability to hold more, leading to weight gain and then it getting out of control, leading me back down the hole I just struggled to dig myself out of. This scares me so bad. I mean, it's ultimately up to me, right? As in, if they ended up scheduling that procedure months down the road, it's my decision if I go or not, it's my body. I'm thinking of seeking out a different opinion on this because this just doesn't seem like it should be the conclusive answer to this issue. Does it?

Thanks, Grands. I only have about 3 more capsules from the doc so I wasn't sure what I should get to help until I see him next week.

    November 2021 surgeries

Yes everything went completely fine no pain no nausea tolerated all liquids on phase 3 of diet and have hit a stall worried I’m doing to many calories but nevertheless in good spirits ! Feel better soon
  16. I’m just a little bored on this soft food/purée phase. I’m making ricotta bake tonight. I did a puréed chicken salad with Greek yogurt and some other seasonings to eat on this week for lunch. Lots of other recipes I’ve tried but guess I’m just bored now. All suggestions welcome !
  17. My nutritionist b----ed me out for overeating, too. I was eating a whopping 800 calories and stalling hard. She told me that I needed to be eating 400-500 calories a day and that's why I wasn't losing weight. I told her that the week I tracked my food before starting on this journey, I was maintaining my old weight on 3800 calories a day and there's no freaking way I was bumping out of a caloric deficit with an intake of 800 calories. So she said I was non-compliant and then huffed, "I guess if you want to gain it all back, it's up to you." I fired her. Loudly. I posted about it elsewhere on this site. And I went and found a nutrition group that focuses on flexible nutrition and who have nutritionists and RDs who are familiar with bariatric patients. My nutritionist put me on 1200 cal a day to start and has been encouraging me to eat more—this week has been more like 1400. I am very active, though, and burn calories both working and working out (I'm not a "walker"... I run, I do CrossFit, I do ranch work.) I'm twelve weeks out and still losing 3-4 pounds a week. I do track everything I eat and self-discipline is hard but necessary. I figure this surgery gave me 6-12 months to re-evaluate my relationship with food, and that's plenty of time to develop new habits that are just second nature.

SO much pain 2 days out

Yes, I spent my entire first week wondering why I had decided to torture myself like this. If it's unbearable, call the doctor and ask they prescribe you something. I was sent home with liquid tylenol with codeine, but it was so nasty that I preferred not to take it. Walk as much as you can, it'll help with the gas pain.

    This surgery is bullshit...

Sounds super disheartening! I have only lost 30lbs so far too, but that isn't cause to give up. I had my A1C done last week, and in just 30lbs of loss I'm no longer diabetic, not even pre-diabetic. Any loss is good loss. If you are feeling angry and frustrated, acknowledge it, then ask what you need to do to get things moving in a positive direction again. More water? Different macros? Physical activity? Everyone's journey is different, so don't compare yours to anyone else's and think you've failed. You've only failed once you quit trying. I hope it gets better, goodmanje!
  20. I was a model child the first two weeks after surgery. I had no appetite and anything I put in my mouth was strictly out of medical necessity but I was dogged and made sure to meet my protein and water requirements every day. Lost 12 lbs. The second two weeks, I’m not sure if I was “hungry” but I found I could enjoy food again and things became more tempting. With the Doctor’s approval, and I asked many specifics of her, such as flax, vinegar, and protein bars with nuts, she reassured me “I couldn’t hurt my stomach”, I moved forward and, while eating 75% on target, I also incorporated small amounts of things from my old life – a bite of bread roll, a 1” square of brownie, half a flour tortilla, a piece of corn dog. All while keeping my calories between 700-900 a day. Nothing seemed to bother my stomach and my capacity, while certainly limited, was more than I expected. At my four week appt, the nutritionist was a bit horrified and pretty much wrote me up as non-compliant. Said that most people were eating about 500 calories a day at that point. After sulking (and stalling) for another week, I started adding a protein shake back for breakfast, upped my water by 16 ounces and focusing more on the basics: using a scale, focusing on protein and vegetables, walking. I learned taking the tiny bites was not to help my stomach, but my head: it sucks when your meal is over in 3 or 4 bites. I claimed I could not walk because I have grade 4 arthritis in my knee and I’m really busy, but if I get up early, I can get a mile in before I go to work. And I added ankle weights to up the effectiveness. As of now, the scale is moving again after the stall from hell but I’ve also, grudgingly, learned the rules are there for a reason. I’m not here to be austere, at age 59, my only reason for loss is health, and I don’t feel the drive to be thin/attractive, so I still have my little treat: a 70 calorie square of baking chocolate. My calories these days still fall closer to 750 but I’ve lived a life of self-indulgence and self-discipline is hard to come by now.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Hi Everyone, I'm about 4 weeks since surgery and so far I am having two issues that I am wondering how everyone else is handling (if you have having too). One is that I seem to be having quite a bit of heartburn. I am taking the antacid that my doc prescribed but I seem to be using Tums in between to help - how are you handling if you are having this issue. And secondly, I am having a very hard time getting all my liquids in. If I drink all the liquids my doc wants me to drink I can't seem to eat food. How are you getting all the liquids and food in?

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Post-Op Hi Everyone I am 1 week and 2 days post op for the gastric sleeve. The first day after surgery was a miserable experience.(Gas) The use of Gas x and peppermint tea was very helpful with the gas pains and stomach discomfort. I haven't had any issues with swallowing pills. Each day get's better and I am able to keep down all liquids. The incision on my upper left side is still a little painful and tender. Overall, I am doing great and have lost 15.6lbs so far. We Got This!
  24. I’ve had sleep apnea for years and it’s always been well controlled, with a AHI less than 1. Immediately after the surgery my sleep apnea has been really bad. I was waking up multiple times a night because I stopped breathing and my AHI shot up to 5 (maybe higher actually since I found myself waking up with my mouth open which the machine can’t record). I got really bad dry bloody nose after being in the hospital and I think that didn’t help. I ended up buying and overnight shipping a new full face mask so that I could sleep safely even if my mouth popped open. Tried it out last night and after a few hours tinkering with the fit I think it will work. Still had a pretty crappy night though. I’m seeing my pulmonologist in a couple weeks for the post surgery follow up and will ask more about this then. I was just wondering if anyone else had trouble post surgery and had suggestions?

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

Wow I still can’t walk much but will when I go back to the office next week. I moved to soft foods a few days earlier too and it got stuck but go slowly. I finally am officially on all solids now and am nervous what to eat.
