1. Hey all! I'm new to this forum but a lot of the topics have really helped me so thank you!! I actually had a Band to Sleeve revision 6 days ago. Everything is going great so far.. No real pain.. Been doing clear liquid diet now since my surgery. I'm wondering when you all made that transition from Clear liquids to full liquid? My body is craving nutrition.. I must only be getting 150 calories a day right now. I know all surgeons have different plans but I feel like my body is ready to advance. I'm very weak too which is what bothers me the most. So far I've lost 18 pounds since my weigh in last Monday which is insane. Would love any advice I can get! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
2. I would like to meet more members that had the DS or revision from RNY to DS. I am in Arizona and my doctor has been outstanding from the beginning to the end. I had my revision 12/29 ; preoperative testing on 12/17 then postoperative testing 12/30 to check for leaks . The radiologist said he did a wonderful job on my surgery especially since I had a ton of scar tissue. I want to get meal ideas and chat with more people. Also they say there was no good Duodenal switch doctors in Arizona which wasn't true there was a lady the travel outside of AZ to come here for her surgery. Good luck to your weight loss journey and your decision

Former Lapband Patient

your story is similar to mine in that I have a lapband and was very active at LBT UNTIL I decided to have a revision to the sleeve; my surgery is in three days. The sleeve is permanent and the lapband is not. I am now glad to be getting a permanent surgery for my weight loss journey. Best of luck to you and keep posting!!
4. You will do great I had the rny bypass and went back to work three days later. Just know when to slow down. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
5. I had revision almost 3 months ago and just recently moved to more dense protein. I run, cycle, and train a lot. Pre op sleeve I had lost 100 lbs with my lap band. Had complications and started my revision at 168. I now weigh anywhere between 134 and 138. I feel like I eat all day and I'm hungry all day. I average 800-1100 calories a day with 80-100 g of protein and low carbs. If I eat too late, when I wake up, I feel a stretching sensation/pain in my stomach. Does anyone feel this way? Does anyone feel like they eat all day? My portions are appropriate as I'm eating 2-4 oz at a time. I'm feeling lost, hungry, and like I just eat all the time. Please share your insights! Also I made the popcorn mistake by eating too mucch felt nasty and got rid of all popcorn in my house.

7. I will be 1 year out in July 2013.. Had surgery in Mexico with Dr Garcia.. Yes I did have issues but have lost over 70lbs.. This is the smallest I have ever been.. It feels so good to buy clothes ! I still have issues with reflux, I take 1 prolosec in am & 1 in pm.. My insurance has covered all my after care, including 2 hospital stays for a C Diff infection. Also I still struggle with food. Sometimes difficult to eat with the reflux. One of my docs wanted to convert my sleeve to a bypass but I dont want to do anymore surgery.. I was suposed to have another EGD last Fall with a monitor placed for 2 days but I didnt want to do anything at that time.. My C Diff finally went away in December. Ok, so Im actually going to try & attach pics.. One is of me & my son from October 2011, I probably weighed 185.. The other 2 were taken a few days ago at 129 lbs! I never liked to take pics before so it feels weird to take them now.. Good luck to all in their weight loss journey!!

Intro / questions (long)

One question I would ask your surgeon since you are an athlete is about nutrition post-surgery. My understanding of a difference between bypass and sleeve is a difference in nutrient absorption. Best of luck with your decision and thank you for your service!
9. Hello to all the readers out there @ lapbandtalk.com my name is Joe, and I am having lapband surgery on the 14th of July 2009. My Dr. is Dr. Nunn who is a surgeon at the Barix Clinics in Ypsilanti, Mi. I am 6'1" and currently tipping the scales at 354lbs. I have tried various diets and exercise routines. I currently have joint pain, bad asthma (inhaled steroids daily to control), Acid Reflux, and have had several severe bouts with depression. (taking daily meds for that also) My mother's family has always had weight issues, and my mother herself has successfully had a Gastric Bypass and lost over 70% of her excess body weight. She encouraged me to pursue weight loss surgery because of her constant observation at my unsuccessful attempts to loose weight. So.. here I am.. a bit nervous, bit scared, bit excited.. mostly.. just ready to have the surgery and start building a new, healthy, me. I will be updating my progress, thoughts, issues, etc.. on my twitter page.. feel free to follow me, or if anyone else is doing the same please pm or post your twitter account so i can follow you as well! www.twitter.com/jojocourt
10. I have been following RNYTalk.com for a while now and decided I should share my experience. I had RNY in January 2005 at age 24. I was 249 lbs at the time of surgery. I did fantastic with no complications other than needing my gall bladder removed in December of that year (which is very common). I lost my weight steadily and at six months I had got down to 152 lbs. I never had a specific goal in mind but this was a great weight for me. After that I stabled out at 157 lbs for four years. In January 2009 my life dramatically changed when my very painful divorce was final. More or less everything that had been my life was gone. I was going to be 30 in just a couple months and I was back living at home with my parents in a dreary basement apartment with no job, no insurance and no hope. As many of us know all to well when depression strikes food becomes our medicine, our friend and are only consistent source of love. Needless to say I started to gain my weight back. I was in complete denial that it was my eating habits but instead something was "wrong" with the surgery. I even went to my surgeon who performed an exploratory abdominal procedure and found nothing of significance. Sinking deeper into my depression my weight gain continued and for a long time I just denied it all together despite having to buy bigger and bigger clothes. My self-esteem was down to an all time low and was now I was trying to attempt to date for the first time in 8 years. Boy, what fun was that! When I finally found a good man (who I married last summer) I was up to 200 lbs. I didn't care anymore and my husband loved me for who I was and not for how I looked. Now exactly 3 years since our relationship started I am 225 lbs and have been at this weight despite efforts to lose the weight. I have decided to see a new surgeon that is a revision specialist and have my RNY revised. I am now in the beginning stages of getting the process rolling. It is treated just like I never had the surgery before. Supervised weight loss, seminars, NUT meetings, blood work etc. I am having an EGD in two weeks and next month I will be done with the supervised weight loss requirement. My own therapist will provide the pysch eval and we will be doing that at the end of the month. I don't have an actual surgery date yet. My main point in sharing this is that this surgery is just a tool. I know we all hear this but it is so, so true and not a lifelong fix no matter what. If you stop eating right, stop taking Vitamins, stop following up with your surgeon you will gain back the weight. I am not writing all this to scare anyone or make anyone reconsider their decision. Having GB was the best thing I every did myself and I know I will be able to do it again. My mind set is 100% different and I know so much more than I did 8 years ago. This is my story and I look forward to be getting a second chance on my life and getting control of my weight once again.

Back To The Surgeons

First thank you for reading my blog. I hope to help others with information that I am digging up on the Gastric sleeve. A few months ago, I decided to go back to the bariatric surgeon because I am not loosing weight. I suspect its because of my Thyroid, the fact that I live with my ex, something deep in my brain and that I hate to exercise. Not to mention I am in Arizona where it so freakin hot. I have already gone through the 6 months of Dr supervised weight loss. So when I went in today, I was told that I just needed another psych eval and pre- op labs. Good! The doctor suggested the sleeve as the gastic band's failure rate is 50% and going higher. I agreed to the sleeve. The thing I am concerned about is long term effects of the sleeve. Not 5 or even 10 years from now but 25 to 30 years. So, I started digging into what could possibly happen. I am doing this to make my life better. I just want to be sure that I am making the right decision. You know, all of those women who silicone breast implants thought they were safe. Now they are having chronic problems. I dont want chronic problems. So, here we go. What I already know. The stomach will be reduced by 80%. The spincter ( tho opening to the stomach) will still be intact. The stomach will still have the ability to digest food, move and absorb vitamins. Although, It will produce less acid and absorb less vitamins and can form ulsers easily. Hense, the no anti-inflamatories. The surgeon will not do the sleeve on anyone who is already being treated for gastric reflux as rhe procedure will make it so much worse. In addition, even if you haven't had reflux you may develop it around the 5-6 year. The surgeons believe this is due to the internal pressure of the stomach and the weakened fibers of the stomach walls. So... if you are worried look up GERD. If it gets too bad, the doctor will ask you to get a RNY or bypass, as they will releave the pain. Which leads to... looking up everything about these procedures. Well, this is enough tonight. I will be back with more concrete info and websites.
13. Hello sleevers! My name is karla im 29 and a mommy of 3 amazing boys i started this journey last year around this time thinking i wanted gastric bypass so started the whole.requirements needed it took me around 5 months to have everything done but the surgeons office was so unprofessional nothing was ever done with my paper work so last december finally im schedule for last appt before "surgery" and submit to insurance the office calls me 2 days before the appt to tell me the surgeon left the group and that i needed to look for another surgeon or switch to another surgeon from the bariatric group they were so insensitive un professional there was no way i was gonna stay there so i found another doctor they have been so nice and and helpful of my situation but to this day im.still waiting always abump.on the road im frustrated ,tired ,depressed and thinking is this meant to be? 14. I have struggled for many years with the Gastric Bypass Surgery. Should I get it? Should I not get it? Should I just try another diet and fail? Being over weight has been a constant companion my entire life. As I grew up I would weigh myself thinking ok I weigh 160 lbs., I won't ever reach 165, if I reach 165, then I will work out more and watch what I eat. Next thing I knew I was 170, so I would play the compromise game once again. OK 180, I promise myself I will never reach 180, I just won't allow it... Well after several deals that I could not even keep with myself I am now 260 pounds. I am miserable, my back and knees hurt constantly! My entire family is obese and I just figured that was the cards that I had drawn in life and so that is what I will have to deal with. I have done a lot of research regarding the many types of surgery out there and have decded for myself that the Gastric Sleeve is the best match for me. I am excited to get things started and will be going to a Seminar tonight. My first appointment is on January 29th where I will meet with my doctor. I know that this is not a fast process and have read several other posts stating just that, so I am not in a real big hurry to get the surgery, but I am in a hurry to feel better physically and emotionally about myself. I don't blame anyone for the size I am or the reason how I got this way.
15. I am 3 weeks out from gastric bypass surgery and I am struggling with being able to sleep. Melatonin did nothing. Do hormonal shifts contribute to this? I’ve never had trouble sleeping lol. The only thing that works is taking .25 mg of Xanax but I don’t want to live on that.
16. Hello Everyone My name is Casey, I have been on my weight loss journey since April 72014. I lost 100 lbs before my surgery. I had my surgery at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center in Baltimore Md. My surgeon is Dr. Christopher You. I am on day 9 and everything is getting better. I had a couple times where I could not believe I did it and got a little depressed. I sometimes feel like I am never going to be able to eat normal foods again instead of liquids. One of my favorite places to eat is Chipotle, and I like the rice there. Has anyone tried to eat chipotle rice after surgery?
17. I had the sleeve in 2013 and am in the process of looking to revise to a DS. I am extremely worried about the insurance portion. I know "everyone's insurance is different" I get it. Having been through the insurance stuff before I do realize it's case by case etc. I have Aetna and I did read the policy jacket and all that. I just want to know is there anyone on here that was approved for a second surgery and if so what is your story? I have had a little regain but been stalled over a year and a "twisted" sleeve it looks like cobblestones on top of each other. My BMI is 37. NO COMORBIDIES (sp?) Has anyone been approved in a similar situation?

I have a secret and need advice - for the ladies

Get the lumps out, take the reduction now. If you have issues later, cross that bridge when you get to it. You can always have a revision and/or implants.

20. Hi! My VSG date is 16th of November 2010 which is just a few days away. I'm feeling a little anxious already, but i stay motivated looking at the success stories in this forum. I am a 25-year-old Male from Bangalore, India. I am currently 266 pounds and my goal weight is 161 pounds. So i have over 100 pounds to lose. Current BMI: 41.5 The doctor is Mr. Rajshekar Nayak (http://rnayak.com/about.php) of Gunaseela Hospital, who has already performed over 50 VSG's and over 90 Gastric Bypass surgeries. Recently he was featured in a newspaper for performing the surgery with just a single incision of 1 inch under the belly button. Here's the link to the feature: One inch wonder He is a well known surgeon and i also spoke with a few of the peeps who underwent VSG from him, and they're very happy that they did it. I asked Doc if I should bring anything along with me on the day of Surgery, he said to bring just the diagnostic test reports and to get admitted in the hospital the day before surgery. But i want to know if there's something that would help me stay comfortable. I'll start blogging about my journey, and this is my first entry. Pray for me! Namaste. Source: VSG Surgery on November 16th, YAY!!
21. I've never referred so many people to one website in my life and I own 2 of my own. In these days and times of overweight being the norm, so many people want change and don't know how to attain it. So many people can be changing their lives if they only had the proper knowledge, insight, support and the forums to get all their questions answered. They need real people to talk/write to not just publications from doctors. This was the greatest thing ever and my family and close friends appreciate my ability to feel at home and at peace here since my associates never knew how to respond. This surgery was never a personal goal for me, it was an option from my Dr. and yet, it's become the most important thing in my life at this time. Apparently misery likes company but since I refuse to offer mine, I now have 4 people starting the process who use to think they knew all there was to know and now they know that Gastric Bypass is not your only option other than tummy tucks. I'm happy to be able to share knowledge and help people better their lives in any way and this website should be Award Winning!! I am proud to be a member and truly love my new girlfriends/sleeve buddies that I've met on here. I've met friends for life on this site and love to advocate for our community. All this and haven't even been approved yet..smh...lol.

help! so nervous! advice?

Omg, I felt the way you feel, exactly. I flip-flopped on getting the Gastric Bypass for SEVEN YEARS. I was afraid of everything about it, and so doubted whether or not it was the right choice for me. At one point, I dropped out of my pre-op program for two years, thinking, "I can do this myself"---well, I ended up gaining even more weight to get to my highest weight of 373 pounds. Then, my insurance (Medicare) finally approved the Sleeve last year and it seemed like a better fit for me, so I started looking into having surgery again. My surgeon then informed me that his surgery of choice for me was the Sleeve. I still didn't seem to be able to commit to losing the 40 pounds they wanted me to lose beforehand. Also, my surgeon told me I had to quit smoking and stay quitted for a full year before he would operate on me. Then somehow it all clicked into place. I quit smoking for that year and am still quitted. After years of waffling, one day at the doc's office his nurse told me if I could lose 15 pounds in 5 weeks they could finally schedule me. So I got on it and ended up losing 27 pounds. I ate lean Protein and veggies and salads, Lean Cuisines, lots of green tea. And I found that by cutting out all those unhealthy carbs I was eating I was rid of cravings for them---at LAST. So ---I got my date and went for it. I had my Sleeve on September 9th of 2014. I've lost 66 pounds since then, am just over 4 months out. It was a little tough in the beginning but totally doable. I had no pain. I was only in hospital for a day. Everything went well for me. Then, I did everything they told me to do and it worked. I am SO glad I finally did it. It was all the garbage in my head that prevented me from going forward, until I got sick of my own stuff and just went past it. I suffer from depression and have to take plenty of meds too. That didn't affect anything about the surgery. The surgery not only is shrinking me down physically, it has made me a better person now that I'm not preoccupied with food. I used and abused food---and for all the wrong reasons. Today all those issues are totally gone, and I'm living my life the way it is meant to be lived. I wish I had done this sooner, but I don't regret the past and all my waffling. For some reason, I think I had to go through that to finally be ready. Everyone is different and has their own path. Please don't hesitate. It'll be the best thing you've ever done for yourself. Good Luck!
23. My surgery is in 10 more days, it feels so surreal. I've been reading post after post trying to fill my mind with anything an everything. I saw a story a few days ago with someone getting the bypass with their highest weight being my lowest weight, same height and at this point in my life I thought I was thin. It just really makes me question everything I've ever done weight loss wise, and let me tell you I have done some really nutty things( think injecting myself with hcg). Why didn't I ever just think about this choice before? Maybe I just thought it was for those who were morbidly obese, with there own television shows. But I'm morbidly obese, I feel so hurt and ashamed of myself right now for letting it get this far. I took my kids to the park over the weekend and watched the other moms able to play with their kids while I sit in the car weeping. Idk maybe it's just everything getting so close, my desire for the last few years to have this done and the time has finally come. Maybe it's the attitude and arguments I'm getting from my once supportive partner. And all I can think is how can you look at me and not want me to get this done? Maybe it's the fear of being away from my kiddos for a couple days.

Vegetarian Getting Gastic Sleeve

I am wondering.g the same! So far I haven't had any issues. Doc said to rely on dairy and beans, plus soy products, which was what I did before gastric bypass so no issues. I wish there was more info sites, recipes, etc out on the net, though.

Giving up and taking a break

Right there with you. Not having any success and it's hard to read out other people doing so great. I'm not ready to give up yet, but sometimes I wish I had done the bypass instead.
Good luck. I hope we both get this craziness figured out.
