    Another newbie

Hi Shaz-nz I live in NZ and I'm scheduled for a revision from Lapband to RNY on 15th August. Hope you are well.
  2. Not sure if this is helpfful or not (maybe making it easier to know the right decision for you) but I'm 3 1/2 yrs post lapband (slipped, now awaiting a revision to sleeve). I've never thrown up so much in my life. The first 2 1/2 yrs it was daily. This past year, it's weekly. I've gotten so used to it, it's part of my routine. Doesn't even bother me anymore. My mom and sister are like you, however. They just DON'T throw up. Can't imagine. You're making the right choice in getting the sleeve vs the band - especially if you're paranoid about vomiting. Marci
  3. I have a 10cc band and right now I'm at about 6ccs. I lost like crazy after my first fill and then it kinda dropped off. When I went in for a second fill we found out that my port had flipped so I couldn't get filled. I was able to get some more in during my port revision surgery but still don't have restriction. NONE AT ALL...I am hungry 24/7 if it weren't for knowing how hard I had to work to get this band in I probably would have gained at least 20 pounds already. I am awaiting a second port revision (that bleeping thing flipped again) hopefully after that I will get back on track.

    Post Op Port question...

The only way I even know my port is there is if I push pretty hard on the incision. I surely have never been able to see my port sticking out. My doctor did mention too that after a big weight loss that sometimes the port does have to be revised. Hope this helps.
  5. I revised to the sleeve and it has never worked for me at all, I however had great success with the band. I'm now seeing a lot of information that says because of the damage the band can do to the stomach and because a lot of band patients are already adapted to reduced calorie lifestyles that the mini gastric bypass may be a better option. I'm considering revising to this myself. I'm reading great things about it!
  6. My surgeon (one of the top) recommended the sleeve for me. Brief story : I was banded in 2007 and very successful 100% loss of excessive weight. 8 years and 2 kids later the band no longer working and hard to adjust, esophagus mildly enlarged but returns to normal with unfill. I love the sound of the sleeve but worry when I read that bypass is a better revision from band. Do not want to make the wrong choice! I trust my surgeon who knows my history. What do you all think? Also important- I regained most of the weight!
  7. If someone has severe GERD and/or Barrett's esophagus, needs to take NSAIDS for a medical condition - these can all be reasons to recommend the by pass over the sleeve. How do you revise from the sleeve to a mini bypass?
  8. @@cbk -- there is a whole forum devoted to people revising from band to bypass... http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/775-band-to-gastric-bypass-revisions/ Best wishes!
  9. AGREED. I had revision to bypass on 9.04. You have to get the protein into your body. Shakes, scoops in water....whatever it takes. When you do that you will feel better.....
  10. Im june 23. Band to bypass revision. Sooo excited but cant wait to get rid of this band so i can get a good nights sleep again. Reflux sucks

    Exercise regimen before surgery

I am scheduled for a sleeve revision from the band December 16th. Yay! My question is, will it be easier for me to start an exercise plan before my surgery or will it not matter because I cant exercise for a while after anyways.....yes I know all exercise is healthy, but what can you still even do post op....and when? 2years out and already gaining

I am almost 4yrs out and started gaining at 2.5 years out. DOS I was 346 my lowest 210 never even got to goal. On September 30,2013 I was back to 257. I had a revision done on September 30,2013. I hope with the revision I can make it to goal. You have to really want to change forever and I didn't. After 2 years I could eat everything. I tried to get back on track but my pouch was so stretched it was hard. I will keep you I'my prayers.
  14. Hi there, I am thinking about the LapBand to Sleeve revision surgery and my new surgeon said that I would have a drain bag for 7 days. I was wondering if anyone had a drain bag for a week? What did it feel like and did it hurt during and after it was pulled out?
  15. 9 lbs a month is good. 1lb in two weeks is nothing to panic about if you eventually get a drop. I revised to rny and I was told it would be slower that newly wls folks. I'm losing faster than expected and they were shocked. My current rate is about 9lbs a month and I expect that to really slow very soon. I think your dr may need to come on here and read the thousands of posts about the week 3 stall. That he told you to start jogging is absurd. Please check out dr. Matthew weiner on YouTube if you are looking for reasonable post op diet and exercise recommendations. He also talks about why people lose at different rates etc.

How To explain away my scars?

That's one of my favorites! Lol Most people in my life know about my lap band and upcoming revision, but in the rare occasions where I would have to explain scars to someone new (like maybe a new boyfriend) that I wasn't ready to spill my secrets too, I always went with "Tijuana knife fight." Got a giggle and ended the discussion!
  17. Got the answer today from my insurance company. If there are complications with my band that deem my revision surgically or medically necessary, there will be no waiting period. Otherwise, 6 months Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App

    VSG surgery

I had the Lap Band in 2005. While I lost about 80% of my excess weight, my life with the band was very miserable. I had horrible reflux and later found out that I had been living with a slipped band for years. I had gastric sleeve April of last year and am very happy with my decision. No significant complications and I feel great! One thing: when I had my sleeve done, my surgeon said that the procedure took him at least an extra half hour while he sorted through the scar tissue from the band. From what I've read on this form, that is quite common when you see revision from lap band. For me, all that scar tissue and extra work to deal with it made my initial recovery a little different. I saw others talking about feeling great and being up walking right away. I felt like I had been hit by a Mac Truck! I couldn't tolerate the laps around the nurse's station and was lucky to make it about 20 feet down the hall. I stayed an extra night in the hospital and was a little more on track by day 2.
  19. I thought I better start writing about this journey now so I don't forget. I had lap band surgery November 3, 2007. I actually lost about 60 pounds with the lapband at one point but gained most of the weight back. For the first four years of the lap band I was in constant flux. I dieted more in that four years than in the rest of my life. In December 2011 I was back up to 255 pounds. At that point I realized the lap band had failed me and I needed to consider other options. Through a long drawn out process I was accepted by my insurance company to get a revision to the Sleeve. On December 27 I decided to make a radical change in my lifestyle and eating. After confirming with my bariatric surgeon that I qualified for the revision I decided to become a raw foodist for the next five months. It was a very positive experience and I learned a great deal about health and nutrition. I have to say I read everything I could get my hands on regarding raw foodism, veganism, and the like. I finally understood what it is to make a very real lifestyle change. Understanding that eating processed, boxed, bagged food was not the answer, it finally dawned on me that what I was missing was the live enzymes of fresh fruits and vegetables that no one seems to think are important, or simply don't know that they're absolutely necessary and needed in the body. I watched quite a few documentaries and I'd like to recommend that you also consider watching these few. Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead was the first documentary I watched; that became life-changing. Foodmatters, Food Inc., The Gerson Miracle, Burzynski, Forks over Knives, and The Beautiful Truth. Sorry more than I thought... Anyway I guess what I'm trying to elude to is that we've all had an eating problem to the point where we've had to have surgery once or twice and for some of us it is still escaping us as to how we can actually make a real change that will ultimately save us. So many times I have heard people say I could never give up sugar, coffee, meat, wheat, bacon, soda, etc... When I hear this I think then a lifestyle change for you is probably not something that is going to happen for you. How much do you truly want good health? Maybe it's time to start pushing yourself in new and different directions, maybe there is new and exciting information to be gleaned that will help you to a better and healthier you. For me being a 80-10-10 raw foodist wasn't for me. But I did adopt eating a high fresh fruit and raw vegetable diet into my new lifestyle. I have decided to include cold blooded sea creatures in my diet as well as cooked Beans and rice in moderation, but also to maintain a balanced healthful diet for me. Please understand I am writing this as much to myself for my own remembrance as I am sharing my experience with you. The day of surgery I weighed 204 lbs. Two days after surgery I weighed 213 lbs. that was disappointing but the Water weight gain from th IV was to be expected. Today is 7/1/2012 and I am at 202. So from December 27th 2011 to June 25th 2012 I lost 56 lbs. I am so excited about where I am going... God bless us and keep us! Mardee
  20. 1) No, I kept the majority of the weight I lost off. I think I gained about a fourth of what I lost in total. The first 3 or 4 days after the unfill, I gained 17 lbs of just Water alone. Bleh. My average calories was similar to what it's been it's for 7 years (~1200 to 1500 calories). I was told this was normal due to being malnourished and dehydrated by having a too tight band for too long. 2) I had the band removal to sleeve in one step surgery. I was still in onederland when they suggested that I get a revision. They unfilled me that day. I remained unfilled for several months to let my esophagus and stomach rest before the surgery, which was done as an outpatient. (Easy recovery, btw) 3) Not much lost during 3 weeks pre-op, for the same reason I gained some of my weight back. My body was still adjusting and hung onto everything. Even on 800 cal pre-op, my body wouldn't budge! grrrr 4) 11 weeks post op revision: 36 lbs. lost
  21. 1) I gained all my weight back plus 15. My band worked initially but I could never get a fill I could live with. Even the slightest fill caused food to get stuck. I gave up on fills within the first year. Even unfilled I struggled to eat right. Protein first meant I was throwing up. I learned to eat around the band rather than go back to surgeon and deal with it immediately. 2) I waited 10 yrs from band to revision 3) I started pre op for sleeve 3 months before surgery by choice. I was mentally ready even if I had to jump through all the hoops first. I lost 35 lbs. 4) I've lost 46 lbs. I am 2 weeks post op Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  22. 1. I lost 72 pounds initially and had regained 37 before I started the pre op diet. 2. I had band removal and sleeve revision done in one surgery. I had started having swallowing issues last December. There wasn't much time from when I was told that my band had failed until revision surgery. Just a few months. 3. Only lost 5 lbs. on pre op diet on a four shake/one small meal plan (800-1000 calories) 4. I'm five weeks post op and have lost 25 lbs total, 20 since revision. 23. Hi! I'm new, this is my first post. I had gastric bypass surgery in 2005. I lost about 100 lbs and have since gained it back plus a couple extra. Last year I made the decision to have a revision surgery. I have been having the hardest time finding people who have had revision to their gastric bypass surgery. I have questions and can't find answers. Can anyone help or point me in the right direction?
  24. On 2/9/16 I had a revision/repair of my RNY originally performed in March 2002. Much like janice above, my original surgery had no real follow up care but this time i do! I've got my first follow up appointment tomorrow & in down 16.6 pounds - feel free to ask my anything Sent from my 9020A using BariatricPal
  25. It'd be helpful if you outlined what type of revision are you having, along with what tests were run that concluded that you needed a revision? And how has your diet been? Did you main a Protein forward diet, not drink with meals, etc?
