  1. I need opinions please help me. I started with 186 at 5"2, currently I am at 160.8,, 7 weeks out. I am super happy with the loss although i only lost 4 lbs this month.. I only can eat very little, and I am super full, which I love it. I eat very little carbs and only cheated couple times...My cheat consists of 1 bite of Pasta, seriously 1 spoon... I am a little upset, because I did this because I hate diets, and I failed at all of them. My goal with this surgery was to restrict food portion and lose weight but eating so little that I would lose regardless. I am learning that no matter how little you eat, you might not lose? Am I right, or I am stalling? If I used to eat 2.500 cal perday before surgery and now I eat 700 but I have carbs I still wont lose because if you eat carbs you wont lose? I am so confused... I thought calories were a number.. regardless of what you eat...if you eat 800 calories in a day and burn 3000 cal you lose even if you ate a burger... I am just venting because I hate diets and i feel i am in a endless diet...Maybe i am stressed..I have to plan every meal i eat, plan the carbs, Protein....we ended fat for a reason, and the reason is that we are terrible at diets..Aren't we on a diet again...Ok you will tell me we are on a life change, I know..I am, I dont eat anymore...I eat protein now...but the measuring what, why and when...do you identify?

    Band to sleeve?

Lauren. I am in the same boat as you. I have had many fills, unfills, and micro fills. I could never found my sweet spot like you I lost a total of 72 lbs and now its back to only losing 62, I gain and lose the same 10 lbs. I have thought about the sleeve like you, but again I only weight between 170-180lbs... it is risky to have another surgery just to take off 30-40 more lbs to be at a healthy BMI. I go into get a fill june 4th so I hope it kick starts me. I have been trying for 3 years to get under 170 it wouldn't budge .... so lets hope something is quick start this weight loss again. Good luck to you !

    Band to sleeve?

Can I recommend that you read Mis73 post about carb cycling. Several people have mentioned breaking the plateau in that post after trying it. They do it for a couple weeks just to get the weight losing going again. Check it out. That is going to be my backup plan if I see myself stuck later on (i am only a month out today, and so far losing some).

    Band to sleeve?

This thread interests me because when I decided to revise to another band, I got asked over and over again (here and elsewhere) why I didn't 'just' revise to a sleeve. Jean's blog post is the perfect example of why I chose the band. The sleeve was so unknown, and the band was so known to me. I have had a good experience with the band for the most part, so it seemed the safer route to go. I can live with the band, I don't know if I could live with the sleeve, because I knew nothing about living with a sleeve. A friend of mine has the same fill/unfill dance and she's sick to death of it. We talked last night and she said she was sick of the band not working. And yet what she considered 'too tight' was what I considered my green zone, it turned out. She couldn't eat cookie dough? Naturally she should get an unfill! I don't get an unfill unless I can't swallow my own saliva. And without fail if I baby the band, I'll be able to go back to eating solids after a few days even after a stuck episode. We were also out to dinner when I was well restricted (and when she said she was 'too tight'), and got a piece of salmon and 3 balls of arancini to share. I ate 2 balls of arancini and half the salmon and she ate the rest. Then as we were walking through the city, she stopped at two chocolatiers and an ice cream parlour to get 'treats'. I was well restricted so I actually could not physically eat anymore, but she could! I know my band and I know it well and I know when it helps me control my hunger. I am completely happy with my decision to revise to another band, and I think they would have to tell me that I couldn't ever have another band to revise to a sleeve.

    Anyone Having Problems Sleeping?

I came home from the hospital and I didn't sleep for 3 nights. I went to urgent care and had them change my Vicodin (loratab liquid) changed to Tylenol with Cod and was able to finally get some sleep. I told them at the hospital that vicodin hypes me up and they still prescribed it. I should have been a little more proactive. I had only taken l dose of the vicodin when I had gotten home due to a horrible headache. What meds are you taking? Can you call you doc's office tomorrow or go to urgent care. It is important to get our sleep for healing. Wish you luck, have a wonderful day.

    Anyone Having Problems Sleeping?

This topic has been written here many times. I too went through a period of waking in the early am around 2:00 - 3:00 for the day . Many have explained it to me as a symptom of ketosis which you actually want to be in to lose fat. It was about two weeks for me and now I 'm the opposite. I'm a good sleeper and find it difficult to roll off the bed in the am. I bought some Melatonin, but have never had to take one. I also try to get most of my Protein in by 3:00 pm as I had always had this issue with low carb diets. I wish you the best of luck in finding what works fr you.

    How many days off

I would take 3 at the least. I took 2 and I work in the ER as front office.. so I have a desk job with no lifting.
  11. I am 5 weeks out from surgery and can eat pretty much anything now. I haven't tried certain things (like lettuce or fruit) but so far everything has been OK. the thing is, i'm running out of things to eat. this was my problem before surgery and its my problem now - i'm a picky eater! and i get sick of things easily. i can only get down 2-3oz of food comfortably and that is great, except that obviously will not give me enough Protein and it takes me an hour (sometimes more!) to eat. i've been having a Protein shake in the AM, a Protein Bar for lunch (it was cheese last week), and then meat for dinner. usually i have to throw in some protein hot chocolate as well. i know i should be eating regular foods but i don't have the damn time and i am out of foods to eat. would i like a hard boiled egg? yes, i would but i would only be able to eat 1 and that is like 6g of protein - big whoop. i'd rather just suffer through a protein shake and get 20g in the AM. i am sick of tuna fish and chicken salad. i bought store brand deli chicken and low fat low sodium cheese and tried to do roll ups. well they just tasted disgusting. i tried making tilapia but it didn't taste great (i think it was frozen too long). i have been living off of meatballs for the past week. i'm going to try chicken tonight. next week i'll make chicken burgers. i do love dairy (hate greek yogurt though) but its got so much fat. how do you find a balance between eating and getting enough protein and using supplements? i just feel overwhelmed and never know what to eat. what am i supposed to bring for lunch? if i don't bring lunch, what the hell am i supposed to eat out? how am i supposed to get all of my protein in? I should add that it is just me - i don't cook for a husband or family. I'm also 23 so my cooking isn't that great. LOL HELP!
  12. im on liquids .is that the reason im so hungry every 20 minutes..its kind of annoying im constantly drinkin gatorade or water or jello

Felt restriction for the first time

I did the same thing when I moved from liquids to mushies. I also felt like my sleeve wasn't small enough because the post-op liquids still went through rather quickly. I wasn't really hungry, but the 'full' feeling went away pretty fast after having a Protein shake. But once I got to mushies...whole new world! I also ended up with the slimes at least 2-3 times a week the first couple weeks. Now it happens every few weeks, but it's still an ongoing learning experience. Then once I was on solids...wowza...the need to chew is very real with the sleeve on solids; otherwise, I fill up with just a few bites. I do weigh my food because I know what my maximum is at this point (about 4.5 oz) and I still eat rather fast, so it helps to keep my portions in check. I also know which foods tend to fill me up faster, like turkey and tuna, so I do only about 4 oz total with those.

only 1 week & no liquids

Ditto on what Sue said. This is not about feeling guilty or controlled - this is about giving yourself the very best chance to succeed. I find it interesting that you would value our opinions about what is safe for you to eat more than what your very own doctor told you... :cry I would think about that for a minute... Your doc's eating schedule is quite a bit more aggressive than most as it is. I was on "clear" liquids for 2 weeks, "full" liquids for a week, then mushies a week, then regular food. There are no guarantees that any of us will escape problems, following our doc's advice or not. But... you have to ask yourself how important it is to you to do what is in your control to give you the best chances of success possible. No one can make you follow your doc's orders except yourself. So if you choose to not follow his advice, that is certainly your decision - the outcome is your responsibility, and you must do as you see fit. Compliance is something we all struggle with at one time or another, with varying degrees of success. You certainly are not the only one who has been unable to follow the post-op diet. How this one incident will or will not affect you in the future is impossible for any of us to say - I don't have any stats to provide, or even any good anecdotal-type info to provide. Drinking hot fluids like broth and boullion can help stave off the hungries. Drink as much Water as you can. Good luck!

    Chat Rooms, Anyone Use It?

I think the system shows anyone who is logged into lapbandtalk not necessarily chat. I did go into chat just now and saw 3 other people but noone was chatting. I think the idea of having a time to meet is great. Evenings are good for me too.

    Day 3

Day 3? Probably still just the anesthetic working it's way through your system. Everybody is different. During my stay at the hospital I slept for the better part of 3 days.
  20. Just got my 4th fill yesterday which took me to 6.5cc in a 10cc Lapband. And, it was about three hours after 'lunch' (broth and a Protein shot), that I realized something had definitely changed w/this fill... I was NOT HUNGRY! And, I have remained NOT HUNGRY ever since. Even though I'm only allowed liquids for 72 hours after a fill, I was NOT HUNGRY when I went to bed and NOT HUNGRY when I woke up. This is frickin amazing!!! Yeah, yeah, I know this is one of the main reasons I got the band. My mom has the band and said that she is just not thinking of food or looking for food much anymore. And, the people who are at goal in my support group say the same thing. One lady has to set an alarm to remember to eat. And, I've been longing for this NOT HUNGRY feeling ever since I got the band on 12/17/09. Until now, I had not felt this yet... not even right after surgery or after any of my other fills so I was worried it would never happen for me. But, now that I've experienced it, I'm happy to say it has exceeded my expectations because its not just that I'm not hungry, but I don't even feel empty (even though I haven't eaten). I feel like you feel an hour after you ate a good meal, but all the time. Well, at least for the last day. I'm hoping this restriction sticks w/me. I'm the type who actually gets tighter a couple weeks AFTER a fill so I'm also hoping I don't end up too tight. And, I haven't eaten yet, so I have absolutely no idea how this level of restriction is gonna work w/food. I can drink about 4 oz of Water at once, though, and it does go down fairly quickly, so I'm really really hoping, this is it! (or close to it) :frown: Anyway, no matter how it works out, I now know that this NOT HUNGRY thing is possible w/me. And, I am thrilled!!! (oh gosh, should've posted this to my blog - I will cut-and-paste there)

    Help after surgery?

God is always on my side. I say this because I'm a very strong woman. I have done everything alone. Had 3 csections same day of discharge on all 3 I was making dinner taking care of the babies. After gastric by pass the next day after discharge I was food shopping. Lifting the grocery my daughter did it but I was walking slowly but didn't struggle at all. This doesn't mean anyone is weak it only means its not impossible to do things on your own. I can't count on my husband and that's ashamed. I do wish he was more supported & helpful but he feels the only responsibility he has is to work & pay all the bills which he does so god made me extra strong because I basically only have my 15 year old to lean on if I needed her help which she never refuse to help me out. If I'm sick she takes care of her siblings & makes me soup. I'm so glad I have my teenager.
  23. I started back at the gym a week after surgery and get in an hour of cardio 5-6 days per week. BUT - and this is a big BUT - I did not go back to work until the 6 week mark. Thus, my ONLY physical activity was going to the gym, and it did take a lot out of me. I am grateful for having taken so much time off, however, as it allowed me to make the gym habit happen and still build up enough stamina to go back to work. I went back last Monday and was able to do that plus continue at the gym - my biggest fear was that I would stop working out as soon as I went back to work. For me, a huge part of increasing my energy was exceeding my Water and Protein goals. As soon as I could reliably hit my 60g protein goal, they said to try for 70g or 80g. Same with water - as soon as I could get in 64 oz, they said go for 80 oz. And they said I could have a cup of coffee each morning if I can get to 100 oz, so I'm working on that.
  24. Hey, were surgery twins. I got sleeved same day. Try flavor in ur Water, maybe lemon. I use TRUE LEMON was on my nut list. Its crystallized lemons, no sugar. I've always hated water. My nut also approved a splash of juice in my water, no more than 1oz. It works great n helps me get more water in Im already on phase 3 but was able to have chicken n tuna on puree stage so that helps w Protein count. Try app called protein tracker, blue icon with white dumbbell. CW 218 VSG 1/6/2017 SW 242 GW 140 Woohoo ...summer 2017 here we come ????
  25. If there's one thing I've learned it's that there are as many post-op programs as there are bariatric surgeons, lol. Sometimes I'm shocked seeing people 2-3 days post-op eating purees or even soft foods... but as long as it's what their surgeon recommended, none of my business, haha.
